121 Mourning

Everything had happened so fast. Nifrem charged at me, and I hesitated. Before I could reaffirm my determination, Ellis moved past me, reached for a weapon and stabbed herself in the heart.

There was an explosion of darkness. The spinning calmed down, and dark smoke began to ooze out of her nose, mouth and ears. The smoke oozed and disappeared.

" No, no no" I cried, picking up my wife. Her skin was no longer decayed, but her hair was gone. Life and freshness were restored. It was as if Nifrem was never there. Apart from her bald head, there was no evidence of Nifrem left. I was afraid to pull the screwdriver out.

I was mad at her for taking her life, but I knew deep down she wouldn't have agreed for me to sacrifice myself for her. It was typical of her to kill herself for me.

I wept bitterly as I burst out of the red room with her in my arms.

" Help! anybody, help!" I cried out, completely forgetting that I had instructed that the estate be emptied.
