Owen moves beside his father as they head out into the darkness in search of the unknown figure that his mother saw. Neither of them have weapons, since Owen does not keep any at the house for far that the town's people would somehow know and that it would confirm every bad thought that they had about him.

He does not want to confirm their lowest opinions of him, so he inhibits himself to please people that will never stop judging him. Although that realization is a nice little break through, it is not really very helpful to them at the moment, as they go to face a killer without a way to defend themselves.
