CHAPTER 52

• AURORA’S POV•

Could the days run any faster?

It’s been two days since we made the plan and it would be excused tomorrow but today seems so long and it’s taking forever to get to the next day. I was anxious as to how it would turn out and if it would go as planned. Also, I would get to see Matteo again after it’s over which is the only part of the plan I was looking forward to.

I really miss him so much.

Not being able to get some sleep, it was already past 1am I decided to grab something too much on. Putting on my nightie robe I go to the dining and grab a bag of chips from the top shelves where we kept quite an amount of snacks thanks to Bella who was a snack addict.

I sit quietly in the dark doing nothing than munch on my chips when I hear footsteps coming from the other side of the room. I freeze as fear takes over my entire being. I was armless but that’s fine, I could throw a punch or two before help comes if it goes awry

CHAPTER 53 •MATTEO’S POV•It’s the D-day for the plan to roll in place. I’ve been worked up for the past three days setting plans in place alongside Austin and Anthony who helped to create a perfect plan.Austin had suggested the place where Aurora would be while the plan commenced as we thought the house wouldn’t be the best option. She was to be with Bella and Austin at a private lounge which was situated a few blocks away from the restaurant where the plan was taking place. The restaurant was booked out by me to avoid innocent people being injured during the attack.“Is all set and ready?” I ask Anthony as he walks into the restaurant with a lady who looks almost the same as Aurora in terms of physical appearance. It will be suspicious if Sebastian comes in and doesn’t see any female. She sits backing the door so he doesn’t see her face.Turning the girl, she looks nervous “Don’t worry about anything and just sit pretty. Wine and dine, leave the rest to us.

CHAPTER 54 •AURORA’S POV•“She’s doing fine…” I hear Bella tell someone over the phone. She’s in the bathroom talking to someone over the phone who I guess should be Matteo or Anthony. We were at a Private lounge somewhere not too far off from the restaurant where Matteo was. Austin and Bella were with me too, there were no other guards aside from the two of them as we didn’t know who the inside person was, so we decided it would be safe if I were to be with just Austin and Bella. The only people who knew about this place were; myself, Anthony, Bella and Austin. “I’m safe here and Matteo would be fine.” That was all I thought about as I sat here waiting for Good news.“You good Aurora?” Bella asked as she stepped out of the bathroom her phone in hand. “You look tensed.”“Yeah, I know. Is it that obvious?” I try to fake a smile but she knows me better than that.“Of course it is. Matteo just called and he’s doing fine so just keep your worries aside” she

I felt extremely stupid and useless for the first time in my life.AURORA……her name kept ringing in my head reminding me of the picture of her in the pool of her blood. Helpless because of me.Only if we didn’t get married……she could have been safe. I promised to keep her safe yet all she gets is getting hurt and almost dying. I won’t forgive myself if anything happens to her.The private lounge was thirty minutes away but I got there in less than ten minutes, faster than the 911 service Bella had called.Bella had called me while I was heading there and I could barely hear her as she talked in between sobs, “Brother….Au..Aurora has been attacked…. she's bleeding profusely and….and there’s so much blood…. it's my fault…it’s my fault I’m sorry.” She wailed from the p

She wasn’t dead! How did Sebastian mess up this much after all the chances I had given him to deliver a neat job? The sound of my breathing could be heard from a few feet away as I stood in my room thinking of my next move.Matteo will be onto Sebastian now and knowing the kind of man he is when messed with, it won’t be long before he closes in on him and makes him confess about his Alibi.Sebastian had been reckless this time around and was almost caught by those two, Bella and Austin. Sloppy!I can’t afford to be caught, not when everything is falling into place. Aurora’s attack had gone “almost” as planned, too bad she refused to die despite Sebastian’s attempt to break her skull. Such a feisty little girl. Tho it hasn’t worked out, Matteo is a wreck now because of that little girl which is exactly where I want him to be. Vulnerable

I stayed by her side for days not willing to leave her even for a brief moment, I was in so much grief seeing what I put her through. On the other hand, Sebastian was nowhere to be found. I had hired a private investigator, Ethan who operated in the shadows to find him. He was highly recommended as one who could find any person even if the person were dead.“Make sure to find him and bring him to me alive, he must pay for making my wife this way.” I had instructed him.“Noted Sir Rocco. He will be brought to you in a week.” He responded.A week was too long. “Make it four days. Bring him to me in four days.” I ordered and he agreed to my terms. It’s been the third day and I didn’t get a feedback from Ethan. Ethan was on his way to the hospital with the phone and Anthony was here with me. Bella stepped out for a moment to check on Austin who was a few wards away from Aurora. He was badly wounded and had a cut above his shoulder. At first, he had refused to come to the hospital after first aid was applied to his wound but two nights ago he slumped due to an infection in the wound and had to be admitted. For now he wasn’t working on the case and didn’t know what was going on cause if he did, he would want to be of help even in his wounded state.Ethan is here sooner than expected as he walks into the room with hurried strides b

CHAPTER 59 •ANTHONY’S POV•Leaving Matteo with Aurora in the room, I step outside the hospital building for some air. It’s been a roller coaster of emotions these past few days for each of us and it’s getting worse as it’s almost two weeks yet no signs of waking up from Aurora. It was taking a toll on us.I spot Bella sitting in the garden in the middle of the hospital again, it had become her usual spot to sit and think. She’s been blaming herself heavily for the accident with Aurora and even after Matteo had tried to convince her that it wasn’t her fault, she just kept on blaming herself. I had been watching her for a few minutes now, trying to figure out what to say to her —how to console her.It wasn’t easy seeing her like this. Bella wasn’t the type to show her emotions easily, but ever since Aurora’s accident, she’d been burying herself under the weight of what happened. Blaming herself all the time and it broke me seeing her that way. I’ve had a cr

I look around me but I don’t see any signs of another person with me. Suddenly I feel the presence of another person, I’m not alone, I think to myself. She looks so familiar like someone I know but u could barely see her as she was a bit away from me and had clouds over her face. MATTEO’S POV"No."That was the first word out of my mouth the moment Aurora stepped into the room. I had thought about how I would try to talk her out of joining us in meeting Sofia but seeing how she looked right now told me that if I didn’t stop her, she would pull up something reckless when we got there. Dressed in a black leather jumpsuit paired with a pair of black boots, Her eyes still had that mechanical look to them and she just looked… DANGEROUS."You're not coming with us," I said again, louder this time. She didn’t flinch. "I am." She bent down to adjust the laces of her boots as if I wasn’t talking to her. Bella blinked. "Aurora… you look like you're heading to kill someone.""I might.""Absolutely not," I snapped, moving toward her. "You’re not going into that place dressed like—""Like someone ready to get her son back?" she interrupted.Anthony stood behind me, arms folded and just stared at Aurora before he spoke up. "This isn't a battlefield, Aurora.""Isn’t it? My

MATTEO’S POVThe whole house was thrown into chaos with Liam’s disappearance with Sofia. Aurora hadn’t said a word for hours, as if in a trance and the worst part…Riccardo had insisted on not talking which was nerve-wracking. “All fingers point to Sofia, she has a hand in Alfredo’s disappearance.”Bella pointed out a matter of factly as we tried without end to reach Sofia’s phone but to no avail. “I can’t believe this is happening again and to my son at that. I wish she took me instead.” Aurora’s voice came from the corner of the where she sat in tears. “I really do wish she took me instead of my son, my baby is too young and precious for this.” Loud sobs came at the last part as her body shook violently. I pulled my wife into my arms whispering comforting things to her. Bella and Anthony came close, “Sofia won’t hurt him Aurora, she might be acting this way but would never hurt her nephew. She might be acting up cause of something.” Bella said softly.“But what does she want?” I fi

AURORA’S POV“At this rate, I’ll be late picking up Liam.” I sighed as I took another glance at my watch, it was more than twenty minutes and no sign of Bella. She’d asked to meet but she wasn’t showing up. Dailing her number a couple of times with no response I made to leave the ice cream shop heading towards my car when a message dropped in. Opening my inbox my blood ran cold. “No…no.” I whispered in fear as I looked at the image of my baby boy asleep in the back seat of a car. My mind went black as I jumped into my car and sped up to his kindergarten which was just a three-minute drive from the ice cream shop. “God it better be a prank… not my baby God I beg of you.” I kept praying as my heart slammed against my chest in fear. Immediately I got to the school premises I caught sight of Liam’s homeroom teacher out in the front with some other kids whose parents were yet to pick up. She sees me and waves my way. “Mrs Rocco, what are you doing here?” She asks warmly with a confused

MATTEO’S POVDay three into Sofia’s disappearance and Alfredo's supposed death. That was how long it had been then. Three days, and we still had nothing except her abandoned car in the hotel parking lot. She checked in and never came out leaving everyone fucking worried. And as if that isn't enough, the damn DNA results were still being delayed by Hughes and Dawson. "I want those results on my desk in an hour," I snapped into the phone talking to Dawson, pacing the length of my office. "I don't care what the holdup is. Make it happen. And don’t bring up that crap that he was burnt beyond recognition else I'll Have you burnt as well."The man on the other end stammered, trying to feed me more excuses. I hung up before I lost my temper completely. This was already getting me on edge as it's been days and we've still had nothing from the forensics or the CCTV footage.I turned to Anthony, who was leaning against the desk, his eyes glued to the screen monitoring the CCTV footage. SOFIA’S POV.I had to get Matteo off my tail and getting rid of my car was the first part. I parked it at the hotel where we usually hosted our family events, flashed a fake smile at the concierge, booked a room under my name, and took the requested to go out through the back exit and took a taxi to Alfredo’s hideout. I knew Matteo will track my car and it would be easy to find me. It’s been three days since our fall out and it was time to get plans rolling. Dawson has been on my neck cause of the pressure from Matteo and I had asked for three days. Damn it! I hate rushed things. "Ricardo, where's Matteo now?" I whisper, pacing Alfredo’s dimly lit apartment. My fingers drum against my thigh as I hold the phone tight to my ear. Leaving Riccardo behind wasn't part of my plan but worked in my favor as I could keep track of what my brother was up to."Still on the DNA results. He's pressing hard as Dawson is stalling to buy time for you. Anthony is headed to the forensics right now to

AURORA’S POVMatteo picked up on the third ring."What is it?" His voice was sharp and edgy. I guess his meeting at the morgue didn’t go well. Today was just one drama after another."Sofia just left the house," I said quickly. "She stormed out after a fight with Bella. I don’t know where she’s going, but she looked…dangerous Matteo, I’ve never seen her that way even when she was mad at someone. It didn’t feel right."A pause. "How long ago?" His voice came back on the line. "Minutes. She took her car, alone. Didn’t wait for her bodyguard.""Stay put. I’m coming back.""What? I thought you were still at the morgue?""I’m done there and heading home. I’ll be there soon. Don’t let Bella do anything reckless, she’s not the type that will let Sofia off the hook easily after a fight just because they’re siblings."He hung up before I could ask more. Typical.I turned to Bella, who was still fuming from the fight. She had a split lip, and her hands were shaking. Infact her whole body was v

Breathing in and out I try to control my breath as I breathe in and out to calm my nerves. “Once I’m done with you guys, you’ll know better than mess me.” I throw myself back into bed and remain in that position looking at the ceiling for almost an hour when my phone notification beeps signaling a message. My hands trembled as I gripped my phone, staring at the last message Dawson sent me. He’s been pulling strings for me in prison in exchange for money to settle his wife’s hospital bills.“They’re questioning the body. Matteo ordered a DNA test. A burn? Did he set himself on fire? Why wasn’t this said over the phone before we got here?Dr. Hughes, the forensic pathologist, gestured toward the covered body on the steel table. “We received him early this morning. AURORA’S POVIt’s 8:30 am and no signs of Sofia being back home, pretty sure she didn’t sleep at home last night as I didn’t see her bodyguard as well. Anthony loads her plate with some food while Bella’s eyes scan the table questioningly, “Uhmm…where’s Soph? Has anyone checked in on her, she complained of cramps yesterday.” She noted. “I doubt she’s home, knocked on her door several times and nothing. Her phone’s not available as well.” I point out and just after I spoke we hear someone walk in and all heads turn simultaneously. There she is.Raising from my seat and grabbing a plate and spoon for her to use I query her “Where have you been? We’ve been looking for and just spoke about you ju
