"You only hire men with no past," Violet said calmly, referring to one of Carl's rules.

Instantly, the room's temperature dropped.

Carl looked at him with such ferocity that it froze everyone else to the spot. They did not dare to say anything to the contrary.

Then, he glanced to his left and right. Reed got the hint and immediately told the rest of the bodyguards to get the assassins out of the room before leaving as well.

Elle wasn't happy about this. She considered herself Carl's girlfriend, but in reality, they were just friends with benefits. He could replace her at any time.
