Chapter 4 What Bullshit Contract Is This?

Violet sized Carl up. He was undoubtedly handsome, but he was also cruel and cold. He was expressionless, striking fear into the hearts of everyone who met him.

Violet definitely wouldn't want to live with a man as unbearable as Carl.

Carl just gave Violet a glance. Unexpectedly, the "man" in front of him stared back.

Normally, nobody could look into his eyes for more than ten seconds. Those who could rarely remained so calm.

Thus, this young man interested him. Like all other men, he was competitive. He stared back, attempting to scare him off.

Violet wasn't falling for it. She was prepared for Carl's coldness, so she wasn't about to fall at his feet even though she was awed.

Reed could feel the tense atmosphere and nudged Violet lightly.

Violet just stared at Carl, waiting for him to speak.

For the first time ever, Carl's cold demeanor failed to work. He was both curious and furious about the "man" standing before him. If he could defeat all his rivals without wrinkling his shirt, then he must be good.

"What's your name?" he asked, glancing at Violet's impassive expression.

"Vincent Cooper."

Carl narrowed his eyes dangerously. There was a dangerous light in his eyes that seemed to see right through her.

Violet clenched her fists loosely. She was cautious around Carl, but she still felt like a loser in front of him.

Suddenly, someone knocked on the door again. "Mr. Walker, the new maid is here."

"Come in."

Soon, the new maid stood beside Violet.

As per Carl's requirements, the new maid was beautiful.

"Introduce yourself to Mr. Walker," Reed said.

"Mr. Walker, my name is Marina Bailey." Marina's voice was clear and pleasing to the ear. She looked attractive, with one of her canines poking out whenever she spoke.

Carl gave her a brief glance before returning his gaze to Violet.

Violet's head was lowered as she thought about how to save Whitney. When Carl looked at her, she looked back up hastily.

When Carl fixed her with his gaze, she felt as if she had been petrified.

Carl looked satisfied at Violet's defensive manner.

"Get them to sign the contract," he said to Reed.

Carl stood up. When he passed by Violet, he slowed down briefly, then strode out of the room.

Violet breathed a sigh of relief. Every second of their encounter was nerve-wracking to her.

"Have a seat," Reed said as he brought out two files. "If you want to work here, you need to sign a contract."

"What contract?" Marina asked.

"Take a look," Reed said.

Violet opened up the file. There were ten pages in it, with a long list of rules and clauses.

The two most important clauses were the salary, which was ten thousand dollars, and the exit clause.

The contract specified that all employees belonged to Carl in the first five years after signing it. They could be fired, but they couldn't resign. It was just like slavery.

Violet figured that if she signed this today, she would be under Carl's control for the next five years. That would spell trouble.

Marina scanned the contract quickly, then picked up a pen and signed it.

"Are you not going to sign it?" Reed asked Violet.

Violet gritted her teeth and signed the contract as well.

"You can go and get your uniforms. You'll start immediately." Reed did not give them a chance to argue. "You can stay in your respective dormitories outside. There will be two shifts a day. You cannot leave the premises without prior permission."

Marina turned to Violet. "Nice to meet you."

"And you," Violet replied disinterestedly. She was trying her best to listen to whatever was happening outside. She could hear Whitney grumbling about something.

After changing into her uniform, Violet joined the bodyguards. She stood out in the middle of the fleet of men who were at least six feet tall.

Five minutes later, she began to get restless.
