Casey P.O.V
After paying the cab driver I exited the cab and quickly rushed into my office, soaking from top to bottom and did not need to start on my makeup. I probably looked like a drenched cat . I ran towards the elevator. “STOP!”. The doors shut on my face and I crashed into it. Damn it. I took the stairs by the lift , rushing up like I was chased by hounds of hell . My office was on the seventh floor and I had climbed up seven flights of stairs. I think the thing that lost weight is my legs because upon reaching my floor I could hardly feel my legs, my lungs were burning because of how fast I was running. The celebration around the cubical caught my attention. People had gathered around my junior and for some reason they were congratulating her . I put my bag down on my desk and asked with a smile “What is all this about?”. My co-worker smirked and said “I have been promoted to assistant manager of the company”. Her words wiped the smile right off my face. “Congrats” said through my grinding teeths and snatched my bag off the table . “ I just need to use the washroom ”. My co-worker nodded with a fake pouty face. Her lips never looked more like she had been kissed by a duck or her lips might have stuck while kissing a vacuum cleaner . I do not know how people get attracted to lip enhancement surgery when the end is that. I ran straight to my boss ' office and without knowing I barged in. My boss was talking on the phone and our company mascot was sitting opposite to him . They were both shocked to see me burged in the office. The mascot stood as the happy song of our company theme started playing from the recorder of its suit and began its signature dance. I never wanted to strangle someone more than at this moment. “Mr Hodder I have to talk to the boss , if you do not move out of my face in a few seconds then I will make you go from Hodder to Horror”. It would be amusing to look at a man wearing a cute teddy bear costume with a song playing from it ,the teddy bowed its head and walked out. I waited till the door closed to rip my boss into a new one and from the way he was swallowing . And this is the moment he knows he fucked up. I went straight to my boss around the desk, grabbed him by the collar and lifted him up by it . “Albert sir that promotion, that promotion, I have worked my butts off for five straight years. Not one , not two , not three , five straight years, I have brought this company clients after client and they never complained about my work. Did they ?” My boss shook his head no .I did not know how I pulled it off when he is quite muscular compared to my size . Never come between a girl's food or promotion then a beauty can turn into a beast and beat the shit out of you . If it was any other time I would not act like a female Hulk ready to send her boss into outer space. NASA will soon find his body, hopefully before his body is no more. “I did the deeds and the fruit was taken by someone else. Samantha started later than I had , and could not do work without making mistakes. Then how in the world of Lucifer did she get the promotion?” I threw him back on his chair . I think my boss is more shocked to find that the girl who acts like a wet scared cat that can be bullied more easily than he did before suddenly becomes a wild fierce tiger . “I will explain if you please sit down ”. He straightened his collar and pulled out a folder, “Casey you have been missing office from last few months, did not bring any new client, took less number of events than average , there were complaints from the clients and today you crashed the company car , police have taken the car away”. His wife will not miss him if his body is found in his office lying dead, would she? “Instead of you, Samantha took over your clients and brought profit to the company”. We know how late night meetings have led to this promotion because no real work is getting done until and unless she takes out time of her beholding herself which is a myth. “I have been missing work days for only three months and that is also very few because there were some problems going on in my life and I did bring new projects and it was not like I was sitting idly , I have been working. How can you judge my work based on just three months while I am working five years straight without taking any holiday . I was going through a rough patch so I let it loose but I still did my work.” “You crashed the company car and the repair f*e is going to be deducted from your monthly salary.” My mouth was hanging open. The guts of this man! I stood up and put my hands flat on the table with a bang to lean close “First of all that is not a car that is a death trap, you can call something a car that has four wheels hardly attached to the base and God have mercy on that steering wheel my goodness! I am lucky that this thing did not come into my hands when I crashed into the other car. The only thing that worked was the brakes and what are you talking about deducting money last time Samantha crashed the new company truck and she did not have to pay a single dollar, so what do you have to say about that ?” I did not add that ‘you covered up for her’. Upon hearing me he started stammering on his words like a last hand generator which is going to take its last breath soon. “I do not know anything, it is the decision of the management . If you want to continue to work here you will accept it otherwise you can leave ”. “Management’s decision or your decision?” I sat down back on the chair with legs crossed.“I am not going anywhere until and unless you change your decision”. A Few Moments Later……. “I am not moving a inch from here unless you are promoting me as the next assistant manager. Let me see who can move me”. A Whole Entity Later……… I walked out of the office with a cardboard box filled with my belongings . “Nobody cares about a hard worker. You will regret this day and when you come crawling back on your knees for my forgiveness and ask me to return, I will close my door in your face ” I said it looking at the security guard who was looking at me as if I have lost my mind which I might have.My phone started ringing just as I finished.Balancing the box on my other arm I received the call while walking on the sidewalk. I have to take the bus to go home because technically I am jobless and I am getting my check a few days after . “Casey , I was going to call you to ask when are you going to leave work today?” Her words brought out the feelings that I was suppressing for so long . I covered my mouth, sobe broke through my body as tears rolled down my cheeks. “Casey ,Casey my dear what happened? Casey, you are worrying me . Casey ”. “Zazu, I lost my job. I…Th-ey have prom-oted Sama-ntha in my pla-ce. Whe-n I tried to pro-test against it.They sa-id either I acc-ept it other-wis-e I have to lea-ve the com-pany ”. Another sobe broke through my body. “It's fine tonight. We are going to meet at the restaurant and we are going to talk it out. Do not worry we will find a solution ”. If only she can solve my problem like a fairy godmother .Casey P.O.V“Have you gotten out of work yet? I am almost done , about to leave the apartment ”. I placed the phone on the dressing table with the speaker on . I will go with the soft cherry colour lip gloss. It is going to bring out the colour of my dress . My dress was a red crop top, embroidered with black net and with a heart shaped neckline attached with a black leather body fit skirt that looked like a second skin , along with a belt .My ass looks good in the skirt. Usually I am more of a sweatpants and loose shirt kind of girl but I am jobless and soon will be a homeless kind of girl if I do not pay the rent soon, so why not treat myself for one day and forget the shit that has gone down. Placing the perfume back on the table to pop another mini Cooke in my mouth. Yumm these goodies are a piece of heaven. I rubbed my wrist against each other.“What is the point of going for dinner if you are going after finishing a tank of cookies ?” I took another cookie and started munching
Casey P.O.V“Thank you” . After paying the cab I entered the restaurant. The restaurant’s entrance bell chimed above me , a welcoming smile from the attendant greeted me. The warm ambiance of the place, with its soft lighting and murmured conversations, momentarily eased my nerves. "Reservation for Deniz," I said, my voice steady. The attendant checked the list and nodded, "Right this way.”As we weaved through the maze of tables, I glanced around, half expecting my friends to come on time for once. But no, they were fashionably late as always. The attendant led me to a table with a perfect view of the entire restaurant. As I settled into my seat, I let out a small sigh of relief, allowing myself a moment of relaxation. Then, as if the universe decided I was too comfortable, I saw him. My heart dropped. There he was, my ex-boyfriend, walking into the restaurant with the girl he had cheated on me with. Panic surged through me, and I instinctively shrank into my chair, hoping they wouldn’
Casey P.O.V Deciding I needed something stronger than water to handle this, I moved to the bar. I can not watch my ex-boyfriend kneel down and propose to the girl he cheated on me with anymore like he did not make his happy paradise on someone's grief. The bartender greeted me with a smile. "What can I get you?”. He was not wearing what the other bartenders were wearing, black shirt with the logo and pants instead he was wearing a sleeveless beige denim T-shirt , with a chain necklace around his neck , he was wearing scratched jeans , usually it looks on men like they have been disowned by their family and have been on streets for weeks but somehow he made it look great on him It was like fate just slapped me on my face when the cheers grew louder. "Whiskey, straight," I quickly replied, taking a seat in the bar. I shook my head when my head began to spin. It must be the wine I was drinking before. As the bartender poured my drink, I glanced over at my ex, who was beaming at his
Casey P.O.VI woke up with a start, my head pounding and my mind foggy. I looked around. I was in an unfamiliar hotel room. I was alone on the bed with a blanket over me, and my head was pounding like thousands of trucks ran over my head. I tried to sit up, but a wave of dizziness washed over me, forcing me back onto the pillow. I groaned with my eyes tight closed while I pinched the bridge of my nose in pain. What happened last night? I thought, rubbing my temples. The last thing I remembered was drinking at the bar, the bartender was serving me drinks whose head I was frying with my sob story and then nothing. As I lay there, I became aware that I was not alone in the room as the sound of flowing water came from somewhere inside the room . My eyes flew open wide. I looked around the room, my shoes were on the floor. I quickly looked under the blanket that I was covered with. Why in the name of Hades I am naked under the cover? I quickly pulled the cover up to my chin. My heart ski
Casey P.O.VThe apartment was in disarray, a testament to the whirlwind of emotions that had swept through it. Clothes were strewn across the floor, half-packed boxes littered the living room, and the faint sound of honking from the moving truck outside filtered in through the open windows."You still have two days but you decide you will move out today only just a few hours after your ex told you to move out, " Zazu said , her voice seething with anger as she pulled out a suitcase from the closet. She opened the suitcase on the bed, somehow folded clothes and placed them into a suitcase, though she was angry her movements were deliberate and calm whereas I was throwing anything in the bag on whatever I was getting my hands on.“I just want to get out of here and end this drama" I replied, throwing another handful of belongings into a bag with a mix of anger and sadness. "I can't believe he did this to me. I trusted him and kept the house in his name because….”. I dumped another set o
Owen P.O.VTurning the shower off I lifted the towel off the rack to dry myself off.I stepped out of the bathroom, wrapping the towel around my waist, and gazed around the room. The bed was a tangled mess, sheets strewn about like a wild animal had ravaged it. The pillows were scattered across the floor, and the blankets were twisted and knotted. But the girl from last night was nowhere to be seen.I scanned the room, my eyes searching for any sign of her. Her purse was not on the table, her phone and keys next to it were all gone. "Hello?" I called out, my voice echoing off the walls. "You here?" I flipped the long curtains of the window to see if she was hiding there. You never know when girls get some weird ideas of hiding and the girl from the last night sure came from the psychopath category.I approached the bed, peering underneath, thinking maybe she'd passed out or fell down and rolled under the bed. Who knows. After experiencing her Jacky Chan moves last night I can believe
Casey P.O.VThe blaring alarm clock filled the room with shrill sound, yet I stubbornly kept my eyes shut. My hand groped blindly across the nightstand, fumbling for the off button. After a few frustrating moments, I finally silenced the intrusive noise. Without opening my eyes, I yanked open the drawer, chucked the alarm clock inside, and slammed it shut with a satisfying thud.Good riddance. With a deep, relieved sigh, I nestled back into my pillows, eager to reclaim the remnants of my dream.Just as the bliss of sleep began to envelop me once more, my phone alarm erupted into a shrill symphony, shattering my fleeting peace.Fine, fine, I am up,” I muttered, dragging myself to sit on the bed. Squinting against the dim light, I patted the bed and nightstand until my fingers closed around my phone. I turned off the alarm and set it back on the nightstand, the screen briefly illuminating the time: two hours until my job interview. With a deep breath, I pushed the covers aside and swung
Author P.O.V “Following you? Wow dude , you sure think something of yourself. I would not waste my breath on a guy like and stalking you is the last thing I want to do in this universe" Casey retorted. She folded her arms and looked straight ahead "I am just trying to get to an interview but nothing is going according to the plan.I do not know whose face I have seen first after waking that my entire day is going so bad. First the car broke down and now this man”. “Must have seen her own” Owen whispered, looking out of the window. “Did you just say something?” She gave her a side eye. “Nothing. I just said you are looking beautiful”. Owen gave her a sarcastic smile. “Nice cover up but already heard what you have said .Now get out, that is the least you could do after what you have done.” she said, and looked out of the window. “Then why did you ask ? Why would I leave the cab and what do you mean by that is the least you could do after what you have done? ” Owen gave her a conf
Casey P.O.VThe air inside the bridal shop smelled faintly of lavender and vanilla, a stark contrast to the chaos in my mind. Lauren was in front of a floor length mirror, swishing back and forth in an ivory gown that glimmered faintly under the boutique's lights. Zazu was helping her to put on the veil .The veil cascaded in delicate waves, pure white and nearly translucent, reaching gracefully down to the floor. Its edges were adorned with intricate lace, soft floral patterns curling like whispers of elegance. When the light hit it , it shimmered faintly, as if dusted with stardust, adding an ethereal glow. It framed Lauren’s face gently, creating an aura of serene beauty and timeless grace.I stood at the edge of the room, sipping on complimentary champagne, trying to avoid Owen’s gaze as he rifled through some paperwork at the front desk. I still had not figured out how we ended up with a marriage certificate tucked in his wallet and worse, why he was so nonchalant about it.The ni
Casey P.O.VMy eyes fluttered open, and immediately, a sharp, splitting pain shot through my head. I groaned, slumping back onto the pillow as I clutched my temples, trying to will the headache away. My body protested every small movement, reminding me that drinking beyond my limits had been a grave mistake. A cold sensation grazed my skin, making me glance down at my hand.My eyes grew wide in shock.A ring. A massive diamond encrusted ring sat on my finger, glinting mockingly under the morning light. My groggy brain jolted to life, and the pounding in my head was momentarily forgotten.What. The. Hell.Where did this ring come from and why is it on my ring finger?I blinked hard, willing myself to remember how this ring had ended up on my hand. My mind was blank, my memories scattered like puzzle pieces I could not fit together. I knew I had left my engagement ring back in the hotel safe before going out with others to that club, last night, so where had this come from?Panicking, I
Casey P.O.V As Owen stepped out of the ring, his chest heaving, exhaustion flickered across his face. The bruise on his jaw was already turning a vivid shade of purple, and I felt a surge of emotions rising within me. Relief that all his body parts are still intact. Anger at his recklessness for getting distracted during the fight. I got it. It was something he used to do to survive, and maybe it gave him some sense of control or release, but seeing him hurt, was a different story for me. Before I could voice my thoughts, Lauren bounded over, practically buzzing with excitement. "Wasn’t that amazing?" she asked, her eyes gleaming with pride. "You nailed it, brother!" "Amazing is not the word I would use," I muttered, crossing my arms. My eyes stayed on Owen as he collected his winnings from the announcer, pausing occasionally to shake hands with the people congratulating him. As the crowd began to thin, he finally made his way over to us. “Hey,” he greeted, his voice hoarse, no d
Casey P.O.V“Where are we?” I asked again, exasperation dripping from my voice. Lauren had been dragging us through a maze of back alleys behind a building that looked like it had seen better days. She turned to look at me with a smirk, her fiancé trailing behind her, looking as skeptical as I felt.“You’ll see,” she said with an air of mystery, checking her watch as if we were late for something significant.Lauren was not one to shy away from surprises, but I was not sure how much I liked this one. Owen had disappeared earlier in the afternoon, claiming he had “something to handle,” and now we were left in his sister’s hands. I glanced down at my outfit. Jean shorts, a tucked-in black shirt, sneakers, and a ponytail. Zazu, ever the fashion icon, had chosen a black bodycon dress and boots. Lauren, on the other hand, looked like she was ready for an adventure with her leather boots, jean shorts, and black jacket. There was a red handkerchief hanging from her shorts’s pocket. It was ju
Casey P.O.V.I took another bite of my croissant, chewing slowly, savouring the flaky texture and buttery flavour as I studied Owen across the table. He looked rough. His eyes were red, swollen, and slightly bloodshot, definitely suffering from a lack of sleep. He was sitting there, slouched over, his coffee cup gripped tightly in both hands like it was the only thing holding him upright. His usually lively face was replaced with dark circles and the telltale signs of a long, sleepless night. I almost felt sorry for him . Almost. After all, he was the one who insisted on sleeping beside me, despite my warning. He thought I was joking all the while I was telling the truth.Zazu and my twin brothers, Marco and Max, walked into the restaurant’s dining area, scanning the room. As soon as the twins spotted the buffet, they immediately dashed over, filling their plates to the brim with all the food they could carry. They were acting like starving vampires that have been kept locked inside a
Casey P.O.V I knelt down on the floor beside the bed, spreading the quilt out. I set a pillow at the head of the makeshift bed I had prepared, smoothing it out to make sure everything looked just right. As I reached for the extra bedsheet, draping it over the quilt, the bathroom door opened with a soft click that caught my attention. Owen emerged, towel in hand, rubbing his hair dry, a few strands falling messily across his forehead. He paused, taking in the sight of me on the floor. “Oh no, no, no, no, Casey” he said, mockingly, an exaggerated shake of his head . “ You are going to sleep on the floor?” I glanced up, just in time to see him bending over with his hands gripping his knees. He wore his old T-shirt and low hanging joggers that showed just enough to make it clear he had not lost a single bit of his absurd confidence. I rolled my eyes and went back to arranging the bedding, determined to ignore him. “Who said it was for me?” I shot back, without looking up. He straig
Casey P.O.VStepping out of the steamy bathroom, I rubbed my hair with a towel, my skin still tingling from the hot shower. My PJs,a small tank top and shorts were cosy but barely there, especially given the presence of Owen pacing in the room like a caged animal. When he saw me, he stopped in his tracks, his gaze lingering just a second too long.“You can use the bathroom now,” I said, stepping aside so he could pass. He nodded, grabbed his towel, and headed in to freshen up. I shook my head and tried to ignore the flip my stomach made every time I caught his eye. I have to endure a few more nights of this misery.I went over to the bed, grabbing a quilt and extra sheet with a pillow, intending to make a bed on the floor. But just as I was about to set everything down, Owen’s voice came from the bathroom, muffled by the sound of running water.“Hey, I forgot my clothes on the chair. Could you bring them in?” I rolled my eyes, muttering under my breath, “Of course you did.” Neverthel
Casey P.O.VThe restaurant was a vision of elegance, with dim lighting casting a warm glow over the polished tables, each one adorned with pristine white linens and a tasteful centrepiece. We were here to celebrate Vegas elopement of Owen’s sister, Lauren, to her fiancé, Marcus, and the dinner was supposed to be a calm, family gathering. But given that our mothers were already on edge, it felt more like sitting on a powder keg with a lit fuse.Lauren and Marcus arrived first, both glowing and hand-in-hand, followed by Marcus’s family, who looked thrilled to be here. His parents, David and Linda, were the picture of class, with smiles on their faces as they greeted each of us warmly. Their plane landed this evening.Thank goodness they did not see that disaster. We were determined to make a good impression, and I could see my mother and Maria silently sizing each other up, like lions crouched and ready to pounce, but maintaining their best behaviour under the watchful eyes of the new in-
Casey P.O.VMy stepfather finally managed to settle things with the police officer and get both mothers out of the cell, though not without a warning. I could practically feel the officer's glare on our backs as we left. I do not blame him, this poor man has suffered a lot in our mothers hands.I was pretty sure our families had landed themselves on some kind of blacklist. The officer’s warning had been clear, and he wasn’t sugarcoating it for them. “Next time,” he’d said, “There would not be any bailing out.” Owen’s mother shot him a scowl before marching out, chin high. My mom, arms crossed and muttering under her breath, barely glanced his way. The entire car ride was as peaceful as the peace before the storm.Back at the hotel, however, the peace died in an instant. As we approached the front desk to get our room keys, a new argument was already bubbling up between our mothers. They were not even bothering to keep their voices low.“You think I am going to let my daughter stay in
