Joshua clung to her arm, terrified. "No, don't! I'm scared."

Cynthia turned on all the lights in the living room, trying to calm him down. However, she underestimated Joshua's fear. No matter what she said, Joshua still held onto her arm, overwhelmed by fear and dread.
