In his study, Lucas plugs the USB with the video into his computer and rewatches the video again and again. And each time, he stops on the car and just can't seem to see more than that original sequence of numbers."4B3..." He muttered over and over again. He rifles in his drawers and finds his book of fellow businessmen and he looks for Woods in it.He doesn't look long before he sees Andrew Woods. He taps the numbers on his phone and dials it. Earnestly hoping that it'll go through and he'll pick up, thankfully, Andrew does."Hello?" His weary voice comes through the receiver."I'm so sorry to be calling this late but I was wondering if Detective Grey is still over there?"He had been seeing the detective around so he knows what's going on, even when they had been at Glades, he had seen him leave but he had not paid much thought to it until he had seen him watching every little interaction at the funeral."Yes... Oh, he just left. Please hold on, he should not be far out.""Thank yo
The mid day the next day meets Lucas and Detective Grey sitting opposite one another in a small and cozy cafe.Detective Grey is drinking from a small mug of steaming black coffee and looking at Lucas over the rim of the cup. "So, how did you come about the recording... Sir?"Lucas can tell that the sir was added after an aftermath of thinking whether he should be rude or nice... The good cop or the bad cop."I got it from the security guard office in the estate.""Why didn't we get that when it came out? We did many sweeps and checks and nothing popped up...""Are you saying that there's the possibility that I have manipulated the video?" Lucas asks, one eye raised.Grey puts down the cup in his hands and spreads out his palms, shrugging. "What do you think? If you were me, won't you think of that possibility? All I am asking is why it didn't pop up at the right time.""I asked the guard the same question as well... He said the camera had been obscured from view for a pretty long wh
Smith lowers the newspaper just as Grey walks out of the cafe after paying for his coffee. He takes a glance at Smith before he leaves but, just like the other covert glances, he does not take note that he's been seen.Grey starts up his car and drives out of the parking lot just as he puts down the newspaper after sighing heavily. "Excuse me, can I please get a cup of coffee, with milk and sugar?""Coming right up sir."He folds the newspaper on the desk as he processes everything he had heard, and of course, who didn't know Lucas Santinello? Even police officers who had dreams knew of him, and so did Smith. He picks out his phone from his pocket and dials a number. "Good afternoon ma'am."It's a female voice and it's very known to us all. "Hello Officer. Am I being summoned to the police station again?" She asks."Not at all, Ms Lily. I just have something to tell you. I figured you might be interested in hearing about it.""Oh, what is that?" On the other side, Lily is happy that g
Hi everyone, Samantha here. For those who have been following me from the beginning of this novel will know that I post regularly, everyday, if not. So, you might have been wondering why I haven't posted this Month. First of all, I am tired and exhausted. And I fear that I am inputting my tiredness into the book and I don't want that. not for you, nor for anybody. So, I am taking a break for this Month to get my energy back, yeah, a break. Haven't taken one in a year. So, I am sorry I am just telling you all in the middle of the month but I'm sure we prioritize my health because there will be no Mikayla or Lucas Santinello without good health. Thank you very much for understanding and seeing from my point of view. Now, this is a personal promise that as from 1st October, daily updates will begin once again. With love, -Samantha...❤️
Gray bursts into the station, walking down the hallway and greeting other officers that mid afternoon, with the USB being twirled over and over in the middle of his fingers and palms. He takes the elevator to the second floor where he bursts into the office, his face hard and set in a straight line.As he gets to his chair, pushes it backwards and sits in it, craning his neck to see if Smith is back inside but his chair is empty.“Looking for him?” The clerical officer asks, looking up from her computer.“Just let me lay my hands on that son of a bitch, I’ll show him just how much important the oath we take at the police school is.”“Wow. You are riled up. What did he do this time?”“I met with a key person in the Price Woods case but he was right there in the cafe spying on me.”“Spying?”“Yes. Spying, no doubt that he would have someone he would be giving those information to. I can see him relating what he just heard over to Lily.”“Then why aren’t you with her? Maybe she will lead
"Come in sir, she's ready to have you." Daniella says as she invites Lucas into Mikayla's office that afternoon for their regular lunch meetings. Only that today, Mikayla had a meeting running late and lunch break is not going to be as long as it usually is, so they are having takeout delivered to Mi-nello for them both. It hasn't arrived yet but the meeting, thankfully, has come to an end and now the contract of Bvlgari will be getting renewed in their next meeting. Mika stands up from her chair and walks to the door as Lucas makes his way in. "Welcome." She says, smiling just as he bends down to give her a peck on the forehead. "Isn't being a CEO of your own not too much work?" He teases her as he makes his way to a couch. She laughs. "Who made me the CEO and did all of the work for me? Let's not go there this afternoon." They both laugh. At the door, Daniella pauses for a very slight second before closing the door behind her, unable to watch the sweetness oozing from either
Lucas stands up from the couch like it's starting to swallow him whole.Mikayla has turned around to see why he swore so loudly. "What is it? You know the person?" She asks immediately, coming back to stand beside him.Lucas runs his hands through his hair, sighing over and over again. "Unfortunately, yes. I would say you know him too, only you haven't ever set your eyes on him.""Who is it?" She asks again, too disoriented to wonder who it is."My brother, Logan Santinello." He confesses, looking down to her to see her reaction."Wow." She says, glancing at Danielle who also looks just as shocked. "He's your brother? He hired me to spy on you, your own brother?" She stands up and wipes her eyes, before looking at Mikayla. "I'm sorry to have betrayed you like this, I really had no choice. I was been followed, bugged, even. I'm sorry. They threatened to kill me if I didn't do as they told me, I did it all to protect you.""Including selling out my details? Telling them my schedule and
In his car, Lucas taps his steering wheel over and over again, staring at the lit up face of his phone, open on a contact ID.The contact read Logan.Nothing more, no emojis or anything showing familiarity. It's just as the way you'd save a stranger you meet on the bus, no form of fondness or anything, even worse when the person behind the phone number is supposed to be a family member. He decides not to call and just keeps his phone. He looks up at the brightly lit sign bearing the name "Mi-nello" and whispers to the air. "I promise to protect you, Mikayla, no matter what it costs me." Before he zooms out, driving south of there. He passes a lot of buildings, finally coming to a stop in front of a tall apartment building owned by Logan. He sighs and turns off the car before stepping out, locking it.He sighs once again, cold creeping up his shoulders from what he's about to go meet in there. He knows Logan and himself have no shred of being called family so there's no use hoping for
