Chris sat at his desk, trying to focus on his work. But it was impossible. His phone had been ringing nonstop all morning, with debt collectors calling to demand payment.

Chris felt a growing sense of frustration and anxiety. He had already told them that he couldn't pay, but they just wouldn't leave him alone. And to make matters worse, his father, John, seemed completely uninterested in helping him out of this mess.

Chris had tried to call John multiple times, but he hadn't answered. Finally, after a dozen calls, John picked up.

"Hey, son," John said, sounding cheerful. "What's up?"

Chris was taken aback by his father's nonchalance. "What's up? Are you kidding me? The debt collectors are hounding me nonstop. I don't know how I'm going to pay all of these bills."

John chuckled. "Ah, don't worry about it, Chris. You'll figure it out. You're a smart kid."

Chris felt a surge of anger. "Figure it out? You're the one who got us into this mess. You're the one who took out all

Chris walked into his house, still feeling elated from the events of the evening. He had finally found a way to pay off his debt, thanks to Anne's kindness. But as he entered the living room, his father's presence immediately dampened his mood. John, Chris's father, was sitting on the couch, a scowl on his face. "Chris, we need to talk," he said, his voice gruff. Chris sighed inwardly, knowing that this conversation was not going to be pleasant. "What is it, Dad?" he asked, trying to keep his tone neutral. "It's about Tris," John said, his voice dripping with disdain. "I don't understand why you're still with her. She's not good enough for you, Chris. She's not from a good family, and she doesn't have any money." Chris felt his anger rising, but he tried to keep his cool. "That's not the point, Dad," he said. "Tris is a great person, and I love her. She's kind, smart, and beautiful. What more could I want?" John snorted. "You're blinded by love, Chris. You're not thinking

The day of Gwen's funeral arrived, and Tris was surrounded by a sea of unfamiliar faces. She recognized only a few people, mostly family members, but the rest were strangers to her. Chris, however, was always by her side, holding her close and offering words of comfort. As Tris scanned the crowd, her eyes landed on a figure standing at the back, watching her with an intense gaze. Tris's heart skipped a beat as she recognized her father, Ed. Chris noticed Tris's distraction and followed her gaze. "Do you want to go talk to him?" he asked, his voice low and concerned. Tris shook her head. "No, I don't think so." Chris nodded understandingly and pulled Tris closer. "I'm here for you, Tris. Don't worry." As the funeral service came to a close, Chris's parents approached them. His mother, kind and warm, hugged Tris tightly. "I'm so sorry, dear. If there's anything we can do for you, please don't hesitate to ask."
