Chapter 0006

Darlington Briggs;

I woke up in my bedroom to the fresh start of a brand new day—New Year's Day. I was so excited because I wanted to go downstairs to inform my parents that I had officially decided to get married this year and had made up my mind to settle down with Jenna Colton.

Jenna has been my love for five years. I met her through her elder brother, Bruce, who was my best friend in school.

We studied the same business course, and we live in Country Z, in the heart of the city. The Colton family is also a wealthy and well-known family here.

Jenna has a successful career as an actress. She is also a model and has been featured as the face of many brands.

I know that she has undergone a lot of surgeries to enhance her beauty, but I still love her nonetheless.

I love Jenna very much, and I didn't regret my decision to propose to her last weekend.

My father didn't react to my posts, and to make matters worse, I can't seem to find him online again after the news of my engagement to Jenna went viral.

My father purposely blocked me so he wouldn't see me posting about Jenna again.

My dad had warned me to stop posting about Jenna. But Jenna is the woman my heart desires.

How could I not post about the love of my life? That would mean I was cheating on her.

I love Jenna very much; she's like the air I breathe. I cannot live without her; this is what I tell her all the time, and I know Jenna was hesitant about accepting my engagement ring. But she knew that I had always wanted us to settle down.

I assured Jenna that she shouldn't worry about my father and that I would speak to him to agree and accept our marriage.

Jenna had told me that she wasn't ready for marriage yet and had a lot to accomplish in her modeling job unless I waited for her, but I assured her that I wouldn't stop her from fulfilling her dreams just because she's my wife.

I supported her before since we started dating, and I continue to support her now.

I got out of bed and prepared to go downstairs to inform my father about my new marriage decision.

My father detests Jenna and had warned me to stay away from her; more precisely, he had told me not to let her visit my office or workspace again. But I cannot do that. I love Jenna very much and mean every word of what I've said and in confessing my feelings to her.

I went into my bathroom. My room is vast and spacious enough to fit more than three luxury beds, with space to spare.

I finished bathing and saw that it was after 9 a.m. I woke up late because we had a cross-over night celebration at home on New Year’s Eve.

I was with my family, waiting to witness the fireworks and the crossing over to a brand new year.

I cannot wait to become a father soon. I know Jenna is scared of getting pregnant by me, but I want to marry her and assure her that I will always be there for her.

I entered my closet and took out a purple shirt and black trousers, which I wore. I combed my short black hair.

I like to keep my hair smooth, so I let it grow slightly. I finished combing my hair and then applied my masculine perfume to make me smell fresh, like New Year's Day.

I wore my black slippers and finally exited my bedroom on the top floor of my father's enormous mansion. We live in a standard duplex home with eight rooms, a living room downstairs, a kitchen, and guest rooms.

My father's mansion is massive because he was the one who had it built and instructed the constructors on how it should be designed.

Jenna has told me that she doesn't like visiting me here in my parents' home, as she knows my father disapproves of her. I plan to buy a new house to move out, just like Bruce did. But when I told my mother about my plan to buy my home,

My mother frowned and said it was too early for me to be living alone, unless I wanted to live a wayward life. She said that when my father married her, they lived in my grandpa's house in the countryside before my father made money and moved to the city to get his house.

According to my mother, I shouldn't move out until I have a child or two; then I can leave my father's house.

Well, this didn't sit well with Jenna, and I promised her that I would get a house for her once we were married.

I walked downstairs into the living room, where my father sat alone on the black couch, wearing a white garment as if he hadn’t taken his bath yet.

He was going through a file in his hands when I walked up to greet him.

"Good morning, Father," I said, and my dad paused what he was reading and looked at me.

He took off his glasses, which were perfectly perched on the bridge of his nose.

He placed them inside their case and looked back at me as a warm smile crept onto his face, and he replied, "Good morning, Darlington. Happy New Year."

"Happy New Year, Dad. Where is Mom?" I inquired, and my dad said, "She's upstairs and still in her room. You know we slept late last night?"

"I know, Dad," I replied, sitting across from my father.

"Yes, Darlington. That reminds me. I wanted to tell you about this last night, but I decided not to rush it," my dad said.

"What's it, Dad?" I inquired, looking at his face.

He sighed and said, "Your wife, Amara Nicholas, is coming to the city today to start living with us."

"What!" I exclaimed in utter disbelief.
