The door opens and her savior-slash-childhood friend-slash-ex-girlfriend, Joyce, comes in. She is smiling sweetly as she walks toward the man seated, like a king, on his chair.
“Why are you in a bad mood?” she asks, still smiling, before giving him a peck on the cheek.
Tristan just shakes his head, letting out a sigh to calm his nerves. "Nothing," he replies in a flat tone while rearranging the documents on his table. "Why are you here?"
“I’ve no one to go with for lunch. Could you join me?”
Tristan looks at Joyce and smiles. He nods in agreement, then he suddenly remembers Belle and what she did earlier.
This woman, who looks exactly like Vernice, is already giving him a headache during her first month at the company. He can’t help but grit his teeth.
He feels like he has to teach her a lesson, but he can’t think of a way to do it. Of course, this lesson should be one that will not make him petty in any way.
Before he can go on thinking of an evil punishment for his secretary, Belle comes in with a vacuum cleaner. She did not even bother knocking.
“Excuse me, I need to clean the mess on the carpet,” she tells Joyce, ignoring Tristan as if he isn’t there.
Joyce gracefully stands up to move to the single-seater. She is watching Belle’s every move attentively. The woman is not doing anything unusual but she’s starting to annoy Joyce.
“Hey Miss!” she calls. Belle then turns the vacuum off before facing the visitor. “Can you not do this right now? It’s too noisy!” Belle didn’t respond to her, instead, she bows down and leaves the office. “Who’s that?” She asks Tristan, as soon as the door closes. “I don’t like her.”
“She’s my new executive secretary and I don’t like her either,” Tristan utters.
“Why did you hire her then?”
“Jacob did…” he contended immediately.
“You should just fire her, she’s an eyesore!”
Tristan eyes Joyce while she’s fiddling with her nails. He couldn’t help but smile. ‘Is she jealous?’
Meanwhile, in the executive office, Belle is about ready to go out for lunch break when the white phone rings. “Join me for lunch,” the voice on the other line orders her. Belle’s eyes flick at Jacob, who is still busy going through some documents.
“Who was it?” he asks without taking his attention off the documents on the table.
“It’s the CEO… he’s asking me to come with him for lunch…” Belle states, confused.
Jacob slowly lifts his head and stares at Belle. ‘What’s going on? Didn’t they just fight? Are they going to kiss and make up now?’
“What?” Belle asks after seeing his creased forehead.
Jacob shook his head, he got lost in thought for a moment. He then turned his attention back to the documents. “Nothing, I was just a little surprised. Bring some back for me,” he added without looking at her, then he heard the door close.
Looking at the now-closed office door, he couldn't help but wonder what was going through his boss' mind. Hopefully, he won't do some power-tripping and give Belle a hard time.
Jacob's anxious for the woman because he knows how Tristan can be very petty at times. Belle, on the other hand, is now standing next to the elevator, waiting for the man.
She didn’t have to wait that long though, as seconds after, Tristan shows up with Joyce in his arms. "Let's go," he tells her.
They all step into the elevator but Tristan keeps the open button pressed. “Three is a crowd,” Belle hears him say, and obviously, that means he wants her out.
‘Does this idiot want me to take the stairs down from the 20th floor? In heels?!’ Belle can’t help but grit her teeth.
She let out a sigh to calm her nerves; otherwise, she might end up punching her boss. Instead of wasting any more energy feeling annoyed, she quickly steps out of the elevator and heads for the stairs.
‘I’ll deal with you one of these days,' she mutters, but her thought makes her chuckle. ‘Who am I kidding?’
“Go take a cab and meet us at Zark’s,” Tristan instructed his secretary. He glanced at Belle and saw her drenched in sweat. ‘Well deserved’, he thought to himself, but his conscience said otherwise.
He was proud of what he did but also pitied her. His ego whispers, ‘We’re just getting started Roberts!’ But deep inside, he is already thinking of a way to make it up to her.
The trio reached the restaurant in less than 10 minutes. When they walked in, a waiter led them to a table for four but Tristan was quick to stop him. “Table for two,” he informed him.
The waiter glances at Belle, she just smiles faintly at him. He is quick to pick up what is going on, so he changes direction and leads them to a two-seater table instead.
After pulling the chair for Joyce, Tristan sits immediately. Belle is just there standing next to Tristan, in heels, glaring at her boss from time to time.
“Get us the menu,” he ordered. Belle knew he had said that to her, so she followed without questioning him.
She perfectly knows why he is doing this. It is because of what happened in his office earlier. ‘I never imagined this asshole to be this childish,’ Belle can’t help but curse at him quietly.
She places her boss’ orders for him. Her stomach starts grumbling as soon as the food is served, but there’s nothing she can do. She can only watch them eat while talking sweetly.
Belle looked out the window, avoiding the sight of food, but that didn’t help. She can also feel her legs starting to go numb.
When Tristan and Joyce are done, he even asks Belle to clean the table for them while waiting for their coffee. Belle follows without hesitance. After doing so, she goes to the restroom to wash her hands.
She stops by the mirror right outside the door of the restroom and starts cursing at her boss while fixing herself. “That idiot!” she mutters.
“Why are you looking so pissed gorgeous?” a voice came from behind her. She looks at the man through the mirror and smiles at him.
“My boss is throwing a tantrum!” she chuckles.
The man snorts at her words. ‘How can someone describe her boss like that? Isn’t she afraid of getting fired?’
“Eric,” introduced himself before offering a hand.
Belle turns to face him, he is as good-looking as his boss, but he seems friendlier. “Belle,” she replies, returning the handshake. "I'll go ahead," she says. But when she turned around, the guy walked alongside her.
She stops by Tristan and Joyce’s table and Eric does the same. “Tristan?” he calls. Belle suddenly freezes, ‘They know each other? No way!’
“Oh hey! When did you come back?” Tristan asked before standing up and giving Eric a bro hug.
“It’s been a week, but I’m swamped with work. If you’re not busy, we can go for a drink after the office!”
Tristan agrees with him, but before Eric leaves, he suddenly thinks of something. He quickly walks closer to Belle, placing an arm over her shoulders, “So he’s-- “
Belle knows this will happen. She had already thought of ideas on how to stop him if he says something about what she said earlier, as soon as he greeted Tristan. So before Eric can say more, Belle pulls him for a kiss.
Everyone is shocked. Even the waiter passing by stops to watch the show. Eric’s eyes are wide open as Belle kisses him.
When she lets go, he lets out a hearty laugh, catching the attention of the other customers. Belle’s face is flushed, she is so embarrassed.
“I like your style,” Eric tells her after laughing out loud, probably referring to her way of stopping him from saying anything. Then he turned to Tristan, “I might visit your office often in the next few days."
Tristan’s reaction turns sour. He is disgusted by Belle’s behavior, but at the same time, he is annoyed, but he doesn’t know why.
When Eric leaves, he pulls Joyce up and heads for the exit, leaving the restaurant without finishing their coffee. He didn’t even tell Belle they were leaving.
They stop by the Maybach, but before Tristan can open the door, Joyce bids him farewell. According to her, some friends invited her to watch a movie.
When Joyce disappears from his sight, he turns to his side to face Belle, glaring at her. “Get in,” he instructs her in an irritated tone.
Belle follows immediately. She opens the passenger door and gets in quietly. She can only steal glances while Tristan keeps letting out sighs while driving.
When they reach the office, Tristan goes straight for the elevator after parking the car. He goes ahead without saying anything to Belle. As she is hungry, she decided to stop by the café to buy lunch for her and Jacob.
“What happened?” Assistant Brown asks as soon as Belle steps out of the elevator, he is standing right outside the door of the executive office.
She creases her forehead at him. “What do you mean?” then she starts walking toward their office. After putting down Jacob’s food on his table, she goes to hers and starts unpacking her lunch.
“The CEO slammed his door when he entered his office. He was outraged!” Jacob whispered while cleaning his table to have his lunch as well.
Belle thinks about it but can’t come up with any possible reason for their boss’ behavior. “I don’t know, we didn’t even talk when we drove back,” she simply tells him.
Jacob nodded, still confused as to what was going on. ‘What’s happening between those two?’
After eating lunch, Jacob cleans his area right away. He then picks up a folder from his table, gets out of their office, and goes straight for the CEO. He enters Tristan’s office as soon as he hears him respond to his knocks. “What happened to you? You almost broke the door!” Jacob tries to be funny but Tristan just glares at him. His boss let out a sigh before leaning on his chair. “Belle didn’t tell you anything?” he asked. Jacob shook his head, clueless. “He kissed Eric! Right in front of me and everyone else at the restaurant!” he narrates through gritted teeth. Jacob’s forehead creases, “What’s the matter then?” he asks Tristan, unsure what is making him angry. ‘So what if Belle kissed a man in front of him? It doesn’t have anything to do with him anyway.’ “I don’t know…” Tristan mumbles. He stands up to face the window and slips his hands into his pockets. “To be honest, I don’t know why I’m mad…” he confesses. "Her constant displays of guts annoy me, I don't understand why…
"Are the foods ready?" Tristan asked his assistant on their way to the conference room.Jacob glanced towards their office to see if Belle was already there. "Not yet, maybe there's a long line at the café," trying to make an excuse for the secretary."She's so slow!" the CEO clicks his tongue, irritated.Jacob let out a sigh before scratching the back of his head. "You know how most people eat their breakfast here. Maybe that's why she's taking a while."Tristan didn't respond to him. He just quickened his pace to reach the conference room immediately. As soon as they get there, Jacob opens the door for him and he immediately sits down after greeting the visitors. He opens the folder in front of him to get them started. They are already in the middle of a discussion when someone knocks. Jacob stands up to open the door, only to see Belle struggling with the food packs. He quickly put down the folder in his hand to help the secretary. Jacob takes some of the food packs from her. Both
Vernice keeps phasing back and forth in their living room. She is actually worried about their current situation.Earlier, she checked their joint bank account and saw that there were only a few dollars left. She can't help but think about how they will survive. She and Hans rented an apartment in Lys where they can stay in the meantime. It was their temporary solution, while they were waiting for the company to take off. However, she can't help but think about when they will be able to buy their own house. When can they afford it? Renting will cost them a lot and it's a waste of money.Hans just opened his company and it's only been a month. Although he managed to convince two people to invest, they did not have enough clients yet for their finance company to get going. No client means no income, and of course, they cannot use their capital on unnecessary spending. They have to save it for future business use.Vernice, on the other hand, is a huge spender. She is used to having a lav
Later that day, Jacob was called to the CEO's office again. This time, Tristan gave him a black card and was instructed to give it to Belle.Tristan's exact words were, "Give this to Belle, she can use it to purchase everything she needs for her job. Clothes, shoes, bags, or whatever it is she needs to function properly at work."Although he was confused, he could only follow his boss' instructions. 'Why was I not given a black card? I've been working for him for years!'He wanted to feel jealous of Belle, but thinking about it, he knows fairly well why he is doing this. He couldn’t help but smile at his friends. In the office, Belle's been staring at the card on her table for several minutes now. She still can't believe what she's seeing before her eyes.'Is this really a black card? And can I use it?' Her mind is in deep thought but she can't stop herself from smiling."I take back what I said before. He isn't stingy, sorry," she tells Jacob, chuckling. Jacob wants to respond to her
Belle smiled immediately at the man in front of her. “Hi!” she exclaimed.“I’ll walk you back,” Eric smiled. “Who are you with?” he asked, walking alongside Belle.“I’m with my friend!” Belle introduced Nathalie to him as soon as they reached their spot and her friend couldn’t take her eyes off of the gorgeous lad.Eric sat with them. They were talking about random things when a woman in a skimpy outfit, looking wasted, approached Eric and snaked her arm around his neck.“Hi babe, who are these bitches?” she asked, her words slurred.Belle’s brow immediately flicked after hearing what she said. She suppressed the urge to talk back though she wanted to do more than that.Eric saw her reaction. Scratching the back of his head, he smiled apologetically at Belle before removing the woman’s arm from his neck.“Behave, Lea, they are my friends,” lightly pushing the vulgar woman away from him.The woman called Lea snickers, “I’ve been waiting for you for hours. It was a different woman earli
Tristan entered the venue right after he stepped out of the car. He went in alone as Jacob still needed to pick up Belle and Agnes. He headed to the lounge and found his grandfather, sitting there with a wineglass in his hand. “You’re late,” the old man told him, Tristan chuckled.“No one’s even here yet,” he retorted.“The Williams called me yesterday, they told me they’re visiting next week,” he informed his grandson of the upcoming problem.Tristan’s forehead creased. He called a waiter to ask for a drink, “What do they want?”Frederick shrugged, “No idea, they just said they were visiting,” he chuckled. Implying he knows there is something else behind the visit.Tristan was about to say something when another waiter called for them. They were informed that the visitors were already arriving. The grandfather and grandson duo had no choice but to walk out of the lounge and welcome their guests. They were standing side by side facing the entrance, both looking like royalty. The first
Some of the visitors had already left when Tristan came back. A few more minutes later, everyone else started bidding him and his grandfather farewell too.The old De Clarion kept glancing at him inquisitively. “I’ll tell you about it later,” he told him, but Frederick just snorted in response.Seeing him with Agnes was really an eyesore. When Agnes left, Tristan disappeared as well. That is why the old man can’t help but imagine things. When he saw his grandson looking grumpy when he came back, he dismissed his undesirable thoughts. ‘It’s probably not what I was thinking.’ Once everyone had left, Tristan asked Frederick to go with him to the VIP suite. Along the way, he told his grandfather what had happened.Frederic was also furious at Agnes. “How can she do that when she’s not even a welcome guest?!” he spat.“How is she?” he asked Jacob as soon as they stepped inside the suite. Looking at the empty couch, he creased his forehead at his assistant.Jacob gestured towards the bedro
Meanwhile, at the Williams Villa, Esme keeps thinking about what she saw earlier. At the banquet, when she was about to go to the restroom, he even saw Tristan helping Belle out.De Clarion Empire’s CEO led her to the elevator and even carried her in. She waited to see where the elevator would stop, but it kept going until it reached the topmost floor, the VIP suite.‘What is her relationship with Tristan? Why was she so close to him? It can’t be, this can’t be happening!’The face of the woman she saw earlier is way too familiar for her to deny that she knows her. It is her indeed! It’s none other than Yssabelle Williams, Lawrence and Rose’s daughter.Years ago, after the search and rescue team reported that they failed to find her and announced that Yssabelle was dead, Esme wanted to make doubly sure. He contacted three investigators to look for her in nearby hospitals, not just in Bree, but in Dale as well. Two days later, she received a report that a child around the age of 6 to 8
On their bed and while lying on Tristan’s arm, Belle recalled the invitation she got earlier. She forgot to mention it to the man over dinner and even after.“Love, I got a cruise invitation,” she started. “I’m sure you have one too. Are you going?”Although sleepy, Tristan forced himself to respond. “I am, I know the organizer. He’s a good friend of mine. You should go too.”“Can we go together?”“I have a meeting that day and I don’t know what time it will end. The cruise will leave at eight but you have to be there by six for the program. You can go first. I’ll ask Marco to drive you there.”“Alright then. You look very tired love, go ahead and sleep.”Belle planted a kiss on the man’s forehead before squeezing closer to him. Minutes later, they were both taken to dreamland.A few more days later and the day of the cruise came. Just like what they talked about, Belle went ahead. He’ll meet Tristan there.Surprisingly, when she boarded the yacht docked at the Bree Port, no one was t
When Tristan and Jacob arrived at the hospital, Belle’s attending physician told them that the woman had been moved to a hospital in Dale. This was the request of the patient, according to him.Upon hearing that, Tristan instructed Jacob to call the company’s pilot and prepare the private jet. They have to reach Dale as soon as possible.Fortunately, they didn’t take that long to reach the hospital where Belle’s confined. Jacob did the honor of approaching the nurse’s station to ask where the woman’s room was. When Tristan found out that Belle was staying in a ward, he ordered Jacob to move her to a private room. And there he spent all his time taking care of her.“What happened to her?” Lydia asked.Tristan was a bit startled as he didn’t hear anyone opening the door. He stopped wiping Belle’s arm and placed the towel back in the basin. He sat on the chair next to Belle’s bed, and let out a sigh, before facing Belle’s adopted parents. “I’m really sorry about this,” he started. The yo
Tristan dropped Belle off at her company. She was about to enter after greeting the guard when someone called her. She immediately turned around and, to her horror, it was Esme and she was holding a gun.“Finally, we’ve met! I’ve been trying to see you for days!” Esme sneered.“Put the gun down Madam!” the guard shouted, walking over in front of Belle to protect her. However, instead of following the guard’s order, she shoots him. The guard immediately dropped right in front of Belle and it freaked her out.“What are you doing?” she screamed, but Esme just smiled at her. The crazy woman gestured for her to go in and Belle quickly followed. When they reached her office, Esme locked the door and pushed Belle to her table. “I still can’t believe that you’re alive…” she whispered.Belle wanted to say something but no voice would come out of her. She’s been inhaling and exhaling since they got in, but it won’t calm her nerves.Esme made her sit on her swivel chair, while she was pacing bac
It was already bright and shiny when the police finished their investigation. Belle feels like her head is not attached to her neck. Everyone else looked like they were floating."According to the investigation, the guard said that a woman in her late 40s entered the village saying she was a visitor to Luisa Villa," the investigator stated.“Why did he let her in? He didn’t even ask for identification?” Frederick asked irritatedly.“Actually Mr. De Clarion, he did, but what’s weird is that he received a call from someone claiming that the woman should be allowed in. The person who called introduced himself as the butler of the family, John.”Frederick looked at John and so was the rest of the people in the living room. The man raised both hands and spoke, “I have nothing to do with that call.”The police nodded at him, “We believe that Sir, we checked your background and we found out that you’ve been serving the De Clarions for almost four decades already. In addition, you do not have
The past days and weeks have been peaceful for everyone. Joyce was locked up and there was no news about Esme either.Seeing that it’s safe to go back to work, Belle and Tristan decide to resume their posts, Him as CEO of De Clarion Empire and her as CEO of Sweet Sue.All is well for them or that was what they thought.Little did they know, someone was watching all their moves. Someone was hoping to take revenge on them, all of them.A week after Belle came back to the company, she received a package with a dead rat inside. It also came with a note that says ‘You’re next.’Instead of taking it seriously, she decided to just have it thrown away. She also ordered the guard not to receive any packages, unless he knew who they came from. After one more week and three more packages with warning notes, it stopped. To not cause any worry, Belle decided not to tell Tristan about it.However, on her way home one night, as soon as she turned left to the next street, she saw one of the homes in
Everyone was surprised to see Lawrence Williams. No one expected him to show up at the De Clarion Villa.“Dad!” Belle exclaimed before rushing to her father. “How are you?”Ignoring his daughter, Lawrence turned to Frederick first. “I apologize for coming without notice. I just wanted to check on my daughter,” he explained.“That’s not a problem,” the old De Clarion responded. “Please sit down.”As soon as they had settled down, Lawrence turned to his daughter. “What were you saying earlier? What did Esme do last night?”Belle, Tristan, and Jacob repeated the story for Lawrence to hear. After learning everything, the man started bawling and no one stopped him.Everyone in the living room let him pour out his emotions. They understood what he was going through, they understood his pain. When Lawrence calmed down, he apologized again for the scene he had just caused. Then again, he was forgiven right away.“I don’t understand why she keeps doing things she’s not supposed to do. I try my
As the news was about to start, Lawrence grabbed a plate and placed some food there. He leaned back and started eating, while the maid placed his coffee on the end table.A female newscaster was then shown on the screen and behind her was a villa with a beautiful landscape. Lawrence can’t help but be impressed.‘News Flash! Just this morning, a cleaner called the police station to report a murder case. According to the informant, she arrived at this villa as part of her daily schedule. She has the key and has access to the main door and all the other rooms. As she was used to no one being home early in the morning, she proceeded to open the master’s bedroom and was horrified by what she saw.On the bed, a man was lying down, looking wasted, and next to her was a woman bathing in her blood. According to the police, the woman sustained 18 stab wounds on her neck, chest, and stomach. The man with her was taken to police custody for further investigation. The police cannot give any inform
Belle nervously opened the door to the villa. She was quietly praying that when she got home, Tristan would be there waiting for her. When she got in, it was only Frederick and John talking in the living room. Still hopeful, she quickened her pace and sat next to the old man.“Is Tristan home? What about Jacob?”The old De Clarion exchanged looks with the butler. “They’re not here, what happened?” John asked, worried and confused.Belle started narrating what happened. Fiddling with her fingers, she couldn’t stop worrying although John had already told her that he was coming with her to look for them.Meanwhile, outside the villa gifted to Vernice, Esme’s car was parked in a dark spot. Waiting for who knows who, she took out her phone and started dialing.“Where are you?”“We’re on our way. We got the girl.”A smile broke on Esme’s face, she was already feeling triumphant.Minutes later, a car parked next to Esme’s car. “Go right in. Tristan’s already there. CCTVs are everywhere in th
Days passed and Thursday arrived. Belle’s going to meet Vernice at Eden. She was nervous initially, but after she told Tristan about it the last time they met, he assured her that he'd be there too and that dissipated her worries. When the clock strikes 6 in the evening, Belle starts preparing. Since it was just a casual meet-up, she decided to dress casually as well. After taking a shower, she dried her hair and applied a thin layer of face powder on her face. Then she grabbed a red cardigan, black jeans, and a red slip-on. She just tied her hair in a high ponytail and set off.Belle arrived past 7 and the bar was already packed. As soon as she stepped in, she looked up to check the VIP room that was assigned to Tristan. She secretly smiled and sighed in relief when she saw that the lights were on.After confirming Tristan’s presence, she proceeds to walk in, looking around. She then saw Vernice waving at her, so she approached her table and sat in front of her.“I thought you were n
