Chapter 12 Framed

(Sybil’s POV)

“Oh, dear, what happened?” Grandma went over to where Willa was sitting and closely inspected her face.

“Sybil hurt me,” she answered, sniffling. “I was just trying to have a civilized conversation with her, when she went crazy. It’s a good thing I got away from her in time, or she could have killed me!”

John gave me a stony expression and sat down beside her, putting his arm around her. “I’m sure she didn’t mean anything by it. She was just upset about all the rumors going around about you and me getting married. That’s enough to get anyone worked up.”

“Rumors?” Willa gave him a confused expression.

John rubbed her back soothingly. “I’m sure she feels sorry for what she did, and that she wants to apologize.” He looked at me. “Right, Sybil?”

I didn’t want to apologize for something I had nothing to do with. The only thing that I was sorry for was not actually scratching her myself. I could feel everyone’s eyes on me, though. “I’m so sorry, Willa.”

She just glanced at me,
