Henry had just landed after completing his business trip. As soon as he got into the car, he immediately noticed numerous missed calls from his mother.

“Yes, Mom?” he answered the phone.

A loud scream from Jessica on the other end made Henry flinch. She demanded, “Where are you? Get back to Reeds City immediately!”

“I’m at Reeds Airport. What’s going on?” he asked in a weary tone, his face showing clear frustration. His mother was always loud and abrasive, and it annoyed him to no end.

Jessica didn’t lower her voice as she continued, “That wretched Lysia just published an article accusing your company of selling impure diamonds, scamming customers, and failing to resolve recent lawsuits. And you’re still sitting there calmly?”

“What?!” Henry shot upright. Clutching his phone tightly, he asked again, “Are you sure it was her?”

“The article is on RRC Newsroom. The author is Lysia Kingsley. Who else could it be? I told you to break her and Kyle apart, but you kept hesitating.

“Lysia! Lysia!”Lysia felt as if she had forgotten how to breathe as she stared at her bloodstained hands. Just moments ago, she had been able to hold onto Camilla, but instead, she had pushed her away and fled. In her ears, the roaring of the storm mixed with Camilla’s faint cries for help. After the ambulance left, she clung to Kyle, her arms wrapped tightly around his waist as she gasped for air. Her heart pounded violently, as if it were about to burst. She clutched the hem of his white shirt, crumpling the fabric, uncaring that it was now stained with bright red blood. No matter how hard she tried, she couldn’t calm herself. It wasn’t until Kyle gently stroked her back that she finally heard his voice.“Lysia Kingsley, you need to calm down. Be strong and rational, just like you always are. I’m right here.”“Kyle… Did I just kill someone? If something happens to Cami’s baby, doesn’t that mean I… killed it?” Lysia’s voice trembled, her entire body shaking with every word.Kyle gri

Camilla turned pale, her lips quivering, but no words came out. She clenched the bedsheet tightly, tears still streaming down her face. Seeing this, Lysia narrowed her eyes, waiting for her to reveal the truth.Kyle didn’t give her a chance to evade. Leaning forward, his voice was cold and sharp. “I’ll ask one more time—who is Arthur?”“I don’t know what the hell you’re talking about, Mr. Reinhart,” Camilla replied, trembling as she avoided Kyle’s piercing gaze. Then, grabbing a pillow, she flung herself forward, screaming like a madwoman. “Get out of here! Do you think you can live peacefully after I lost my baby? You’re the ones who indirectly killed my child—filthy scum!”Even as the IV line ripped from her hand, causing blood to seep from the back of it, Camilla felt no pain. The agony she bore inside was far worse. She had truly cherished the baby in her womb—because she had loved the baby’s father.Lysia stepped out from behind Kyle’s broad frame, a faintly mocking smile playing

As soon as Lysia stepped out of the newsroom, a swarm of reporters seemingly appeared out of nowhere, surrounding her in an instant. Dozens of microphones were thrust toward her, while camera flashes fired relentlessly from every direction."Journalist Kingsley, do you have a personal grudge against HyperVolt? Did you deliberately write that article to bring down their product?""Before publication, every article requires approval from the interviewee. Did you publish the article without the HyperVolt CEO’s consent, leading to today’s tragedy?""Is his death the result of your professional negligence, Ms. Kingsley?" The last reporter managed to break past the security team and stood directly in front of Lysia, pressing for an answer.Lysia had always been sensitive about her work, and it was difficult for her to endure such unfounded and irrational attacks on her professional integrity. She initially wanted to respond right away, but at the last second, she restrained herself—for the

"That's impossible. You must be joking, Mr. Grant. How could it be me when I’ve never even met him in person?" Lysia’s lips trembled as she spoke, her voice laced with utter disbelief.Kyle, however, remained as composed as ever. He furrowed his brows slightly and said, "May I see those emails?"Philip had already prepared a laptop, logged into Richard Lane's email account. He navigated to the ‘Starred’ folder, where all the threatening emails Richard had received were saved separately."Take a look. We've verified that the IP addresses all trace back to the RRC Newsroom, and the exact email address belongs to Ms. Kingsley." Philip glanced at them before correcting himself, "Ah no, Mrs. Reinhart."Lysia read through the earliest threatening email, dated nearly a month ago. As she scanned the words, she covered her mouth in shock, unable to comprehend when she had supposedly written them. The content revolved around Richard Lane attempting to negotiate with her to take down an article,

"I don’t understand what you're talking about. I just forgot something at the office and came back to look for it, that’s all." Raven trembled as she hurriedly shut the laptop behind her, stammering in an attempt to dodge the question. Just as she was about to slip away, the California Kingsnake suddenly raised its body and flicked its tongue, letting out a low gruhh sound that nearly made her heart jump out of her chest. "Roonie, come here." Catherine clapped her hands twice and called out. Immediately, the snake slithered over to Catherine and swiftly coiled itself around her arm. Lysia shuddered slightly at Catherine’s pet. She understood her best friend’s unusual interests—keeping snakes and her fondness for reptiles. But those creatures were Lysia’s nemesis. However, today, she needed to put on a little show, and the California Kingsnake would play a crucial role. "Earlier today, Cathy accidentally spilled a type of powder that this little guy loves onto my laptop keyboa

“Jacob, Jessica, Henry… I’m old now. I haven’t been involved in the company’s affairs for over a decade, so how could I possibly intervene now? The next morning, Lysia slowly opened her eyes as sunlight streamed into the room. She stretched to loosen her joints, but the moment she felt a warm, solid body right next to her, she panicked and let out a scream."Ah!" Without hesitation, she flung the blanket off and kicked the man beside her straight onto the floor.Kyle tumbled to the ground before he was even fully awake, groggily muttering, "What's going on, Lys?"Seeing the pained expression on his face, Lysia felt a twinge of guilt and almost reached out to help him up. But she quickly held onto the last bit of stubborn pride she had left, pursing her lips in protest. "Who gave you permission to cross the line?"Because the hotel room's sofa was far too small for Kyle to sleep on, she had come up with the idea of dividing the bed into separate spaces. She had warned him very clearly about this before falling asleep. Yet, when she opened her eyes, somehow, their bodies were completely tangled together. This realization both s

At Austin Miller’s house. Austin sat on the sofa, watching as the doctor and nurse checked Lysia’s vitals once again. About two minutes later, they completed the health examination and began packing up their equipment. Before Austin could say anything, the doctor removed his mask and calmly informed him, “Mr. Miller, you can rest assured—your wife is fine. She only has a common cold, which caused some physical weakness and led to her fainting. However, she must stay in a relaxed state, as that would be best for the baby. In these early stages, you and your family should take good care of her.” This doctor had been called in for Lysia’s emergency case and had witnessed Austin’s deep concern for her from start to finish. Naturally, he had misunderstood the relationship between the two. The more Austin listened, the more confused he became. His brows furrowed as he asked, “Excuse me? What baby are you talking about?” “The baby in her womb. Your child? Don’t tell me you didn’t kn

That night, instead of returning to Reinhart Grand Apartment, Lysia went back to the Kingsley estate. As soon as she entered her familiar bedroom, she collapsed onto the bed, burying her face in the pillow. Before long, soft sobs echoed through the room.Kyle’s sharp, scolding voice kept replaying in her mind, over and over again. For someone who had always been cherished like Lysia, this was a severe emotional blow, especially since it came from the man she loved deeply. The next morning, Lysia woke up and got ready for work as usual. When she turned on her phone, there were no missed calls. No messages. She truly wanted to stand in front of Kyle and ask him, “Just what exactly do you mean by this attitude?”When she went downstairs, the butler looked surprised to see her in the mansion. After all, she had returned in the middle of the night when everyone was already fast asleep. Only the security guards knew she had come back.“Lys, I didn’t know you were home, so I didn’t prepare b

“Thank you, Captain Grey. It was truly fortunate that you arrived in time,” Lysia shook hands with James Grey and smiled in gratitude.James returned her smile, a stark contrast to the serious demeanor he had while on duty. “You did well by calling the police in advance, Mrs. Reinhart. I live in the apartment across the hall, so jumping in to handle an emergency like this is just second nature to a cop.”“You live here?” Lysia asked in surprise before turning to glance at Helen, who stood behind her.Noticing Helen grimacing in pain, Lysia stepped closer and lowered her voice, “Are you okay?”Helen tried to suppress her discomfort, her face pale as she forced out, “I… I’m fine…”Lysia, however, was unconvinced. She firmly pulled back the hem of Helen’s shirt, revealing a large bruise along her side. Her expression darkened for a brief moment before she grabbed Helen’s arm and led her toward her car. “I’m taking you to the hospital for a checkup.”“Mrs. Reinhart, wait a moment,” James

"Mr. Reinhart, R-Tech's stock is continuously declining. It seems that news of our technological defeat has spread throughout the city," Sebastian reported from his seat to Kyle’s right, his eyes fixed on the candlestick chart displayed on his computer screen. In just a few short hours, R-Tech had lost 500,000 shares."This is a sign of a sell-off," Kyle observed coldly."A sell-off?" Sebastian and several other R-Tech employees exchanged surprised glances.Kyle held the latest stock market report for R-Tech, tracking data from the past two months—the exact timeframe when NexusAI had begun making moves in Reeds City. A massive influx of capital had surged into R-Tech, rapidly driving up its stock price, even before Kyle had approved funding for the company's new project. As an astute executive, Kyle had noticed the unusual activity early on.However, he lacked the concrete evidence to draw conclusions. Reeds City was home to many hidden affluent investors. Initially, he had assumed th

“Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen. On behalf of Mr. Ryan Kingsley, I would like to announce the start of today’s meeting. We have placed the two plans of R-Tech and NexusAI on the table at your seats. Before listening to the presentations of each party, please read them first to make your own assessment, contributing to the objective vote at the end of the meeting.” David Thompson, the head of transportation and logistics of Kingsley Group’s headquarters, stood at the podium. He then added, looking down at the seats filled with shareholders and representatives from the two companies, “Okay, now which company wants to present first?” In an instant, the whispers suddenly disappeared. The entire room seemed to be holding its breath, waiting for one of the two parties to volunteer to come forward first. Austin leisurely tapped his fingers on the armrest of the chair and then smirked, “Because it is a small business that has just entered the Reeds City market, then Reinhart Corpor

One week later.Today marked the presentation of technology solutions by R-Tech, a subsidiary of Reinhart Corporation, and NexusAI. As a shareholder of Kingsley Corporation, Lysia attended the event and participated in the voting process. However, in just a few short months since NexusAI's announcement, R-Tech's team had successfully developed a similar system with additional enhancements.Kingsley Corporation’s logistics system had been facing severe issues. Fortunately, with Reinhart Corporation's assistance, the situation had temporarily stabilized, allowing operations to continue smoothly until a new technological system could be implemented.Reinhart Corporation was given a one-week deadline. Most Kingsley shareholders were astonished by Reinhart Corporation’s impressive capabilities. She was nearly out of air from Kyle’s deep, consuming kiss. Her back felt cold against the surface of his car, and the only way she could stay steady was by wrapping her arms tightly around his neck. They had just bid farewell to their parents and were still in the parking area of the Kingsley estate. Kyle slowly pulled away from her lips, tilting her delicate chin up as he murmured in his husky, seductive voice, “Didn't you say you missed me? So I had to come to you right away. Still clinging onto him, Lysia pouted, “You drank too much again. I told you not to have more than three glasses, but you never listened to me!” Kyle's deep chuckle brushed against her ears like an intoxicating melody, blending with the soft evening breeze. They stood there like a picture-perfect couple, bathed in the dim glow of the parking lot lights, m

At the restaurant across from RRC Newsroom. “Oh my God, I can’t believe there’s a tiny little life inside this perfectly flat stomach of yours. You’re not messing with me, are you? It’s not even April Fool’s Day yet.” Lysia squinted at Catherine with suspicion. She reached out, placed her hand on Catherine’s belly, then pressed her head against it, as if trying to hear the baby inside. Catherine laughed, gently pushing Lysia’s head away before pulling a medical report from her purse and placing it on the table. “It’s only been three weeks. How could you possibly hear the baby move? If you don’t believe me, see for yourself.” After reading the report, Lysia froze for a moment before suddenly jumping up and wrapping Catherine in a tight hug, her voice filled with excitement. “Sweetheart! That means I get to be a mom too, right? We promised we’d be godmothers to each other’s children!” “Lysia, you’re squeezing me too tight—I can’t breathe,” Catherine gasped, lightly patting Lysi
