Katherine watched him anxiously as he went through her credentials, adjusting the spectacles perched on his nose bridge at intervals.
Her palms stayed glued on her thighs as she waited for his statement.
Finally, he raised his head to look at her, putting the papers aside.
“Well, miss Tetrazzini, I’ve gone through your informations right here,” he pointed to the folder and Katherine nodded. “You are undoubtedly fit for the job-
Katherine sensed a but in that statement and when he mentioned it, she gulped nervously.
“But,” he continued, adjusting his glasses again. “Looking at your marital status, it states that you are divorced and approximately three months pregnant currently, is that right?” he inquired and Katherine nodded.
“Yes sir.”
“Well, I’m sorry miss Tetrazzini but your state is against this company’s policy. We do not hire pregnant women, especially for the position available, which you applied for.” He dropped the bombshell.
Katherine’s mouth open and closed as she couldn’t think of any word to let out.
She finally spoke after a few seconds, “I promise you sir, I can do this job. I’ve worked in this position before and I carried out my duties effectively. I am experienced and I’m sure I can carry out whatever duties comes with the work effortlessly, even in my state. Please, I really need this job. Just give me a chance,” She pleaded.
“I’m sorry, miss but if I do, I will be going against the company’s policy,” he explained.
“Please” Katherine pleaded again, hoping to change his mind but he sighed, leaning over the table to her.
“There is honestly nothing I can do for you right now. Maybe when the baby is out of the way, we can consider giving you the job, that's if the position is still vacant,” he said, giving her a look.
Katherine’s face went blank at his words. “What are you insinuating?” She asked and he shrugged.
“I’m sure you know what I’m talking about, that’s if you truly want this job as you claim,” he said.
“Are you suggesting that I get rid of my pregnancy to be considered the job?” She inquired.
“Not exactly the way you put it but-
“You’re despicable!” Katherine spat at him, interrupting his words. “How can you suggest such a thing?” She rasped.
“Miss Tetra-
“To hell with you and your offer!” Katherine stood up, grabbed her folder from his table and walked out, banging the door behind her.
..
Anderson ended the Meeting and instantaneously, there was a standing ovation, the projector going off.
Bowing a little in appreciation, he exchanged handshakes with a few of the executives present and walked out with Mr Deluxe.
“That was brilliant, Mr Riecke. Deluxe will definitely love to work with your company!” He said.
“Thank you,” Anderson said.
“I assure you won’t regret this, Mr Deluxe.”
“I am more than convinced now," he smiled, walking Anderson outside, to his car.
“I will see you tomorrow for the finalizing,” he said, stretching his palm.
“Of course” Anderson shook his palm, returning his smile.
“Do have a safe trip” Mr Deluxe wished them and returned to his company.
Shania opened the car door and Anderson made to climb in when he heard stampede movement, glancing towards the direction he saw her walking outside the company.
The lady from earlier.
Curiously, he moved his head to get a better view of her face which was unmistakably familiar.
It was her.
“Katherine,” he called before he even realised it and watched her pause instantly.
The passiveness
The aura!
Katherine could only think of one person to call her in that manner and she hoped silently to be wrong as she turned to see the owner of the voice that had called her name.
Sinking in disappointment, her heart gave a horrid skip as she came face to face with Anderson Riecke Horatio; her ex husband.
Unmoving, she stared at him as he ran his gaze around her body, his eyes holding surprise and something else that she couldn’t fathom.
It has been four months already and yet it felt like yesterday.
His hateful words repeated themselves in her ears and she could still feel the fierce force he gathered as he pushed her out of his house, the horrifying anger in his eyes as he threatened her.
She found herself getting weaker as his gaze remained on her, it held too much authority; she couldn’t take it, so she turned, ready to leave.
“You’ve changed.” He observed, stopping her on her track.
He noticed she has gotten thicker and her curves; he didn’t want to talk about the kind of thought they were giving him already.
Katherine turned slowly, until she faced him. “It’s been four months. You don’t expect to me look as I had.” She said stoically.
Yeah?
But he also didn’t expect her to have changed so much.
He moved away from the door, taking two steps towards her.
He smirked, “I see you’re job-seeking,” he said, his gaze darting from her face, to the folder in her hold.
Katherine squeezed it, trying fruitlessly to shield it away from his burrowing gaze.
“I am not job hunting,” she denied, not giving him the chance to mock or intimidate her. “I am here on an official purpose.” she told him.
“Oh really?” He asked, amused.
“Why? You think I won’t survive with your absence in my life,” she said and the smirk wiped off his face.
“Looks like I was wrong” he said, in a bid to annoy her and she scoffed.
“You’re despicable! My survival doesn’t depend on you, Anderson Riecke. As you can see, I am doing perfectly fine on my own.”
“I didn’t mean-“ he paused, shuffling in the rest of his words. “Of course,” he said, smirking.
“And looking at you right now,” his eyes roamed her body so disrespectfully, Katherine felt intimidated by the action. She could feel herself melting just by his stare. “I’m sure you’ve been well,” he added.
“Why do you sound disappointed?” She asked, her own feelings getting in the way. He stared at her face, he could see the tears gathering in her eyes. It stabbed him but again she had stabbed him before with her unfaithfulness, in so many places.
Just again, Anderson reminded himself he shouldn’t fall for her faux innocence.
“Considering you had to look elsewhere despite how happy I thought we were-“ he paused and laughed at that bitter memory. “I expected you to be driving more than a..van right now?” He teased and she sniffed, swallowing the hurtful words. “Your infidelity should have at least landed you somewhere more.. worthy,” he shrugged.
Katherine blinked, fighting the tears that threatened vehemently to fall.
“Infidelity?” She repeated, her teeth gritted. “Right now, I doubt I care about what you think of me anymore!” She added.
“I can’t say how it feels like meeting you again like this but I hope it doesn’t happen again,” she grimaced angrily at him and walked away, opening her van door, she went in and slammed the door.
Starting the car, she drove off immediately, the tears spewing from her eyes.

Hello lovelies, thanks you so much for checking out my book. Trust me, it'll be a very sweet ride. Please leave a comment about the story so far and vote if you can. :)
..."Mr Anderson?"Anderson shifted his gaze from the white van that had just zoomed past, leaving a dusty trail, to his Secretary who was still holding the car door open for him. He turned back again, to look at the direction the vehicle had passed before hopping into the car. When the car began moving, Anderson's thoughts trailed to her. Had she been in town all along? If she is still together with James, then she must be living a good life. Their schemes are alike, and just like him, James is quite rich.Betrayers and cheats should only be with themselves. He huffed, why is he even thinking about her?Even after four months, she still wore her shame with pride. Just how shameless can she be?"Where is the destination, Mr Anderson?" "The headquarter," Anderson replied."Are you alright, sir?" Shania asked, having noticed his sour mood, "you look a bit tight, do you want something to drink?" "No," his response was cold."I don't mean to pry, sir but that lady back there kind of
...Katherine exhaled lightly before accepting the seat she was offered in the doctor's office, she waited for him to finish up with whatever he was doing at his desk before attending to her."I'm certain you are aware of your father's condition?" He started and Katherine nodded twice, gulping at nothing."I am," she vocally intoned."Well, I will not go into details and explain the reason he passed out because the most important thing you should know is that your father needs to undergo surgery for a heart transplant as soon as possible. He's been suppressing it for too long and the suppressants are no longer as effective on his system. The best option right now is an immediate transplant." "How soon?" Katherine asked, batting her lashes to push back the tears."It will be fantastic if we can commence today, the waiting list is long but your father's is at the critical stage and he can be attended to immediately, but it all depends on you," he expatiate. "If he is not operated on in
.. Katherine glanced at Yvonne who was busy weaving, she felt relieved seeing her so concentrated and detached from all the dilemma wrapped around her head. She dart her gaze to the computer again, refreshing it for a reply. "Katy?" "Mmh," she moaned a response to her, her gaze fully scanning the screen of the computer. "Is Daddy not coming home soon?" Her palm instantly stopped moving the mouse and she let out a low sigh before turning to Yvonne whose hands and concentration was on the weaving. "He is. He just needs a few more rest days at the hospital. He'll be with us in no time." "Will he not be sick anymore when he returns?" "Yes. He will be just fine and we'll all be together for the longest time." Katherine's lips shifted into a smile. They were just words but Katherine wanted herself to believe them too. "What about the hospital bill? I don't think we have enough to cover it, Katy." "Right," Katherine shifted her gaze, thinking her response carefully, "but I'll ge
...*Deal.*Katherine read the simple text that popped in her phone the moment she stepped into her room. As she threw the phone to the bed, heaving a sigh; she realised that just like her, Anderson was desperate, seriously desperate and Katherine was certain he wouldn't have considered her if he had other options. Or is this a method of his to punish her?At least she now had enough to settle Margie, It's been two months already and she's yet to get her payment. Even though she had never once complained about the delay, Katherine knew it wasn't right. She had her own problems too. It would be the first time she experience such delay with the Tetrazzini's, her father never owed any of his workers; even when they had quite a lot. Margaret especially, had served them dutifully for over ten years without any doubt, she constituted the figure of a mother both to Yvonne and her. After that, she could use the balance to cover a little from Xavier's medical bills. Katherine leaned backwa
....Anderson arrived at his parents and got to the central hall where the rest of the family were settled including Suzy, Renard's supposed Fiancee. Anderson couldn't help but cringe at their lovey dovey gestures. Renard disengaged from Suzy when he sighted him, "Always the last one to turn up, not commendable at all for a CEO." "You know Anderson, his work life is more vital than his social life," Marcus chipped in, raising a taunting brow at Anderson.Anderson scoffed at him without a verbal response, he turned to his father to give him a proper greeting before settling down. "Hi, you must be the first one. I'm Suzy," she smiled at Anderson, as if purposely trying to make her expensive braces obvious to him. The first one? Anderson gave her a light grimace. Studying her face, he realised his mother's description had done no justice to her actual looks. A doll appeared too graceful compared to her. "I was told," Anderson gave her a brief look, ignoring the handshake she offere
....Now, standing in front of the gigantic residence of the Riecke's, another round of battle began blobbing into her mind. She clutched her purse closer to her skin and walked towards the entrance. She was allowed entrance without a word and before she could get to the door, Rosa came running towards her. She politely took her purse, leaving Katherine no room to decline."Good afternoon miss. You must be Mr Anderson's lady, they're expecting you." They? The Riecke's? Did he already tell them of her coming? The thoughts made the hair on her skin rise.Katherine took another look at Rosa, it was at this moment she realised Rosa didn't recognize her. Did she wear too much makeup?Or maybe Rosa never expected her to show up at the building again since her relationship with Anderson already ended. Transporting to reality, Katherine discovered Rosa was already walking towards the building door, she quickly ran uncomfortably in her heels to reach her and get her purse but the older woma
....."Drop me," Katherine said, drawing her purse even closer to her thigh."I'll take you home." "No, I refuse," she said, holding the door to open it. She turned to him when she realised he made no move to stop the car, "Anderson--"Are you just going to act oblivious to what happened?""Yes. Because it doesn't involve me," she answered him. If she had known accepting his offer to take her home would erupt this much effect in her, she would have declined. But with his parents watching and waiting for them to leave, Katherine felt it would be unusual rejecting his ride after the act they pulled up in front of everyone. Anderson heaved a sigh, his fist rigidly holding the steering. He hated how desperate he was and how he was vividly showing it in front of her.He had to send his chauffeur home just to have this moment with her but she obviously was trying to get out of it. "I mentioned you."Katherine went mute to that. "I wish to get down now, Anderson." "I don't want to do th
..."Mr Riecke," Gerald answered, walking in."See if the car needs servicing, the one I returned with." "Oh, right away sir." Gerald walked out. Anderson released the towel from his neck and hung it on one shoulder, he grabbed his cellphone and opened Peter's file, going through it. Just like he guessed, Peter truly obtained the informations he requested.Perusing through the content, Anderson realised yet again the accuracy of his hunch about her difficulties. "...heart disease.." Anderson muttered under his breath, his palm on his chin. He checked all the medical bills and debts Xavier was yet to pay. He went through the list one after the other, good thing Peter made it so easy. For a second, he wondered if Katherine was aware of all the debts her father owed nor had a way to settle all of it, obviously she was the one carrying all these debts now considering Xavier's condition. Anderson also noticed Xavier didn't include any information about his family to his creditors, Kat
"When did you arrive?" Jude asked after handing her a cup of coffee. "Two hours ago. Would have arrived earlier but there was a little trouble with the flight." "I hope it was nothing serious. You're okay, right?" "Oh, not at all. And I'm fine," Hope smiled. Jude lowered his gaze to the ground like there was something interesting there and an awkward silence fell between them. "How have you been?" Hope broke the silence. He started with a slow repetitive nod, "Good. Really good. You?" "Same," Hope nodded. "I was driving to Dad Xavier's to pick up Katy's kids, so I thought I'd stop by and say hi since I was close. You'll be at the party, right?" "Yeah, I'm all dressed up for it." "Oh good," Hope breathed out, wrapping her palms around the mug. As much as she didn't like how silent they were, she expected it. It's been seven years and she suddenly appears in front of him without a word. She had hoped to ask him to accompany her to Xavier's or probably expected him to su
*** _*Six_Years Later*_ *** Renard's fingers caressed the package as he spoke on the phone to his mother. "Ugh, Mom! I told you I'm not going." "Just this once, Renard. It's not like you attended the previous ones. How long do you plan to distance yourself? They're your niece and nephew!" "Do you have to keep calling me every year for the same thing? I have work to do, if I slack Anderson wouldn't take it lightly. You know how he is. I can't stand him," Renard fused. "Even Marcus will be there, you think you're the only one who has work to do? Besides we both know Anderson wouldn't trouble for missing one day." Renard grumbled, taking the gift off his thigh. "If I go this once, will you stop calling me concerning it?" "I'll give you a break for the next two years." "Four," he bargained. "Three years. I can't believe we're bargaining this! It's not even supposed to be this serious." "You're making it serious, Mom. Like I don't care about my brother, I mean I send gif
***"Careful," Anderson cautioned, his palms resting on her bare baby bump. They both giggled as she successfully sat on him, her weight falling on him. She touched his chest to support her balance, and Anderson quickly adjusted to the weight. Katherine began moving her waist in circular motion and riding him slowly. Amidst the waves of pleasure, Anderson's eyes remained plastered on her, fearing that she might fall and ready to grasp her if she did. "Do you really have to do this?" He asked, guiding his hands to her waist. "Yes," she answered. "Relax and enjoy. I'm fine," she said, leaning slowly to kiss his chest. Anderson threw his head back, the pleasure slowly grasping him more than he could control. "About Marcus-Anderson sighed, "is that what this is about?" "No," Katherine denied, moving her hands to his chest and teasing his nipples with her fingers. "Fuck Katy, this is so goddamn good," he groaned and she smiled, loving how she gained control of him in a short space
***"200 meters is just perfect, if there are any changes I'll let you know beforehand," the client stood up."Please do, sir," Leila stood up with him. "Until then, we'll have the garden ready for you and yours " He smiled, "Perfect. If you're available, please attend." With that, he slipped an invitation card into her hand. "Oh," Leila hesitated, "I'll see what I can do." After a handshake, Leila picked up her stuff and walked out. In her car, which she managed to get back with her earning, Leila made a happy dance. She was elated and above all, she was glad she was finally doing something that would make her boss pleased with her again. After losing a rental deal a week back, Leila had tried to make up for it. She noticed Jude's unwillingness when she asked to be in charge of this project, but he eventually handed it to her. Amongst the twelve clients, ten were willing to patronize them, one was going to think about it and the last person already booked elsewhere. Leila coul
***Jude didn't miss the discontented look on Bianca's face when he walked in with Leila. "Hey," she forced a smile, "I didn't know you were bringing someone with you. We didn't discuss that." "She's my secretary and will be in charge of the meeting. She'll answer all of your questions and explain to you what to expect if your father's corporation partners with us." "Oh secretary," Bianca emphasized, relaxing. "I don't mind." "Where's your father, I expected to see him here with you." "Oh he's not coming," she winked. "He wants me to talk to you first and if I like what you're proposing, we automatically have a deal. So it's all in my hands now." "Okay," Jude shrugged, "so let me start with-"Hold on," Bianca's leaned over the table to touch him. Jude jerked away from her hold, glaring at her, "Why don't we eat first? It's a dinner date remember." "Not a date," he reminded. "Right," she chuckled softly. "Over here, waiter." A waiter approached their table at once, "What are y
***"Leila-" The door went open and she quickly turned away, wiping the tears from her eyes while trying to gain composure of herself. Jude's brow narrowed as he opened the door wider and walked in, his gaze first landed on the skinny tall man in his secretary's office and then on Leila whose back was at him. "I need you to make me some coffee," he said. "I'll be there, sir. Please give me a second," she answered, trying her best to give a straight response despite the sound of her voice. "Who is he?" Jude asked, staring at the unknown man that wore a frown. He didn't plan on interfering but the atmosphere in the room was something he didn't want any of his guests to meet. "H-he-" Leila stuttered. "I'm her husband," the skinny man replied, darting a cold stare at Jude, "you must be the boss." "Alex, please leave.." Leila tried to interfere. "What? I can't meet your boss? You said you were scared, should I tell him on your behalf then?" "No, get out!" Leila snapped, her voice
***Jude walked into his office, he turned around only to find Leila stirring his coffee as she spoke on the phone. Her body was in a different direction but her hand didn't stop moving the spoon in a circular motion. She was carried away and seemed to be pissed with whoever she was talking to on the phone. Jude noticed this and paused, watching her multitask. It was her first day without Ria's assistance and she was already giving him an idea of how berserking she could be. "I told you I'm fine, I don't need your money. Please stop calling me, you could get in trouble," She hassled. "Stop talking to me, I don't want any more problems between you guys." "Please don't say another word to me, Mom. You know I'll never agree to it. I can't move back in, don't you understand?...The other words strolled off his hearing. Mom? She was arguing with her mother? Jude squinted his brows. "I'm hanging up, please don't call me again. I'm fine and I don't need your help. I'm not worth losing yo
***"Sir?" Jude looked up from his computer to find Ria, his secretary walking in. "I brought the monthly accounts for the three hotels in Northridge. I already reworked them and piled in the conclusion. Please check and tell me if there's a problem." Jude took the papers from her and went through each page briefly. Knowing her capabilities, it didn't take him a lot of time before he started nodding in satisfaction. She had worked for him for four years and had proven countless times to be competent. Left to him, he wished he could make her stay. "What do you think? Is it good, sir?" She asked when he dropped the file. "Yeah. All good." "Really?" He shot her a stare, "is there a problem?" "Not really but the intern actually worked that out. It wasn't my doing." "Intern?" He looked lost for a minute before it hit him, "Leila?" "Yes sir. I gave them to her two days ago and made my workings too just in case, but checking them I realized she did quite a good job with the balanc
***"Oh hey, there Rey-" he grabbed her wrist before she could finish talking and led her out of the hall, scowling. His grip was too strong for her resistance and soon she relaxed and focused on catching up with his long step in her six inches heels. "What the hell," she breathed out when he finally stopped and released her, pushing her ahead of him roughly. "What the hell is right. Now, what the hell are you doing here?" He growled at her. She huffed, crossing her arms. "To see you obviously, who else do I know in this stinking rich organization." Renard grimaced, "I don't recall inviting you, and I cut all ties with Suzy and everything that has to do with her so why the hell are you here?" "Jeez chill, I didn't come to bother you," Anna assured, tucking her hair behind her ear, "You're the only one I could come to because you're the only one I know that knows Suzy." "So?" "I came to drop off her stuff. I'm leaving the country first thing tomorrow and her stuff are in my way.
