“Ophelia.” Her mother called out immediately after she heard her scream.
“Mom.” She cried out.
“Please, my daughter, open the door.” She begged her.
Ophelia stayed for some seconds before getting up and staggered towards the door. Maria heard the door lock click, and she pushed the door open only to see how deranged her daughter looked.
“Oh, good heavens.” She grumbled. She looked around and saw how disorganized the room looked.
“Ophelia, you can't keep doing this to yourself.” She shrieked.
Ophelia brought her mom closer and engulfed her in a tight hug. “Mom.” She called out.
“I'm here.” Her mother replied in a calm voice.
“Why are we so unfortunate when it comes to men?” she asked with her eyes dazed.
“My beloved daughter, we are not unfortunate. It is just that fate is preparing your ideal man for you.” Her mother consoled her and her lips curved in a grim smile.
“Ideal man, you say.” She hissed out and pulled away from the hug.
“Jeremy was my ideal man, but what did fate do? It took him away from me in the cruelest way ever.” She spat out in sudden anger. “We were doing all good before it decided to interfere in our lives.” She added.
It was in the middle of the night. They could hardly see each other, but the faint light made it possible.
“You know what I think? I think fate is against us. I think it does not want to know what it feels like to be loved and cherished, mom.” She said, crouching down to her knees and started crying again.
Her mother was already crying too. She remembered the past with her husband also. It hurts, but she has to act strong for her daughter.
“Ophelia, you know before you were born, your father used to love me..” She was talking when Ophelia interrupted her.
“Used to love you? Really? Huh, what happened after?” she shouted.
“All men are the same. All they do is hurt women's feelings without remorse.” She yelled with her breath harsh.
“Ophelia, I understand the pain you are going through. It is your first breakup and also heartbreak. That is why I want you to be strong for me. And for you.” Her mother pleaded.
“I don’t think I can, mom. I‘m too weak right now.” She mumbled and faced down.
“When am I going to stop thinking about him, mom?” She asked and looked her mom in the eye.
“When did you stop thinking about dad?” she asked, looking at her mother when she got no reply.
“It is quite impossible to stop, but you can do things that will prevent you from thinking about it.” Her mother answered without meeting her in the eye.
“D-Does that mean y-you still t-think about d-dad?” she asked with scrutiny.
Her mother swallowed hard and looked away.
“I courted him for three years and then married him for seven years. How do you expect me to let go so easily?” Her mother muttered.
“So you have not forgotten about that man and what he did to you,” Ophelia said, looking at her mother with irritated eyes.
“I‘m trying my best.” She said,
“That best is not enough,” Ophelia said sternly.
“Ophelia, calm down and think straight.” Her mother urged her.
“I will come to check on you tomorrow morning.” She dismissed and left for her room. Their discussion was slowly going awry.
“Goodnight,” Ophelia said. Maria heard but did not give a reply.
—
Maria entered her room and locked it. She went over to her wardrobe and brought out a photo frame. It was a picture they had taken on their wedding day. And it was the only one left as he had angrily burnt everything that night. He wanted her out of his life.
Maria sat on the bed and stared intensely at the photo frame in her hands. She misses him, but she dares not say it out. Although he mistreated her, she still had feelings for him. She was always in love with him. He loved her. Yes, he did. She also did not know where she had gone wrong.
“Please, God, Let my daughter find someone to protect and cherish her.” She prayed silently.
She saw how happy they looked. How could mother and daughter suffer the same fate? This was impossible.
She remembered how he looked when he knelt with his ever-handsome face and proposed his love to her. He had done it on the left, and people were clicking photos. She felt like the happiest woman on earth that day. And the foolish her was all over the moon, shoving her fingers straight into her friend's eye.
Was she not later disgraced?
She never knew what a devil he was before marrying him. She watched him sleep with sluts. Go to beer parlors. Spend his money on other ladies.
You want to know more. He rapes her even after he has satisfied himself with other ladies outside. He compares her to those ladies and tells her she is never sexy.
That all those lovey-dovey was because of a bet he and his friends had placed on her. He beats her almost to the extent of fainting. And yet she was not ready to leave. Her daughter had watched her dad beat her up.
You know they used to be one happy family. Whenever he comes back from work, she makes sure to give him a soothing massage, and it sometimes ends in romantic lovemaking. She made sure that his food was always ready even.
Especially when she was pregnant with Ophelia, he took care of her like the Queen of his empire. He prepares breakfast before he leaves, and then when he comes back, he cooks dinner. He gives her a massage with so much love.
She wished she could turn back the hands of time and see where she went wrong. She should have known he was only after… she heaved a sigh.
She kept thinking if she could endure the pain, he would change, but then he was full of surprises, you know.
“Is this fate, as my daughter finalized? Or is it just not being lucky when it comes to men?” She asked herself in sinks whispers.
“Out!” He yelled. She looked at him to see if he was drunk or something. She looked around to see what time of the day or, instead, night. It was still dark and likely to be 1:00 AM. “But.. It is midnight.” She said with a confused look. He stared at her blankly. “Are you trying to tell me that I‘m blind?” He asked with furrowed eyebrows. “No, it is just that….” A slap cut her off. It took her by surprise. The slap was so loud that it echoed and woke Ophelia up. Ophelia rushed to her mom's room the moment she heard it. She was about to open the door when she heard her dad chatter. “I said. Get the fuck out, NOW!!!” He yelled again. “Oh... Okay.” She said and scrambled down from the bed. She wore her slippers and exited the room. “Ophelia.” Her mother called in surprise. “Shouldn’t you be sleeping? What are you doing here?” She asked with tears glistening in her eyes. Tears were already streaming down Ophelia's face at the sight of her mother's reddened cheeks. “Mom.” She sai
Chapter 5 Ophelia stood up and went back to the living room. “Who is there?” She asked as she unlocked the door. “Kelly.” She said as she stared at her friend, who had a smile on her lips, then it slowly turned to a confused one. Ophelia smiled a little, looking at her. “Ain't you supposed to be in Los Angeles? Why are you home?” Kelly asked as she entered. Ophelia sighed and stared blankly at her. “Something happened?” She asked as she looked at him with skepticism when she got no reply. “Oh, Kelly, you are here.” Ophelia's mom said as she came into the sitting room. “Good morning, ma'am.” She said with a bright smile. “How are you doing?” She asked as she walked over to them. “Fine, ma'am.” She answered. “I thought Ophelia would be in Los Angeles, so I brought you breakfast,” Kelly explained. The mother and daughter stared at each other and shrugged. Kelly started arranging the food she had brought. “Hmm, looks delicious.” Ophelia hummed, taking a seat in the small dining
She turned around on the bed.“Looks like someone is having a very bad hang over.” She heard a voice say.She opened her eyes and saw Kelly putting up the curtains.“Ouch, my head hurts.” She muttered.Kelly turned towards her and looked at her disheveled hair and how sleepy she looked.“How did we get home? And besides it is morning already?” She asked, her brows furrowing on confusion.“Well, a very handsome man helped us, you know.” Kelly said and giggled as she remembered how good – looking the man was.“And he was so kind.” Kelly added. Ophelia arched her eyebrow and stared at her. Why was she giggling like that?“Hey wait, don’t tell me you are already in love with a stranger we met at the club?” Ophelia questioned as she sat up.“Oh, please. All I am saying is that he is handsome and all you know.” Kelly rolled her eyes as she clarified.Ophelia looked around and started searching for something.“What is it you are looking for?” Kelly asked when she saw how she was looking conf
“Boss.” Steven called out as ran after him.“Where is the place, you dummy?” Demetrius asked angrily.Gosh, he was so hungry. The food the hotel had served him was nothing to write home about and now.. Now to find a restaurant seems to be a problem in London.“Answer!” He shouted impatiently.“Erm.. Ermm..” Steven stuttered and turned around maybe to catch a glimpse of any restaurant but luck was not on his side.“Talk!’ Demetrius shouted.“The person said down the street.” Steven mumbled.“Where are we?” Demetrius asked.“Down the street.” Steven replied and cowered.“Maybe the person was wrong.” Steven said.“I will go look around for another restaurant.” Steven said and was about to run off when Demetrius stopped him and pointed to an house-like place more like a diner.“It is over there.” Demetrius said and walked there.“Thank you Jesus, Thank you gracious Lord. I am so tired.” Steven said as he walked over to his boss.Demetrius stood in front of the restaurant and stared at it
“Hey, Ophelia.” She heard someone call her. A smile crept on her lips and she turned around to meet the love of her life, Jeremy Maxwell. She ran as fast as she could to meet him. Just as they were about to hug, he suddenly turned to a monster with two horns.“I don't love you.”“I hate you, Ophelia Martins.”“You are nothing but an object I wanted to play with.”She heard several voices say as she gazed at the monster in front of her. She slowly took steps back. She screamed out and dashed into a race. She was busy running, looking back to see if the monster was still chasing her that she did not realize that there was stone before her. She stumbled on it and fell flat on the floor. She stiffened, unable to move. The monster took slow strides towards her. Saliva dripped down its mouth. She screamed her lungs as it came towards her.She scrambled, trying to move away from it but she could not. Just as it brought its face towards her.“Help!!” she yelled out. She jerked up instantly,
Coming out of the bathroom, Demetrius had a towel tied dangerously low on his waist.“Yes, mom. Sure. I will be coming back in three days' time.” He said, rolling his eyes as he hand picked his shirt and wore it. “Mom, as soon as I am done. I will give you a call.” He said with a dismissive tone. She would not stop telling him to take care, eat well, sleep well and watch his health. He is grown up man for goodness sake! After he was done with wearing his clothes, he used the cufflinks and buckled the laces of his shoes. He stood up and brushed his hair.He struck a pose at his reflection in the mirror. He chuckled and carried his suitcase. Then he walked towards the door of his room.Sometimes, Demetrius could be funny, caring, affectionate. And other times, he could be that business tycoon. He saw Steven standing outside already. He already wore his shoes.“I was thinking I will be the one knocking on your day.” Demetrius said as they walked down the corridors. Steven smiled and pu
As she went through the job vacancies there. She saw a vacancy of marketing officer. Sure, she can definitely do this. She smiled as she clicked the ‘apply' button and put in the necessary credentials. Such as her age, name, passport and so on. She cross checked it again and submitted. Finally, luck was on her side. She checked for the place the company was located. “Dallas, Texas.” She read it out.“Wow, that’s nice. At least, Kelly and I would be able to get a good apartment.” She thought.“That is if you get accepted.” Her subconscious mind added. She uttered a snort and removed her drive before clearing her account from the desktop. She paid for the services rendered and left the place.**Each and everything they were saying went through the left ear and came out at the right ear as Demetrius seemed immersed in whatever they were discussing.“So are we done?” He asked when no one spoke up. Before he came, he already saw a solution to the crisis they were facing so they literally
*Three days Later*Kelly and Ophelia woke up quite early as they would be leaving for Texas today. Like they were really anxious, especially Kelly.Ophelia was dressed in a pair of black denim jeans and a white t-shirt matched with a pair of white sneakers while Kelly had a simple free navy blue gown and a pair of black sandals on. They both had their hair packed into a ponytail while Ophelia had some strands down her forehead. They stepped out of the room and saw Maria serving the food already.“Good morning.” Kelly greeted while Ophelia mumbled and took a seat. Maria served them and soon began eating. It was just some loaves of bread with tea. They quickly chewed it.After they were done, they cleaned up. They could not bother Maria to do it, right?Kelly went in and pushed their suitcase towards the living room.“Mom, we are ready to go.” Kelly said since she noticed that the mother and daughter did not talk to each other.“Good bye, mom.” Ophelia forced the words out as she and K
~Ophelia's POV~My best friend, laid before me, with blood spilling from her lips and her eyes opened but lifeless. How the hell did this happen? How could I have forgotten that I was being followed? A waiter had come to meet Demetrius where I was standing and he had whispered in his ear. It was the look of shock that was his face that caught my attention and how the waiter was trembling. I knew something bad if not worse must have happened. I had asked him what was wrong only for him to walk outside and I followed him then I came in contact with this horrific view of the corpse of my best friend. How did it happen?Why... I don't even know what to do. Whether I should cry or just stare, I was shocked.Demetrius had called the cops and they would be here at any time but still I could not find myself moving away from Kelly's dead body. Our friendship had turned rocky ever since we came here. I tried to get back with her but she was not letting me in. And now she was dead. Like dead.
It was evening already and the guests were beginning to stride in. Ophelia was busy welcoming them, she had gone upstairs to change and Loretta had helped her mother into a nice dress and after so many resistance from Maria, she put a little make up on her face. "Thank you for coming." Ophelia said to one of the guests. They nodded their heads and made their way to the place. The cake was brought in by the waitering services and the party soon kicked start. Ophelia was very excited as she could not stop grinning from ear to ear as she watched everyone conversed. Demetrius went to stand close to her as he knew that she could need him at any moment. She turned to him with a appreciative look and he just shook his head."You deserve it and more." He said and she giggled. She was soon called on the podium and people began to drop their gifts then the cake cutting time came where she took pictures with people. The waiters began to serve the wine and everyone chatted away. Unaware to any
I looked up at Demetrius. "Someone is here?" Kelly asked."Come in." Loretta said and the door was pushed open. My mother stepped in, she looked around the place and then her eyes landed on me. My brows creases together."Mother..." She raised her hands to me."You..." She trailed off as she moved closed to us."So you now stay with a man? Or are you here for a celebration? Wait, you are the one celebrating?" She asked and I could feel the hurt in her voice."Mother...." I said as I moved closer to her."Stay away from me." She said, using her hand to make a distance between us."Ophelia." Demetrius called out. I turned to him."This is my mother." I said and his face brightened up."Didn't know you had one. Good day ma." He greeted with a polite smile."You are... That stupid boss of hers?" She asked and I gulped softly.Demetrius turned to look at me with an amused smile then back at her. "Considering that we are meeting for the first time, I will introduce myself. I am Demetrius Va
Weeks later....~Ophelia's POV~Gosh, no one told me morning sickness could be this bad. But–Water splashed on my face and I yelped out."What the heck? Demetrius?!" I yelled out in shock. Water dripped down from my hair to my night gown."Happy Birthday!" Kelly and Demetrius squealed and I could not help but glare at them."I know you wanted to surprise me but do you have to wet me with water like this?!" I asked them and they scoffed. The both of them, Ha!"Happy Birthday to you, Ophelia." Loretta came in with a gift in her hand. Gentle lady manner.I looked around. "Where is Maureen?" I asked. That little devil."She...." Demetrius scratched the back of his neck."How about you dress quickly and come downstairs?" He asked instead and I knew that there was something going on. I stared at him with interest and he shrugged with a smile on his lips. I snorted and climbed down the bed. They both exited the room for me and I picked out the clothes I will be wearing. My baby bump was not
PART FIVE~Demetruis' POV~She is carrying my child? My own freaking child? My child. And she left me. What if something happened to her? Or to the kid?I pulled the car over and stepped out. I walked towards the entrance of Emery's house. Pushing the door open, not caring to knock, I walked inside.I saw her, the devil herself, sitting there with a smoke in her hands and watching Netflix. Spoilt brat."You came back?" She asked as she faced me with a amused look."No, I did not. And will never." I bit out as I clenched my fist from going straight for her plastic chin. Instead I moved closer to her, I leaned over, almost choking on the awful cigarette smell. This brand was really really hard, I wonder how is she yet to run mad. Even I must not take these. Well, what do you expect from someone like Emery?"I know what you did." I whispered and I noticed her throat burp and she choked on the smoke.Good.She started coughing out and reached for the drink. I took it away in a swift motio
PART FOUR~Ophelia's POV~Loretta's lips widened into a grin as she took note of me. From her huge grin I knew her heart leaped with joy. Which was weird for me. I mean why would she be so happy to meet me? I am just an ordinary secretary to her son."Ophelia." She called out with every ounce of your joy she could show. My lips turned into a small smile and I moved forward. "Ma'am." I greeted."Oh my goodness, you are real." She said as she touched her chest. She pulled me into an instant hug and squeezed me tight. Okay, this treatment I am receiving is weird for me today."You don't know how much I missed you." Maureen said and I noticed she was crying. She was crying? For me?I am really heartless.I crouched down to her level and cupped her face in my palms. "I am so sorry, Maureen. I promise you I won't leave again." I said and she blinked her eyes."You won't?" She asked and I nodded my head. "I won't." I stood up."Okay then. I have so many things to show you." She said and was
PART THREE~Ophelia's POV~To say that I was shocked will be an understatement. Damien was standing here. In my little living room. In a casual dress. He raised his brows and folded his arms. "Never knew you were such a loser!" He snapped at me suddenly and I felt the small world I was trying to build crumble down before me at the vocals of his voice."I..." The words could not even form at all. What was he doing here? How did he get here? Why was he here?He stared at me with scrutiny, walked towards me with calculating steps. "So you think you can just leave as you want after what happened?" He asked, his eyes searching for a particular thing I know nothing of. This was dangerous. It was dangerous. Why can't he just let me go?I need to speak up, Clearing my throat, I patted my thigh with my hands. "Nice meeting you again." I said and he uttered a scoff before settling down to sit. I followed his every action. His muscles strained in the pair of jeans he wore. He had his eyes fixat
PART TWOI woke up as early as I could for this mysterious meeting with this person. I was eager to see what he had in store for me but I should also be careful because it could be the person that was stalking Ophelia at that time. But it goes both ways and I hope it is worth the risk I was taking."Demetrius, where are you going so early?" My mother asked as she sipped her tea. That was one thing she was used to. Waking up early and drinking tea as she watches the sun rise."No where. Just have to make a quick visit to someone." I said and she turned to me fully with a shocked expression."Really? Never knew you to make meetings as early as this." She said with her brows raised and I did not want to tell her about it."Mother, it is nothing to worry about. I will be quick." I said and hurried towards the dining table. I picked an apple and bit into it."Goodbye mum." I said and walked out. It was still a little bit dark so I just drove my car. Getting to the place took some minutes,
PART ONE~Ophelia's POV~Kelly moved away from me and went towards the door. I just stood there, expecting to see who it was that came here. Something in me was hoping that it would be HIM. Opening it, she moved back and Ryan peeped in with a cocky smile."Sorry but you left your purse." He said as he handed it over to me. I stared at him with scrutiny. He could have just called me back. Right? He looked at Kelly and I noticed her move uncomfortably on her feet. "Okay, you can leave now. Thank you anyway for the ride. I really appreciate." I said again with a feigned smile that I was not even sure it was there and he nodded his head at me before moving back. Kelly slammed the door shut and glared at me before going to sit down. Just as I was about to utter a word, a knock came again and I groaned out loud. What does he want?I walked towards the door with the aim to speak my mind to him but then I pushed the door open, "I am quite thirsty. I was thinking if you would welcome me insid
