Chapter 2 He Feeds Her Fruit?!

TAMMY’S POV

I hadn't recovered from the shock when I received another message.

It’s from Rachel again, but this time it’s not a text, it’s a picture. I zoom in to the two people sitting in the corner of the room. I can immediately make out that it’s a man and a woman.

But the thing is I can’t see Sean’s face, I can only see the back of a man’s head that kind of looks like he does. And he’s definitely as tall as Sean. It must be him. And the woman? I zoom closer to make out her face.

I see that voluptuous blonde hair, bright eyes and skin smooth enough to think she was still in her twenties, but I know she’s thirty three. Because it’s Sue. She’s mid-laugh in this photo, her arms almost wrapped completely around Sean.

They’ve always been close, even in age. They could be siblings! It must have been strange for Sean to attend his father’s wedding to Sue, him being a teenager and she only 20 at the time. She was his father’s ultimate trophy wife.

I finally let out a slow sigh of relief. Sean isn’t with just any woman. He’s with his step mom. Phew. I know he keeps some secrets from me, especially in his line of work, but I’m sure he’d never cheat on me.

I decide to call Sean to see if he’s home safely and to tell him how great the food was at the restaurant he was supposed to enjoy with me tonight.

I dial his number and wait for the dial tone. It rings. And rings. No answer.

I can’t think anymore, my brain is putty. I need to brush my teeth and get into bed before I pass out. Tomorrow is another day in paradise…

***

I wake up with a start. I rub my eyes, the reality of yesterday sinks in. Right, I’m in Greece on my honeymoon. Without my husband. I reach for my phone.

I squint at my bright phone screen as I see a notification from Sean that came through not too long ago.

“Morning Tam, sorry about not picking up your calls last night, I had to jump straight into a work emergency. You know how it goes. Chat soon.”

What the hell do I do now? I’m pretty sure we have a couples massage booked in an hour at the hotel spa, famous for its enormous quartz crystal sauna room. How humiliating would it be for me to go alone? It would just be another reminder of the fact that I’m alone on my honeymoon.

This tripe has truly been a failure. I don’t see the point in staying. I surrender. I’m going to pack up my things and head home on the next flight. I’m sure Sean will make it up to me…I hope.

Should I call Sean and ask him to fetch me from the airport? It is Monday, he’s probably swamped with that bloody work emergency.

I know Sue gets annoyed with me when I call him and they’re neck deep in a work project. I’ll just get a taxi home when I land. He’s probably going to be so excited to see me home later tonight! It’s decided, I’ll surprise him.

The flight home is a blur, but before I know it, I land, grab my luggage and hail the first cab home. The drive is too slow but at least the traffic isn’t too bad. It’s only 3pm, peak hour traffic hasn’t started yet.

I greet the doorman in our apartment block and step into the elevator to the penthouse. Finally, I’m home.

I know no one is here so I don’t even bother calling out for Sean or Valentina, our house maid. I roll my luggage into the large entrance room, leaving it there for Val to unpack when she gets in tomorrow morning.

I need a steamy shower before Sean gets home.

But first I head to the kitchen for a quick refreshment. I slowly turn the corner of the hallway and into one of the panoramic sitting rooms that leads into the kitchen and stop dead in my tracks.

I’m so shocked I can’t move, seeing what’s in front of me, right on the plush emerald green sofa overlooking the city below.

Sean and Sue. They don’t see me yet as they face each other, giggling softly.

He reaches over to a side table with a bowl of exotic fruits sitting on top of it and picks up a ripe, red cherry by its stalk. He slowly brings it to her mouth as she sultrily opens it just wide enough for the cherry to reach her front teeth. Her lips wrap around the luscious berry as she slowly takes it in her mouth.

Sean keeps hold of the broken-off stalk while she chews, longingly holding eye contact with each other. He cheekily flicks the cherry stalk onto the carpet.

I’ve gone cold. What am I seeing? This seems very, very wrong. I realize my mouth is hanging wide open in shock, and I quickly snap out of it as I say,

“Sean? What the hell is going on?”
