The next morning, Hazel woke up early to make breakfast for Coyle before he left for work, but she was too late as he had already left before she woke up.
She freshened up and slipped into the normal clothes she had come with; her gaze was stuck on the luxurious ring on her fingers.
"He will never find out if I take it out," Hazel thought, but she was a little scared. What even scared her the most were her colleagues at work asking her so many questions about the man she married, as it was obvious that Nady had already made them all know she didn't marry Max.
With a heavy heart, she took out the ring and kept it safely in her purse before she walked to the entrance.
"Hello Mrs. Anderson, I am Josh." A man dressed in a white shirt and black trousers who was in his late thirties introduced himself, and Hazel nodded with a smile.
"I will take you to work," he said, and she shook her head at the negative.
"It's fine. I will take a cab."
"Mr. Anderson said you are not allowed to leave without a driver," he added. Coyle had given him a strict order to make sure to drive Hazel around, or he might just kiss his job goodbye.
Hazel had no choice but to go with Josh; he didn't ask for her location, as Coyle already told him to drive his wife to work and also told him the company.
Minutes later, he parked the car in front of Apex, an advertising company that was ranked the tenth amongst the top ten best in the country.
Hazel walked down the car and waved at Josh before she went into the company and walked to the elevator, which took her to the second floor.
"Hello Hazel"
"Hello Hazel"
They greeted her from every cubicle she passed, and once she was out of sight, they all whispered to each other.
"Can you believe Nady married Max Wilson instead?"
"It's so hard to believe; it's not as if Nady is prettier than Hazel, so how come?"
"Do men just marry pretty women? Nady is a perfect and very smart girl; I won't blame any man for choosing her over Hazel."
They kept muttering and only stopped when they heard the loud sound of heels clicking on the hard floor. A lady stood there with a frown.
She was dressed in a blue shirt and pencil skirt; it was the art director Mia, who was also Hazel's boss.
Mia was in her late twenties and also very astonishing; she frowned at the workers. "Did this place turn into a gossip hall?" she asked, and they all shook their heads embarrassedly.
"Hazel is my secretary, and talking behind her is a slap to my face, understood?" Mia asked, and they nodded before she walked to her office. Hazel hurried towards her.
"Good day, Mia." Hazel greeted with a smile, and Mia rolled her eyes before she walked to her office and closed the door.
Hazel sighed heavily before she walked to her cubicle and decided to catch up with everything she missed when she was on leave.
It was more than an hour, and Hazel was done; she was about to go meet Mia when she received a phone call from Nady.
"Why is she calling?" Hazel thought, and hesitantly she connected the call.
"Hello sister?" Nady said in a melodic tone.
"Hello"
"I will stop by the Anderson mansion tonight so we could share a cup of coffee; what do you think?" Nady asked, and Hazel's brows furrowed.
Why was Nady talking like they were on good terms? After everything she did to her, and now she was feigning to have amnesia?
"Do you plan to slip poison into my coffee? No thanks," Hazel snorted and ended the call. Right now, she was over the fact that Nady and Max had betrayed her. The only thing that bothered her was the fact that they even had plans to kill her after the marriage.
What type of sister plans another's death?
"Hazel," Mia called, and Hazel hurried to her office. Mia was on a phone call and pointed at the empty glass of coffee to Hazel, who quickly left to make another coffee.
Hazel returned with the coffee, and this time around, Mia was done with the phone call. She pushed three folders towards Hazel. "You should go through this and try to summarize it; it's a lot for me."
"Also, I have a conference to attend. They say Coyle Anderson will be present, so I will try to have a conversation with him." Mia had a bright smile when she mentioned Coyle Anderson.
"Coyle Anderson?" Hazel asked, thinking she didn't hear her right.
"Hmm, for the past week I have been trying to fix an appointment with him, but it's impossible. So I will attend the conference and find a way to talk to him," Mia explained.
"So you are going to stalk him? And why do we need Coyle Anderson? Isn't he in a different line of business?" Hazel asked, confusedly. Shouldn't Mia be trying to link up with influential brand owners, or did they need an investor?
"Don't be stupid, Hazel; does my life revolve just around work?" She snorted and stood up, walking to the shelf, which displayed all the many awards she had achieved at such an early age.
"I feel I have accomplished a lot, and I deserve the best. I deserve the best man in the country, and that's Coyle Anderson, so I will be his wife." Mia had a determined and excited look; she walked towards Hazel and asked.
"Do you have doubts that I can be his wife?"
Hazel nodded before she whiffed her head in denial. "But... they say he is a living corpse; he might not be the best." Hazel was trying to change Mia's mind from going after her husband.
Mia clicked her tongue and placed her hand on Hazel's shoulders. "Only idiots believe what they see on the news; well, I have a smart secretary who will make my wish possible, right?"
Hazel shrugged her shoulders. How was she supposed to make her wish possible? She wasn't some magician or in the right position to help.
It was 6 p.m. when Hazel returned home with Josh after she went grocery shopping after work; she was still at the entrance when the maid hurried to her."Mrs. Anderson" Sharon stopped her from going in while Josh walked in with the bag of groceries."What happened?" Hazel could sense something was wrong."I am sorry, but I let a lady in; she claimed to be your sister." Sharon apologized, and Hazel's face darkened. Why did Nady have to show up here?Hazel was so angry right now and was boiling with rage, but she knew she couldn't let it out on the poor maid. "It's okay, thanks," she smiled at Sharon and went to the sitting room, where she found Nady on the couch, her right leg crossed on the left as she gently swirled her coffee."Hazel," Nady called out happily. She knew Hazel ended work at 5 p.m., so she showed up at 5:30 p.m.Hazel clenched her fist tightly and glared at Nady. "What are you doing here?" she asked, and Nady rolled her eyes."Chill, okay, look at how big this house is
Hazel stared at her reflection in the mirror; she was dressed in a simple white gown and held her hair in a pony. Now she felt bad for not buying a gift for the family. "If he had told me that we were attending the dinner, then I would have obviously gotten a gift," she thought. A figure appeared behind her."Mr. And..." She paused her lips; he approached her and stared at her reflection in the mirror."Hmm," Coyle took out the hairband holding Hazel's hair as her long hair fell down her shoulders."Let's go," he said, and she nodded and flipped some strands of her hair behind her ears. They both walked downstairs, and the driver pulled the car door open before they got in; during the ride, Hazel's gaze was out of the window. She wasn't staring at anything in particular or enjoying the night view; she just didn't want her eyes to meet with those of Coyle's.Coyle dipped his hand in his suit and took out a box. "Here," he shoved it to Hazel, who stared at it in disbelief."Did he get m
After the Anderson family was done with dinner, they moved to the patio per Muna's order. She just wanted to see her family happy before the heavens finally call upon her.A maid walked towards them with glasses and a bottle of wine. "Did you get water or soft drinks for my dear cousin?" Arthur's son, who was two years older than Coyle, asked, and the maid shook her head."Sorry, sir, I will go get it now.""No need" Coyle chimed in; he didn't want to toast to whatever they were about to toast to."You see Hazel, Coyle is allergic to wine." Arthur's son, Damon, added, and Hazel couldn't believe it. Can someone even be allergic to wine? She stared at Coyle, who didn't confirm what Damon said: "So whenever you feel like going out for a drink, then hit me up. I will make sure to take good care of you." Damon added, and Coyle glared at him before Damon burst out in laughter."What's that look, brother? I am just kidding," he laughed, and Arthur pointed at the bottle of wine."You should p
Hazel suddenly felt thirsty; she filled a glass of water and drank it at once. Coyle got his answer from her expression.“Well, it doesn't matter now, does it?” Coyle asked, and Hazel’s gaze was on her toes. Did she still think of Max Wilson?“I don't care about him,” she muttered. He hadn't crossed her mind ever since she got married.**Meanwhile, it was already 10 a.m., and the big central hall was decorated so professionally—glass prestigious chairs, the big long table on the stage, and also businessmen who shared a conversation amongst each other.Jude explained to the CEO of TradTech, Mr. Sim, that Coyle couldn't show up because of some emergencies; however, he was here to represent Coyle.“Mr. Anderson must be a very busy man; he never shows up.” Mr. Sim chuckled, and Jude nodded apologetically.“He told me to send him an email of everything that goes on here; it proves he is very interested in this conference,” Jude explained, and this made Mr. Sim happy; he was building a ver
Coyle was in a meeting when his phone chimed a new message. Everyone’s attention moved to him as he read the message with a smile on his face. They all had curious looks at why he was smiling. “I need to have lunch,” Coyle said. He stood up and walked back to his office, where he found Jude by the window having a phone call.“When you are done, order some food." Coyle said, and Jude stared at him in disbelief, since when did he order food?“Is your wife coming to the office?” Jude asked curiously, but Coyle shook his head in denial.Jude ended the call and ordered some food before he sat opposite Coyle. “I attended the conference.”Coyle nodded before he typed a message to Hazel [I am about to, and you?].“It sounds promising,” Jude said, and Coyle dropped his phone before he asked.“So how much do we get as profit if we invest $10 million?”Jude shrugged his shoulders; the organizers didn't talk about the business aspect at all, and that’s what had annoyed him; he knew that’s exactly
The next morning, Hazel made breakfast for Coyle before 5 a.m. and waited for him downstairs. He sighed heavily; he had told her not to do that anymore. “Good morning,” she smiled at him, and he nodded and sat down.“From tomorrow, I will leave for work at 8am... So don’t wake up early again, okay?” He questioned, and she nodded; she just felt it wouldn't be right to let him leave for work without eating.Once he was done, he opted to drop her by her workplace. "But I have work at 8am,” she explained, and a better idea came to his mind.“Then we will drop by my office first; go freshen up fast.” Hazel wondered why they would stop at his office; she didn't have any business there, but she didn't want to sound disrespectful. She got freshened up and returned downstairs. “I am ready.”They both got to his car before the driver took off; during the ride, Coyle was busy reading some articles when Hazel’s phone rang.Hazel checked the caller, and it was Max; she never expected that he woul
"Hello, I am here to meet Mr. Sim." Mia said to the receptionist, who raised a brow confused, Do they just see anyone that easily?“Do you have an appointment?” the receptionist asked, and Mia rolled her eyes.“Of course, I won't just come here without an appointment." Mia snorted before she turned towards Hazel. “You had booked the appointment; tell her.”Hazel raised a brow. When did she book an appointment? Mia feigned a shocked look before she turned to the receptionist. “I don't want to believe my secretary didn't set an appointment; go on and check the appointment at 9 a.m.”The receptionist nodded and checked some information on the computer for a while before he stared at them. “Mrs. Drake?”Mia sighed heavily in relief before she turned to Hazel. “You are very lucky you booked an appointment, or else you would have lost your job,” she scolded, and Hazel was still in a lost state.“Please take the elevator to the second floor,” the receptionist explained before Mia hurried to
Max looked nervous but had to try to hide it. "I just wanted to say hello. I will leave now." Max took this opportunity to flee before it was too late."He wanted to..." Hazel was explaining when Coyle raised his hand, signifying that he didn't want to hear it; he trusted her and didn't need her to explain every one of her actions.Hazel's phone chimed a new message, and she checked to find it was a message from Mia, which read.[You should head back to the office; I have some affairs to handle with Coyle Anderson.]Her gaze moved to Coyle, who was busy on his phone; their gaze met before she glanced away."Are you angry that I took you away from work?" he asked, and she shook her head; she wasn't angry at all.Coyle stood up before he said, "Let's go; I will drop you off at work."Hazel didn't argue and followed him. Minutes later, she was back at the office and decided to summarize the documents Mia had given her, but she kept checking the time and Mia still wasn't back. This left h
