It is always said that there can never be a secret between two people. Years after Sierra’s death, I had never found out who carried the actual shooting. My efforts had been hindered by an unsupportive husband, but I always suspected that Mary had a hand in the killing. I couldn’t prove it, though, and I later discovered that it had been a well-orchestrated plan between Mary and her husband.
“You aren’t happy as you always are. Didn’t your mistress give it to you today?” Mary had asked her husband one evening when he went back home. He hadn’t wanted to talk to her, but she had pressed on and on until he didn’t have an option but to tell her that Sierra had demanded a marriage.
“What do you intend to do about her?” Mary asked while looking at me curiously.
“Nothing. I just don’t know how to tell her that her desire won’t be possible,” I replied before sighing helplessly.
