Jimmy shook his head, then he insisted, “I don’t know what you were talking about. I never borrowed many from him.”

“No! He borrowed money, and he told me it was for Fred’s medication!” Mary was already in tears at that moment.

“I know it’s a lot to take in, but what I am telling you is the truth. The earlier you believe it, the better,” Jimmy said softly but seriously while looking at her directly.

If Jimmy was honest, she was in trouble.

She had borrowed the cash she had sent Arlan promising to refund the amount in two weeks, a deadline that had lapsed. He had to be right. Why would he lie against Arlan?

He didn’t stand to gain anything, and he didn’t seem to be joking. He would have told Mary he had just been pulling her leg.
