“How did you know I had the dog here?”

“I saw you taking it out of the alley, honestly. If you hadn’t arrived before me, I would have grabbed it myself.”

Cali smiled in total defeat.

Mr. Timothy then reached out and then held her shoulder. He was looking at her when he spoke with a small smile, “You did the right thing. Even though you are terrible at hiding things, you still have the dog food right there.”

Cali was still not sure what happened, but one thing was for sure, at least Mr. Timothy was not mad at her, right?

With her confused expression, Mr. Timothy laughed, and then he pointed to the place in her apartment where she had forgotten the dog food.

“Good job. Next time you talk to me, it will be easier,” he said teasingly.

And smiling, he withdrew. That was a sign to learn that not everything is what it seems.

Cali was shocked, and everything that had happened today drastically changed her perspective.
