When I opened the door, I could feel the old scents, the fights, as well as the fights with dad being drunk.
“Who’s there?” I could hear in the background while the cheap whiskey smell went into the nose.
“It’s me, dad.”
“Joshy?” I could hear how things fell in the background, I closed the door, and little by little, I went closer to the room. I could see my father trying to lift off the ground between many garbage bags, as well as many bottles of various alcohols.
I remembered the times I had to help dad walk to the room. I felt like those memories weighed on my chest.
Slowly dodging the garbage, I got closer to Dad, put a hand on his shoulder while my other handheld his arm.
“I’m back.” I could see how dad looked at me with great sadness while leaning on me to get up. When he finally got to his feet, he lunged at me, hugging me with the little strength he had left. “Jo
I was at the bus stop. In the distance, I could see how Frank was walking, but the funny thing is that he came with another girl, although... it seemed slightly familiar.“Come here, big boy.” Frank came over to me and gave me a big hug.“Hi, Frank... let me go. I can’t breathe.”“Oh, sorry.” When I caught my breath, I got a closer look at the girl.A fair-skinned girl, with short black hair and brown eyes, for a moment, I was distracted by the image of her. Suddenly Frank was between her and me.“Ahem, you may not remember her, but she is-”“I can introduce myself Frank, nice to meet Josh. I’m Marcy.” She said as she made Frank a sided as she extended her hand to me.Slowly I was extending my hand to hers, without thinking much closer her hand to mine until she clasped it tightly.“Yes... a pleasure,” I said, between nervous and scared. I had n
I just sighed and decided to get out of there. He needed to breathe some fresh air. Upon leaving, I could see that the night was beginning to cover the sky.“You don’t like slow movies, Josh?” I was a little startled. I hadn’t noticed Marcy’s presence. Seeing her with melancholic eyes, I calmed down. I approached her and looked up at the night sky.“I guess Stuart’s charm didn’t dazzle us.” I chuckled.“Yes... Can I ask you a question?”“An answer.” She looked at me uneasily. She seemed to be deliberating what would be the exact words for the occasion.“Why did you come back? Frank… he told me that your relationship with your dad is not the best.” I looked at her suspiciously. On her part, she tried to put the most sincere look so that I would not be contained, and apparently, she really wanted to know the reason for my actions.“Because we
“Well, come on, I’ll take you, girls, wait for me.”I approached Marcy, with a smile, approached me and gave me a kiss on the cheek, while she whispered to me, “we’ll see each other soon, handsome.” I tried to put my more stoic expression. I knew that if Frank got found out of the “little” adventure, he was going to be very upset. After that, I said goodbye to Melanie. As we walked down the hall to the exit door, I could see Mr. Greg in the kitchen. I gestured for Frank to wait for me.“Thank you for everything, Mr. Greg.” Greg looked at me with some reverie, noticing my presence. He came out of his strange trance.“It is always a pleasure to have you around here, Josh, and you know that if anything happens, you can count on us.”“Thank you, seriously.” He just smiled as he returned to concentrating on what he had on the table. When we got into the car, Frank
“Well, when I returned home, Vincent had gotten drunk and shoveled my aunt Natalie with bottles. It was an unpleasant surprise to find her head open and full of blood… “Suddenly, I felt her hug me tightly.“Sorry, Josh...”“Thanks...”I felt lighter. After talking with Marcy, despite everything, it was not a bad girl. We were talking for a few hours, and she told me a little about her life in school. Her mother had thought of enrolling her in an all-boys school. It happened to have just changed the administration, and she was starting to be a coeducational school. Still, what was her surprise? She was the only girl who signed up that year.As on more than one occasion, she had to fight with other boys who, in one way or another, had always tried to overstep with her.I couldn’t help but laugh, and she hadn’t been so amused. Yes, after that, she hit my shoulder. I couldn’t move it f
My aunt was still the same, she had not gotten any improvement, and she was still in a coma prostrated in that bed. I really wish I could heal her somehow, but no one had that kind of power. I really felt horrible those days, but Marcy’s company helped me a lot to surpass it.It was Sunday. I got up at 6am. As usual, I followed my usual ritual, got up, made my bed, brushed my teeth, bathed in cold water, and then had breakfast. Always in the same order as a kind of ritual. Today was a special day.I was supposed to meet Marcy at the downtown mall to watch a movie. But first, as usual, I would go see Natalie. When I got to that room, I could see how Natalie was prostrated in that bed, with her eyes closed. Unfortunately for me, as usual, already three weeks passed, and she still didn’t open her eyes. I couldn’t help but think that she was the only thing that was left to me. She was the only person in my family alive. Vincent and Maria dea
Upon returning to the hospital, I talk to Nati, explained the situation to her, and agreed with me. She wouldn’t mind taking a brat with her, and she said as she laughed.“But maybe you should talk to her.”“Maybe I should... but right now, I really don’t want to.”“I understand, but before you make any decision, take your time to think about it. I still have some more time here. The doctor still wants to do me a who knows what of the head, so use that time to reflect.”I just smiled, walked over to her, and gave her a kiss on her forehead. As I left the hospital, I could see Marcy waiting, anxious with her blank stare.“Josh...” When I saw her I only felt sadness, while I saw how her eyes were red, I noticed that she had been crying for a long time.“Hello,” I said without encouragement. I wanted to do so many things. I wanted to scream, I wanted to cry, but at t
It is 2:30 pm on Wednesday. Diana Turquoise is sited in her office clearing up her tasks for the day. Her phone rings, and she is summoned to the office of the General Manager. Diana has been working at clean Chilies Company for the last five years since her graduation. ‘’Come in, Miss Turquoise,” John said. ''Thank you, sir,” Diana responds. Mr. John then asks Diana to sit on the chair opposite him. ''as you know, there have been ongoing promotions in the company over the last two months, and I am aware that you also interviewed for a promotion. Due to the high cost in terms of salary increment involved when it comes to promotion, I would like to let you know that very few qualified for promotions. Many factors were put into consideration before settling on the exactly qualified personnel."John said. Diana felt her heart stop racing. In the 5 years, she had worked at the company, she was known to be very thorough and dedicated at her work. Sh
''My name is Jacob. Your friend here tells me you twisted your ankle and would like a massage,'' the man said in a husky voice. ‘’ I do,’’ Diana replied. ''Why have I never known about this spa? Your services are top-notch. If I had people to recommend, I would,'' Diana says to Jacop. He goes on doing his work as if he didn’t hear her prompting Diana to question him once again. ''Well, it is because you never have interests in other people. I know it sounds weird, but I have had from the grapevine that you rarely interact with your coworkers outside work. With such an attitude, you cannot know about what happens around you, ''Jacop whispers into her ears. ‘’I see. If interacting with other people means getting to discuss others behind their back, I do not want any part of it. Thank you,’’ Diana sarcastically replies. ''It doesn't matter. You now know this place, and you can come by anytime for our services. I will give you my bus
She knew she was. She made heads turn, and her presence alone could make even the strongest man weak to his knees. Single men, dating, married, poor or rich all wanted her, but she went for Paul thinking he was the saint he portrayed himself to be.She could have said no, but she was confused. He might change, she thought, but now he wasn’t going to.He proved that over and over again. Dorothy got tired but didn’t know how to break up with him, and she was grateful he was finally gone, although she didn’t like the circumstances surrounding that fact.“Here is your tea,” she said as she placed the cup of tea on the table before Aston in his studio. She took a few sips of hers before placing her cup on the table too. “The weather outside is beautiful today.”“Yes. Yes, it is,” Aston confirmed, although his eyes never left Dorothy. “How about we go somewhere else while this dries?” he suggested.“Sure.”Together with their teas in their hands, they walked out of the studio. Instinctively
Stella observed the interaction between the two, and once again, she knew she had lost Aston to Dorothy because he never looked at her the way he was looking at Dorothy, and that spoke volumes.Stella stood up and straightened out her dress.“I’ll check on you later, Aston, and nice to meet you, Dorothy,” she said with a smile and walked towards Steve. They bid each other farewell, and she left the room.Steve sat down in the chair Stella had just left vacant, crossing his arms over his chest again. He said with a strange emotion in his voice, “You mentioned something about you thinking Paul would change. Has he done something like this before?”Dorothy let out a heavy sigh before replying, “Yes. Yes, he has. Many times.”“Will you be able to testify against him in court?” Aston asked as calmly as he could.“Yes, I will. I think I’ve had enough of him,” she finalized.“Well, I admire your courage, my lady,” Steve commended, further encouraging Dorothy. “By the way, did you meet the pa
‘’We caught this young woman trying to force her way into the ward, and we suspect she might be part of the paparazzi,” the first police officer answered.Steve observed Dorothy noting that she looked familiar then he remembered her. ‘It’s fine, boys. Let her through. The police officers released her arms, and Dorothy threw them a disdainful look, then sent a grateful one Steve’s way.He opened the door for her, and she walked in, thanking Steve with a smile.Steve closed the door with a gentle click and faced Dorothy. “He’s right this way. I’m not supposed to say this, Dorothy, but he’s been expecting you.”Expecting her? Did he want to see her? Did this have something to do with her, or did he just want to see her? She wished it was the latter.Wait, this is Steve, Aston’s best friend and the owner of ‘From Our Hearts’ gallery, but how did he know her?Steve seemed to sense her conflicting thoughts. He sighed and then said, “I can assure you that there’s nothing to fret about, and w
She opened her eyes and brought her fingers up to see them coated with her juices— and Aston hair she had been supposedly pulling happened to be her shower curtain. She just fantasized about Aston pleasuring, but it was better than anything she had ever had with Paul, and the best part —she didn’t regret it.She wanted more of it. She wanted to make it real, so much that she was started to became inpatient and frustrated. The reality of her situation dawned on her when she got out of the shower. She stared at the ring on her finger, and for the first time, she felt trapped. The ring became heavy on her finger, and it began to feel like a heavy burden on her. She slipped the ring off her finger and placed it on the drawer bedside of the bed.Suddenly, she wasn’t sure she wanted to spend the rest of her life with Paul. She closed her eyes to picture Paul in her life as she had always done, but this time, Paul was replaced with Aston. And that moment, it became apparent to her that she w
Dorothy turned around to see Paul standing there, arms folded across his chest and his eyes shooting daggers at Aston, who ignored him, by the way.“So I’ll call you and let you know how it goes, okay?” Aston asked while looking at Dorothy, who nodded excitedly like a kid.Aston smiled and then replied, “Bye Dorothy, and take care of yourself.”“Okay!. Bye Aston, and thanks for visiting. It really means a lot,” Dorothy said, as she walked him to the door.He stopped for a moment and took a look at Paul, who was still standing in the doorway.“And you too, Paul. It was nice to meet you,” she added, and with that, he walked out of their flat without waiting to hear Paul’s grunt of a response. Not wanting Paul to ruin her mood, Dorothy hopped past the grumpy Paul happily to their bedroom, humming a song. The only thing in her head was that her art was going to be at an exhibition– something she never expected to happen. For the rest of the day, Dorothy was in high spirits humming a favor
Dorothy turned around with a smile. “Hello Mr and Mrs Harris. Wonderful weather we have today, yeah?”“Absolutely,” Mrs. Harris chirped while Mr. Harris only nodded.“Let’s go in,” she said to Aston leading the way. “How do you like your tea?” Dorothy asked as they entered her flat, locking the door behind them.“Anything is fine, thank you,” he replied with a smileDorothy walked to the kitchen, and moments later, the sound of a kettle whistling was heard, followed by cabinets opening and closing.Aston took this time to observe the interior decor of the flat. It was an average-sized flat with clean white walls decorated with prints of beautiful paintings.Different artifacts, frames, flower vases, and books sat well arranged on the shelf.Wine-colored drapes framed the windows, and the inner lace curtains remained drawn, allowing the sun rays to enter, casting a golden sheen into the living room. The decor was simple yet beautiful and welcoming. This reminded Aston of the typical co
“Oh, thank you so much. You have no idea how much this means to me. And believe me, when I say coming from you means so much more,” she said.“I thought I was doing horribly, so I stopped painting for a while. I only began painting again when I came across your works in a gallery. I was in awe of hyperrealism. It was magnificent, and I knew I wanted to know how to paint like you,” she explained excitedly. “Meeting you here might be the best thing that has happened to me this year.”It was Aston’s turn to feel flattered, and he did ever so much. He had received a lot of compliments, but in a weird way, Dorothy appreciating his art made him feel he did something for someone, and it made him feel good.“I’m sure you’ll learn a lot from this class, and I can give you pointers if you want.”“You know I didn’t exactly enroll for this class. Mrs. Michael is my aunt, and she just allows me to join in and last week was my second time here.”“That makes sense. I didn’t think you paint. I though
For heaven’s sake, he wasn’t some teenager going through hormonal changes, so why couldn’t he stop thinking about Dorothy’s body and, even worse, smiling and blushing at the memory.‘’I guess we can now deduce my idea wasn’t laced with foolishness after all,’ Steve said with the smug look still on his faceAston scoffed, rolling his eyes at him, and said, “Don’t get ahead of yourself. I am still not convinced the class will do me any good.”“We’ll see about that, mate. We’ll see.”The whole weekend felt like torture to Aston. He longed to see Dorothy again, and it seemed the weekend was taking too long to end.Everything was confusing to him; what he was feeling about Dorothy and why he was feeling that way didn’t make any sense to him, but he just wanted to see her again. When Monday finally came, Aston could hardly wait till 3 pm when classes started, and by 12 pm, he was already at the building waiting for Dorothy to show up, but she didn’t.Class started, and she was still nowhere
In one swift moment, a bang was heard, and the whole dining table came crashing down, sending a wave of shock throw Dorothy. She had seen this happen so many times, but she could never get used to it. He promised to change. He said he was going to be better, but after two years and nothing had changed. The last time, it was the TV that suffered it, which took a while to replace, and now, the dining table had also felt the impact of Paul’s fist. The table was ruined; dinner was ruined too.“You love being a whore, eh? You love letting different men run their hands all over your body under the guise of art, right?” He barked the vile words pacing the dining room. The words made her feel she had just been prickled with over a hundred pins.“I am not a whore, Paul!. I am not! I love art, and you know it!” She yelled at him.He scoffed before he said, “Oh c’mon. You’re just using art as a cover-up. You enjoy the way these so-called artists of yours touch you.”He then grabbed her shoulder
