Raya's POV
"I'm so sorry, Raya. I wanted you to know the truth, but I literally couldn't tell you myself. You had to find out for yourself. I thought taking you to this party would be my way of getting you to discover that humans aren't the only creatures on this earth. I didn't think that every fucking vampire there would want to eat you. They're not usually so drawn to a human. They like to feed on powerful beings and enjoy a good witch best. I thought they'd be more focused on me."
Amaya, feeling guilty, couldn't help but blurt out her thoughts a mile a minute. The words tumbled out of her mouth, overwhelming me with the flood of information, I was having a hard time processing it. I couldn't understand what she was trying to tell me exactly.
"Amaya, I don't understand what you're talking about, and my head hurts too much to figure it out. I'm going to need you to explain in 10 words or fewer, please." I rubbed at my temples, hoping to relieve some of this headache.
"Right, let me start at the beginning," she said, dragging a chair over by the bed. "I'm a witch, a spell casting, potion making witch. We're trained by our coven after high school. That's why I didn't go to the same college as you, Raya. Anyway, after 4 years of training we hold a graduation ceremony where we show our skills to all alphas in a pack in need of a witch. From there the alphas put in for which witch they want, and then we can decide which pack we go to if we get multiple offers. I had a few, so I chose this pack because they were closest to you. Plus the pack itself has a unique ability that I liked."
Everything Amaya was telling me was so overwhelming. Not only were vampires real, but werewolves and witches now, too. Countless questions raced through my mind, yet I found myself struggling to utter a single one. Amaya stared at me, patiently waiting for me to say something. I could see the worry on her face with her lowered eyebrows and downturned lips. Seeing her concern kick started my brain again.
"First, let me start by saying you're still my best friend, Amaya, no matter what you are. I hate that you kept this from me for so long. But I'm confused. What is an alpha in werewolf terms? Why am I now a prisoner of sorts? What unique ability? Explain packs and pack lands to me. I'm so unbelievably lost right now, and I just want to understand. You know I hate when I don't know what's going on."
"Oh, Raya. I am so sorry. I fucked up. You weren't supposed to be at the party, I just wanted you to figure out what I was. I couldn't tell you myself growing up, or I would have lost my magic. I thought I would be able to tell you once I turned 18, but then the academy spell-bound us, so we couldn't speak of it or our powers to anyone. They lifted it when I graduated, but then Cruz alpha-ordered me not to say anything to you, so I couldn't. I took you to the party in hopes you'd piece everything together, but I never thought you would be attacked." Amaya fidgeted with the side of her nail, her eyes cast downward with a tinge of guilt. "An Alpha is like a king of sorts. He is the ruler of the pack. His wolf is the strongest and his commands are unbreakable if given in his alpha voice. A pack is a group of werewolves that are under the protection of their Alpha. They live on pack lands, which is the land owned by the Alpha with its own perimeter. This pack has the unique ability to control moonlight. It gives them extra strength as their wolves pull their power from the moon."
"I think I understand, but I still don't understand why I am a prisoner now. No offense, glad you didn’t get in trouble, but shouldn’t you be the one in my position? What did I do wrong?” I rubbed at my forehead more, feeling like my skull would burst open at any moment, exposing my brains to the world.
“You’re human, and as a human, he feels we can’t trust you. Humans tend to want to share that werewolves exist, and that’s not something they want getting out. Cruz worries that you will spill our secret even if no one would believe you. He isn’t worried about other humans really, he’s worried that another werewolf will hear you talking about this place and ask you where it is. Our Alpha is worried that you would get us all attacked, and as the man in charge of taking care of everyone here, he has to make sure that doesn’t happen.”
“I’m not going to tell anyone, not trying to get institutionalized over here. I can’t stay here. He’s not any ruler of mine.” I argued, a raging fire consuming me in the face of this entire situation. There was no way I would be held captive in some unfamiliar place, surrounded by people I knew nothing about. I was determined to put up a fight about this.
“I’ll talk to him, Raya. Maybe after he gets to know you, he will let you go. Be patient, okay? Trust me.”
I let out a sigh, feeling annoyed, but when I looked into Amaya’s eyes and saw how scared she was for me, I shut up. With a subtle nod, I closed my eyes once more, hoping that a brief moment of rest would bring some relief. The sound of Amaya milling about the room caught my attention, her familiar hum filled the air as she moved about. Her taste in music always intrigued me, spanning across various genres. At that moment, she hummed a song by Fever Ray, if I recall correctly, "Even It Out".
I jumped as I felt her hands touch the tender area on my head. Something cold was pressed against it, but just as quickly as the pain of her touch came, it was gone. In fact, all of my pain had miraculously vanished. Blinking my eyes open, I found Amaya wearing a proud grin as she removed a red crystal from my head. She then passed me a damp rag, which I used to try to wash away the dried blood and hopefully loosen my hair from my head.
“What did you do?” I asked her, taking strands of my blonde hair stained with blood and running the rag over them.
“I healed you. It’s the one thing I can do for you, now that you know what I am. Granted, I can do more than only heal, but I will ease you into everything else.” She flashed me an arrogant smirk, the type she typically wore when she possessed unwavering confidence in her abilities.
“Thanks.”
I loved Amaya, I truly did, and her being a witch didn't change that. She was my oldest and closest friend. However, at that moment, there was an undeniable tension in the air between us. I was certain she could feel it too, given how awkwardly we were behaving around each other. A part of me was furious with her for keeping this secret, while another part understood that she had no control over the circumstances. I found myself battling the side of me that wanted to lose my temper with my best friend for taking us to a dangerous party that ultimately led to this situation. Frustration overwhelmed me as I groaned, attempting in vain to remove the blood from my hair. It was clear that a wet rag wouldn't cut it.
“Here, you can borrow these and I’ll take you to the showers. I am sure you’re ready to get out of that leather dress,” she said, handing me a loose band T and some joggers.
“With everything going on, I honestly forgot about this stupid dress.” I picked at the fabric while I spoke, wondering how this dress could have been my biggest concern at the start of the evening.
Amaya led me out of her room, down a long corridor. I marveled at the beauty of the place I had missed when I was brought in. The entire place seemed to radiate brightness, thanks to the white walls and marbled floors. The ceilings soared high above, only making me feel shorter than I already was. With each step, my heels clicked against the floor as I tried to stay as close to Amaya as possible, acutely aware of the prying gazes from those around us. I know nothing about werewolf customs, but I figured it best to avoid eye contact. What if they interpreted it as a challenge or something?
Amaya finally stopped in, gesturing for me to enter through the small door on the left. This wasn’t a bathroom, it was a damn bathhouse, a luxurious haven. In the center was a magnificent pool made of bronzed marble. Adorning the walls were a series of silver shower heads for rinsing off. Soft ambient lighting and a delightful fragrance filled the air, creating an atmosphere of pure relaxation and indulgence. It was undeniably beautiful. However, a sudden realization struck me: there were no private stalls here, nowhere to shower without being seen. Horror washed over me, and as I turned to Amaya, she seemed to comprehend my worry without a single word needing to be said.
“It’s okay, Raya. It took me a little while to get used to it too, but no one here is going to think twice about it. They are used to seeing everyone naked, since they lose their clothes in a shift. You’re going to be seeing a lot more shlongs, tits, and vages than you’d like,” she informed me, laughing at my mortification.
“Amaya!” I playfully slapped her arms, feeling my face flush with embarrassment.
“Go shower. I’ll try to make sure no one comes in, but be quick. A lot of people live in this house.”
I didn’t waste any time, peeling the small leather dress from my skin, and exposing my pale white skin. I neatly placed my dirty clothes in a dry area and washed off under one of the many shower heads. The bath in the center called to me, but I knew I had no time for relaxation without being exposed to others and vice versa. Once I felt sufficiently clean and refreshed, I dressed in the clothes Amaya had lent me. There was no bra, as she and I had different body types. Where I lacked in height I made up for in breast mass, the universe must have thought it would be hilarious for me to be short and have large breasts.
“Chill the fuck out, Tora. You can wait like 5 more minutes,” I heard Amaya biting someone’s head off. I tapped her on the shoulder to let her know I was there, and done. “There see, all yours now.” Amaya stepped to the side allowing a tall, well toned woman with bright red hair, and piercing green eyes to pass through.
“I shouldn’t have to wait on some feeble human to shower. She’s not some kind of princess, worthless piece of trash.” Her final words were directed at me, causing me to withdraw further into myself. Typically, I would have responded with a witty comeback that would have caught her off guard. However, today was different. Knowing that everyone here was more powerful, I knew it would be better if I stayed silent.
“Say it again, I dare you.” Amaya stepped forward, shielding me by standing in front of me. With her head high, she squared her shoulders as if she were ready for battle. Tora's jaw tightened, her expression souring as she locked eyes with Amaya. However, she eventually turned away, biting her tongue and not saying a word. Amaya had always had a way of making others bow down to her will. I couldn't help but wonder if this was because of her abilities as a witch.
“You didn’t have to do that. She’s right. I am a feeble human who has no place being here.” I let out a heavy breath, leading the way out of the luxurious bathhouse.
“She didn’t say that last part. Besides, you’re plenty strong, you just need some training. I bet you could join the little wolves here and learn how to fight a little,” she suggested with a playful smirk.
“Are you teasing me, right now?”
“Maybe.” She shrugged. “Come with me. I want to talk to Cruz.”
“I don’t think he would be happy to see me. He looked pretty irritated when we first met.”
“That’s just because he was mad at me, not necessarily you. Anyway, if you ever want to leave here, we gotta get him to like you, so come on, and don’t worry.” I nodded in agreement, following her down another corridor that seemed like a maze. Despite the intricate layout, I quickly memorized the path, relying on my exceptional memory. It wasn't quite photographic, but it came close. After a few turns and a flight of stairs, we arrived at a set of grand, dark double doors that seemed out of place amidst the lighter aesthetic around it. Amaya didn’t bother knocking, walking in like she owned the palace. I stayed back, thinking this was not the right way to make a good impression. Keeping my head low, I lingered in the doorway, observing the scene cautiously.
“What do you want?” Cruz barked, making me almost jump with the fury in his tone.
"You can come in, you know," a sweet, young-looking guy with brown hair and a kind smile reassured me. His light brown eyes met mine, and I couldn't help but notice the little mole just above the wrinkle of his smile on his cheek. "Despite his fierce voice, he won't bite your head off. You smell really nice, calming even. Maybe if you stand close enough, he'll calm down." With a playful smirk, the guy, whom I no longer deemed as sweet, pushed me towards Cruz's desk.
Raya’s POVAs the unexpected force of the push caught me off guard, I stumbled, my feet tangling in the rug. A pair of strong arms caught me before I could hit the ground, sending my body tingling in a way I’d never experienced before. I found myself locking eyes with Dane, his golden gaze meeting mine, intensifying the heat of my blush. I am not as weak or clumsy as the universe seemed to have portrayed me tonight. I cleared my throat, standing up straight with a small nod of appreciation towards Dane.“Thank you,” I said bashfully.“Be more careful.” His annoyed tone irked me more than I cared to admit. It wasn't as if I had asked him to catch me. If it was such a problem, he could have just let me fall. Yet, despite my frustration, his hand resting on my stomach sent a surge of unfamiliar sensations through me. It was a feeling so strong, it called on me to turn around and kiss him with everything in me. The temptation was overwhelming, but I forcefully shoved that lustful desire
Dane’s POVAs I woke up this morning, I couldn't help but run through the events of last night in my head. Cruz had told me that he could smell Raya just as strongly as he would expect to scent his mate. It drew him in, but he insisted it wasn't a sexual attraction. Instead, her scent had a calming effect on him, something that made him uneasy considering he was supposed to be wary of her.I remembered the brief moment when I caught her, feeling her skin against mine. It sent a burning flame through me, making it difficult to pull away. I had left my hand on her for longer than I intended, unable to move away from her. And when she was sent out, I almost followed her, the pull to her was undeniable. But Lucian wasn't entirely convinced that she was truly our mate. He could feel a pull, but he wasn't sure what it meant. And according to Garret, he also felt a connection to her, but on a different level. The situation was filled with uncertainty and confusion, leaving us all wondering w
Raya’s POVCruz practically bit Garret's head off, his voice laced with frustration. "What do you mean she's your charge? This isn't funny, Garret. I already told you she's not my mate."Garret stood his ground, unfazed by Cruz's scowl and stern tone. He looked up at him with that carefree smile of his. "It's not a joke, Cruz. Amaya confirmed that we have a moon-bond, and it's not a mate bond. I can feel her, man. That pounding headache I had last night? It was her pain. I know she's not your mate, but that doesn't mean she isn't under my protection. Maybe you need another Gamma."I still didn’t understand this myself, but I knew it was real. I could feel Garret’s playful nature pulling at my own. It was like he was a part of me, like a friend I had grown up with all my life.Cruz let out a weary sigh, pinching the bridge of his nose as he sank back into his chair. Stress etched across his face, he closed his eyes, revealing a vulnerable side of him I had never seen before. It was lik
Raya’s POVI caught a whiff of mint on Garret's breath, its warmth gently tickling my face. His lips were just an inch away when a distinct growl echoed through the walls. In an instant, Garret straightened up, positioning himself in front of me as if to shield me from Dane, who was storming towards us, ready to unleash his fury."That's what you call behaving?" Dane barked, his fists clenched tightly by his side.Garret shrugged, acting like it was all child's play. "You see, we were doing a science experiment. Raya here has only been kissed five times, and each time she felt like puking. I thought maybe it was because they were all human. So, I was just helping her figure out if she'd feel the same way when kissed by a werewolf."I fell silent, utterly mortified that Dane had almost caught me locking lips with Garret. Dane's narrowed eyes shifted suspiciously towards me, a mix of anger and concern etched on his face. With lightning speed, he shoved Garret aside, grabbing me and pull
Dane’s POVIf there were a way to do it, I would have punched myself hard for having kissed Raya. I couldn’t stand the thought of Garret kissing her, so I took the opportunity from him. I didn’t expect to feel an intense hunger for her. It was somehow stronger than the one I had already been feeling. I wasn’t sure what was causing it, but it made me want to mark her, despite not knowing if she was truly my mate. I had to resist the urge to pull her in closer, to deepen the kiss, and instead I had to push her away. When I looked into her eyes and saw the tears welling up, my heart shattered. I had caused her pain, not Garret. It was my fault, and I despised myself for losing control in that way. I may be a werewolf, but I am not some mindless beast.‘She seemed to like it.’ Lucian tried to excuse the action, but his words only caused me further irritation.‘Then why was she crying?’ My mood was palatable and clearly read on my face as the pack members moved out of my way the moment th
Raya's POV"It's stunning, Raya. You're extremely talented," he told me with utter sincerity. That's when I finally decided to pry my eyes away from my paper and towards him. My cheeks stained crimson as I let my eyes wander over his naked body. He was sculpted beautifully, with well toned muscles that weren't overly exaggerated. He had that nice hard v that led to his groin with his legs intentionally covering most of that area so that I couldn't see his manhood well. I did, however, notice that he puffed his chest out proudly when he noticed me checking out. "Thanks," I finally said, looking back out towards the night sky. "It's really beautiful here." "That it is." I could feel his eyes fixed on me, boring into the side of my face as if he were unable to gaze at anything else. "I'm sorry about earlier," I said, remembering the way I threw myself at him during our kiss. "I should be the one apologizing, Raya. I shouldn't have kissed you like that. I am so sorry," he said, his he
Raya’s POV A sweet voice responded, "Come in." Cruz opened the door to reveal an elegant woman. Her long, thick, black hair was braided at her side, with a few gray strands peppered throughout. Her face lit up as she looked at Cruz, clear love shining in her eyes. I couldn't help but feel a pang of jealousy, longing for the same close family connection. "Mi vida, what brings you to see me at such a busy time?" her gentle, soothing voice inquired. "Hola Ma, I hope I'm not disturbing you.""Never, mijo," she shook her head. "What can I help you with?""This is Raya," he said, placing his hands on my shoulders and nudging me forward. Her dark eyes met mine, and her lips curved into a smile. "Your mate?" she asked, sounding hopeful. "No, Ma, she's the human I was telling you about. Amaya's friend.""Ay, si. Why did you want me to meet her?" Her smile faltered slightly at his response, but remained present. "Can you sense anything different when she's around? I have a feeli
Dane’s POV 'You shouldn't have left her,' Lucian scolded me, as if I had committed the worst offense imaginable. 'No, I had to. Don't think I didn't feel you extending our fangs out!' I snapped back, frustration seeping into my voice. 'Make up your mind, Lucian! Is she our mate, or isn't she?' 'I don't know. Don't you think this is frustrating for me too? All I know is that you should have kept her by our side. Instead, you sent her to that shameless Gamma who would be more than willing to do what you wouldn't,' Lucian retorted. In my desperate attempt to prevent accidentally marking her, I hadn't considered what a terrible idea it was to leave her alone with Garret. I knew their bond had already blurred the lines, but I had hoped it was improving. Cruz had mentioned how he explained the bond to Raya, and how Garret hadn't been constantly by her side anymore. But would he be so daring as to try to please her sexually? And would she let him? The mere thought of them together made m
Raya’s POV A heavy gush of hair left my lungs as my sweet child kicked me under the ribs once more. There was barely any room for him inside me now, and I still had another two weeks to go. Training has become increasingly hard, as being pregnant has somehow tripled my powers. I guess my body wants to protect our child just as much as my heart. “What have I told you about kicking your mother?” Dane jokingly scolded our child as he pointed to my stomach, as if he could understand. I laughed, loving every moment of seeing him be a dad. Dane has spoiled me rotten, never leaving my side, carrying me everywhere, bringing me everything. I couldn’t ask for a better king– for a better mate. In this world he is more than just a husband. He is part of my soul– my literal other half. “I’m ready for him to come out, but also not. I really feel like I have no idea what I am doing. What if I mess it all up? What if I can’t control my goddess magic while in labor?” These worries have been eatin
Raya’s POV Holding Dane’s hand, I dragged him out of the orgy that had apparently started and gave chase to Nessa. I wanted to know who it was that was mated to a woman like her. Who would be strong enough to handle her? She was fast as she ran through the field and into the castle. She paused at the center first floor with her nose in the air as she scented out her mate. When she caught the strong smell once more, she headed up the stairs. I began to realize where we were headed as she turned right at the corridor and then another left. When we reached his room, it suddenly made sense. I had seen that faint white line when they had first met, after all. I just didn’t realize what it was, and neither had they. She busted that door open without a care, entering without asking. Blake’s eyes bulged out of his head as he stared at a crazy looking Nessa. Her eyes were fiercely on him, like a cat in heat ready to pounce. She was not going to be taking no as an answer, so I really hope Bla
Raya’s POV I found Grandpa with Blake, messing with things in his room. It was almost as if we had two official wizard’s instead of just one. I realized with the curse gone, and Elliot dead, would Blake want to return to his old pack. That would be something I would leave up to him. Of course, I would miss him if he chose to leave, but I would also understand. Especially with Dad coming back, we would have 3 wizards in this pack, and somehow that feels against the rules. If there even are any for that. “I need to talk to you,” I told him as I approached him, giving him a hug before I continued. With everything going on, I had yet to tell him the news about Dad. I was giddy with excitement, ready to just blurt it out. “You’ve got my attention, pumpkin.” “I had a meeting this morning with a group of gods called the Gilded Enforcers.” “The Gilded Enforcers?!” Grandpa’s eyes shot wide, seeming to know exactly who I was talking about. “Are you okay? Are you being punished? What hap
Raya’s POVI watched as Amaya tried to process everything that had just been told to her. She took a step back as she does when she needs a second longer to think. Her eyes scanned over Hunter cautiously, taking in every little feature. She was studying him, studying her mate. Finally, after about 5 minutes, she walked towards Hunter. I watched as my poor new friend stood against my oldest friend. He was scared. I could feel it from where I stood. “You’re a wizard?” Her tone was laced with deep disbelief, even though I had confirmed his story. Amaya wasn’t quick to trust, especially not someone she previously disliked. “I am.” Hunter nodded, his posture slouching slightly under her gaze. She was tearing this poor new Alpha down in a matter of seconds as she circled him, almost as if she were appraising me. “Show me,” she demanded, holding her chin as she continued to analyze him. “I don’t really know how without hurting something.” “Come with me.” Amaya grabbed his hand, causing
Hunter’s POVI tried to find Amaya last night, to tell her who I was to her. I knew witches didn’t have mates, at least not normally. Most chose a wizard to be with so that their children could still have magic. In rare instances a wolf would be mated to a witch, but in most of those cases, the witch would reject them, not wanting to lose the magic they could pass down to their children. I could understand that, but this would be different. I am not only a werewolf but a wizard, and as such, Amaya and I could have children that would still be able to have magic. She wouldn’t have to give anything up to be with me, at least nothing except the Lunaris Pack.My heart clenched at the thought of her rejecting me. I knew she hated the Eclipse Moon Pack with a passion. Without her feeling the mate bon
Raya’s POVI awoke to the sound of a light humming. It called to me like a siren in the night, leading me in a trance down the hall and away from my sleeping mate. Standing in front of a room with a black door speckled in white, I slowly opened the door, unsure of what I would find. There stood three large figures in gold, each one with their own intimidating presence. Their eerie eyes scanned over me as if I were nothing more than an ant in their wake. In front of them stood my mother alongside my father. I knew not who these large figures were, but I knew they were important.“Come inside, daughter of Selene. Your presence is required for us to proceed,” the man in the middle spoke. He was taller than the other two by a few inches. His gold skin shone as if he were painted in golden glitter. His hair was no different, spar
Dane’s POVThe fight that felt like it had taken days to finish, was finally over. Raya was safe and in my arms once more as we stared out onto the bloody field. I knew we had a lot to clean up, but for just a minute I was able to hold Raya close. The effects of the necklace that Blake had gifted me before the fight were starting to wear off, causing me to feel the insane need to be wrapped around my mate. She stared out at all the deceased, feeling their deaths deep in her soul. I knew it was affecting her greatly, especially Barrett’s.“Elliot is dead,” she whispered to me, revealing she wasn’t just hurting for Barrett. “We need to find Cruz, he’s hurt.”With just those words the need to consume her vanished, replaced by worry for the man I call my brother. We
Ch. 80Hunter’s POVI reached for Amaya, feeling myself be whisked away, but not wanting to leave her. My heart ached, wanting to tell her who she was to me. It was obvious she had no idea. I honestly wasn’t sure if witches had mates, or how any of that worked. Having just had so much of myself revealed to me, I wondered if she would accept a freak such as myself. The need to yell at Blake for taking me away from my mate was strong, only when we landed and my eyes fell on Elliot did that need stop.“Fuck me,” Blake said, letting out a breath of despair as he kneeled beside Elliot.I had never seen him so hurt before, not in all my life. Memories of us playing together, fighting one another, and growing strong alongside each other
Raya’s POVWe were whisked away into the galaxy as stars flitted about all around me. It was the most beautiful sight, but as I got closer to them, I realized they weren’t just stars. Each one had a name and they belonged to a witch or wizard, while others belonged to wolves. The stars were the magic that made every supernatural possible. They were the magic that wizards and witches yielded. The magic that helped werewolves shift. The magic that kept vampires alive. One in particular, a giant red star, called to me. I knew it to be mine as I approached its flickering light.“I thought you might be able to feel them all, but I wasn’t sure,” Dad said with a proud smile on his face. “This one is yours, go ahead and touch it.”My hands shook with nerves, unsure of what was about to happen
