Adam was angered and disgusted, a human ? His mate ? He hated humans a lot and found them to be very deceptive and cunning. Especially their ugly thoughts he sometimes listened to but he could not hear Emily’s thought only the frantic beating of her heart. She was attracted to him but how ? She was a pure human and humans don’t mate with werewolves, it was forbidden but how could she feel the connection ? He could smell her blood running down her veins and he wanted a taste of it. He could feel his fangs elongating and his wolf getting restless but he was able to tame it. She was so beautiful and had an intoxicating smell of a garden in spring. He had been preparing his whole life for this, he needed to kill her to stop the prophesy from being fulfilled but how could he do it when she affected him so much ? His wolf, Taren roared restlessly.

“Shut up”, he snapped at Taren in his head but Taren ignored him. Adam watched as Emily prepared the tea gently with smiles and it softened his heart but the smiles slowly turned to sadness and she became lost in thoughts and tears began rolling down her face and few entered the ristretto coffee she’d made for him, he winced as he saw the tears run down her smooth cheeks. Why was she crying ?Did he make her remember something she shouldn’t have ? Was he the cause ? How he hated the fact that she was affecting this much. It took a great deal of self control to stop himself from walking up to her and sweeping her into her arms, to dry her tears with his thumb and ask her what was wrong ?

What a scene that would create!! He thought and chuckled. Unfortunately he would have to kill her.

“Food goodness sake she’s your mate, Adam”

“And she’s our death, Taren”, he said calmly as he sipped his coffee

“And you’re just gonna kill her ?”

“And I will rip her heart out”, Adam replied in a composed manner making Taren almost go insane.

“Don’t you even try it, Adam”, Taren growled.

“Besides we are soon getting married to Terah, she’s wonderful and strong enough as a Luna”, Adam said his eyes still fixed on Emily.

“You and I both know that you are not in anyway attracted to her”.

“Duty before desire, Taren”, he said and blocked his wolf, he could feel it’s anger.

As she walked towards him, the smell became stronger and he wanted to mark her right there and then, wanted to make her his but he tried to tame his orgy.

“Here it is, sir. The ristretto you ordered, I hope you’ll like it”, she said and smiled nervously. Those warm brown eyes like the shedding of trees in a cool breeze in autumn, they were hypnotizing. Her heart was beating so fast. He felt his hands curl up into fists, she was affecting him too much and he hated it. He looked at the ristretto, the scent was appealing and he badly wanted to take a sip but a devilish thought crawled into his mind.

“Don’t!”, Taren growled but he ignored his wolf

“It doesn’t really smell like a good Ristretto in the first place”, he said and rested well on the chair and placed his hands at the back of his head. He saw the embarrassment on her face and he felt his heart squeeze.

“Who taught you how to make this ? I bet the person wasn’t good”, he said. He felt a strong energy emanating from her and saw her hands clench and her eyes were stinging with tears but she tried to look unfazed.

“Besides, why would you serve me a ristretto in such a cheap demitasse, do I look like I fall in your caliber ?”, he said with a raised eyebrow.

Emily was more embarrassed looked at the cup quite disturbed, it was no ordinary demitasse, it was amongst one of the most expensive she had seen.

“Transfer it into a better demitasse that suits my status and it must not get cold”, he said sternly and with disgust. She slowly looked at him and he could see she was badly hurt. He hated himself immediately but he wasn’t going to back down.

“I’m sorry sir, I’ll have it changed right away”, she said calmly and she took it away. The angry energy that was emanating from her was replaced with a gentle and broken one. He closed his eyes trying to keep his thoughts and emotions at bay especially Taren.

Emily looked for a more expensive cup and transferred it there and served him again. Her heart rising with fear and he could see the worry on her face.

“Adam, please I can’t take it any longer”, Taren begged but he ignored him.

“Emily don’t you see that the color of the demitasse is the dullest ever ?”, he scolded.

“I want a brighter one”, he added and Emily blinked at him quite surprised.

“Do I need to repeat myself again”, he said.

“I’ll get on it sir”, she said and changed it again. She couldn’t possibly offend a mayor, the consequences could be dire.

As she brought the ristretto closer, she tripped on something and it poured on Adam’s expensive dress and his face.

Emily looked at him in horror and she was full of fear. She covered her mouth.

“Oh my God. I’m so sorry sir”, she said.

“Emily!!!”, Ma’am Daisy yelled at Emily as she walked towards Emily in anger and was about to give her a slap when Adam held her hand in anger.

She looked at him surprised and he let go of her hand.

“Is this the way you treat your employees ma’am Daisy ? If you had succeeded in hitting her I could withdraw my investment here and I’m sure you wouldn’t last long after I do that. It’s between the two of us, I didn’t call for an external party”, he said trying to control his anger. Ma’am Daisy apologized in shame and left.

Emily grabbed a napkin and began to dab his clothe and face in worry and fear.

“It’s all my fault, not ma’am Daisy’s. Please don’t withdraw your investment, I would gladly resign. I’m sorry I soaked your dress, I didn’t mean to “, she said and his heart broke. She was obviously a new employee and she was going to resign on her first day because of him. “Emily”, he called but she was busy muttering an apology.

“Emily”, he said sternly as he raised her face to his with his hand. A tear slipped down her face and fell on his palm. He felt this connection, this spark and her tears on his palm burned him. He badly wanted to lean and kiss her full lips but he shook the thought away as he let go of her chin.

“I love women and you interest me but you failed to impress me with the ristretto. Didn’t your tutor teach you well or you didn’t have enough equipment ? Then how did you win those contests ? Should I suspect a fowl play ?”.

Emily’s eyes widened with shock and everyone started murmuring, she looked around her and saw people looking at her suspiciously. She’d had enough.

“I won fair and square Mr. Mayor and I was taught by the best. I don’t use money or power to do whatsoever I like”, she said staring back in his face. He knew he was talking about him and her bravery amused him. He liked that.

“The person that taught me how to make the ristretto is my late father so please, don’t drag his name in the mud and I am definitely not one you can flirt with” , she said firmly.

“Emily!!”, ma’am Daisy yelled.

“I thought I made myself clear”, Adam said and shot daggers at ma’am Daisy.

“I love your bravery Emily, why don’t we make a deal ?”

“You come over to my house on Saturday and I increase my investment here and tip every staff here or you don’t come, I withdraw my investment here, this café closes down and because of you, others are rendered jobless”, he said and Emily looked at him uneasily.

“Your house Mr. Mayor ? I am not worthy”, she said.

“Of course you’re not but I would find a use for you. I give you three seconds and I’m very well serious”

“In…..one……two”

“I will come over to your house”, Emily said hastily. She couldn’t allow others suffer because of her .

“Good, just good”, he said and smirked and brought out a checkbook from his suitcase and wrote an amount and handed it over to ma’am Daisy to take her share and share it equally with the staff but he asked her not to give Emily, instead they would meet on Saturday .

“Don’t you dare kick Emily out of your café and if you treat her harshly…..”

“I won’t Mr. Mayor thank you so much”, she said gladly.

“My lawyer will come and settle everything about the investment I want to increase”, he said with a hint of finality.

He gave Emily a business card with his address and other info.

“Having Emily working here is a good luck for you, ma’am Daisy”, he said and looked at the confused Emily still holding the business card.

“Emily Harper, Saturday, 4:00 pm”.

Then I remembered what I saw yesterday. I tip-toed quietly to the window. There in the darkness, peering at me were a pair of green eyes and a figure silhouetted in the moonlight. I rubbed my eyes to make sure they weren’t playing pranks on me, then it was gone. I must have been hallucinating, I was really tired after all, yet the image was disturbing.I heard the sound again outside my door again and I dropped the pancakes in my hand. I grabbed a bat and slowly tip-toed towards the door
