The dimly lit bar, the smell of cheap booze and stale cigarette smoke invaded my nostrils as I downed another shot of whiskey. It burned its way down my throat, but it did nothing to calm the storm brewing inside me. This was supposed to be a relaxing evening to get my mind off Kailani being at the warrior tryouts until I caught sight of Kailani dancing with Noah.

Kailani had an effect on people, especially men. They swarmed around her, drawn in by her beauty and charm like moths to a flame. But they didn’t know her like I knew her. They didn’t know she had hurt her sister. They were all too blind to see her for what she really was: a little liar.

The bile rose in my throat, threatening to spill out, as I saw Noah lusting after her. I couldn’t help but intervene, but I only made a fool of myself. I knew I had to do something before I caused a scene. With a final scowl in their direction, I pushed my way through the crowded room, making my way toward the exit.
