SELENA’S POV

I wasn’t sure how long we had been walking, but the tension that had grown in the air was as suffocating as ever. The forest had been so quiet, the only sound coming from the crunch of leaves beneath our boots and the occasional rush of wind that sent chills down my spine. Sometimes, I even anticipated more assassins to attack us, but after the last one, we had been alone.

What was annoying the most was Kai’s sudden turn to a stoic alpha as he led the way.

“Are you sure we are even on the right path?” I asked, saying anything that broke the silence that had grown unbearable. My voice sounded weird even to me.

Kai didn’t turn around to answer my question, he continued walking. “He’s here. The elders we asked were clear with the directions. Stop doubting my instincts.”

“I’m not doubting you,” I muttered, though I was. “I’m just saying this feels like we are chasing air. What if he doesn’t want to be found?”

Kai glanced over his shoulder, his sharp blue eyes narrowing at me

She’s too stubborn for her own good.’ Nyx said to me.“Like I don’t already know that,” I muttered under my breath in reply.Selena was walking ahead of me with large strides, her shoulders looked tensed but her chin was held high in so much confidence. She was too proud to admit she was scared, but I could see the fear in the way she clenched her fists.‘If she dies because of this, it’s on you.’Nyx’s voice growled, echoing in my head.“She’s not going to die,” I replied firmly, though the thought sent a jolt of unease through me. “I won’t let that happen.”Nyx huffed but didn’t respond. He had made his opinion clear when Selena first proposed this reckless plan.****It had started back when we got back home. We had barely recovered from the journey when Selena turned to me, her eyes glistening with a dan

SELENA'S POVThe halls of the Silver Moon pack’s compound were so silent that it was eery. The only sounds that echoed through were from the soft sound of my boots against the polished floors. My pulse thundered in my ears, and though I tried to mask my fear, my hands trembled slightly as I pushed open another door. The room was empty.I let out a breath, feeling a brief moment of relief. But I didn’t have time to relax. I had to find the spell book and the documents I had found earlier before anyone realized I was here.‘You’re walking straight into a trap,’ Celestia, whispered in my head. Her voice was sharp and laced with disapproval for this risk. Everyone disapproved of it.“You’ve said that a dozen times,” I muttered under my breath.‘And I’ll keep saying it until you stop being so reckless. What happens if you get caught? Kai won’t be able to save you in time before you get slaughtered.’Her words stung more than I cared to admit, but I didn’t have the time of second-guessing

KAI'S POVThe first thing I became aware of was my hands that was wrapped tightly around Selena’s neck, choking the life out of her.No.I stumbled back as I had been scarred by hot water, my hands shaking violently. Selena gasped for air, collapsing to the ground as she coughed and panted for breath. When I looked down on myself, I realized that my body was drenched in sweat, and my heart pounded so loudly it distracted every other thoughts in my head.“Selena,” I called, my voice coming out hoarse as reached out to her. “I—I didn’t mean to—”She scrambled away from me, her eyes wide and filled with a fear I had never seen before. It tore through me like a blade on my skin.“What’s wrong with you?” she whispered, her voice trembling as she pressed a hand to her the point I had strangled on her throat.“I didn’t… I wasn’t in control,” I stammered, taking a hesitant step toward her. When she flinched, it was like a slap to my face. “Selena, I swear, it wasn’t me.”The doubt was evident

SELENA'S POVI really wished I could narrate what exactly happened after I struck Elara, but what if I said it had all been a dream?I jolted awake from the dream that felt so real. My breath came out in ragged pants, and my heart pounded as if it might jump out from my chest. For a moment, darkness began to cloud my eyes, but I was grateful for the faint sound of Kai's steady breathing that had pulled me back to reality. My fingers instinctively moved to my neck—I didn't know what exactly I was expecting, but there was no bruise or any lingering pain. I could only recall a fragrant memory of Kai's hands around my throat.A dream. No—a vision.I couldn't even tell which part of it all had been a dream as it had all blended into my life as though it were real. The vividness of it all, the fear, the rage, the sound of Elara's chanting—it was more than just a dream. It felt like I had seen a glimpse into a future that hadn’t yet unfolded. It might not come in that exact progression, but

SELENA'S POVYasmine’s worried gaze followed me about as I packed up the last of my belongings in the small shed she had provided us with. The conversation with the spirit was still vivid in my mind and honestly, it left me rattled, though I was doing my best to conceal it from Yasmine.“Are you sure leaving now is a good idea?” Yasmine asked in her ever soft voice. She leaned against the wooden door frame of the room, her arms crossed as she stared at me.“Yes,” I replied, avoiding her gaze. “I need time to think, and I can’t do that here. I need to return to the rogues. It's my new home, and that's the only place I can regroup, and figure out the next steps.”Yasmine hesitated for a few seconds before speaking again. “You’re not telling me everything.”I froze in the middle of my motion, my hands clenching the edges of the bag. She wasn’t wrong—I hadn’t told her about the spirit’s warning, about how my powers would be lost after I fulfilled the purpose of my rebirth. The new knowled

ELARA'S POVI could still remember clearly how the events had unfolded that day. The echoes of my defeat still rang in my mind as I sat on the cold stone floor of my chamber. Although my magic was powerful, it had proven to be no match for Damon’s relentless attack. He had pushed me to my brink until I was forced to surrender—not out of weakness, but because the upper hand of the battle had turned against me.My emotions were a swirl of anger and humiliation as I paced back and forth, the hem of my dark robe brushing the stone floor.I had begged. The memory of my voice trembling as I knelt on the floor, my knees scraping the dirt replayed in my mind. I had pleaded for mercy, a decision that felt like bile up my throat. I could still remember Damon's dark eyes as he puffed with triumph. He had spared me, but his mercy came with a price. The council of magic had placed me under probation because I was still useful to the pack. Now, my powers were restricted. Every step I took, and ever

SELENA’S POVYasmine had come to me trembling with fear earlier this morning, claiming that she had heard from Elara that Silas was planning an ambush on the rogues and that we had to act fast. Now, Kai and I moved through the dense forest, walking in the path Yasmine had directed us too. I could recall her saying that they had a meeting point and we could confront him before then.Kai’s facial expression was hard as stone as he walked slightly ahead of me. His broad shoulders looked tense with determination.“You shouldn’t have come,” he muttered without looking back.I sighed for the umpteenth time since we started walking. “You really think I would let you face Damon alone?”“It’s not about what you would let me do,” Kai shot back, glancing over his shoulder. His blue eyes glimmering in the evening sunlight “It’s about what I’m willing to risk.”I didn’t respond to his words immediately. There was no point in arguing with him, not when his protective instincts always overrode his c

KAI’S POVI had been too blinded by emotions to close the gap between us. The kiss had been reckless. My lips barely brushed her soft ones, but it was enough to send heat through my entire body. The moment I tasted her natural flavor from those pink plump lips, the pain and exhaustion from Elara’s attack all disappeared, leaving only the softness of Selena’s skin against mine. But the kiss was over almost as soon as it began. Selena didn’t pull away, nor did she kiss me back either. When her wide, stunned eyes met mine, reality slammed into me like a silver-tipped dagger. What was I thinking?“I…” My voice shook as I stood back, releasing her from my grasp. “Selena, I’m sorry. That was—”She shook her head quickly, cutting me off as her cheeks turned red with a flush. “Don’t apologize. It’s fine.”No, it wasn’t fine! Nothing about this situation was fine! The silence on our way back to the pack was very unbearable. Every time I glanced at her, she avoided my eyes with an unreadable

DAMON’S POVThe stench of blood and failure was all wafted in the air like a bitter perfume as I stepped into Silas' shrine. Right next to the altar, he laid like a discarded puppet, crumpled on the ground, barely conscious, face bloodied and bruised. For a man who had promised me so much, he looked more like a battered animal than the cunning strategist I had reluctantly trusted.“What a fool you are,” I growled, my voice cold and sharp enough to cut through any metal. My wolf, Demon, growled low in my mind, his disdain echoing my own. ‘This is the man you chose to align with? Pathetic.’“Silas!” My voice snapped across the clearing like a whip. He stirred in his unconsciousness, groaning as his broken body attempted to rise. “Look at you. You dared to carry out a plan behind my back, and this—this is the result? You have failed me!”Silas coughed, blood spilling from his lips. His gaze met mine, filled with defeat and desperation. “You don’t understand,” he coughed again. “I was so

SELENA’S POVSo there I was, tied up like some damsel in distress, watching Kai go full beast mode on Silas. The ropes dug into my wrists, burning and biting with every movement I made, but watching my mate break free? Totally worth it.That smug jerk’s body was spread on the ground as he coughed and spat out blood when Kai loomed over him. His face was twisted in that classic villain look, the kind that says, ‘I should’ve won this, but I didn’t plan for the part where you would fight back.’“You don’t understand what you’ve unleashed,” Silas growled, his voice shaky but still laced with arrogance. “You can’t control it. You can’t control me.” I couldn't believe that even in his devastating state, he would still be choking out nonsense about how Kai didn't know about his own power. Typical monologue. But Kai? He wasn't having the least of it. Kai grinded his teeth, his eyes glowing with an intense kind of energy. It wasn’t just anger anymore in those eyes—I could see something prima

KAI'S POVAlright, here was the deal: waking up to the mother of all migraines, tied to a rock, drenched in sweat, and oh yeah—my bond with Selena was being ripped apart like some cosmic breakup I didn’t sign up for. Cool, right? No, it wasn't. Let's go back in time for a moment.****At that moment, I felt like someone had tried to download a cursed app directly into my brain. My arms burned all over from the enchanted ropes, my head pounded like I had a bad hangover, and I was about two seconds from flipping my lid when I heard her.“Selena,” I croaked, my throat dry like I had been screaming for hours. Her scream had sounded desperate, and it yanked me out of the fog blinding my eyes. I forced my eyes open, barely managing to lift my head. And there she was. My mate, tied up, struggling like the badass she was.Except, something was wrong. The bond. Our mate bond. The connection that had always been there, like a pulse in the back of my mind, was… flickering. Weak. And that’s when

  • Moon Fire Reborn    CHAPTER FIFTY-TWO

SELENA'S POVOkay, so picture this: I woke up, tied to a freaking rock, and not in some fun, harmless way that could've turned out to be a prank. No, this is the “sacrificial lamb in an ancient evil ritual” kind of tied up. My first thought? This had to be a nightmare. Maybe this was just another flash of memory from my past life. But when I blinked, and the cold jagged surface of the big rock pinched my behind, I realized this wasn't a memory. This was real. And that brought me to my second thought: What the hell was going on?!The air surrounding me smelled wrong. I could perceive burnt herbs, sulfur, and something metallic like blood. I blinked, but twice this time as I tried to make sense of the scene around me. Dark shadows swirled across the rough cliffs that we were feets away from, the moon—my moon was barely visible behind what looked like a glow of crimson. It then hit me that we were in the middle of a lunar eclipse.Great. Just great. Perfect, in fact.I struggled my bes

SILAS'S POVEvery atom in the air held magic—my magic. And as I walked through the corridor connecting my chamber to the entrance of the pack's territory, it clung to me like a shadow.I paused when I got to the gate, inhaling deeply as I prepared to proceed in my journey to Kai’s pack. The scent of the silver moon werewolves was all around me. Their scent was repugnant but tolerable, like animals in a poorly kept pen. Soon, it wouldn’t matter. None of this would matter when I take over. Damon’s recent instability worked to my advantage. Chaos always did.“Careful,” I murmured to myself, in a voice close to a whisper. “Patience wins wars.”I tightened the leather strap of my satchel and pressed forward. *****Present time…I reached the door I had been looking for. I could feel a faint golden glow of energy radiating from its edges, I could tell that Kai and Selena were near. Perfect, I muttered to myself. My lips curved into a smile as I retrieved a small glass vial from my satchel,

DAMON'S POVPain. That was all I felt, and It was all-consuming. The ache felt like flames of fire licking at my insides, burning intensely at every muscle and bone. I gripped the edge of the ornate desk in my room, my knuckles turning white as I struggled to walk closer to the bed. I had no idea how I managed to put up a good act during the meeting with the pack elders, but now that I was alone, the pain penetrated into me like a thousand needles in my heart. And I knew why.I knew exactly why I was going through this agonizing moment. I knew that it was as a result of the dark energy I had stolen through Yasmine just to defeat Elara. Now I was ‘enjoying’ the side effect of having an unmatched power within me as it was ripping me apart from the inside.“You’re losing control,” Demon, my wolf whizzed inside my mind, heavy disapproval laced in his voice. “I told you this would happen.”“Shut up,” I growled aloud, my voice coming out hoarsely. “You think I don’t know that?”Another rus

SELENA'S POVThe energy swirled about inside me. They felt like tiny sparks of fire dancing at the end of my fingertips. I could feel it growing, expanding, and threatening to escape out of control. My chest moved up and down as I tried to wind it with my energy. I tried pushing it outward in a steady beam of light, creating a barrier between me and the training dummies.“Focus, Selena,” Celestia urged, her voice strict but encouraging. She had been a good company throughout my training evening. “You need to concentrate on control, not force.”“I am focusing,” I muttered through gritted teeth in reply as sweat dripped down my eyebrow. My power was unpredictable sometimes, it would refuse to answer itself to my inner command. Every time I tried to push harder, it would backfire, quenching into nothingness. ‘Maybe you would do better if you weren’t thinking about him,’ Celestia sighed in such a way that I could sense the irritation in her.I stopped for a few seconds after she spoke a

His tenoric voice echoed in my mind, and each syllable being replayed felt like a sharp blade in my chest. “She said she’s done chasing you, Kai.”Her rejection shouldn’t have stung as much as it did, but I have to admit, it hit me harder than I cared. Nyx snarled in frustration as we both reminisced about our rejection. ‘You’re a damn fool, Kai,’ he growled. ‘She’s your mate. The only one who will ever understand us, and you’re letting her slip away from your fingers.’“Don’t start again, Nyx. Give me a break.” I muttered under my breath, pacing to and fro the length of the dimly lit hallway outside the war room.‘Oh, I will start,’ Nyx snapped at me. ‘Do you know how hard it is to sit here and watch you push her away? Every time you shut her out, you shut me out too.’I clenched my fists, trying to ignore the guilt rising within me. “It’s not that simple,” I hissed, though it felt easy. “You know

Every passing day without a word from him felt like a fresh rejection.I paced the grass field near the training grounds, clenching my fingers in frustration. ‘What was his problem? Why was he so distant?’ I thought back to the moments we had shared alone. The way his gaze lingered on mine, the way his touch had felt warm, protective, and… confusing, he had even kissed me!“He's such a stubborn idiot,” I muttered under my breath as I got closer to the training ground.‘He’s your mate,’ Celestia reminded me gently, her voice echoing in my mind like a soft melody. ‘And you love him.’“Love him?” I scoffed, running a hand through my dark hair. “How can I love someone who acts like I don’t exist half the time?”‘Because you see him for who he really is, Selena,’ Celestia replied in that annoyingly patient tone of hers. ‘Even when he’s pushing you away, you feel his pain.
