ELLA'S POV

The grip on my wrist was tight— too tight. I couldn't help but feel a lash of pain as Kelvin's fingers dug deeper into my skin. I noticed a sly smile on the corners of his lips which made my stomach churn. I'd always known he had a thing for me but never did I for once knew he was this obsessed. His eyes were burning lust, rage and another emotion I couldn't quite reach.

“Let go of me,” I tried to must as much courage as I could. I pulled from his grip but that didn't work, his fingers only dug deeper into the surface of my body.

“Ella, you’re with some rich guy now, huh? Think you’re too good for people like me?” His voice was a low growl, oozing with bitterness and something darker that made my stomach twist.

I tried to pull away, but his hold only tightened. “Let go of me, Kelvin,” I demanded, struggling to keep my voice steady. “You shouldn’t even be here.”

He sneered, leaning in closer, the smell of stale alcohol on his breath. “Doesn’t matter how I got here. What ma

XAVIER'S POVElla was a lot of things— stubborn, naive, strong. But never did I expect her to be this challenging. But I'm never the type to back down easily from a challenge, three months was more than enough to make Ella mine, to remind her of that fact. She looked sexy in that dress, her curves were highlighted, and her figure was damn attractive on those stilettos. The sight of her purred something deep in me— attraction, lust, maybe. I watched her eyes flicker in an uncertain direction as I swivel in the opposite direction heading towards the mini bar.Reach forward, I shot a glance at the bar man and waved my fingers. “A shot of whiskey.” I watched the bar man fidget as he got to the job. His fingers were shaky, almost like he was alarmed by my presence. Well, everyone did. I watched him pour the golden brown liquid into a shot glass as I reached for the glass raising it. In one swift attempt, I gulped down the entire shot, the whisky's sli

ELLA'S POV I was startled awake by the sound of Ivy's excited yell. "Daddy!"The word echoed in my sleepy mind, pulling me from the remnants of a dream. My eyelids fluttered open, and I was met with the blinding morning sunlight pouring through the window. A disoriented yawn escaped me as I stretched, rubbing the sleep from my eyes. My body felt heavy, reluctant to leave the warmth of the bed, but Ivy's voice had already set the day in motion.I dragged myself out of bed and padded softly to the door, curious about what had her so excited this early. As I reached the hallway, I froze, my breath catching in my throat at the sight before me.Xavier, in all his strikingly handsome glory, was crouched down on the floor, playing an energetic game of hide and seek with Ivy. The way he moved with grace and ease, his sharp features softened by a rare smile, made it hard to believe this was the same man who usually exuded such coldness. Ivy was giggling uncontrollably as she darted around th

ELLA'S POV "Trust me, Ella. You have no idea what’s coming."A cold gust of wind hits me from behind as Xavier's words sank deeper into my mind. The pen in my hand now felt chillingly cold, my pulse racing as I turned my gaze back to the view of Xavier, my husband or should I say, my contract husband. The main reason I agreed to marry him was to secure my daughter's future. I had no other choice, a contract marriage with Xavier seemed to be the only way out. Our marriage, according to the contract's rules, didn't harbor any forms of emotional entanglement. Xavier's gaze held mine as he walked closer. My neck hair stiffened upon his presence as I started up to be met by his electrifying green eyes. My breath came out in shallow pumps as he closed the gap between us. I tried to pull backward as he pulls me closer causing me to run into his hard chest. "I'm not playing your games Xavier," I mustered, the words skittering out as I watched him break into a dark chuckle. I expected him

XAVIER'S POV.I noticed the flutter in her eyes as I pulled back. "Oh, but I do, Ella. And soon, you'll see that for yourself." I heaved gruffly turning in the direction of the exit. I led the way as Ella followed, and in no time, we were at the parking lot where the car had been parked. As we proceeded towards the car, I couldn’t help but notice the uncertainty flickering in her blue eyes. The hesitation, the way her lips twitched as if she wanted to say something but held back, only made me want her more. My gaze drifted down to those cherry-red lips, so soft, so perfectly kissable. I knew exactly what they felt like, and the memory made something primal stir inside me. She had no idea how easily she drew me in, how every little movement, every unsure glance, made me want to pin her against the car and kiss her until she was breathless. Her body was irresistible, curves that fit against mine like they were made for me. I imagined those same lips parted in pleasure, gasping my na

ELLA'S POV "IVY IS MISSING!" The babysitter's voice pierced through me like a knife. My jaw fell slightly as I tried my best to have a grip over my emotions but I just couldn't bring myself to do it. I felt a spasm of pain reflect over my shoulders as my breath hitched in my throat. "What do you mean, she's missing?" I heard Xavier's voice pierce the thin silence that braced my ears. I jolted back to reality, the panic gripping me. "We left her in your care," I pressed, my voice trembling. The babysitter’s face crumpled, her eyes welling up with tears. She looked helpless, and for a split second, I felt sorry for her—but fear quickly drowned out the sympathy. My chest tightened as I glanced at Xavier. His face had darkened, and his jaw clenched so tight I thought it might crack. "How could you let this happen?" His voice was low but carried a dangerous edge, sharp enough to make anyone shrink back. He stepped toward the babysitter, his presence filling the room with tension.

I should've thought of it sooner. We didn't spend another second, bolting to my rusty old car. Xavier stopped and eyed it disdainfully, but I couldn't care less."You can either get in or you can stay here," I snarled, wrenching open the door.He slid onto the worn seat, didn't say a word. We peeled out toward Sweet Swirls, my old car protesting the strain. Xavier didn't say one word during the ride, but I can tell he looked over a million times at me, thinking of a hundred things, yet not saying anything. XAVIER'S POV I heaved a slight sigh as I drove the car into the clear street walk of the estate, my estate. My hands clutched tightly on the steering wheel, my mind a thousand miles away and bogged down with the weight of all that happened today-marriage, Ivy, the omen of a storm about the president's request-assailed my attention with gnawing tenacity. As I approached the McKinney mansion, the familiar iron gates swung open with their usual mechanical precision, ushering me into the world I’d always known—a world built on legacy, power, and control. The McKinney estate stood before me like a fortress, cold and imposing against the night sky, a reminder of the weight I carried. My grandfather’s legacy. My legacy.I parked the car and stepped out, straightening my jacket as the mansion’s towering facade loomed above me. This place, my family’s empire, had always felt like a battlefield—one where only the strongest survived. My jaw tightened as I approached the grand doors, pushing t

CHAPTER 34ELLA'S POV I strode toward the car, the weight of my grandfather's words still lingering in the back of my mind. The old man rarely showed vulnerability, and yet, tonight, he'd let his guard down just enough to remind me that the world wasn't as safe as it seemed. Not for Ella, not for Ivy—and not for me.Just as my hand reached for the handle of the car, a voice cut through the silence of the night from behind. "Xavier."I froze. Instantly recognising the voice all too well. Lucas - my uncle. I turned slowly, my eyes locking onto his. He approached with that same smug look he always wore, like knowing something no one else knew. Irritated me, though I'd never show it."Off already?" he asked, stopping a few steps short of me. "I was hoping to catch you before you disappeared. There's a party coming up. Business, of course. Some powerful people you should meet. Thought you'd want to bring that new wife of yours."I tensed at the mention of Ella. His tone was too smooth, to

She turned her gaze in the direction of the other end of the room where Madame Browne stood. “What is that about?” She asked Madame Browne so calmly as she stood up from the chair and paced towards the door's frame. “It is regarding the interview, I heard you needed information to give you clarity on her background?” Madame Browne said the words, strolling into the room with the soft sound of her heels clicking against the marbled tile seeping into the air.At the sound of her voice, I felt a gaze lingering on me. It crashed into me like a ton of bricks, the haunting sound of her voice filling my insides with dark, poignant fear.I felt the air passing through my lungs hitch as I clenched my fists to my sides. The silence that followed her question stretched endlessly as little beads of desperation clung to my forehead.“What is your name, really?” She repeated the question again but this time, it didn't seem as if I had the luxury of picking whether I was going to answer or not, it was a command. Her tone was driven by an authority that seemed unquestionable even for someone like myself.I fixed my face into a frown, my eyes darting over to hers as I clenched my jaw. I wasn't going to leave any gaps for suspicion, I had to act as clean as possible. Considering the low amount of time I was given to go over the role as Caroline, a poor caretaker to the president. I took a long breath and opened my lips to speak, “Caroli

ELLA'S POV I woke up to the soft sounds of Xavier pulling out of the bed. His soft footsteps pulled me out of sleep as I flustered my lids open. I was welcomed by the sight of him getting dressed and checking out his outfit in the mirror of the dressing room. I still hadn't made It up to him about what happened last night. His silence and the absence of his early morning hums hinted that he was mad at me. I stood up from the bed, putting on the robe as I walked in his direction. From where I stood, I could see him standing by a side of the dressing room. He was adjusting his tie while staring at his own reflection in the mirror. Xavier's jaw was well clenched as I made my way into the dressing room.I walked up to him and tapped him on the shoulder from behind. “Hello handsome.” I said, laughing as I teased. Sweat trickled down my forehead as I glared hard at the prominent figure of Caroline.Just before I could take another step backward, she stopped walking and stared at me. She glared hard at me for what felt like a minute before I saw recognition glisten in her eyes.“Ma'am, what are you doing at this odd hour, I was afraid the president was getting attacked.” My heart skipped a beat at the sound of her voice.I still didn't believe her words, a few seconds ago her eyes were bloodshot, contempt rolling freely in them and now, she was acting like she'd just seen me? I calmed my heavy breathing to reply her, “I… I ac.. I.” I struggled to build the words as I stuttere making a fool of myself. My eyelids were already closed and it was almost midnight.Xavier, who was in the bathroom, strutted out. He was just as tired as I was and seeing him like that, I decided not to press on. I rubbed my knuckles lazily on my eyes as I bit back a yawn.I had to stay awake.Something in me still couldn't relax knowing fully well the president was left under the supervision of a total stranger.
