-=Jayden's Point of View=-

It was very difficult for me not to be affected by the memory of Gabby's pleading expression, but I would be lying if I said that it didn't upset me when I thought about it.

After what she did and after she lied about Caleb, I have no reason to feel sympathy or even pity for her. I should not be feeling these things.

When I looked over at my son, who was still sound asleep, I exhaled a long, slow breath. I wasn't sure if he was aware that his mother had tried to take him away from me because he was still sleeping blissfully.

Because of the medication that was administered to him, he has been sleeping for the past few days.

However, the medical experts that I hired assured me that this is quite normal and that he should be waking up at any moment now.

Actually, I was more concerned about how I would explain to him that he will no longer see his mother as a result of my decision when he awakens and begins asking about her.

-=Gabby's Point of View=-"What do you think you are doing with your life, Gabby? I know you miss Caleb; I miss him too, but that doesn't mean you should starve yourself to death!"As I continued to stare into nothingness, I could hear the worry in Mel's voice, but honestly, it didn't really register with me at all at the time.A week has passed since my failed attempt to rescue Caleb from his father, and I have been unable to get him back until now.I feel like a total failure; I failed as a mother for failing to protect my son, and now I am paying for the sin I committed on Jayden due to my fear.I tried to beg Jayden and even got on my knees, but he remained indifferent as he walked away with my son, promising that I would no longer be able to see Caleb.I was astonished when Mel grabbed both of my arms and turned me around to face her, and I was dumbfounded when I saw the tears pooling in her eyes.I couldn't help but feel bad because I was just thinking about myself and had forgo

-=Jayden's Point of View=-"I assure you your mother will come," I said, stopping my teeth from chattering as I said that. I hate lying to my son since I know it won't actually happen, but this is the only thing that will calm him down, which becomes less and less effective as time passes."I want to return to my mommy, so please let me go home," I saw tears in my son's eyes as he uttered those words, and I couldn't help but feel hurt since I knew he was suffering. Seven days have passed, and it appears that my empty promises are no longer effective."However, Caleb, this is already your home, and I am your dad; do you want me to buy you more toys?" Even though I couldn't help but panic, I tried to calm him down."I'm going back to mommy," he said, sobbing.I didn't know how to soothe him, so I just held him tightly, as if he would lose his desire to be with his mother. This is how to be a father; it hurts more to watch your child in pain.I was scheduled to meet a very important clie

  • Mistaken Identity   CHAPTER 35: The Pain is Real

-=Gabby's Point of View=- I softly stroke Caleb's hair as he sleeps calmly; after crying his eyes out, he has finally calmed down. I couldn't stop crying when I saw Caleb again, and it only became worse when he started crying as well; from the way he hugged me, I could tell he misses me terribly. "You may proceed directly to your room," Jayden's voice astonished me because I was so focused on Caleb that I did not notice he was also there. I felt like I was being hypnotized while looking at the man I loved. I didn't have to strain to see his handsome face—the face of the man I love. I took a moment to check my emotions and realized that I still had feelings for Jayden, but based on the way he looks at me, I can tell that he has no feelings for me whatsoever. If there is one emotion left, it would probably be anger after I hid Caleb from him. "I... I still want to stay here with Caleb," I answered, and I immediately looked back at Caleb's peaceful face. "It's up to you," he said

-=Jayden's Point of View=-"Shit!" I silently muttered while driving the car. When I noticed Gabby trying to hold back her emotions, I kept urging myself not to be affected, but it was like a broken record player that kept playing in my head.I shouldn't be affected, especially considering that's what I really want—to hurt Gabby—but it seems as though I am also being hurt, and I don't understand why.It didn't matter how hard Gabby tried to keep the tears from falling; the trembling in her voice made it clear that she was experiencing deep feelings.I tried to keep my concentration while driving, but Gabby's reaction continued to haunt me. I was too absorbed in my thoughts to know that my son had been calling my name, so I was surprised when Caleb touched my arm."I'm sorry, Caleb. What's wrong?" Just as the traffic light turned red, I asked him while staring at him attentively.I saw the sad expression on my son's face when he said, "I want to be with Mommy," so I instantly started t

-=Jayden's Point of View=-Two weeks have passed quickly since Gabby moved in with Caleb and me.While Gabby is at home, I prefer not to be at home, and if I want to be with my son, I have my assistant pick him up.I knew that this would happen. I invited her because my son needed his mother, but because of what was happening, I couldn't give my full attention to my son."You're drinking again?" I heard a voice behind me, and even though I didn't turn around to see who it was, I knew that voice very well."You know what? This is entirely your fault," I said to my best friend Isahiah. I didn't even bother to look at him, and I just continued drinking.I'm still at work, and even though office hours have already ended, I'd rather stay and go home when it gets late."What did I do this time?" He asked irritably, sitting closer to where I was sitting.I didn't respond; it was up to him to ponder what he had done to make me this way.I wouldn't have gone to that bar and met the woman who r

-=Gabby's Point of View=-Days passed until it had been a week since our stroll to the mall. I didn't expect that they would come back to me so I could come with them, but they did, and it was because of Caleb's request.I could say that Jayden was willing to grant any of Caleb's wishes, as long as he wanted them, and even though he despised me, he still chose to grant Caleb's wish. But after that, I noticed that Jayden was intentionally avoiding me, and I kept telling myself that maybe it was for the best that we wouldn't see each other that much."Good morning, Caleb; let's have breakfast."My son didn't want to get up yet, so I thought of tickling his belly, which resulted in his room being filled with laughter.I fixed our bed and helped Caleb before we headed to the dining room, where the food was already reserved. As usual, it was only me and Caleb at the dining table. I tried to feed Caleb, but he refused, saying that he was already a big boy."Ok, Mr. Big Boy," I said, trying

-=Jayden's Point of View=-"Shit! Shit!" I didn't think I could say that, so when I found out that Brian was at home, I immediately fled the office.I was feeling very jealous at that time, so when one of my staff members called me to inform me that Gabby had a guy for a visitor, different scenarios were running through my head during that time.I just kept driving without really having any kind of plan for where I was going. When I finally chose to pull over and park, the sun had already fully set by the time I realized that I was heading to Antipolo.I made the decision to leave the car and head to a secluded area of that area. I frequented this area when I was a college student and wanted to get away from all of the obligations that are now on my shoulders. From afar, I can see the lights on the houses below, getting ready to start their night: a mom preparing dinner, a dad who just got home from work, and their children who just got home from school. When people look at me, they s

I thought to myself. It's been almost a week now since we were rescued from Jayden's uncle, Jovanie, and since that day, he hasn't shown his face to us.I tried calling his cellphone, but I couldn't get through to him. When I asked Jayden's staff, none of them could tell me where their boss was."You still can't contact him?" I heard Mel ask.We were currently in Caleb's room in the mansion, while Caleb was busy playing with his toys, oblivious to what happened to me and Brian."Yeah, I think his phone is still off," I said, followed by a long, deep sigh.I decided to lay down my body in Caleb's bed, I feel so exhausted from all the worry I felt for Jayden."What really happened?" I heard Mel ask, and then I felt the movement on the bed.I decided to start by telling her about my decision to meet with Brian. I know it would be unfair to Brian if I prolonged his hope that I could reciprocate his feelings.I decided to use my own car si

-=Jayden's Point of View=- I angrily wiped the tears that ran down my cheeks; no matter how hard I tried not to feel anything, it was as if my heart was longing for that pain. It hasn't been a day since Gabby left me, but the pain I was feeling was wanting me to kill myself. The message from Gabby's text still lingers in my mind, and I tried so hard to forget about it, but it feels like those words are already engraved in my mind. I can't stop thinking about what they were doing now that she's with my brother, Jared. I thought everything was going to be alright after what happened between us. I thought, finally, I'm going to have a happy family, but I guess I was just being delusional. I poured whiskey from the glass I was holding, but when I saw that it was not enough, I decided to drink straight from the bottle. I don't care if the bitter taste is burning my throat; all that matters to me is that it's helping me ignore the pain of Gabby's betrayal. A few minutes later, I hear
