Ivy.
The cold breeze blew on my face as I walked towards the front door of my aunt's well-built house. Rumors about this town being cursed kept crossing my mind. Back home, mom and dad used to tell me that they once lived here. They couldn't get over how spine-chilling it was for them to live in such a creepy town.
"Let me help you with your things," aunt Rosie said as she offered me a hand for my luggage. After her, I walked and observed inside the house. The aquarium with a dead fish caught my eye and if it wasn't for my curiosity, I wouldn't have gone to it.
"Is that fish dead, auntie?" I softly asked while looking at the greenish aquarium in front of me.
"It's just a toy, Ivy," she told me as she walked upstairs with my bag in her hands.
I followed her and as I took the stairs, my hand was sliding through the wood railing of it. The door on the terrace was open, causing the cold air to enter which made me cross my arms to prevent shivering. The quietness deafened my ear. I haven't even heard a single bird chirp from the window.
"This is your room. Apologies if I didn't have time to decorate it. I was planning on leaving that to you," she softly said as she dragged my luggage inside.
I looked at every single thing and it was all made of wood, making this room look old-fashioned. I don't mind staying, as long as I have music and books.
"I kind of love it, auntie." I smiled before sitting on the bed, admiring things around this room.
"That's great. I'll be heading for work now. There's food in the fridge if you're hungry," she informed me and I instantly nodded.
I heard her car leave, and so I was left alone in this house. When I felt that I was already warm enough, I opened the window on the left side of the room and removed my jacket before going downstairs. The sound of boredom inside this house kills me so I decided to go out for a jog.
I spent thirty minutes on the street, jogging and boosting my stamina. For a few seconds, the wind got aggressive and it took my towel. I ran to where it landed and got myself into a place where a terrible smell was all over the place. When I got my towel, I immediately covered my nose because I couldn't handle the stink. I looked for a piece of evidence and my heart skipped a beat at what I saw.
It was a dead bunny and its blood was scattered on the grass.
I gasped before running away and when I reached the house, I immediately went to the sink, throwing everything from my stomach up. I was panting as I wiped my mouth with the water that was running from the faucet. I couldn't breathe as if the scent of the dead bunny followed me back in here.
I sat down at the breakfast table, pulling myself together while I heavily panted. What did I just see? Why do I keep seeing dead things? Was that bunny a toy too like the dead fish I saw in the aquarium?
I shook my head in disbelief. I forced myself to come back to reality after what I saw. I took a hot shower and dressed before going on my first day of school at Mirfield College.
After a fast ten-minute walk on the streets, I arrived at the school. While I was walking in the hallway, I saw someone from the crowd, staring at me intensely. I didn't bother to stop and ask her why but oh—who am I kidding?
Everyone's staring at me.
I didn't want to waste my time giving them attention. It was all good to me until someone pulled my headset off of my neck. I immediately stopped walking, not causing the wire to cut off because it was still connected to my phone which I was holding at the moment.
"Nice music taste," he said, smirking at me while my headset is still in his hand, full of dirty tattoos.
"Thanks," I said with the straightest face I can show. I attempted to get it from him but he immediately pulled it away, forcing my phone to fall out of my hands. I got frustrated, thinking that it must have been broken already. But still, I maintained a straight face. "Look, I don't know why you people are staring at me like you're all wondering how I existed. But all I want is to get my headset back and mind my own business," I said in my most gentle voice, trying to convince him to give it to me.
"What are going to do if I wanted to keep it?" he said, challenging me.
"Give it back to the girl, Landon," one of the students from the hallway said to him.
The man holding my headset looked so annoyed. "And who are you to tell me what to do? Just because you're the mayor's brother, Zion, doesn't mean you can control what I do."
"Oh. Yes, I can," the man named Zion answered with an unbothered look before walking towards us with his hands in his pockets. "If you don't want things to get worse, give it back," he added, threatening this Landon.
It was given back to me after they deadly stared at each other’s eyes. I got my phone from the floor. Good thing, I have fast reflexes to stop my feet from walking immediately. I haven't noticed that Zion was still standing almost an inch away from me.
"Hi." I almost whispered, not being able to meet his eyes. I was stuck there, waiting for him to get out of my way so I could proceed to the room I was assigned.
"You seem nervous. I could hear your heartbeat," he said to me in a cold voice. I decided to give him an expression, a smile, perhaps. Like, who would hear someone's heartbeat without using a stethoscope? Or does he have powers?
"Typical, when moving to a new school," I answered before my eyes automatically stared at his perfectly-shaped jawline. To be honest, he looks fine. Good height, hair brushed up while some of it is hanging on his forehead, deep blue eyes, perfectly-shaped nose and lips, and fair skin. And his scent, it was very… manly and addictive.
A word didn't come out of his mouth. He had just walked away when he heard the bell ring. When I got into my assigned room, I figured we were in the same class. I caught him staring at me the whole time like he didn't like my presence.
I was walking towards the library when I heard a distorted voice of a girl like she needed help. I walked slowly and peeked at where the sound was coming from. I saw a man kissing the girl's neck and I was about to help her when someone grabbed my waist from the back and pulled me forcefully with a hand on my mouth, preventing me to shout. I tried to get away from him but he was a lot stronger than me.
"Keep it down if you don't want him to hear you," he told me.
Chapter 30: The Ceremony AwaitsIvy.Mom stood up and hugged me tight. "I missed you, honey.""Mom, what are you doing here?" I was worried of what she might think of me after knowing everything that I've been keeping from her and Dad."Rosie told me," she answered. "It's okay, Ivy. She told me everything and I understand. I wouldn't wanna miss your wedding tomorrow."Confusion filled my head, so she was aware of what was happening in Mirfield all along."Y-You know everything?" I asked for assurance and she didn't seem to be mad at me. "W-What about Dad?""Oh, he's coming tomorrow before the ceremony. His boss is, you know, kind of strict," she explained."I'll leave you two for now," Leona said with a smile before walking but I stopped her."Wait, Leona." She turned to us. "You two know each other?""Your mother was a good friend of mine. That's why it's not just you who reunited with her," she told me before leaving.___To have a private talk with my mom, I asked her to come to my
Chapter 29: A Plan for The Ceremony"Just please don't tell Mom and Dad."Marrying Zion has been a tough decision for me. I agreed to that arrangement in order to save him from death and my parents knew neither one of those things that have been happening. I'm not ready to tell them yet. It'll just make them worry again and they'll probably make me go home but leaving Zion wasn't in my plan."This is a lifetime decision, Ivy. You still have days to think about it. Once you marry him, there's no turning back. You will forever be tied to Zion," Aunt Rosie reminded me.She was helping me pack my things in my room since I will be moving to the Kyran Mansion for a while."I know what I signed up for, Auntie. I won't hesitate on this one," I answered her."Okay then. I know you're old enough to make decisions for yourself but always remember that I'm here for you, no matter what," she assured me.I gave her a soft smile before pulling her into a hug. "Thank you, Aunt Rosie."She never fails
Chapter 28: The Demon Warlock's CurseIvy."Just get out, I'm losing control!"His loud voice sent shivers down my spine as I watched him from a distance. I had never witnessed Zion in such a state, and I wished I never had to. What could an ordinary girl like me possibly do to for him in this situation? Nothing. Absolutely nothing.Just as I contemplated taking a step back, a chain on his foot unexpectedly came loose as a result of his aggressive movements. But before he could reach into me, the door opened from my back. Jace hardly pulled me before shutting the door, causing Zion to hit it from the inside.I was catching my breath, also letting a tear fall from my eye. "He's in pain, Jace. He's in pain and I can't do anything to stop it," I cried."Let me keep you warm first before we talk about it," he softly said, putting his hand on my back before guiding me into their fireplace.Honestly, it was freezing outside. But it didn't stop me from wanting to see Zion. The weather is col
Chapter 27: The ThreatZion. My phone rang for like a hundred times already and it was all from Ivy. She must have been thinking that I'm in no mood to see her. If only she knew how much I wanted to be with and how much I want us to be together. But I can't. With me around her won't guarantee her safety. She was just a normal girl who came in town to start a fresh life in college and here I am, being like a barrier to her path. I want what's best for her and if that's being away, so be it.I was in my room, sitting on my old-fashioned couch with my feet on the coffee table while reading a novel on my hand when Jace came in. He didn't even bother to knock."Hey, uncle. Aren't you going to answer that?" He asked, pertaining to Ivy's phone call while walking towards my shelf which made me a bit confused. Jace doesn't read books."It's none of your business," I sarcastically said while my eyes were still on the book."Woah, rude." He laughed. "Can I borrow this?" He was holding a book tha
Chapter 26: "Who's dead?" Ivy. I ran home and lock the door, leaning on it, I was catching my breath, still processing what I've seen. Was it me? Did I do that to him? I went upstairs and did what Zion told me. I always get nervous with these kinds of situations but I trust Zion. I know that everything he says will always be for the both of us but I can't keep myself from worrying. He didn't look so good earlier. I got my phone and dialed Lizzy. "Hello? Lizzy, thank god you picked up. Can you come over?" I asked her. "What? Why? Are you going to complain again about Zion ghosting you?" "It's much more serious than that," I said. "Okay, chill. You sound different, is everything okay?" She worriedly asked. "I'll explain everything later," I told her. "Okay. Give me five minutes," she said before ending the call. I stood up and checked the windows if someone was there. I assumed Zion told me to lock everything because someone might come after me again, probably James whom I'v
Chapter 25: GhostedIvy.I immediately went out of the room to check up on Lizzy but when I saw Jace comforting her, I didn't walk further. I wouldn't want to destroy their precious moment together so I went back to Charlotte's room.I saw a pile of magazines on the coffee table and I decided to read one. By the design of her room, I know she's a fashionista. I also noticed it whenever I see her. She's always wearing designer clothes like how elite people do.I was halfway through reading the entire magazine when I heard her voice. I immediately looked at her and I saw her eyes slowly opening. My face lit up as I stood up and went to her. I made sure I wasn't touching any part of her body that might hurt her more."You're awake," I said, smiling.___Aunt Rosie was watching TV with a bowl of chips on her lap when I got home. She turned the volume down when she saw me."How's your day, Ivy? Have you eaten?" She asked nicely.Honestly, ever since the 'real' Aunt Rosie showed up, it got
Chapter 24: Coffee ShopLizzy.I was washing my hands in the sink when I suddenly saw a big spider in the mirror that caused me to scream so loud. I was panting while wiping my hands and rushing my way to the door. I am arachnophobic and that's why I couldn't breathe whenever I see a spider, big or small.I was crying when I opened the door, I almost fainted when I found myself inside Jace's arms. I was trembling in fear as I hold him so I wouldn't fall."Hey, it's okay," he said softly. I braced myself when he went inside to kill the spider, I guess. Then, he went back to me."Is it gone?" My hands were still shaking."Yes, it's gone. Let's go," he said.Jace led me to the rooftop to get some air. He also brought me a cup of tea to make me calmer. He sat in front of me and observed if I was still panting but I wasn't anymore. Thanks to the tea he made for me."How did you know?" I asked, still holding the cup in my hand."About what?" he asked."How did you know it was the spider whi
Chapter 23: Bedridden Ivy.I woke up while Zion was still sleeping peacefully next to me. I leaned to have a closer look at him. I just realized that his features are so perfect. It was my first time to see his face this close. No wonder why a lot of people are obsessed with him.I carefully got out of bed, making sure not to wake him up. I went downstairs to cook my breakfast when I saw two of their helpers."Good morning, Ma'am," one of them greeted me."Good morning. I'd prefer to be called Ivy," I replied. It makes me uncomfortable whenever they call me that because I'm not someone who was raised with a silver spoon."Apologies if we still haven't cooked. We don't normally cook for the Kyrans because they don't—Oh my, God. Do you know that they're—""Yes. Yes, I know." I chuckled. They didn't want to scare me about Zion's family being vampires. "Uhm, can I cook instead? I'd really love to cook for my breakfast and I didn't wanna bother any of you.""Of course," she said and showe
Chapter 22: FreedZion. It was already 6:30 PM and I'm planning in picking up Ivy early. I wanted to spend more time with her. I was buttoning up my dress shirt when my phone rang. I didn't answer it until I finished the buttons."Hello? Who's this?" I asked because it was just a number. I comb my hair and looked at myself in the mirror."Hello, Kyran Junior," he greeted. His voice sounded familiar but I couldn't guess who he is. "I think we need to talk since I have one of your sisters."My eyes widened. I used my speed to go to Charlotte's room but she wasn't there. Where the hell did he take her?"What did you do to my sister?" I asked him calmly but with a low voice."Easy," he chuckled. "It's not like your sister will die. You must have forgotten that she's a vampire.""Who are you?" I asked for the second time."Bring James to me at exactly 8:00. If not, she dies," he simply said.Marcus."Are you informed of how your son broke the rules of this town?" I was trying not to sound
