The Four years ago continues...

Avyanna

I couldn't sleep because of excitement and confusion. I wasn't tired and depressed like I always did every morning, there was a new surge of energy in me. I felt refreshed.

The weather was beautifully cold and I wasn't prepared to bathe in that ice water. My mother would never let me use the water heater or the electric stove, I don't know what I did to that witch.

I got into the bathroom and took off my clothes.

Just then, I heard a banging on the door.

“someone is inside already”. I half yelled.

“Get your ugly black ass out of there!”. Angus bellowed.

I could sense hitting the door, kicking it.

Vesta was angry and I was getting annoyed by his childish demeanor.

“I just got in here minutes ago, I will soon be done if you let me bathe in peace, Angus!”. I was yelling back.

He could be such an asshole sometimes, I wonder how we are related, talk more of being twins.

I could hear him blabbing at my mum, but that didn't bother me. I was trying to pour ice water on my skin when I heard the door getting locked from outside.

I took deep breaths and continued bathing. When I was done, I put on my bathrobe and tried the door, it was truly locked.

I banged the door a couple of times to confirm my suspicion and yes!. That son of a…..had locked the door.

“Open the damn door! Angus!, you're gonna make me late for school!. I exclaimed.

I was getting pissed. To say I was livid was a total understatement.

“Mum! Please can you help me open the door? Angus locked me in.”

I could hear my mom's footsteps and I think Angus was with him.

“You are going to remain there for the whole day, this is what you get for letting that little witch and your scrawny tiny boyfriend do to my son”. My mother retorted behind the door.

“open the door! I've got a test today”.

I started banging the door, again and again, and again.

“you better quit, you'll hurt your shoulder”. Angus mocked.

I wanted to rip his throat out.

I knocked my head on the door. I screamed and screamed.

My screams started to sound like a lion's roar, I felt this coldness in me.

I walked up to the door and held the doorknob for some time, then I started to see fog over it. The doorknob was frosting till it shattered.

I ran to the mirror and my eyes had turned entirely white.

I opened the door and ran to the sitting room, just to see my mother at the entrance of our home hugging Angus as he was leaving for school.

The rage in me was like a volcano about to erupt. I didn't even realize it when I started running down the stairs. I was wearing just my bathroom robe.

I yanked Angus and hit him squarely on the cheek.

He got up and tried to grab my throat only to get frozen from the waist down.

My mother shrieked in horror., She ran towards him and tried to help him out. When she couldn't she came after me, she grabbed my robe and tried to yank it off.

I ran outside to see Elektra and Alcinder waiting for me like they normally did, They looked petrified.

Why wouldn't they be? I was running out of the house with only a bathroom robe and my eyes glowing, entirely white.

I turned around immediately and saw my mom coming after me with the flower pot in her hands.

I halted, extended my hands toward her and she got frosted from her legs to her neck.

She looked at me with so much hate and fear in her eyes.

Then I suddenly began to see dark spots before losing consciousness.

Alcinder

I didn't understand what the yelling and door banging was about inside Avyanna's house. I kept exchanging glances.

I couldn't wait anymore and I wouldn't wait here till anyone laid a finger on Avyanna. I couldn't bear it.

I signaled Elektra I was going in only to see the door yanked open by Avyanna in her bathroom robe.

The screams of her mother could be heard miles apart, but the shocking thing was Avyanna. Her eyes glowed brightly, entirely white.

She was running towards me. I glanced at Elektra but she was frozen in either shock or fear.

Avyanna turned back and the next thing I saw was Her mother frozen up to the neck. .

What the F. Just happened?

Avyanna was staggering, I sprinted catching her just in time before she lost consciousness. She was as cold as ice. My dear Avyanna.

I carried her into the room, Elektra following close by. We had sworn that we would be for each other, inseparable for life.

It's been an hour.

Her mother and brother were still frozen down the stairs. Her pack elders- in-council and healers have tried unfreezing them but it wasn't working.

I could hear their wails from here.

Avyanna hadn't woken up.

Elektra had refused to go to school and was sleeping with her head on Avyanna's dressing table.

I was holding her hand, she has gone through a lot.

What was it with the whole eyes glowing and freezing people? Since, when did she have superpowers?

After another hour, I heard her call my name.

“Al? Elektra?”.

“I'm here, we are here”.

Elektra got up and rushed to the bed.

“ I have a bad headache! What about my mom and Angus?”.

“Last time I checked they were still frozen down the stairs”. Elektra replied, rolling her eyes.

“Who helped me with my clothes?”, Avyanna asked blushing embarrassingly.

“The trees did”. Elektra answered sarcastically but I observed Avyanna was taken aback by the question.

“What happened Avyanna? you scared me, I mean us.”

She began crying out. I hate to see her like this.

She told us all that happened last night and this morning's saga. I couldn't believe she got powers now. Was I the only one left out?

I was furious at her mother and especially her brother. I was going to knock them out in their state.

I got up and headed for the door.

“Do not confront my mother and my brother, they are my family, my blood, and I will handle them as I deem fit”, Avyanna spoke with so much gravity.

I halted.

“And that goes for you too, Elektra. you will both learn to let me handle my mother and brother. There are some journeys I must take alone”.

I watched her as she got downstairs.

Following her closely as she got down the stairs, everyone looked at her with so much fear and confusion.

She got to her mother's frozen body outside and touched it. Embers spread her entire body unfreezing her, some pack members rushed to help her as she fell to the ground.

She got into the house and did the same for her brother.

As Avyanna wanted to return to her room.

The healer spoke to her :

“A blessing and curse you receive, you must choose how you want to see it. Toil hard or remain mateless for life.”

The healer walked away heading outside after that revelation.

Avyanna looked at her mother and brother helpless on the floor, her eyes were filled with tears. She ran up the stairs. I wasn't gonna let her cry.

Never again. So, I followed her up the stairs.

****

I ran upstairs with her, and Elektra followed suit. She sat on the bed while I held her in an embrace smoothing out her silver curly locks. I detested the fact she cried this much.

Elektra kept her distance staring into nothingness. Her eyes kept shifting and she was uneasy.

No doubt, Avyanna's situation disturbed us, but this wasn't it. She was too aloof.

Avyanna kept squeezing the hoodie I was putting on. As if it was telepathic, Avyanna and Elektra looked at each other simultaneously.

Elecktra came over to the edge of the bed where we sat and stretched out her hands to Avyanna.

Immediately their hands touched, and Elektra's eyes glowed bright red, reminding me of the day she told me her vision.

Red sparks emitted where their hands touched and she lifted Ayvanna out of my hands. The room was suddenly stormy and they hesitated into a tornado-like wind. All I could do was watch.

Avyanna

Elektra's eyes were bright red and we were mid-air inside a tornado in my room. It was thrilling and terrifying at the same time.

I looked at her, she looked like a vengeful angel.

“Yanna, how cool is this?”. I heard her speak but her mouth wasn't moving. Was this in my head? Was I running crazy?

“Yes, yanna! I am in your head, I found a way to speak to you from your mind. And No! I can't do it without being in this form. Crazy girl!". She giggled at the end.

“I got into your head so I could fully see your dreams and explain them better to you. You have been having these awful nightmares because you are yet to accept who you are. You have chosen to hurt yourself believing that your father's death was caused by you. That is NOT true. You are blessed with a gift directly given to you by the Moon goddess. It is a gift that will enable you to control the forces of nature, a blessing so volatile that it could be a deadly curse. Take the scepter, it is yours!!”.

The last words rang repeatedly in my head, echoing till I blacked out.
