As expected a lot of police officers had surrounded the place already, doing their investigations but yet not a single evidence was found. Due to the fame and wealth of Mr and Mrs Arthur, the media were also there, taking pictures and videos.
No one even bothered about the 5 year old who just saw a blood bath in front of her, the police kept on dragging as many corpses as they could out of the house, about 100 workers had lost their lives.
A pretty blonde putting on glasses walked into the place with the sounds of her shoe echoing as everywhere had become quiet. It was very difficult not to notice the lady dressed in a red blazer jacket. She was the only one who walked towards Mia that was seated on the floor,crying her eyes out. She went and tapped the little girl in the shoulder.
"You know this is all your fault" the lady whispered in Mia's ear. Those words alone were enough to send cold shivers down Mia's spine. Mia looked up to the blonde who had sparkling brown eyes.
Then the journalist rushed towards the lady.
"Mia Lilian can you tell us anything you know about your sister's sudden disappearance" one of the journalist asked immediately Lilian turned around.
"And the child who is going to look after her?" Another inquired.
"Yes Miss Lilian. How do you plan to go about her only child?" Another asked.
Lilian on the other hand found the questions annoying and irritating, she just left the scene without answering any of the questions as she dragged little Mia along with her.
"Are you happy now? You rejected thing" Lilian cursed Mia the moment they were both seated comfortably in the car.
Mia couldn't say a word. She was still in shock as everything was playing like a movie right before her eyes. All the maids, drivers, cooks, cleaners and other workers all fled the house, running for their dear lives. So there wasn't even a single soul to explain what happened.
"Now listen to me you little witch. I ain't you mother or your father so you will do everything I tell you quietly without performing any drama. Is that clear?" Lilian scolded and Mia could only nod her head out of fear.
"Driver take us home immediately" Lilian instructed her driver who in no time zoomed off from the scene with various news reporters trying to pursue the car but eventually gave up when the car drove beyond the distance they could run.
"Well there you have it folks. No one knows what really happened to Me and Mrs Arthur, stay tuned for more information" a journalist was saying in front of the camera man who was clearly shooting the whole thing live.
The news about Mr and Mrs Arthur's disappearance spread like a wildfire and was covered in every serious news channel that was looking for juicy stories.
Everyone tried to capture the news in the best story but no one could understand why the person who called the police had to wait for the event to take place and why did she run away.
At Lilians's house
"Finally we are here" Lilian was relieved as she threw herself on the couch. She sent a maid to go get her some water and Mia didn't know how to react, whether to sit or to keep standing, the little girl was just lost.
"Take her to one of the guest rooms , she will be staying there until I finally figure out how to get rid of her" Lilian instructed the maid again and the maid could do nothing but follow her orders.
Mia felt trapped, she felt scared and she knew that things were never going to be the same again.
Lilians's POV
I was happy and at the same time very mad. Yes, sounds funny but that was exactly how I felt. Finally all my sister's wealth was going to be mine, my company has been having very big problems and with the share I am going to get after I take full custody of Mira. But I still have to be very careful because there is a possibility that she ain't dead yet. But what if she is? Who could possibly want her dead?.
"Ma'am you have to come quick. We have an issue" a maid ran into my room without even knocking on the door.
"What stupid issue is that? What issue would make you barge into my room without even knocking on the door" I yelled at her not minding how scared she was looking.
" I am really sorry ma'am Lilian but you will have to come quickly. It's about that girl you brought" the maid kept on shivering and panting as if she just ran a race. My eyes widened immediately and I looked at her not wanting to take my eyes off her.
"Well why didn't you tell me so, earlier" I jumped up from my bed and ran to the guest room where Mia was but she wasn't there. I looked at the maid with concern and she signaled for me to follow her.
I stood on the staircase and saw an unconscious Mia down the stairs,she had fallen down.
"Are you that stupid?" I slapped her across the face. She looked at me with sad eyes and also with a lot of confusion.
"Go and get the driver right now" I ordered her and she left my presence only to return a few minutes later with the driver. He picked her up and helped me get her in the car. I couldn't get my thoughts to settle at a place, I ran my hands through my hair as we drove to the hospital.
"Why are you so slow? If you can't drive any faster then step down from the car let me do it" I yelled and the driver increased the velocity of the car. Immediately we got to the hospital, Mia was sent into the ER at once without any delay.
I waited outside and kept on pacing back and forth. I just can't lose that girl, at least not now. She is the key to my success. My phone rang and I hesitated but eventually picked the call.
"Hello miss Lilian, the bank would just like to know when you plan on paying the 1million dollars you borrowed a few months ago, the time to complete your payment expired 2 months ago" a bank official spoke from the other end of the phone. Damn! These people had to just call me at the wrong time.
"I will get back to you" I tried to sound as busy as I could before ending the call. I have never been the person that prayed before but I began to pray that she survives, at least till I can use her to get my sister's wealth.
"Mrs Lilian, Mrs Lilian" I felt a gentle tap on my shoulders while a male voice called out to me.
"Yes" I looked at the doctor with my widened eyes.
"The girl is going to be fine. Just some minor injuries" the doctor relieved me of my worries.
"Thank you so much" I was so happy I nearly embraced the doctor.
" You can go and see her if you want," the doctor urged me but I really didn't want to see that little brat. Knowing that she is alive was okay for me.
"Ok" I forced myself into the room where she laid. How I wish she was sleeping, each time I looked at her I got angered more and more.
Ever since she was born I have never paid my sister a visit. This little brat was the reason my sister stopped giving me any sort of help, my sister just left me,she abandoned me all because of her, I'm also very sure she is the reason my sister is missing now, I have a very strong feeling about it. And now the entire public is expecting me to take care of her as if she was my own child. I would push her off the stairs once I am done using her.
"Now listen to me you brat. You are going to be careful from now on, you are precious to me and until I am able to get what I need from you. Better make sure nothing bad happens to you" I went closer and threatened little Mia who had just laid there staring at me all this while.
She looked frightened but she didn't say a word. I wonder what's wrong with this child, why doesn't she cry or talk like other kids? She gets scared by every little thing?.
"What are you doing?" A nurse asked me as she noticed I was gripping Mia's wrist very tightly.
"You have to be careful. You are going to hurt her" the nurse advised as she began to check up on mia.
"Oh I'm sorry. I didn't mean to, I was just so happy that she is okay . I didn't know I had held her so tightly" I lied to the nurse who did nothing but gave a faint smile.
"Nurse" I called out to get the nurse's attention.
"Yes" she responded.
"Do you know why my niece is unable to talk and respond like other kids? I mean if you have noticed it so far?" I blinked my eyes, confused whether I was asking the right question or not.
"Yes, that's because she has autism," the nurse smiled at me.
"Autism?" The word sounded very strange to me as I had never heard it before.
"What does that mean? Is she going to die or something?" I asked hoping to get a yes.
"No she is perfectly fine but she just can't communicate with others the way you and I do and if you can notice very well, she tends to avoid eye contact, that is one of the symptoms as well" the nurse clarified before walking away.
I wish she had something like cancer not just Autism, that isn't just not enough punishment for what she has taken from me.
