“You have to show me your dress before you leave for the dance,” Katy gushed at the dress Alice showed her on the laptop with her legs swinging in the air.
“Of course,” Alice nodded with excitement, “How about on the night of the dance you help me get ready,” she said while giving her a smile.
Katy's face lit up. She got up to her knees, bouncing on the soft bed. “Really, I can help?” she screamed, and Alice closed my ears before the door slid wide open.
"What happened?" Vincent walked in searching for the threat, his stance ready for a fight. "Are you alright?"
His knightly acts were not getting into Alice's head. He was no hero today. Maybe later when she is asleep because she can't control dreaming about him, but not now when she is wide awake. Alice stopped her beating heart from getting mushy quickly and squashed the thought of Vincent's presence, making her excited.
“How did you get here so fast?” She asked and looked at him, raising a brow. “I thought you were on a date?” Alice’s tone was snarky, with a little drop of venom.
“Why are you screaming?” Vincent gave Alice a momentary glance and shifted his body to look at his little sister. "How many times have I told you not to scream bloody murder when there is nothing to scream about?"
“Ally is going to the dance and I’m going to help her look pretty,” she giggled, ignoring Vincent's dismay. “She is going dancing with Simon. She is going to be a princess. Like Belle.”
Vincent tensed and stared at Alice. He watched her longer than usual, without a word. It looked like he was debating whether to ask, but he shook his head instead. Alice bit her lip to stop her from trying to defend her choice to go with Simon, even though there was no need for any explanation.
“Have fun in advance.” His response was bitter. “Can you make sure she goes to bed soon?” he spun around and stormed out.
“I wish Vincent was nicer to you,” Katy sighed and Alice waved a dismissive hand. “Are you going to kiss Simon?” Katy was curious for a nine-year-old. She looked at Alice and waited for her to respond. "Are you? Are you going to kiss with your tongue?" She innocently asked, making Alice blush a little.
“Ahh... maybe. I don’t know.” She shrugged.
The door was banged shut. Alice jumped a little. "I didn't know he was still there?"
“Vincent can be nosy. He is a jerk,” Katy added, giggling.
“Hey, where did you learn that word?” Alice stared at her with furrowed brows, her eyes turning into slits.
“Riley says so,” she smiled, sitting back on the bed with her legs crossed, “Will you paint your nails with glitters for the dance?”
Alice's mind was reeling madly at Riley for bad-mouthing Vincent. She wondered if Vincent was upset with her after hearing she was going to kiss someone. Could he really care? If he did care, he wouldn't be going on a date. He would be around and maybe they would play some video games after Katy slept. Alice moved closer to Katy and buried all thoughts and feelings about Vincent.
“We will paint my nails with glitters, but only if you promise not to listen to Riley and his bad words. They are not nice.”
"Okay," Katy nodded, “I have a lot of ideas. Want to hear them?” She made a long yawn, her eyes refusing to acknowledge the tiredness. "We can search for something sparkly now."
“How about you sleep on it and tell me all about your ideas tomorrow?” Alice said, closing the laptop on the bed and walking to place it on her desk.
“But--“ she protested before yawning again, “Ok but you will let me paint you, right?” she looked at Alice.
“Yes, we can look at YouTube tutorials and pick colors.” Katy smiled, nodding with another yawn, “Go brush your teeth.” Alice urged with a smile.
"Can I get a glass of milk, please?" Katy gave Alice a sleepy grin. "I promise I will go to bed after."
"Sure, only half a glass, though," Alice added.
“Ok,” she moved to her bathroom as Alice headed down the stairs to get milk as her phone rang.
“Hey Meg, can I call you in a bit? Just need to get Katy her milk and we will talk with no interruptions.”
“You are with Vincent!” she screamed.
“No, I’m babysitting Katy. Call you back soon.” Alice pressed the red button before Megan started talking further.
She rushed down and got Katy her milk, which she drank to the last drop before she went to bed. Alice switched off the light after saying goodnight. She always lingers at the door longer in case she battles to sleep. Alice saw her mother doing it once and followed the same thing. Katy sometimes wakes up screaming for her mom, who died.
"Good night, Ally. I will be fine." Katy said with a yawn.
"Okay. I'm leaving." Alice whispered and finally shut the door.
She stood by the hall for some minutes before she went down to call Megan. By the time they finish their chat, which could take more than an hour or two, maybe Peter would be back from his event and she could leave.
“Tell me everything,” Megan answered on the first ring.
Megan and Alice became friends on the first day of lunch break since kindergarten. She was the only girl with three older brothers. Megan also has all the inside secrets about boys and sex. She likes to call all her information inside trading secrets, only to be shared between the two of them.
“Well, he came to Katy’s room, and he didn’t even speak to me for more than two minutes before he left,” Alice sulked, flopping on the sofa.
“He might be dreamy, but he is dumb,” her voice boomed on the phone. "And why are you wanting him to speak to you? I told you to ignore him."
“I don't know. Maybe because I’m the dumb one for hoping we could be friends again.” Alice sighed.
“Just friends?" Megan scoffed, "Girl, we both know that’s not true.”
“I know. I know." Alice said as she took off her shoes. "All I’m saying is that this is stupid and my mother is right. I should just stay away forever.” She placed her legs on the sofa.
"You know, I have been thinking." Megan paused for a while. "It’s dumb, never mind. Don't mind me."
“Meg?” Alice paused and heard her friend mumble a responsive hum before she continued, “Just say it.”
“Keep an open mind okay,” Megan paused again. Alice waited for her to speak and she did, “This part I need you to say, ok. To actually agree with me. Okay?”
“Okay?” Alice knew this was going to be insane because the last time she wanted her verbal confirmation was the day she wanted them to go shop for bras that would make their boobs bigger than their original cup size.
“Simon likes you and I know you have been blowing him off because of Vincent, but I think maybe you should say yes to the poor guy and who knows you could end up doing it with him,” Megan added quickly.
“What do you mean, doing it with him?” Alice got up from the sofa, looking around, making sure no one was around. “You mean doing as in have sex with him?” She asked, her heart thundering as she sat back on the sofa.
“I know it will hurt the first time, but I promise you will like it. Ask him to be gentle.”
“I.. I don’t know Meg.” Alice chewed her lower lip, looking down.
“No pressure, but maybe you need to look at other boys. Vincent might be Mr dreamy pants but he is an idiot for not seeing how much of a babe you are. Honey, he did it and broke your promise, so do you really have to wait for him to open his eyes and see how hot you are?” Megan sighed but pursed on, "How long must you wait for that idiot to see how great you are?"
“I always wanted him to be my first and have something special with him." Alice sadly admitted.
"I know, girl. That's why I think you should allow me to give him a piece of my mind once. Maybe beat the senses back into his head. Make him see you. You are beautiful."
"I know right." Alice laughed and scoffed. "I'm beautiful. I don't need him. He can go to hell."
"I'm all for this type of empowerment. You don't need Vincent in your life. You can do so much better."
"But he is so gorgeous. Sweet. Hot. And -"
"No. No. NO!" Megan interrupted, "We are empowered. We don't go back on our words two seconds later."
"But Vincent is -"
"No!" Megan interrupted again, "Vincent nothing. He is not worth you thinking about him. You should sage him out of your mind. I'm getting you more incense tomorrow. Lavender. It will chase all those stubborn Vincent thoughts out."
"You are right," Alice pouted and chewed her bottom lip. "He even went on a date, and who knows what they are doing now?” Alice took a deep breath. “It’s time I stopped wishing for something that will never happen. I don’t want to end up being a 40-year-old virgin.”
"I'm sorry. Come again." Megan cleared her throat over the phone. "Are you really serious?"
"I will give it more thought, but maybe it's time I give Simon a chance."
"He is a nice guy. He might not be as hot as Vincent, but if he tried a little harder, he might not be bad on the eyes."
"Hey!" Alice gasped.
"What?" Megan scoffed, "I'm not blind. I have looked, but that's beside the point. Simon could be someone you could date if you put your heart and mind into it."
"You really think so?"
"Yes. I know so, but don't go off and jump his bones so quickly."
"I thought you wanted me to just do it?" Alice asked with a frown.
"Yes, I said it, but you can take your time. It was a suggestion. You shouldn't do it because of me either. You should do it because you want to. Whenever you are ready. Don't make me say the mommy words to you."
"I know. I know. If I decide to have sex, I will be careful. Use protection. Take the pill as extra precaution if I have to."
"That's my girl." Megan added. Alice sighed and paused for a moment, thinking. "Are you there?" Megan asked.
"Yeah, I'm here."
"Okay, why are you suddenly silent? You wanna go to bed?" Megan asked.
"No, that's not it. Just thinking deeply."
"You are not in Vincent's room snooping, are you?" Megan gasped accusingly.
"No!" Alice shut the accusation quickly. "I'm nowhere near his room."
"So you are staring at his photo somewhere in the house?" Megan's tone was monotonous.
"Why the bored tone?"
"Nothing beats being in his room and snooping," she giggled.
"I thought you were team, Simon. Why the sudden change of heart?"
"You know I'm team anyone you chose. Could be someone new. I don't mind."
"And that's why you are my best friend."
"Please do fall in love with me. I'll give you all my attention and love." Megan said in a baritone voice.
"You can be so dramatic sometimes," Alice laughed.
"And you love it," Megan laughed and sighed, "So what were you brooding about?"
"I'm not brooding," Alice scoffed.
"My apologies. Deeply thinking," Megan added sarcastically.
"You call that an apology, huh?"
"That's all you are getting from me," Megan laughed.
Alice clicked her tongue but smiled, choosing to answer her question. "I think it's time for me to get over the stupid crush on Vincent. Move on and date. Who knows? I could even have sex with Simon at the dance if things go accordingly."
Megan screamed on the phone, making Alice pull away the phone. Alice heard someone clear their voice behind her and she jumped, almost dropping her cell. She caught it in the meek of time and stood up straight, clutching her device in her heart.
“How long have you been standing there?” Alice asked as she froze. Vincent was looking at her. He had a snarly glare, looking angry as hell with his fist clenched.
“O.M.G. I’m going to sex you up, babe.” Megan screeched over the phone.“Meg will call you back,” Alice added and ended the call quickly. Her eyes bugged out, horrified, as she fumbled to save her phone, which she couldn’t hold in time from hitting the floor. She kneeled down to pick it up, her heart beating. She didn't know how much of her conversation Vincent had heard. If he did, Alice had decided as she grabbed her phone and got up that she would not care what he heard."Are you spying on me?" Alice straightened her spine and looked at Vincent.“We have a nine-year-old in this house who doesn’t need to hear your disgusting calls.” Vincent unclenched his fist as he stared at Alice. He ran his fingers ov
“You did what, girl?” Megan shouted, opening her mouth wide.“Shhh,” Alice glared at her, “Not so loud you want us to get chased out of the library,” Alice said, looking around with a sheepish look. She loved her best friend, but she could be a pain sometimes. Alice had given Megan a rundown of his conversation with Vincent, which piqued her interest instead of studying. Megan always says Alice's life was like one of the tv shows she watches with her mother. “Let them,” she said, standing up. “Come on.”“But we have an assignment to work on.” Alice protested.“Ally, don’t make me cause drama,” Megan dared her to keep sitting as she readied herself to shout.“And you say I have all the drama,” Alice shook her head, picking up her things, “For the record, I’m deciding to follow you because I feel bad for the people in here because of your loudmouth.”“Loudmouth, you say!” Megan shouted, and it was followed by a lot of glares in the library.Alice hurriedly pulled her out of the library
“When did you have time to go dancing with Simon?” Megan gushed, nodding her head in approval."Keep your voice down." Alice sighed. For someone who had told her earlier to count down from five, so Simon won't run away from her. Megan was doing the opposite of her advice."Well, don't keep me waiting.""Last night." Alice whispered.“You went dancing last night?” she screamed again.“Meg, people are staring again,” Alice looked over and her eyes landed on Simon. She was sure anytime now he was going to tell his friends to leave and it will all be her friend's fault. Simon winked at Alice. She smiled at him as she tucked her hair behind her ears, blushing.“What was that?” Megan asked with a questioning look. "Is he coming over here?” “No, but don’t look.”The opposite happened. Megan looked, and Alice was embarrassed. She had to grab her attention before she did something that embarrassed her more. Before Alice could say anything. Her phone buzzed, and her mood changed because Vincen
Vincent regretted how she treated Alice. She deserved to know the reason for his sudden change, but she was getting too busy for him. He blamed that guy who has been hanging around her all the time. Simon was making it impossible for Vincent.“Can we go to the amusement park today?” “No,” Vincent responded, making Katy’s face fall.“You are no fun,” Katy grumbled and stomped away from her brother.Vincent stared outside the window. He was studying the person who was making Alice laugh and smile. Simon had driven so early just so he could hang around outside the gate with Alice. They had been talking outside for almost an hour. He crossed his arms over his chest and scoffed. He couldn’t hear their conversation, but he rolled his eyes. There was nothing funny about the guy, yet Alice seemed to laugh at whatever he was saying. Here and there, Alice was grazing her hand at Simon, and Vincent wanted to go out there and separate the two of them. While he was at it, he would advise Simon o
Simon was trying to enjoy spending more time with Alice, but ever since Vincent showed up with Katy, it was near to impossible for him to relax. It was alright a couple of times when Katy came to ask Alice to have a ride, but after the sixth time Simon was not pleased. This is not how he planned things. He wanted to spend the day with her uninterrupted. Coming to the park. Going to grab a bite. Later go for a walk so he could ask her to be his girlfriend. In that specific order. Now his brain was distorted because Vincent was giving him a bad vibe. The more time he was alone with him, the more he felt he might be at the park to sabotage his plan. He was suspecting foul play.Simon could see through Vincent. When he and Alice had gone on the Ferris wheel, he caught Vincent looking around. He was holding Katy in his hand and there was no reason other than Alice that he would search all over in the crowd. Simon tapped his foot as he waited for Alice to come back. He was feeling uncomfo
Alice's heart was pounding as she awkwardly waved at Simon. He was still waiting and not driving off, making her feel more embarrassed by herself. Simon rolled the window and peaked his head out.“Are you sure you don’t want to wait inside the car? It’s pouring and you could get a cold.”“It’s fine,” Alice cast her eyes down and shifted on her feet.“Hey Simon,” Megan shouted, making Alice relax.“Sup Meg,” Simon shouted, “Bye Al, see you.”“Bye,” Alice quickly responded. Simon waved, sat back in his car, hooted, and left.“Get in, girl. He is gone,” Megan said, but Alice didn’t move. “Alice!” She clapped her hands in front of her.“What?” Alice asked.“It’s raining. Move your ass.” Megan shook her head.Alice followed Megan inside, her body shaking from the icy rain and from everything that happened. She had asked Simon to take her to Megan’s place after and not at home because she needed her friend.“Is anyone here?” Alice asked.“Nah, I’m all alone. Have been all alone this whole a
It wasn’t raining when Simon got home. All the way inside, he whistled. Humming to an unknown tune in his head. He took off his jacket and shoes and left them in the hall. Hung his keys on the wall and walked to the fireplace and threw more firewood. His whistling got louder, and he bobbed his head. His mind was filled with Alice. Everything about her made him smile. He didn’t mind that she didn’t answer his question and nervously wanted to leave. The experience was foreign to the both of them and he wanted to do it again. He wasn’t jealous of Vincent after the time they spent together. Simon liked Alice’s honesty. He ran up the stairs and grabbed the shirt Alice had on earlier. When she wanted to throw it in the washing machine, he snatched it away. He hummed and ripped off the shirt he had and put on the one Alice had worn. It re
“What is wrong with you, asshole?” Alice dropped her bag by the pool and marched to Vincent before pushing him into the pool. “Don’t mess with me. Don’t talk to Simon.” Alice pointed a finger at Vincent, who emerged from the water and wiped his face with his palm.“Simon is an ass,” Vincent scoffed.“No, you're the ass. What is wrong with you? I don’t want you anywhere near me or Simon.”Vincent raised his brow. “You are the one who came after me. You pushed me into this pool.”“I’m warning you, Vincent. If you try anything funny again with Simon. I’ll come in at night and carve you in your sleep. You jerk,” Alice huffed and walked to grab her school bag and walked off.She wasn’t walking fast enough because Vincent caught up to her and pushed back, “Don’t touch me, Vincent.”“You need to apologize for attacking me like that while I was trying to have a delightful time. You just ruined my day.”Alice sneered and yanked her hand hard and dropped her backpack. “I will not apologize beca
Vincent was in his apartment getting ready to fly to Cape Town with Natalia as soon as she was done with her meeting. Vincent has always been a silent partner. Natalia was the one who ran the show. He didn’t do much legwork. All he did was only shows face when it is absolutely necessary Vincent initially never wanted to be a part of this whole foundation but Natalia never stopped. She talked about the foundation even through all his treatments. He heard her talk about opening a foundation that helps people. Some who were like him, wanting to go through this alone but also for people with no means to have their families with them because of finances. Her heart was in the right place and he funded her just so she could shut up about it but she had roped her too. The company was much his as it was hers. Her foundation was birthed because of him. “Vincent,” Katy shouted, “Are you home?” Vincent sighed and walked out of his bedroom. “Hey,” Vincent closed his door, “Why are you here?”
“Knock Knock,” Megan knocked on Alice’s open office. “Hey,” Alice looked up smiling, “Didn’t expect you here until later,” Alice went back to looking down at her phone. “My meeting was pushed and decided to pop in now,” Megan added walking to have a seat, “Who are you talking to?” “Vin,” “Oh?” Megan hummed, “You are back to calling him Vin?” “What?” Alice shrugged, placing her phone down. “You were with Simon a week ago and now you are chatting with Vin,” Megan said his name with air quotes. “You are the one who invited them both to my birthday,” “I did but you are not seriously going to be that girl, are you?” “What girl?” Alice frowned. “The girl who will repeat history and end up losing both men forever.” Megan gave Alice a pointed look. “I’m not,” Megan narrowed her eyes at her friend, “I. Am. Not.” Alice sighed, “And besides Simon and I spent a weekend together and nothing happened.” “Alice, you were grinning and told me you had a great time. You guys talked and you
The romantic phase Simin and Alice had been in was over and they were both back with the outside words. Simon dropped Alice at her house and went to his club to check a few things before he went to see his mother, as he had promised her yesterday. “He is alive,” Alan looked up at him as he walked in. “Don’t you have a house of your own?” Simon glared at his friend. “For someone who spent two nights with a woman. I would have expected better,” Alan shook his head, “And you should thank me.” “Why?” Simon scoffed. “Why do you look like you were not laid?” “What do you want from me?” Simon raised his brow, looking tired. “A thank you for starters would be nice,” Alan placed his phone in his pocket. “You owe me that much.” “You have free alcohol and access to this place,” Simon added, walking away. Alan jumped and ran in front of his friend and carefully stared at him. “Did Al reject you?” “Her name is Alice, not Al,” Simon sidestepped and moved again. “Oh man. I’ll make you som
Alice groaned when someone shook her. She stirred, but the male laughter made her open her eyes. She jerked her body up, revealing her naked upper body. She quickly pulled the sheets over herself and closed her eyes and sighed. “Good morning,” Simon chuckled. “Morning,” Alice yawned, hiding her face behind her hair. “Alice,” Simon moved closer to her, “Why are you hiding?” “Shit,” Alice sprung up, pulling the sheets, “I’m late.” Simon grabbed Alice and pulled her back to his chest. “Are you trying to use this as an escape and run?” “No,” Alice scoffed, “I’m late. I have a meeting.” “It’s Saturday.” “I know, but I have a meeting,” “Hmm,” Simon spun Alice around and pulled her hair away from her face, “Open your eyes,” Alice shook her head, “Look at me, Al.” Simon calling her Al again made Alice look at him. His gray eyes held mischief. “I know the first time we were together you ran away from me?” “I’m not running,” Alice whispered. “Then why are you avoiding my gaze?” h
Simon didn't expect to be pulled close to Alice by Knox and Tristan. He had a fair idea of what was happening, since Alice had explained the game to him once when they were at Knox's party years ago, but he was confused because the options were drinking or a forfeit fee. "What is happening?" he asked. "Kiss me for one minute and save me." Alice pleaded with Simon. "How much do you need to pay?" Simon asked. "Nice try." Knox patted his shoulder. "We are not making it easier for her. She has to drink or kiss someone for a minute." Tristan spoke. "Not my wife," Riley added. "I have a meeting at seven," Alice smiled at him awkwardly. "If you can't, I can ask someone." At the mention of someone else, Simon leaned to Alice's level and kissed her. It was a fiery kiss. Their tongues were at odds with each other. It wasn't supposed to feel like this. It was an addicting kiss that wouldn't be quenched in a minute. He needed more. She needed more. "Okay," Megan pulled Simon back, "It's
Alice enjoyed dancing to Perfect by Ed Sheeran the most that they danced to the song more than once. It had been perfect to be in his arms and slow dancing like there was no tomorrow. Alice forgot all her worries and only saw their moment. Her heart was pounding, and she was grinning and happy."Who knew you could be such a gentleman?" Alice looked up at Vincent."If you see me as one, that means I did my job right," he murmured, the response making Alice feel mush."Do we really have to go back?" Alice pouted."Your family and friends are waiting for you. I believe they still have more thing in store for you."Alice scoffed. "They want me drunk.""They mean well," Vincent grinned.Alice pouted but swayed around with Vincent, feeling like she was teleported to cloud nine. She was glad Vincent remembered one of her wishful thinking and brought it to life. They had dinner, ate her favorite food in the entire world, and danced together. If Alice was to drop dead now. She would go with a
Vincent had only been teasing Alice by reading her diary. He didn't expect it to lead to this. Alice was straddling her and leaned close. His mind had misread the situation because she had gone for the kill. This was not a drill. The kiss was happening. Alice had pressed her lips on him and he stopped acting like everything about today was merely him giving Alice the best memorable birthday. They were kissing, and this was not part of the plan.Did he care?Hell no. Vincent grabbed the back of Alice's neck and took over the kiss. The need and want were visible from the way their tongues moved. Thing were going too fast. "Wait?" Vincent quickly stood and moved Alice across from him, his heart pounding. He quickly went to have a seat to hide his friction. Alice's mouth was swollen, and she was looking at him in confusion and he understood her unasked question. Why stop? He didn't want to stop, but he had to. As much as he wanted to pull away from the table setting and take her on the
Alice had been tipsy for a long time to really care about anything. This was her birthday, and she was open to many things. Vincent sweeping her away life a princess to a mysterious castle was making her skin tingle. They were too close and acting very casual. Alice didn't mind at all. She was excited and very curious."Are we there yet?" she asked. The afro beats music she was listening to were groovy, but she wanted to know where she was going. Vincent didn't answer her. Her senses were misfiring because of the way Vincent was holding her. She didn't know where he was taking her, but her stomach was doing somersaults. She wiggles and held Vincent's neck closer. Her heart rate went up."Vincent?" Alice called him.He had been calm before, but now his heart was pounding. Alice felt a shift from him before she was placed on something soft. She was tempted to take the blindfold off, but took a deep breath. She trusted Vincent. It could also be the alcohol giving her the courage to see w
Vincent was running late. He was thinking over one thing. His gift to Alice. He was not sure if he still was going to go over with it. He had been sure when he organized everything, but now he was doubtful. Vincent wasn’t sure about the flowers he was holding, either. It seemed obvious and overkill. The flowers were too much. Vincent had decided to lose the flowers. He slapped the bouquet of white roses on her sister’s chest. Katy was startled and looked at him, taking off her one AirPod from her ear. “What are you doing?” she asked. “Hold the flowers. You can give them to her when we arrive.” “No,” she refused, “You got her these flowers. I’m not giving them to her.” “Do as I say and take the damn flowers,” Vincent added just as the elevator opened. “Vincent,” Katy hissed, holding the flowers walking behind him. “There are plenty of flowers around.” Vincent looked at her sister. “Put them somewhere. You don’t have to give them to her.” “I’ll give them to her,” Katy scowled, “a
