I almost ran mad when I saw the man aim a weapon at Mike. The fear overpowered my voice of reason and I screamed his name, but it was only a useless thing to do as the shot had already rang out and the assailant used the cloak of darkness to his advantage to take to his heels. 

I suddenly couldn't keep track of how many times I called out his name again as I rushed over to where he'd gone down without any sort of struggle whatsoever. He just dived into the concrete head first and wasn't moving. 

He wasn't moving! 

When I finally made it to where he lay, I shakily tore the black t-shirt he wore off his back to access the wound. My blood ran cold when I realised the bullet had penetrated into the left side of his back.
