"My dad once told me a family secret on my sixteenth birthday." 

There was no doubt that Angel was the one talking, but somehow, hearing her voice and seeing that she was hale and unharmed, in a room full of dead bodies killed my initial eagerness to be close to her. 

"My birthday gift, that year, was a gun." 

There was this chilling essence to her voice that set the hairs on my neck erect. I dreaded the fact that my hunch might be right, as to the reason behind her sudden coldness. 

"He told me the Badmus' came from a long line of ancestry that were well known as professional hunters." I began to walk towards her with utmost care. I wasn't sure what happened here yet, so I didn't want to act on an impulse that would cause a horrific chain reaction.&n
