Chapter five.

A score of astounded expressions greeted me back at the hideout, Trigger had to announce my arrival before I got the customary salutes that I didn't give a fuck about. Little surprise there though, I had a woman in my arms and in the estate. That, in the history of the ArchAngels had never happened; hence the shock.

"Operation successful everyone, we'll have a party tomorrow to celebrate. You can now all sleep peacefully, good night." I dismissed the boys with a scantily clad lady in arms and headed towards my suite.

"Mike, is anything …erm… the matter?" Fuhad, my best friend and second-in-command questioned with a forced smile as I fumbled with the biometric scanner to gain access to my suite.

"Nothing is wrong Fuhad. I believe I have already dismissed everyone for the night." I could still feel his solid presence but I wasn't ready to talk about my 'misconduct' just yet, thankfully, the door slid open just at that moment.

"Good night Fuhad, we'll talk in the morning." The digital door closed off whatever he was about to say, leaving me alone with my damsel in distress.

I'll just lay her on the bed and crash on the couch.

Nice plan, but after I placed her on the bed, I cringed at her appearance.

She looked like shit. Literally!

Blood, dirt and makeup covered most part of  her skin, not to talk of the torn dress that revealed her whole... breasts.

I'll be damned if I wasn't upset by her round, perky globes.

Upset because a part of me was rising up, a part of me I would rather not mention.

Despite my… mood, I brought a towel and a basin of cold water to clean her up. Why I went through the trouble was unknown, I just felt it was the right thing to do.

After successfully cleaning her up and getting her into one of my shirts -which was incredibly difficult as I caught myself having a boner just by staring at her half nudity and the fact that I couldn't get her wig off no matter how hard I yanked, I was all ready to have a happy night rest on the couch with a stupid sense of accomplishment when I heard a quiet sob.

Fucking great!

This was one of the numerous reasons I never do good things to help people.

I ignored her for a while but it got louder, louder than I could bear.

"Can you fucking keep it down a little? Someone is trying to sleep here!" I yelled and everything went quiet.

Good.

I pulled the duvet over my head and closed my eyes, imagining maami's voice softly speaking to me.

"Sleep well Oluwakayode mii."

It was peaceful for a few minutes, until something started humming like an angry bee.

I hissed in frustration, suddenly feeling like cracking someone's skull, a particular whore's.

I yanked off my blanket and started moving towards the bed with that intent but stood transfixed by the sight that greeted me.

She was thrashing around the huge bed with short gasps, her cloth —my shirt— dampened with sweat and her face was filled with tears.

"Please let me go ...today is my birthday..." Was all I could make out from her ramblings and that one broken sentence struck a nerve;

Let him go, it's his birthday...

I climbed onto the bed and tried to calm her down, when our skins came in contact, I felt hers burn mine. She was burning up with fever.

You just had to be the Superman damning the rules and bringing her home, now face the consequences.

Stupid subconscious.

I went into the bathroom to get a small towel and mildly cold water, it was too early to call the nurse and I had already created a spectacle by showing up with her earlier, I didn't want all attention focused on her more.

And what in hell has gotten into you Almighty Mike?

Even my subconscious knew things were changing drastically and that because of a certain slut that got ditched by her catch for the night.

"I'm too broken for love... My ill luck would turn your life upside down..." She murmured as I placed the wet towel on her forehead.

"This is going to be one hell of a night," I muttered under my breath, before slapping the soaked towel noisily on her forehead.

*

The night was indeed a long one; staying up all night by her side, dabbing her forehead with wet napkins to keep her fever at bay, and also listening to her unconscious ramblings that made my heart clench in an unfamiliar way and finally sleeping at the break of dawn only to wake up not long after.

It was a powerful kick that threw me off my bed. Disoriented, I was already tapping around for my Beretta before I remembered the happenings of the day before. I slowly sat up and scrutinized the person behind the painful kick, standing with a scowl on my bed, in nothing but my shirt that almost reached her knees…

…and every ounce of anger I felt dissipated. Just like that.

"You fucking son of a bitch! How dare you take advantage of me?! I'll sue you for rape, I'll make sure you rot in jail for the rest of your God damn life…"

I zoned out of whatever her plan of making me pay for 'taking advantage of her' was and focused on how alluring she looked in her anger, how polished her accent was, how I felt intrigued, even aroused by her very unusual eye colour, how—

"Hello mister, I'm talking to you! You're not mute right, say something!" Her yell and the snap of her fingers was enough to snap me out of my dangerous thoughts.

I wondered how I could be thinking about things like that when I should probably be putting a bullet in her head for hitting me without so much as a notice.

"Good morning Angel," I blurted out and stood up from the ground.

"I'm not an angel bastard! You slept with me last night even when you knew I was dead drunk, it's against the laws of this land and I'm going to make you pay!," Her yelling was supposed to annoy me or at least irritate me, but I was amused instead.

Strange but true.

"You're welcome honey, I'll take this rant of yours as a way of thanking me for saving your kinky, little ass back there last night," I said with a straight face, then her eyes slowly widened as if remembering something.

"You murdered six officers of the law, kidnapped me and raped me, who are you?" She whispered then started pacing to and from the length of the bed while I looked on in amusement.

"I'm Micheal. Well, you can call me Mike but everyone here calls me Almighty Mike so if we're in the presence of the boys you'll have to add the Almighty or they'll think you're being disrespectful and I wouldn't want my angel to go through any—"

"Shut up God dammit! I'm no one's angel and I don't care for pleasantries, you're going to jail for multiple crimes, rape, murder, kidnap and so many more. You should focus on getting a lawyer." She listed the crimes with fingers like a kid reciting chocolate varieties. I couldn't help but want to laugh even if she was threatening to send me to jail, which by her tone I knew she wasn't joking.

"Are you a lawyer?" I questioned curiously.

"No but–" I cut her off with a short bark of laughter, it was hard trying to suppress it with the whole funny situation.

"So you mean you're not a lawyer and you're all about the constitution, rights and law suits? In this part of the world? Are you visiting this country for the first time or something?"

Her nose flared and she finally jumped off the bed and walked towards me, "so I have to be a lawyer to know my rights and fight for it? Oh you just wait till I get out of here. If you don't rot in jail like the scum you are, then I'll stop bearing Mokunfayo."

Bingo! unusual but unique name.

She keeps threatening you and all you can think of is her name?, get a hold of yourself ALMIGHTY MIKE!

"Beautiful name for a beautiful face," I said out loud with a smirk, knowing that it was going to rile her up even more.

And I wasn't wrong.

"Just stop it already! This is a one night stand OK? Nothing else is ever going to happen between us after this, so stop talking gibberish and tell me where my cloth is!"  she snapped with a cold vibe and I pointed to the dresser where the black, torn thing lay with a raised brow.

"That door leads to the bathroom," I nodded towards the semi closed door and watched as she marched towards it without gratitude before walking lazily to the mini bar in my room to pour myself a glass of something strong, waiting for the drama that would soon unfold…

Mokunfayo Badmus:

I stood immobile in the running shower, reeling in all sorts of emotions.

I couldn't believe I'd slept with some stranger that had more dreadlocks, tattoos and piercings than a conscience. I mean, he shot six police officers without batting an eyelid to help me, a stranger.

I wasn't scared at all then, but now that I remembered vividly, the events of last night, I couldn't help my fear. I was scared because I knew he wasn't one of those noble men with business suits and dazzling smiles, he had a ring on his fucking brow! Meaning he was either a thug, or a spoilt brat from one of the makers and shakers of the country, a serial killer, maybe a psychopath that had a fetish for drunk ladies in distress and even if I was grateful for saving the little strand of dignity I had left, I was scared.

Not because of the the fact that he could easily kill me and dump my body in a lagoon without second thoughts, but because for the first time since David, I didn't feel repulsion towards an opposite sex or last night wouldn't have happened even if I was high on drugs.

In other words, I'm attracted to someone, someone dangerous. I slept with a murderer and there wasn't an ounce of regret in me. Instead, I caught myself trying to remember what being with him felt like, how much I'd enjoyed it, if his small pink lips really felt soft and tasted as succulent as it appeared…

I need to get away from this place fast.

I abruply turned off the shower, wrapped a towel around me and tore open a new toothbrush for mouthwash, pausing for a moment to stare at the reflection of the pretty, caramel skinned woman that stared back at me with damp hair and tired eyes. After the quick exercise, I shoved my cotton panties in my clutch and picked up my dress to wear.

You have got to be kidding me!

Alas! My dress resembled nothing like the gown I wore out of madam Peju's compound last night. Rougly torn from neckline to hem, it now resembled a ragged jacket which I couldn't wear because of my nudity, I was left with no other option but to wear but Mike's shirt.

Sighing in embarrassment and defeat, I pulled the damn shirt over my head and walked out of the bathroom that was the size of my whole room back at Madam Peju's.

He was sitting on an overly plush couch with a drink in one hand and a smartphone in the other when I walked back into the large room. His attention quickly shifted to me as I walked towards the dresser in search of a comb for my damp hair.

"I see you're not in your gown, or do you suddenly like my shirt better now?" He observed lightly. His tone was neutral, but when I turned to face him, the skin around his eyes was crinkled in amusement.

He must be having a lot of fun embarrassing me, Asshole!

"You know my gown is torn." More of a statement, less of a question. He nodded in agreement and I turned around in my hunt for either a dryer or a comb with his eyes actively following every move.I found nothing but numerous hair products, making me wonder if his locks were natural.

Giving up on the ultimate search, I turned towards the bed to search for something more important. I needed to inform Bisi that I was fine and would be home as soon as possible, but I got just as much luck finding it as with the dryer and comb. It was missing.

"You seem to be in search of something." He piped up with feigned puzzlement.

Like a dummy wouldn't have figured that out with his eyes closed! My subconscious raved.

I turned to him and snapped my fingers in demand, "where is my phone?"

He didn't flinch at the coldness in my voice. Instead, he sat regally the expensive furniture with one long leg draped over the other, staring at me intently like a piece of art on display. It made me feel self conscious and irritated, I almost squirmed under the scrutiny. Almost.

After what seemed like eternity, he finally spoke, "you have got some nerve angel." He paused to take a sip of his drink then continued, "first off, you have to be polite when you talk to me, I'll let it slide this time because I haven't warned you before." I rolled my eyes in boredom as he took another sip with his pointer finger raised to indicate that he wasn't done talking.

"Second is, I haven't an idea as to where your phone is and–"

I cut him off, unable to stomach his stupid arrogance for a second longer, "you're getting on my nerves mister! It is either you hand me my phone right this moment or I'll call the security of this hotel, report and have them connect me to the nearest police station. You don't want theft added to your already long list of crimes now, do you?"

He smiled confidently, as if perceiving that I was making empty threats. It irked me to see that my coldness and rudeness didn't get under his skin. If anything, it amused him, satisfied him even.

"Why are you smiling?" I said sharply, "you think I'm joking right? Oh just you wait for me, I'll be back in a few," I said and walked past the couch towards the door.

I didn't take up to three steps before a sudden action took place to have my back slammed into a wall; a firm, yet soft wall of muscles with a strong arm wrapped around my waist. I shrieked in surprise and clawed at the hands but they didn't budge. Before I could open my mouth to relay more threats of the torture that I'll eventually bring his way, his head came close enough to whisper to my right ear;

"I've had enough of your fucking tantrums angel and I bloody don't give a rat's ass about your lost phone or law suits. Let me have you know that you can not as much raise a finger against me without falling dead into a pool of your own blood before you succeed. You bloody can't sue me for I'm Almighty Mike and Almighty Mike is always above the law and until I'm sure that the thought of doing the latter won't ever cross your bitchy mind ever again, you, Angel, are my prisoner. So be a good girl. You won't want a permanent vacation to the place those officers are now, will you?"

He delivered his speech with a voice dark, emotionless and holding promises of death and hell. The way he said the last part with his sharp fingernails sliding around my neck dramatically before releasing me and walking towards the door sent chills down my spine.

The door slid open after he scanned the palm of his left hand on a screen, he took fluent strides out of the room as if none of what he had just said affected him a single bit. When he abruptly turned after crossing the threshold to the other end of the sliding door, the rhythm of my breaths suddenly went on an hiatus as well.

"One more thing Angel," he said with a half smirk lightening up us face but the murderous glint in his eyes was still chillingly obvious. "I don't do lonely bitches that got ditched by lowlife patrons, I have got better taste," he finished with a fullon smirk as his eyes scanning my whole form with indifference and slight disgust to drive the point home.

Even after the door slid back to the floor to ceiling mirror it'd initially looked like, I stood transfixed to the ground, wondering in horror what type of debacle I landed myself in this time.
