"I came here for you." I didn’t lie this time. His grip around my arm softened for a moment, as did the harsh expression on his face, before he let go of me and stepped away entirely.

"You shouldn’t have." He walked over to his chair but stood beside it and looked outside the enormous window.

"Well, I am here now. You need to rest," I said, approaching him, but he didn’t act aggressively to get away from me. He kept looking outside the window while I stood beside him.

"Leave, Phoenix," he demanded, not putting a lot of pressure on his commands.

"I didn’t come here to leave," I whispered.

"You don’t need to feel like you are responsible for this," he said as he turned his body slightly and pointed at the bandage on the back of his head, which was rolled over his forehead.

"I came here because I care," he scoffed as soon as I said that. "Fine, if you truly think I’m the type to lead you on and then go behind your back to kiss and make out with that asshole, then I’ll leave," I yammered
