Alessia.
The Winters were known for over centuries before my existence of its strict principles. We were known as the werewolf hunters. While my great great great grandfather invented the wolf hunting system decades ago and termed himself the wolf slayer, he had left his empire in the hands of sons after sons, daughters after daughters.
My grandfather, Gregory Winters had left most of the family traditions to my mother who happened to be his first child and his succeeding heir. My mother was a strong woman and obviously the apple of her father's eye. While Gregory had retired from most of his work, now staying up in Denver, completely trusting this whole thing to his children, it's only right to think he's living the dream.
My mother, being the first child and irrespective of gender had inherited her father's hunting empire, taking over many of his positions. My grandfather had built this mansion and it had remained a safe den for the extended family. Even when the daughters gets married, they can only leave for vacations with their families, they continued to live here with their husbands, tending to and looking after the family's empire and leading on the legacy. The Winters had that power.
Laying on my bed now, I could still remember that day like it was yesterday. My father had moved into the house too after marrying my mother. i remember him arguing with grandpa Gregory and then he walked into my room, kissed my head, and bade me goodbye before I watched him walk out and into his car. And he drove off. I had thought it was just a casual drive out of town and that he'd be back......but he never came back. I'd thought he'd be back the following day because he didn't pack a bag before leaving, but......he never did.
Mom never lets me find him. She says he's a drunk and that he left me. He left us. I still find it hard to wrap my head around that.
A firm knock sounded on my door and I raised my head from the comforter to look at the door. "Come in," I said loud enough and my door pushed open.
Nanny Cara walked in, pushing a trolley with a trey sitting on it. Nanny Cara has been taking care of me since I was little, she's like a second mother, the only person I've ever really felt connected to, with whom I shared my thoughts without remorse. at Seventy, she looks like she hasn't aged a bit since I learned to recognize her. Her grey hair has remained the same since day one.
"How was your day dear?" she asks with a smile as she places the trey beside me on the bed. I turned around and sat up on the bed to face her.
"It went well, "I replied carelessly "I guess"
She hands me a glass of water before reaching for the pills on the tray.
"You guess? Didn't Patrick make sure you had a nice day today?"
"No. He ruined it all. He beat up some innocent guy who was just passing by at the quarter, Cara. One thing led to the other and I broke up with him"
"Oh dear," she hands me four pills "did you tell your mother about it yet?"
"No. She doesn't have to know" I replied, staring at the yellow and white pills on the center of my palm. Just the sight of it made me nauseous. Why the hell am I still taking these pills again?
"My dear, you know your mother is going to be very upset with you if she finds out. Have you forgotten your last attempt to break up with him?"
Yeah. I could still remember perfectly. Five months ago I'd attempted to break up with Patrick. My mother found out and she had given me a slap that still resounded each time I thought about it. The following day, she'd set up a date for the two of us at a fancy restaurant. How could I forget that?
"Cara, I don't have the flu anymore" I tried to change the conversation.
"Just take these last ones," she pushed my hand towards my mouth " you don't wanna get sick to your birthday, do you?"
"Not like anybody cares about birthdays in this house" I mutter to myself, throwing the pills into my mouth and shutting my eyes as the stinging odour exploded in my throat. I quickly gulped down the water in my glass and tried to keep it down, praying not to throw up.
"Good night dear," she said calmly before wheeling the trolley out of my room. I let out a long sigh before rolling back onto my stomach.
The image of the guy from the quarter crosses my mind. How oddly strange.
////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
I forced my eyes open and stared out my open window for a second. Looking away, I searched through the walls of my room. Gently, I pull off my duvet and stepped down from the bed. School.
Grunting painfully, I matched over to my bathroom and did the usual routine before getting dressed. What would be more perfect to wear to a Monday school if it wasn't a pair of black skinny jeans and a crop top. I decided putting my hair up today would add a little to the Monday look. Slipping on my black flats, I swung my backpack over one shoulder and walked down.
Patrick is sitting on a leather couch talking with my Mom who's seated right opposite. Their heads turn towards me the moment I started to descend the stairs.
Pat smiled at me, rising up to his feet just before I reached the bottom floor.
"Alessia" my mom called.
"Good morning beautiful, "Patrick said to me.
I faked a smile and replied "good morning, Pat"
"You two are waiting for breakfast right?" my mom asked as she stands up too.
"No mom, I....."
"We have plans, Miranda, "Patrick cuts me off, stepping beside me "we'll eat breakfast on the way"
I gave Patrick a confused glance but he doesn't see me, his eyes are fixed on my mom.
"Very well then. Have a nice day at school"
I walk out before Patrick, his blue convertible car coming into view at the end of the long doorsteps. I helped myself get into the copilot seat before he sat behind the wheel. I wasn't in any mood to say anything to him. I'd thought he wasn't gonna come pick me up this morning and that somehow made me feel better. But here he was, looking radiant like I didn't just break up with him. What was he playing at?
He revved out of the compound and into the neighborhood street. The street was always quiet and a constant reminder of the zoo to me. The tall trees planted in beautiful patterns at each house's front yards, the quietness of the place. It was beautiful.
Just as we got to the third block at the opposite of my house, I heard the unmistakable voice of Tephanie White. I turned to the side to see her propped out of her window on the building's rooftop as Patrick slowed down.
"Assholes!!" she screamed.
I smiled tenderly. Honestly, I wonder what goes on in her head. Doing this every morning Patrick drives us to school has become such a norm to her that Ashley has thought that maybe she's psychologically unstable. But hey, we did go to the same school.
Tephanie White is known to live alone in the big mansion, for the past seven months now. Her parents are never around so she pretty much does whatever she wants. That's the life.
"Hey, hey, Patrick," she called "give me a ride, huh? I think my car broke down again!"
Patrick pops his head out through the window and screams back "you don't even have a license, Tephanie! And nope, not today!"
He sped off, crossing into the main road that led to school.
A twenty minutes ride suddenly seemed like an hour's ride as I watched the streets. The ride had been a silent one and regardless of its awkwardness, it was peaceful.
"Do you wanna eat first?" Patrick breaks the long silence.
"No, I'm gonna be late for science class" I replied.
He nods. He drove into the school's parking lot a minute later.
"Did you tell your mom?," Patrick said as I tried to get out of the car, causing me to stop "that we broke up"
"No, "I replied "I'm not telling her. Don't wait for me, I'll be going home with Ashley"
I stepped out and hurried up the long steps that led to the school hallway.
"We're late for first period, Lee" Ashley, my best friend asked with hands wide open, an exasperated look on her face as she stood at the end of the hallway.
"I'm sorry," I reached her "it's Monday anyways"
"Where's your boyfriend?" She asks as we started to walk towards science class. We were pretty much the couple around here. Patrick always went to class with me, even when he didn't have the same class with me. He was such a nosy nuisance, making trouble in my classes.
"I broke up with Patrick, Ashley"
She stops, pulling me into a stop too.
"What? You did?!"
"Yeah, big deal" I rolled my eyes at her, pushing the science class door open. She tries to pull me back as we both fell into the class but stopped as she saw the glare on the science teacher's face.
We quietly sat at the back, me making my best efforts to clear my mind off the thoughts about how I'd broken up with Patrick last night. Was I harsh on him? Of course not. I have not even the littlest ounce of feelings for him. Maybe two years ago, when we just started dating, I'd have thought he was cute and nice. But not anymore.
After first period, Ashley and I cornered the rooms and burst out through the hallway.
"I called you like a hundred times yesterday, how come you never picked up?" Ashley asked as we stopped before my locker "you said you were gonna come over. My dad got that awesome wine I told you about!"
I rolled my eyes at her as I pulled my locker open "I was at the quarter with Patrick, "I told her grimly.
"Patrick? You know there's a lot of things I don't know. Like why you ditched me to go to the quarter with Patrick. I mean you guys go there all the time! And why you broke up with him. How?"
I stared back at my best friend, wondering what to say to her or how to even say anything to her. Ashley has been my best friend since junior year. We've been through a lot together. While I wasn't a quiet type, Ashley was the timid and introverted one but her beauty was exquisite. I could count the number of top beautiful girls in this school and Ashley would fit in perfectly. Her black popstar hair always ran straight down her back. And she was the jeans and top type of girl. She hates heels. Yeah, she's a little nerdy but.....she was the one with the brains. She does my homework sometimes.
Sighing deeply, I replied "Patrick asked my mom if he could take me out after dropping me at home on Friday, Ashley. I was so mad at him"
"See? I told you you should've gone with me"
"Yeah. Then he beat up some guy at the quarter. He can be so mean and irrational! I left without him and he dropped by afterwards. That's when I finally broke up with him"
"Are you sure this time? Cause I can see you guys coming back together in the next......seven days maximum"
"Please, it's not like I actually love him" Ishut my locker close.
"Leesha, I'm really worried about you. I mean that" she said seriously "no one, and I mean absolutely no one but I is actually glad you finally broke up with him. But I think you should tell your mom that you don't wanna be with him. She's dictating everything for you. I mean, your love life too?"
"I know"
"That's exactly what I think, Ashley" a third person spoke from behind me and I fumed immediately. Just my cousin Allen, sneaking up on me again.
If I wasn't paying so much attention to Allen, I bet I would've missed how Ashley lowered her gaze embarrassingly.
Fully turning to him, I questioned "stop sneaking up on us, Allen"
"I was just passing by when I heard your conversation, Lee. It's no secret that you broke up with Patrick. Only a matter of time before the school finds out and you'll be in trouble," turning to Ashley, he added "I think she made a good choice too. That douche is a scumbag"
"Get out of here!" I pushed him away and he laughed before entering the nearest class.
Tephanie White walks into the hallway, making her presence known without even as much as saying or doing anything. Tephanie White was a beautiful Canadian girl. She was someone you'd describe as tall, sexy at most with a long baby face and deep raven black hair which she always kept down.
"You missed first-class, Tephanie," Ashley called as she passed us "again"
Turning back to us while still walking backward, she yelled "what do I care?!" before disappearing into the classroom.
"That girl has got to work on herself doesn't she?"Ashley said and I laughed.
My stomach made a thunderous rumble, reminding me that I haven't eaten anything all day.
"I really need to go to the cafeteria, "I told Ashley.
"Didn't eat?"
"You know what it is"
I started towards the cafeteria. Taking the stairs up towards the cafeteria, I made a sharp corner, my eyes fixed on the floor. I can swear that I had my eyes right in front of me when I bumped into something. Someone. Someone hard and strong.
I stumbled backwards, pushing Ashley a little, my bag knocked off my shoulder as I tried to regain my balance.
"I'm really sorry!"
The person whom I presumably bumped into exclaimed, his hands reaching out to steady me.
"It's okay..." I started saying when I looked up, only to meet a pair of dark eyes staring worriedly at me. I looked closely and I could swear that I'd seen those eyes before.
My eyes went wide in realization as I remembered those eyes.
He was the guy from the quarter.
Collin.
Collin. For a hundred years I've lived with the same memory of the same event. When I close my eyes, it's the same set of eyes. When I open to listening, it's the same high-pitched voice I hear.Moving to places whenever people started to catch on about our secrets was a thing that I always hated. But here in Fox, things suddenly seem so different. It's hard to ignore the voice inside my head that keeps whispering to me, telling me that our run is over, telling me that there's much more to find and love here, telling me my answers are all here. New Orleans had been a special place to be at and I'd stayed there for over many years before leaving for Tokyo. Being a werewolf, we always had to be on the low, hiding from our shadows, hiding from the events of the past that haunted us, hiding from mistakes that is a constant reminder that being a werewolf isn't a blessing, it's a curse. During your long lifeline, where always and forever is inevitable to you, you realize that's just punish
I sat behind the desk, peering into the computer in front. Alessia. The name remained a constant reminder of something, something that kept popping up in my head. And I just knew I had to meet her again. I didn't care what I had to do.I went on Facebook, trying to get to know more about her. Of course, when I typed Alessia, asides getting the spelling wrong severally, I got several people with the same name. It was frustrating. Just when I thought of giving up the search, Alessia Winters pops up in front of the screen. And I knew it had to be her instantly.Alessia Winters.I clicked on her profile and alas, the image of this woman on the displayed picture. She had her brown hairs in a ponytail, her shirt bearing the design of horizontal black and white strips, its ends tucking into a pale blue jeans rim. She has a smile on her perfectly pink lips, her eyes seeming much smaller as she smiled into the camera. At the corner end of her lip was a deepening point, like a little dimple. S
»»»Flashback«««He knew he couldn't make it, he felt his limbs go weaker and number, he felt his heart ponder within the walls of his chest, couldn't recognize his own breathing. But he ran anyway. The leaves in the woods slapped his face and bare arms as he continued to run, trying every possible way to meet the pace of his mother who ran ahead, her hand almost glued to his as she lead them through the bushes. The darkness always terrified him but he had no time to think about how dark the woods looked nor how much pain his feet were experiencing. He hadn't had the time to put on his shoes when his mother pulled him out of the house. But it's been forever since they started running. He didn't think the bad guys were still coming after them. But his mother won't stop running. He wanted to tell her to stop, to tell her he's tired but he could barely catch his breath.Suddenly, he could see through the trees from each sides as they continued to run. He could see the figures
"Why are we driving this bus to school again?" I asked again."Because, Collin, we can't go running off to school everyday with our super running abilities" Seth replied, earning a nod from Rodger."Okay, okay. Fine!. Whatever. " I replied."Now, " Rodger pounced on me, his hand falling over my shoulder and tucking me against him "tell me about today at school"I flipped him off my shoulder and made a super run into the house. The instant I appeared inside the sitting room, I came across Ester who had a bowl in her hands, apparently on her way to the kitchen."Wow!" she stops on track to steady the bowl on her hand. "Watch it Collin.""I'm sorry" I apologized, trying to find a stool to help myself with.Since moving to this place a couple of weeks ago, I've never really had a conversation with Ester. She knew I was completely against moving here in the first place and she wasn't aware that I actually started settling here. And that I met someone. Not that Alessia was someone I wanted
Alessia. How stupid right? How stupid that I smile foolishly at the thought of this new guy, Collin. The instant we parted ways in school, he was all I thought about throughout the day. There's just something about him. He's strange yet so...... loveable. We've only known each other for a whole day but I think about him like we've known each other for so long. There is something about him. Something spooky, especially when I look at his eyes. The way he stares at me, the way he speaks so flirtatiously, the way he knows what to say. It's like he could read my fucking mind and know exactly what I wanna say.Walking him through the school had been a lot more fun than I'd expected and when I had to leave, it kinda stung a bit. And now I'm back home looking forward to seeing him tomorrow. But I couldn't completely ignore this eerie feeling I have about him. Sure, he's super handsome and cute, loveable, just what every young girl would want in a guy but.....yeah, there's always a but. He sa
I quickly took a shower and dressed up in a yellow stripped white tank top and a faded blue pegged jeans. For the past months, I've been having trouble getting into my skinny jeans. I always manage to pull them up my thighs and then they stop right below my butt area. The wider ones fits after I've done a series of jumping for them to go over my butt but I can't do that anymore. The size of my butt has been increasing rapidly for the past months and I've developed a likeness for my other jeans like the mom jeans, boyfriend jeans and pegged jeans. They're easier for me to wear even though they still pretty much accentuated my butt size and hips curves. Not that I didn't enjoy the feeling though.I pulled my hair back into a low ponytail and grabbed my bag. I walked down the stairs to meet Patrick. He walks us out after bidding my mom goodbye before we got into his car and he drove out.I remained silent and looked straight to the road at the front as he drove out of our property and in
Collin. If I told Rodger that I was embarrassed of being seen walk out of his beat up truck, he'd probably think that I'm being stupid and also think that I'm hating his 'fiona' truck because there's a human girl I wanted to impress. Which is true. The instant his truck pulled up in front of the school, I cringed.Seth grabs my shoulder from the back seat and said "have a good time, bro! Don't forget to save some for me""Save what for you, dumbass?" Rodger asked, looking back to see Seth just like I did."You know... the human girls" he replied cluelessly. "What you two lookin' at me for?"Rodger looks back to the school, ignoring Seth and said "it'll be really fun to go in there and take four girls home with me"Shooting a quick glance at him, I replied "not the school, Rodger""Chill man," he turned a smirk at me "I think you found a girl and you're not telling us. And my big hunch is that she goes to this school""Exactly!" Seth joins in."I've never seen you so worked up about sc
Thirty minutes later, the bell was ringing for the end of class. I turned around in my seat to meet face to face with Alessia. She was in the process of hanging her bag on her shoulder."Hey" she said, a small smile forming on her lips."Hi" I smiled back."So we meet again" she said.I could hear her heart beat wildly and oddly enough, it drove me on edge."I had a feeling we were gonna be seeing more often" I replied and she smiled. How does she always do that thing with her lips?"Hi" the girl seated beside her said, her hand extended across the table to me "I'm Ashley Peters, Alessia's friend""Yeah, hi," I took her hand "it's nice to meet you"Shaking her hands, I could feel almost everything about her. She's a really timid person, a brainiac, a super nice and completely sweet person who has little confidence in herself. "Waw," she chuckled as she pulls her hand away "that's some really warm hands you got there""Thanks. I.....ah...I'm a really warm person" I replied, concerned
Author's POVThe room appeared tensed due to the awkward silence, none of them could bring themselves to speak. Charlie exhaled loudly, finally finding it in him to make a sound. He had received a call from Brenda asking him to come with Ester to the house. However, they had arrived and met about three unfamiliar people. Charlie couldn't tell if they were werewolves or humans. They could be any of the two, he would argue more human because there was no traces of the wolf scent in them. Only if they had mask it well enough. Neither Brenda or Damien had come down to attend to them yet and it was making Charlie feel impatient. Ester noticed her husband discomfort, she placed a hand on his knee to help him relax. "What's wrong?" She inquired. He gulped, "I don't know. I don't feel too good about coming here, what do you think is going on? It's too unnaturally quiet in here." "Just relax. It's not like there is anything to be worried about when it comes to Tephanie's parents. We have
Author's POVCarla hissed loudly into the receiver, she hated it when Brian tries his hardest to give her an excuse. She had heard Ryan talking about Tom found dead and she wanted to know of everything that the frat had discussed. But Brian wasn't divulging any information. "You wouldn't like what I would do to you Brian if I find out you have been fooling me. I hate being toyed with and you know. I guess there is no need for me to try explaining myself to you. What happened during your meeting?" Brian exhaled loudly on the other line, "don't talk to me like I am one of your son's friend or someone you feed. I am none of the two, so when I tell you what actually is the situation of things you learn to take it as it is. He is suspecting me already and you know how brutal he can be." "Brian, don't mess with me. Try your best to find out whatever it is Ryan might be planning. And I need every information tonight itself. Also, don't forget to let me know when the next heist would be ca
Author's POVRyan's eyes almost jutted out their sockets when he saw Tom lifeless on the floor. He had thought it was a joke when he had gotten a call from the frat to inform him of Tom's death. It seem so surreal. "You did this to cover for you and your family right?" Brian was the first to flare up, his usual way of acting. Jordan cut him a glare, "don't say something you might regret Brian. Ryan how did this happen?"Staring in disbelief, Ryan chuckled. "You all must really think I am this stupid. Why would I do this? It's obvious there is someone among us who is doing all of this and trying to pin it on me. And I can tell who is trying to mess around with me." Brian's heart thumped at that, he feared Ryan might have found out about his constant meeting with his wife. His palm became sweaty when Ryan's eyes lingered on him. "Don't give me that look." He muttered hurriedly. "Why? Are you the one making things up?" Ryan retorted. "Does one make death up?" Brian threw back at him
Collin's POVI could sense the discomfort in Patrick's voice, something was wrong and he wasn't doing much of a good job in hiding it. We were all seated at the school cafeteria for lunch, everyone chatting away. Ariel didn't seen to notice him because of the juicy gossip she was having with the rest of the girls. I noticed our table isn't exactly complete, Allen and Ashley aren't with us. My head seem to be completely filled with different thoughts, and I can't deny that I don't feel like having any form of long discussion. Alessia understood this and gave me my space, it was much more enjoyable watching her have fun and not necessarily involving my take. I felt a sudden tap on my shoulder, glancing at the direction of the touch. Patrick motioned with his head for me to come with him. I kissed Alessia hurriedly on the cheek, before going with him. "I see I am not the only one in a deep thought." He chuckled as we walked towards the schools football pitch. I shrugged, "sometimes t
Author's POVCarla loved her disguise, the use of the hooded red dress she had bought unintentionally years ago finally came in handy when she needed it the most. Coupled with the round glasses and heavy red lipstick on her lips, she could be mistaken for someone else. It's quite a hard task outsmarting someone who is watching ones every move. But she wouldn't let that deter her, she had reserved a sit in the most busiest restaurant in fox city. And the location seem perfect because; none of those who have the high probability of recognizing her would never be found in such place. When she got to the private booth she had on reserve, Brian was already seated with his head down sipping on his drink like a just released convict. He blinked rapidly when he saw her. "Welcome, Carla." He stuttered. She rolled her eyes, sitting down with a huff. "I need you to give me a full update to whatever the message you sent me was about."On her way back to the house she had received a text from B
Author's POVRyan watched in anger as the few members of the frat stood in the hallway of his home supervising the installation of cameras and recorders in the rooms. They had chosen to come at the exact time Carla and Patrick had left the house. Almost like they were spying on the family's move. When the men hired for the job left everyone of them had an access to the installments to ensure whoever hears or sees anything suspicious will let the others know. Jordan was the first to speak. "Everything is all set now Ryan. It's up to you to do exactly as you are told now without doing otherwise. If something is to change we have to take the bull by it's horns." He saidBrian snickered, "there is no need to trust him with it, we would have to stay behind to be sure he does what is expected of him."Ryan clenched and unclenched his fist, he would really have to rethink that thing called selfcontrol and punch the guts out of Brian. "You won't come around to disrupt my home and still exp
Alessia's POVThe music blasted in my eyes as I shot the arrows hitting it's target like I was on some sort of cruise. It made me feel calmer and happy. I should really do this more, my shooting isn't all that bad. I have just been too lazy to practice. "Wow, what are you on woman?" Allen sat next to me, as I rested with my arms stretched out on the grass. I snickered sitting up, "do you always have to comment on everything?" He shrugged, "I can't just help but notice, don't crucify me." I laughed, "what exactly have you don't this morning?" "Ran ten laps around the field. Caught my breath about a hundred times and now I feel like the most fit person in the entire universe." "You crazy being. When would you act your age?" I couldn't hold back the loud laugh. He joined in still resting on the grass, letting out a loud sigh when he caught his breath. "I am trying to take one step at a time." "What's the matter?" "Nothing." He said hurriedly"You are lying. That was too quick!"
Author's POV"He is sensitive, you should have been more careful with him." Charlie said looking displeased. Himself and wife with Brenda and Damien were sitted in the latter's study after excusing themselves from the dining table.Brenda shrugged maintaining her stand next to her sitted husband. "You can't blame me. There has to be a way to point this things out to him just in time. We never know when trouble will knock and from the look of things this evil doers are getting closer." "Maybe we were too harsh on him, honey." Damien admitted, "he is just a child that has endured so much in his life. We could have been more patient." "Patient you say?" Brenda retorted, "my child's life and future is also at stake here. Don't you think it has me worried.""By all means I feel the same way too." Ester flared. "You are so concerned about your own daughter, you intend to put my own son in a fix and have him doubt himself. So you know hard the nightmares are on him? He passes out when the
Collin's POVI can't seem to understand this sort of dinner where the hosts pry into your life and discuss it so openly like they know you closely. Why Tephanie's parents would question me like I was the one dating their daughter, seem to surpass my knowledge. To cap it all my parents sat down saying nothing, there was no doubt one of them had exposed me to Tephanie's parents. Charlie it might be, because he kept talking about how they were leaders of the watch and how important they are. Not to forget their protective body would help us last longer in the fox city.I hate being at people's mercy and most importantly people meddling into my personal life. I kicked at the grass angrily. My eyes scanning the car outside the gate, Tephanie's compound was filled to the brim with different type of cars. Its almost like a silent message to visitors not to bother driving in.If that wasn't the case, one member or two of the family is obsessed with their car collection. They have the most we
