Kate’s POV:
I broke away from Hilda’s hug, a shiver running down from my spine as I gazed upon my grandfather’s face.
“Alpha, I-” Hilda tried to speak up but grandfather raised his hand to silence her instantly.
He approached me with daunting steps, his black eyes fixated on me with anger. I tried to compose myself in front of him but the mere presence of him made me shaky.
“What are you doing here? Just because it was your birthday yesterday, does not mean you can skip your session.” he rebuked with a deep raspy voice.
His eyebrows were furrowed and the same disappointed expression he harbored for me was on full display.
My heart sank to the bottom of my chest as I failed to look grandfather in the eye. I did not want to attend the session but any protest I had would go unheard of by him.
Ever since I was 13, when I had not transitioned yet, grandfather did everything he could to help me get my wolf. But when nothing seemed to work, he thought beating the crap out of me would help get my wolf out of me.
He got our pack’s beta, Axl to torture me brutally in the dungeon for the past five years. On my grandfather’s orders, Axl had no mercy on me even if I was a mere child. He would beat me physically and abuse me mentally as well. There was not a single day that went by were I was not subjected to torture.
And today was no exception despite the nightmare I had already gone through.
“Alpha, please, let the girl rest for today.” Hilda requested while joining her hands . However, that did nothing but anger grandfather even more.
“I pay you to work here, not tell me what to do.” he snarled at her before grabbing a hold of my wrist and dragging me out of my room.
No matter how much I cried or squirmed, he did not care. He kept on dragging me hard until I accidentally cried out.
“He r-rejected me.”
Both my mind and body were subjected to a lot more emotions than I could handle. The fear within me, caused me to open my mouth even though I did not want to.
“What?! Nash rejected you?” he asked, grabbing my face with force.
“Yes. He did not want a wolfless she-wolf like me to be his Luna.” I cried as I revealed the bitter truth.
I could sense the rising anger that was building up inside my grandfather. Without a warning, he raised his hand and delivered a stinging slap across my cheek.
“This is the f*cking reason, I spent so many years trying to get your wolf out but what did I get for it? Nothing, absolutely nothing. And now you go ahead and f*ck up the only good thing you could give me as a granddaughter.” he spat out with hatred while his jaw clenched.
“Grandfather, I’m sorry.” I tried to apologize but he slapped me again.
“Enough! I don’t give a f*ck about your sorry.”
“Marrying Nash was the only thing you could’ve done to bring some form of dignity into our family, but you decided to ruin it. Did you ever think how ashamed I am right now to have a useless pathetic granddaughter like you?” he asked, his eyes shooting daggers at me.
I felt a tightness in my chest instantly as he mentioned that. I felt abandoned as I had no one, not even my own mother and father apart from my grandfather. But now, even my grandfather did not love me.
Tears spilled over my face as I mourned over my mother’s death. She died 4 months after giving birth to me. Everyone, including my own father, blamed me for her demise.
My father was so upset that he turned to alcohol to drown his sorrow but soon, he let it consume him entirely. Because he was an alcoholic and I was wolfless, my grandfather had to remain Alpha of the pack.
I always missed my mother and often wished that she could’ve taken me with her instead of leaving me to rot in this life.
“Hilda, get her ready. I’m sending this good for nothing to Umbra Academy. Hopefully, they can do something about her because I’m fed up.” he announced before walking away from me, not turning his back towards me for a second.
“Hilda, please don’t cry.” I sniffled, rubbing the lonesome tear threatening to fall off her face.
Instantly, Hilda held my hands in hers and warned with concern, “Kate, you can’t go to Umbra Academy. They’ll shred you alive over there.”
“I know, Hilda. But there’s nothing I can do. My fate is sealed.” I said with defeat, lowering my head.
Umbra Academy was a school for the elite of shifters and witches where they were taught how to rule and steer ahead in this power-hungry world. Although it seemed like a promising place, bullying and murder were often found to take place on its campus.
I was doomed before I even arrived there. A powerless wolfless she-wolf like me would not stand a chance.
“No it’s not. Here, take this and run away to the human world. You will be safe there and no one will treat you any different for not having a wolf. You’ll finally get the life you deserve.” Hilda said, handing me over an envelope that she fished out from her pocket.
Opening the envelope, I was shocked to gaze upon several dollar bills stashed inside.
“No, Hilda. I can’t accept this. This is your money and besides, even if I leave, grandfather will find me anywhere in the pack.” I said, handing over the envelope back to her.
“That’s exactly the reason why you should wait until you reach the Academy. It’s in the Umbra Pack. If you leave from there, the Alpha won’t be able to find out about this.. At least until you find a place to hide in the human world.” She pushed the envelope back to me, making a sob once again.
“Thank you so much for caring about me, Hilda.” I cried with gratitude. I did not know what I could have done without her in my life.
—-------------------------
The car halted as the guards carried out their inspection of the vehicle. I stared at the giant iron gates with the logo “Umbra Academy” erecting from the top.
My heart could not stop beating rapidly the entire journey and it increased even more once we entered the gates.
I stepped outside the vehicle and gulped as I scanned the entrance of the building.
The tall broad white cement columns combined with the gold decor gave the place an expensive luxurious appearance.
However, I knew exactly what lied below its neat mask.
“Welcome to Umbra Academy, Kate Harris. Your grandfather entrusted us to wip you into a powerful leader like himself. I can assure you that your experience with us will be like never before.” Stacy, the administrator of the academy spoke with a high confident tone.
With a meek appearance, I followed her around, clutching my backpack as I couldn’t help but feel uneasy in the academy’s premises.
I couldn’t shake the feeling as if someone was keeping an eye on me the entire time.
As I continued to follow Stacy, I let out a scream in pain as my body collided with someone in front of me.
I furrowed my eyebrows as I rubbed my nose, viewing the person in front of me.
I felt as though my breath was sucked away from me, the moment the man’s eyes fell on me.
He was tall, handsome and had a rugged look to his face. His deep brown eyes drove a shiver down my spine as it was fixated on me. He wore a black leather jacket over his gray shirt that struggled to conceal his rock hard muscular frame underneath.
“Hey! What are you doing? Apologize right now!” Stacy yelled as she ran towards me, forcing me to bow my head in front of the ominous man.
“S-sorry.” I let the word escape my lips as I grunted in pain over Stacy’s handling of me.
The man stared at me with a cold expression before turning around and walking away without uttering a single word.
“For the time that you’re here. Make sure you screw one thing into your tiny mind. Never disrespect Alpha Deimon Lombard like that. Do you get it?” Stacy held onto my shoulders, drilling her words into me.
I nodded obediently before my eyes landed on Deimon’s figure once again.
My nerves were tied in knots, knowing that the future Alpha of Umbra Pack also attended the Academy.
He was the strongest Alpha out there, with the power to kill a dozen werewolves with just his bare hands.
My heart couldn’t stay at rest knowing that a beast like him was near me.
Deimon’s POV:“Mate!” My wolf, Oynx called out in my mind as soon as that woman bumped into my chest.I wasn’t surprised by her as I was expecting her. Her scent of strawberries and pine filled my nostrils, completely intoxicating me in her presence.I remembered that petite face from 3 years ago at the Nascent Moon Pack. She was the same woman and hadn’t changed a bit.Standing behind the coloumn, I watched her as Stacy showed her way to the girls’ dormitory in the nearby building.I crept near her as she headed upstairs, dragging her tiny suitcase along with her. She looked terrified like she didn’t want to be here but that didn’t matter to me.Even though she was my mate, I did not feel anything for her. There was no place for a wolfless she-wolf like her in my life, as I had already been engaged with a powerful she-wolf, Monica. She was going to be my Luna, and I was looking forward to the right time in rejecting and killing that wolfless woman.Suddenly, my nose caught a hold of
Kate’s POV:Although it was sweet of her to assure me of a better future, I knew that was far away from the truth."But how? Everyone will treat me badly here when they find out I don't have a wolf. I can't escape from it," I said, lowering my head in defeat.I was born with a fate that was as cruel as it could be. There was no escape from it, not before and certainly not now.Noticing my dismay, Anna bought upon a warm smile on her face, and instantly lifted my chin."That's an easy problem to solve. If you'd like, I can easily hide your wolfless aura, and no one will know a thing," she suggested, brightening up my gloomy face.“Wait, you can do that?” I asked, staring at her in confusion.“Of course, I can. I’m a witch. You see this stone on my necklace? It’s a stone that only us witches possess. With my spell, I’ll be able to hide your aura and then no one would want to even bully you.” she explained, holding her necklace near my sight.I couldn't help but be very grateful for her
His warm breath brushed against my skin, making my heart beat even faster. I could feel the temperature of my body rise as he gently brushed his finger against my cheek.I felt like I was frozen, a tingling sensation running through my body. I didn’t know what I was feeling, but it wasn’t like anything I had felt before. As I tried to compose myself, Deimon’s face began to draw near. His lips dangerously close to mine. I wanted to protest, but I couldn’t bring myself to do so at the same time.“I believe this is my drink, waitress.” he said, his deep husky voice captivated me.“Woah, what the f*ck do you think you’re doing? That’s my drink” Chris’ angry voice suddenly filled the entire room, distracting both Deimon and me.The music of the party shut off and everyone stopped dancing, their focus fixated on the three of us.“Just because you’re the Alpha of this pack doesn’t mean you can walk in here and do whatever the f*ck you want,” Chris protested angrily, gaining the attention of
As we made our way downstairs, Kate managed to pull her hand out of my grip as soon as she caught sight of Joey.He had a black afro with a thick beard. He was the bar’s owner and also happened to be a friend of mine.“Sir, I’m so sorry for disappearing in the middle of service. I-““Oh Kate. You don’t have to worry about it. Deimon informed me that you weren’t feeling well and wanted to take the rest of the evening off. I’ve already approved your leave so you can go ahead.” Joey informed her after taking a glance at me, catching Kate off guard. She turned her gaze towards me, meeting my cold one.“You don’t have any more excuses now.” I whispered in her ears before I pulled her away once again, not feeling at ease until she was out of the premises.“Get back to your dorm. I better not find you anywhere outside, did you get it?” I yelled in an authoritative tone as I flung her outside the bar’s entrance.“But-“ she tried to protest but I slammed the door on her face.I made my way ins
“Yes sir, I understand. Thank you.” I said nonchalantly, before turning around and walking away, silently.I opened the door to my dorm quietly, as I feared disturbing Anna in case she was fast asleep.“Back so soon?” I heard Anna’s surprised question escape her lips as soon as I entered my dorm, putting my bag on a chair. She wasn’t asleep, in fact she was wide awake, working on something on her laptop.“I wasn’t feeling well so I took a leave for the rest of the evening.” I continued the same lie that Deimon forced on me, not wanting to alert Anna. She had already done so much for me that it would be unfair for her to learn more about my problems, especially since she was the only reason I was able to get a job at the bar.I did not want her to think that my life was getting complicated because of it, especially since I greatly depended on my salary there.Upon hearing about my sickness, Anna took her laptop out of her lap and placed it on her bed before approaching me with a worrie
Kate’s POV:As she nodded, I took a moment before asking with a desperate tone, "It's a bit sudden, but can you please help me escape the academy by tonight? I can't stay here any longer; I need to leave."Anna furrowed her brows, shocked by my sudden request. I began explaining everything regarding the plan Hilda had shared with me before I was sent to the academy.I had given it deep thought during the night. Although I initially wanted to gather a bit more money before leaving, I decided not to prolong this any further. I didn't want to wait for Deimon or anyone to make my life any more difficult. The longer I stayed in the academy, the more I felt on the edge of my seat. After a moment of silence, Anna expressed concern, saying, "I mean, I can, but how will you leave? This place is crawling with security guards, and I don't think your grandfather will be happy if he learns you tried to run away and got caught.""I have some money... I can offer it to some of the guards," I suggest
Kate’s POV:I clutched the straps of my backpack, swallowing hard as my eyes locked onto Chris. He glanced at me from his seat, his jaw clenching, and his hands forming tight fists itching to reach me.The anger burning in his eyes made it seem like he wanted to kill me right then and there. As I hesitated at the classroom entrance, Anna hurried back to my side before I could proceed any further.“What’s wrong, Kate? They can’t know that you don’t have a wolf, remember? My spell will protect you, so it's okay. Come on in,” Anna spoke in a hushed voice, sensing my distress. While I understood that my lack of a wolf wouldn't be a significant issue due to the spell, I also realized it wouldn't shield me from Chris' wrath.I hadn’t known before if Chris blamed me for what Deimon had done to him, but judging by his intense glare, it seemed likely. It pained me to see that, especially since I had no control over Deimon.Nervously nodding at Anna, I followed her into the classroom, aware of
Kate’s POV:I found myself frozen, as if anticipating the sensation of his lips on mine, recalling how it felt the previous night. I was unsure of my actions, unable to stop cursing myself internally. It was if my heart was betraying my mind, a feeling that I was unable to comprehend. As Deimon drew dangerously close, we were abruptly interrupted by a voice from outside the cave.“Deimon? Deimon?” Monica's voice called out, capturing both of our attention. It shook me from my train of thought, taking me back to the real world.Deimon released his grip on me, his gaze shifting from my lips to the cave's entrance. My head was still lowered, as I made myself stand on my own two feet. I brushed my lips with my finger, the feeling of his touch still imprinted on them.I was still recovering from the recent events when Deimon reverted to his cold demeanor, catching me off guard."Get to the flag while I check on her," he ordered, turning away and walking without sparing another glance at me
"We can’t trust them anymore," one of the dissenters was saying. "This alliance is going to destroy us. We need to take control before it’s too late.""And what about Kate?" another voice asked. "She’s the key to all this. If we take her out, Deimon will crumble."Kate’s breath caught in her throat. The betrayal was more profound than she had imagined. But before she could process it further, Deimon stepped forward, revealing himself to the group."What do you think you’re doing?" he demanded, his voice low and dangerous. The dissenters froze, their eyes wide with shock. But it was the figure at the center of the group that caught Kate’s attention—the one she had seen in her vision. It was Garrick, the wolf who had voiced his doubts earlier that day."Garrick," Deimon said, his voice filled with disbelief and anger. "How could you?"Garrick met his gaze, unrepentant. "This is bigger than you, Deimon. Bigger than any of us. The pack’s survival is at stake. You’re too blinded by your lo
“They’ve resurfaced,” Anna continued, her voice tight with urgency. “And they’ve teamed up with the rival Alpha. They’re after the Luna’s Tear, yes, but that’s not all. They need you, Kate.”“Me?” Kate’s voice was barely above a whisper.Anna nodded, her gaze softening with sympathy. “Your bloodline, Kate. It traces back to the first Luna, the one who originally wielded the Luna’s Tear. It’s said that only her descendants can fully unlock its power. They need you to gain that power.”Deimon’s grip on the edge of the table tightened, his knuckles turning white. “So this isn’t just about uniting the packs. They want to use Kate as a weapon.”“Exactly,” Anna confirmed. “They believe that with the Luna’s Tear and Kate, they can control not just the packs, but the entire supernatural world. They’ll stop at nothing to get what they want.”A heavy silence fell over the room as the weight of Anna’s words settled in. Kate felt a storm of emotions swirling within her—fear, anger, a deep sense o
Kate stirred awake, the first light of dawn filtering through the heavy curtains of their bedroom. She felt the warmth of Deimon’s body beside her, his arm draped protectively over her waist. For a moment, she allowed herself to stay still, savoring the peacefulness of the morning, a rare moment of calm before the chaos of the day would begin. As if sensing her thoughts, Deimon tightened his hold on her, pulling her closer. "Good morning," he murmured, his voice still heavy with sleep.Kate turned in his arms to face him, her heart fluttering at the sight of his familiar features, softened by the early light. "Morning," she whispered back, her lips curving into a small smile. "Did you sleep well?"He brushed a strand of hair from her face, his fingers lingering on her cheek. "With you by my side? Always."She laughed softly, a sound that seemed to lighten the air between them. "You always know just what to say.""It’s the truth," he replied, his voice serious now. "Every day with you
The dawn of a new day bathed the Academy grounds in a soft, golden light. Kate stood in the clearing, feeling the energy of the Luna’s Tear coursing through her, amplifying her newfound powers. Deimon stood beside her, his presence a comforting anchor.“Alright, Kate,” he said, his voice steady and encouraging. “Let’s see what you can do.”Kate closed her eyes and focused, letting the energy flow through her. She felt the air around her shift, responding to her will. With a flick of her wrist, she manipulated the light and shadows, creating intricate patterns in the air. Deimon watched with awe and pride, and Kate could feel his support bolstering her confidence.“You’re getting better every day,” he said, smiling.“Thanks to you,” she replied, meeting his gaze. “Your belief in me makes all the difference.”Their training sessions had become a daily routine, drawing the attention of others at the Academy. Whispers of Kate’s abilities spread, and soon, instructors and students alike be
Kate sat cross-legged on her bed, the old leather-bound journal resting on her lap. The faded gold lettering on the cover read “Erica,” her mother’s name. Her fingers traced the letters as she took a deep breath, feeling a strange mix of excitement and trepidation. This journal held the secrets of her family’s past, secrets that could change everything she knew about herself.Deimon entered the room, his presence steady and reassuring. He noticed the journal and sat beside her, placing a comforting hand on her shoulder. “Are you ready?” he asked softly.Kate nodded, her resolve firm. “Yes. Let’s find out what my mother had to say.”Opening the journal, she began to read aloud. The first entries were mundane, detailing everyday life, but as she turned the pages, the tone shifted. Her mother’s words grew more urgent, more desperate.***July 10, 1995I’ve kept this secret for so long, hidden from everyone, even my own family. The connection to the Umbra Pack is deeper than anyone knows.
The news spread like wildfire throughout Umbra Academy. Gandal, the future Alpha of the Norse Pack, had issued a challenge to Deimon, seeking to test his strength and authority. Jealousy and ambition had driven Gandal to this point, and now the entire Academy was abuzz with anticipation.Deimon stood in the training room, his thoughts racing as he prepared for the duel. Kate and their allies were gathered around, their support a steady source of strength.“Are you sure about this?” Kate asked, her voice laced with concern. “Gandal is known for being ruthless.”Deimon nodded, meeting her worried gaze. “I have to do this. It’s not just about me; it’s about proving our strength and leadership. If I back down now, it’ll send the wrong message.”Kate sighed, her eyes filled with a mix of fear and determination. “Just be careful. I can’t bear the thought of losing you.”Deimon reached out, cupping her face in his hands. “I promise, I’ll be careful. And I’ll win.”Killian clapped a hand on D
As the days passed, Anna continued her investigation into the Crescent Order. She occasionally updated Deimon and the others on her progress, though the information was still limited. One evening, she came to them with a particularly intriguing lead.“I’ve spoken with a few contacts,” Anna said, her eyes sparkling with excitement. “There’s a rumor that the artifact they’re after is an ancient relic known as the Luna’s Tear. It’s said to grant immense power to whoever possesses it.”Killian frowned. “What kind of power?”Anna shrugged. “The legends are vague, but it’s believed to enhance the abilities of its holder, making them nearly invincible. If the Crescent Order gets their hands on it, they could dominate all the werewolf packs.”Kate looked at Deimon, her face set with determination. “We can’t let that happen.”“We won’t,” Deimon said firmly. “But we need more information. Keep digging, Anna. We need to know exactly what we’re dealing with.”Anna nodded, her determination clear.
The sun was setting, casting a fiery glow across the horizon. Deimon stood on the balcony of his apartment, staring out at the sprawling grounds of Umbra Academy. It was a place of power and prestige, but also one of danger and deceit. Recent events had only reinforced that truth.Inside, Kate was probably unpacking the last of her things. Since she had moved in with Deimon and Killian, the place had felt different—warmer, more alive. Despite her being wolfless, there was something about her that drew him in. His wolf, Onyx, was particularly intrigued by her. Restless now, Onyx paced in the back of Deimon’s mind, urging him to claim and protect her.Deimon turned his thoughts to the task at hand. Anna had asked to speak with him urgently, hinting she had information about Kate’s tormentors. He didn’t trust Anna completely, but she had proven herself a valuable ally. Her intelligence network within the Academy was unparalleled.A knock on the door brought him back to the present. Turni
The rooster's crow pierced the pre-dawn darkness, a harsh alarm clock that jolted Deimon awake. He sat up abruptly, the events of the previous night crashing down on him like a tidal wave. Shame burned in his gut, the memory of the Earthstalker's lifeless eyes a constant reminder of his savagery. But amidst the self-loathing, a spark of hope flickered. Kate's gentle touch, her unwavering trust – they were a lifeline thrown to him in the storm. He had a lot to make up for, but for the first time, he felt a clear path forward. He needed to see Anna. He needed answers, not just about Kate's tormentor, but about the darkness that had consumed him during the competition. Throwing on his clothes, he raced out of the hut, the cool morning air a welcome slap against his feverish cheeks. As he sprinted towards the training grounds, a memory surfaced, sharp and unexpected. It was Anna, her voice a low murmur in his ear, just before the start of the competition. "Win, Deimon," she'd whispered,
