The ride to Silver Moon’s territory wasn’t the longest trip Daniel had endured but it was still long. The further north they travelled, the more wild and untamed the landscape seemed to get. The sun had disappeared over night and the Hellhounds had headed out under granite grey clouds that hung thick and heavy over the land. The wind had picked up, wet and cold and biting into any exposed flesh without apology.

They passed towns and cities, each smaller than the last until it seemed there was no life left out on the moors except the handful of men and women on bikes and in trucks. They were speeding down the road which sliced through the never-ending blanket of grey boulders covered in pale moss and rust coloured flora that dipped and rose like waves, frozen in time. The road was surprisingly well paved despite its remoteness, the black asphalt shot off into the distance and eventually disappeared from view under the looming mountain range.

It was getting dark by the time the first signs of the Silver Moon’s territory came into view. The light turned blue as the last dying rays of the sun tried and failed miserably to cut through the thick cloud. The wind had picked up considerably and the scent of sea air hit them as they closed in on the pack house. Even all these miles away from the coast Daniel could tell the sea was rough, wild, unpredictable and dangerous.

'We have company.' Slade muttered through the mind-link.

Glancing in the mirror of his bike, Daniel spotted the black vehicles following them. They maintained a respectable distance as did the wolves now running across the moor, following them towards their destination. A lazy bend in the road led them across the side of a hill and within seconds the land opened up to show the Silver Moon pack’s home spread across surprisingly flat land that was a patchwork of greens and blacks. The floodplain sat cuddled between steep rising hills on one and ran off until it hit the coast.

It wasn’t hard to spot the pack house. It was an unusual shape, like an asterisk made of natural grey stone and a red roof. Spread out around the Packhouse with no rhyme or reason were smaller buildings. Some were detached and settled comfortably into the lush green land while others were semi-detached. Warm specks of light dotted the road leading up to the Packhouse and in the windows of the cottages and homes hinting at life within the walls of the quaint looking houses.

'I didn’t think these hippies knew what electricity was.' Someone muttered through the mind-link.

'Shut-it Luke.' Slade replied but not before a few amused chuckles echoed on the waves.

It took another fifteen minutes before the travelers slowly rolled into the entrance of the pack house grounds, the growl of the engines roaring through the frigid winter air. The vehicles following them never let up however the wolves they had seen were now gone having broken away when they reached the first building.

Rolling to a stop on the gravel of the Packhouse’s drive, Daniel was very aware of the dozens of pairs of eyes on him and the others. It seemed the whole pack had made an appearance to welcome them. A soft scent sat in the air, Daniel’s picking it up the minute he pulled down the scarf he had used to help keep his face warm. It was faint but he could pick up the delicate but distinct notes of pear, bergamot and vanilla. The scent perked Daniel’s wolf up instantly. Hades was rarely interested in anything except proving he was top dog and sleep but Daniel could picture the large black wolf now, his ears perked, amber eyes still but his black nose twitching as if trying to figure something out.

“Slade Wolfe!” A male voice boomed, breaking the silence. “As I live and breathe!”

Daniel watched curiously as a man with fiery red hair and a matching beard practically stormed down the steps of the pack house entrance.

“Axl Larson! Are you still alive?” Slade met the man for a bear hug, patting each other on the back.

“Can’t get rid of me that easily. Trust me, Nora has tried.” The man who was called Axl replied with a playful smirk and accent that Daniel guessed was Norwegian.

There was something familiar about the man but Daniel had little time to question it as the giant doors of the pack house opened and several men and women of different ages stepped out headed up by a woman with smooth skin the colour of coffee. She was dressed in a vibrant green and gold flowing kaftan which was cinched at the waist by a gold plated belt. Her mass of espresso coloured girls were pulled back and sat on top of her head. It didn’t take a rocket scientist to work out this was Eshe but then again, Daniel had seen plenty of pictures of her. She seemed to have never aged. Her onyx eyes were bright and wonderful, sparkling in the light that bathed the congregation.

"Alpha Slade Wolfe, it is so good to see you again after all these years." Eshe spoke, her voice warm with the hint of an accent.

"Eshe, it's been so long." Slade was being uncharacteristically warm, giving the petite woman a hug before lifting a hand to his son. "You remember Daniel."

"I do!" The woman gasped and took Daniel's hands in hers, her eyes sparkling mysteriously as she regarded the young man. Daniel instantly felt a calming energy spread through his hands and up his arms. "You were just a baby when I last saw you and now you are all grown up looking and acting every bit the Alpha you are."

"Well not Alpha yet." Daniel replied.

"Ah yes," the elder gave a knowing look. "My child, the goddess sent me a message for you about a gift that you are ready to receive. Come, there is someone you need to meet."

The whole situation felt strange to Daniel. He wasn't used to seeing people look at him or his pack with kind eyes. There was no fear, no judgement, no malice or suspicion. Everyone was warm as if welcoming home long lost friends.

With Kade at his side, Daniel followed Slade and Eshe into the pack house. It was fairly light and modern with cream walls and light wood beams and trim. The hallway opened up into the central part of the building where werewolves were milling around, some in black uniforms and others in civilian clothing. There was seating and plants and art giving it a grand but welcoming feel. The further they walked the more intoxicating the scent grew. It wrapped around Daniel like a breeze, teasing and luring. He felt his heart racing a little and a flutter in his chest as his limbs moved on their own accord to follow an invisible trail to some unknown but anticipated destination.

They came to what looked like a dining hall. Daniel thought he could smell food but he didn't care as his eyes scanned the new faces as if looking for something but he could fathom what.

Then he saw her.

Time seemed to stand still as Daniel registered the woman. Her reddish auburn hair was in a ponytail putting her heart shaped face on display. Her almond shaped eyes were hazel but gave her a feline quality despite the fact she was clearly a werewolf. Her skin was creamy and smooth and her full lips opened softly in surprise as she felt the bond click between them just like Daniel did. It was practically audible, like someone snapping the last piece of a puzzle into place.

"Daniel, this is Eva…" Eshe began speaking but Daniel wasn't listening.

He couldn't feel himself moving but with a few long strides, he was in front of the mysterious woman, his heart was racing and a primal part of him propelled him forward on instinct. For a moment she looked like a deer in the headlights when one of Daniel's gloved hands grabbed her arm, the other cupping the back of her neck gently. His eyes dilated as the bond strengthened, his human and wolf instincts giving in naturally to the spell.

"You're the one." He growled as he stared into her eyes, ignoring the shocked gasps from everyone witnessing the moment and the knowing smile on Eshe's face.

"Eva is your mate." The Ouma confirmed, announcing to the whole room proudly. "Your gift from the goddess herself."

Eva had been feeling strange since she woke that morning. A flurry of anxiety had settled in her chest for much of the day like she had drank too much coffee. It wasn't overwhelming but the feeling did grow slowly as the hours ticked by. She eventually chalked it up to needing a good run, something she wouldn't be able to do until after their guests had arrived so she buried herself in making sure everything would be ready for when the Hellhounds rolled in that evening. When it had been time to meet downstairs, Eva had cleaned herself up in her mother's office. She had wanted to wear her uniform as a sign of her place with the other warriors but Nora had insisted on something a little less military looking so instead she pulled on a pair of black skinny jeans and a long sleeved tee. She didn't see the point in getting dressed up, the main gathering would be tomorrow. Tonight was about welcoming the guests and getting them settled. The we

Stepping off the bus, Eva sighed tiredly as she followed the crowds to the terminal. It had been two weeks since she had left Silver Moon territory. She hadn't been in touch with anyone despite desperately missing her family, Maria and Duncan. The guilt of leaving without a word still hung heavy on her shoulders but was not heavy enough to quash the dread of accepting Daniel Wolfe as her mate. She was acutely aware that she had no way of knowing if the Hellhound Alpha had left Silver Moon and thus making it safe to return but her gut told her that he wouldn't just leave, not after Eva had embarrassed him by practically rejecting him.Inverness wasn't Eva's original destination of choice but she feared crossing the border would draw attention especially since she wasn't sure which towns and cities were run by Hellhounds. She hadn't exactly made it her life mission to learn about the Hellhounds pack's territory. Also she wanted to stay as

Tomatin was definitely small but it had a bed and breakfast and that meant Eva had somewhere safe to lock herself away for a few days until her heat passed. So far she hadn't sensed any werewolves but that didn't mean they weren't around. Luckily humans didn't react to a werewolf in heat so it wasn't like Eva would have to avoid all contact, definitely a relief given that Eva didn't think she could stay locked up in a room for three days straight.Dumping her bag on the small lumpy bed, Eva decided a shower was in order and then something to eat. She had spotted a cafe down the road and the thought of hot food instead of packaged sandwiches or rabbits she caught when in wolf form was too inviting to miss out on.Clean and dressed in fresh clothing, Eva grabbed her room key and headed out to find the cafe.15 minutes down the road she found the white cottage with a pavement sign by the gate announci

Morning came all too quickly. Eva knew she had no choice but to face the music. Maria couldn't hide her forever and her parents would be worried.Nursing a cup of coffee at the kitchen table in Maria's home, Eva silently formulated a plan on how she was going to deal with the day. It didn't make her feel any better but it meant she had some control of the narrative. She'd head home first to freshen up and change. Hopefully her parents were still there so she could talk with them.Despite the fact that the conversation would probably be difficult, Eva knew that it was going to be the easiest part of her day. Once she had her parents onboard, she would speak with the Ouma and then look to reject Daniel as her mate. All being well she'd send him packing by the end of the day and Eva could go back to her life. However that plan fell apart the moment she stepped into her parents cottage.Insta

Daniel had no idea if this evening would work but after his meeting with Eshe and Axl he knew he had to try. The collective secret shared by everyone except Daniel was becoming a dark cloud, hanging around like an unwelcome guest. It didn't take a rocket scientist to work out something was amiss but no one dared to speak about it or simply didn't want to. Then again Daniel had to admit he hasn't actually asked, at least not directly. He had found out little about Eva but one of the things he had found out was she was a sucker for chicken nuggets and a bottle of beer. So, that's where Daniel would start silently hoping that bribery with food and alcohol would set their ship back on the right path.He had only just sat down when the door to the packhouse bar opened. It wasn't as big as the one back on Daniel's territory but it was empty, the manager kindly agreeing to let Eva and Daniel have the place to themselves for the evening.

Three days had passed since Daniel and Eva's date. Despite Daniel being prickly and standoffish at the best of times, Eva had to secretly admit she had enjoyed the evening. The fact Daniel went out of his way to learn something about Eva had impressed her and she was starting to think there was more to the Alpha than met the eye. However, since that evening they hadn't seen much of each other. Eva had opted to hide out in her room as her heat passed and Daniel had explained he was going to be busy for a few days. That meant only a few brief conversations and texts. Eva thought she would be relieved but instead she felt out of sorts, like she couldn't think straight without Daniel around.Even Kalla seemed miserable away from her mate and had hardly perked up when Eva decided a shift was in order. It had been almost four days since their date and Daniel hadn't heard or seen Eva. She wasn't responding to texts or answering his calls. He feared she had run again but her scent lingered around her home as if she had just been there.Despite this, the world was still turning and the day when the two packs merged was drawing near. Eshe had made her final preparations to step down and leave. The council had been formed and now all that remained was announcing to the packs the changes. The problem was Daniel didn't want it to happen until Eshe had spoken to Eva personally but it had been a week already and that didn't seem to be happening. So while trying to get Eva to speak to him, Daniel had reluctantly agreed to move forward with plans to bring the two packs together. That in itself was a mammoth task. <<Five years later>>The soft sound of fussing roused Eva from her peaceful slumber, the tired she-wolf opening her hazel eyes to take in the setting of the master bedroom. Outside, an Indian Summer was in full swing with golden vanilla light pouring in playfully from the french doors across the room from the large bed Eva was currently sprawled in, her body aching dully on the soft white sheets. The fussing sound started again and Eva lifted her body carefully from the bed, auburn locks spilling over her shoulders and milk-heavy breasts. In her mind Kalla rose from the darkness to see through Eva’s eyes as she approached the cot, peering at the tiny bundle wrapped up in a soft blue onesie and blanket.“Hello you,” Eva cooed to the newborn as he kicked his covered legs, tiny button nose wrinkling. “Oh my little warrior, are you hungry? Hush now, mummy’s here.”She lifted the infant gently, cradling him as sh

They made love over and over until the sun finally came up painting the sky in buttery vanillas and neon oranges. They were exhausted and hurt all over but they couldn't stop smiling. They let Hades and Kalla out to race back home, letting their natural navigation system lead them to where they belonged. The two wolves enjoyed the freedom, chasing each other and rolling around as they played. Their paws thundered across the earth as they yipped like two juveniles until finally they made it close to the township. Their howls were replied to by a chorus of howls, the song filling the air as wolves of all ages came to greet Kalla and Hades, the sense of relief and joy washing through the pack like cleansing waters. News of the Alpha's return and their victory over the forces working against them spread quickly but there were still so many questions in need of answering. Kade was sitting on the steps of the pack house when Daniel and Eva approached after shifting back and pulling on some

‘This is it. This is how we are going to complete the mating processing.’ Eva thought bleakly, her eyes wide as she watched her mate let out a deafening howl, his eyes glowing like pools of melted gold. In that moment Daniel looked demonic, his hair pitch black and skin an unearthly paleness under the moonlight that poured in from broken windows and holes in the crumbling roof. The earth seemed to shudder in submission as the alpha roared and Eva thought her eardrums would burst from the sound. Then, Daniel moved at what felt like faster than the speed of light, lifting Eva off of her feet and speeding off into the darkness with his prize. A small scream escaped from Eva as Daniel burst out into the clear night air, sprinting across sprawling fields and under the thick canopy of the forest effortlessly. Eva had no idea what was happening

The sound of someone else surprised both Ethan and Eva before the metal pole Ethan had abandoned earlier smashed into Ethan's skull with a dull crack. The force threw the blonde male off of the female under him with a grunt, air suddenly rushed into Eva's burning lungs causing her to cough and roll on to her side in time to see Maria drop the pole with a metallic bang and a small dark brown wolf charge at Ethan, pouncing on him in a series of snarls and growls. The size of the beast made Eva think it was a juvenile and while there seemed to be no grace to its attack, the bared white teeth and pink gums and angry copper eyes showed spirit as the lithe wolf dodged any attempts Ethan made to strike it."Eva!" Maria crouched next to her friend, breaking Eva’s dazed attention on the fight scene in front of her. "Oh goddess are you hurt?"

The growl rumbled through the dilapidated building like thunder, the ground and walls seemingly vibrating with the intensity of it. Eva didn’t need to turn around to know who was responsible for the sound. They way the vibrations ran through her, scorching her blood told her that Daniel was awake. Her body reacted instantly; chills ran across her skin and the familiar ache in her core nearly took her breath away. Her heat had been forgotten whilst trying to take down Ethan but now it roared into life, her skin sizzling with electricity as the scent of her arousal flooded the space around her.Now she had two males to worry about.Another growl erupted from Daniel, nostrils flaring as he instinctively breathed in the heady scent of Eva’s heat. The moment Ethan stepped towards Eva with the syringe with the milky substance in it, Eva let out a warning growl, her eyes flashing a predatory yellow as Kalla pushed to try and take over. Eva knew Kalla was the stronger form but the wolfsbane still hadn’t cleared her system fully and there was no chance she'd be able to take on three full-strength males in either form. That didn’t stop Eva from kicking out when Ethan got close, the heel of her boot slamming into his knee with a sickening snap.Ethan howled in pain, his leg bent at an angle as he staggered back from the force, his eyes flashing at the female in rage, baring his teeth as he seemed to struggle to keep control of his wolf. Breathing in deeply, Ethan stilled, his eyes closing as he calmed himself down as if flipping a switch inside of him. After a moment, he pushed his leg back into place with another sickening crack before it healed at the wrong angle. The sound was enough to mak

The remnants of the tranquilizer and wolfsbane in Eva’s system made her limbs feel like jelly and her head spun with any sudden movement. Ethan didn’t seem to care though as he dragged the female onto her feet before pulling her after him with an iron grip on her bicep. Eva had no choice but to follow despite stumbling over her own feet and the uneven ground. Even with heightened senses, Eva struggled to make out where they were. She could tell they were no longer on pack land as she wasn’t able to connect with anyone via the mind-link but even then, the wolfsbane would make it difficult to create a link with anyone.Eva couldn’t help but wince when she was suddenly shoved through a door roughly and found herself in another room that looked like an abandoned garage lit by a couple of camping lanterns that cast long shadows across the walls and ground. When Eva came to speak with Bethan about the night of the attack for a second time, Bethan knew time was running out. Her question about the Mad Alpha had sent Bethan down memory lane so dark and jaded even though she denied having heard the title before. She had been lying of course. While Michael had pretty much ignored Bethan to the point that she believed he didn't know she existed, Bethan had heard the old man's stories whenever he was drunk. He had earned his title in the same way Ethan intended to earn his; with misery, fear and murder. There was some irony in the situation. Ethan had hated Michael with a burning passion for as long as Bethan could remember. Ethan believed he was nothing like their father and everything he had stood for. He believed he was stronger and smarter and in many ways this was in fact true. But

“What the hell!” Eva yelped, instantly retaliating with a fist to the male’s nose.Ethan grunted as he doubled over, hands covering his nose as dark red rivulets of blood began seeping between his fingers and dripping onto the forest floor. Eva didn’t hang around to see the flash of black eyes as she ripped the needle from her arm and darted back towards the pack. She barely made it two steps before Ethan was on her, tackling Eva to the floor. She hissed from the impact of hitting the earth, struggling against the male while he tried to restrain her. Growling, she brought her knee up sharply between Ethan's legs, the wolf above her grunting in pain. It was enough of a distraction to allow Eva to push Ethan off of her and scramble to her feet.
