Katara's POV

We arrived at Santina's place late.

We walked several miles that my knees began to buck. Santina had continued to walk in front of us, impassive to my plight, until Kai had offered to carry me.

"You've been grunting and sighing, Katara…what's wrong?"

He asked tenderly, once again, laying bare his tender side before me.

"My feet hurts. I feel dizzy and might not be able to walk any further.”

I said nonchalantly, expecting Santina to stop walking ahead and show concern but she didn't.

"We have to get to Santina's tribe. We have to be safe before we stop, please, endure a little more and we'll be there soon."

He said as a matter of fact. He was certain we would be there soon and it amused me despite my state, my tiredness and frustration.

"Santina has not said we would be there soon. She's hardly spoken about the journey ahead.” I stated. “How do you know what you talk about? Besides, you've never seen or heard about her tribe.”

I said, and I saw the defeat in his e

Alpha Kai's POV The domestic staff and slaves all walked around the large hall, with beautiful gold plaited dishes that no doubt exuded so much wealth and grandeur. "I tell you Kai, this tribe is rich. They own much more than we can ever imagine.” Katara stated. She'd been following my eyes as I watched. I'm used to seeing luxury and having things that I want but I never counted on seeing so much from this tribe of Dinosaurs. "I totally agree with you, My Luna but could you not speak too loudly? Lest you give the impression that we're mere peasants who have hardly seen nor enjoyed wealth," I replied. I was getting uncomfortable with Katara's Incessant and curious questions. "I have not spoken too loudly, Alpha Kai, and no one who is sane will look at us as mere peasants!“ Katara said petulantly. As I made to reply to her in a pacifying manner, Santina, who had kept everyone on the table from eating, walked gracefully to her seat at the head of the table accompanied by two mai

Alpha Kai's POVIt amazed me how Katara moved from being angry and melancholic to being tender and loving. As I made love to her that night, her passion and eagerness encouraged me on, I felt again, a bliss and I temporarily forgot my woe and the problems of the day."I love you so much, Katara,"I whispered into her ears as I heaved myself off her and watched her flushed face."I love you too, milord," I replied as her hand made its way to my face. She rubbed on my jaw and smiled up at me."I do hope that we have our lives back soon, My lord," she said.…For a short while, I was surprised that she still had in her mind, the life we'd left behind only shortly ago in order to save our own lives. But I knew better than to argue with her so I took her hand in mine."We will have our lives back, my Luna. We only have to endure a little bit and we're going to be okay soon. Very soon, I assure you, my dear," I said and she smiled again."I do not know what has become of Abramo. I miss him

Alpha Kai's POVI was fierce during the intensive training the following day.I over worked the men and would not stop even when the leader shouted that we stopped training for the day. I was venting my anger on the men and they knew."Pray tell, why are you so ferocious today?“The army leader asked me. He had his usual grumpy face."Well, only see it fit that we do what is right and stop lazing around,"I replied. I was careful to conceal my anger from him as I spoke."Well, we do not expect an impending war and so we must see that these men retire early and go pay attention to their families,"He said.He was staring at me in the face, which won’t usually happen to an Alpha. Looking intently and perhaps, trying to read my mind by looking into my eyes.Looking at someone else's eyes intently might give off the person's thoughts, he had told me once and even though I did not believe him, I did not also open my mouth to argue against him."I do not see anything wrong in what you have

Her brazen gaze holding mine for a few seconds but I was too angry to pay heed to her. And what if I was not?I certainly would not want anything with a maid from a tribe which I was only a foreigner. A sojourner.Katara was turning her cheap jewelries in her palms when I stepped in."Welcome, Kai. What kept you out so long? Will there be a war? Did the men train extra hard for it?“She asked without looking up from her jewels.I ignored her question and asked mine."I see you are engrossed with that. Tell me, did you get a few more to add to your collection?"I asked her. She smiled and looked up for the first time since I stepped in. She set her jewelries aside and stood up. One look at my fiery eyes and she knew that I was angry."What is wrong, my Kai? Perhaps, you have seen something that instigated your anger?“She asked me. I exhaled. I was goi

  • Mated to the Enemy Alpha   32 - To Share One’s Thoughts

When I woke up, Kai was gone. Where he had slept was bare and rumpled and as I splayed my hand over it, it felt warm. A testament that he had left not long ago. I assumed at once that he must have gone out to the field where he and the men trained daily. I did not ask the maid who had brought in breakfast for me… for the first time in a long time, if she had come across Kai as he left the chambers. Later, as I dressed up in a perfectly fitting dress and joined the women in the study making decorations and beautiful dish clothes and table mats, I recalled again the previous night and how passionately Kai had made love to me. Perhaps, the affairs of the tribe which we now found ourselves among did not diminish his wild longings for me. He loved me, despite everything we were facing. "What are you smiling at, Luna? You have made no stitch and you smile and let your lids slam shut while it is still day. Pray, share your joy with us that we too may be as excited as you are," A lady si

"For what reason, do you intend to do that my lady?“ The oldest lady asked. She was perhaps the only one who could ask such questions to Santina and receive an appropriate answer. "Maybe, so there can be more zeal for the work? I have an inkling that the lazy ones amongst you hide under the wings of the hardworking.” she said. “Some of you ladies might not be as diligent and efficient as the others, do not you think so?" She asked the lady. She was staring pointedly at me now. Perhaps, daring me to challenge her. But I was already braced to take all hostility in good grace until I got what I wanted. I would stay loyal and submissive and do her biddings until it was too late for her to realize what I had up my sleeves. “I do not think there is any amongst us who is not hardworking. If there be any lady who lazes about this study each day, I will be the one who brings it to your notice, my lady.” I let out. “Do not worry, the ladies are good together.” I spat at her. “They love

Many times, I had stayed in the bushes, watching her, the sun kissing her beautiful skin and her voice doing magic to me...” “…I never did show myself to her lest she be frightened and stop visiting the water side. But on the day the water had attempted to sweep her into oblivion, I had showed up and rescued her," "Commendable, if you ask me.” "The lass had been grateful and so was her father. She had been the only child of her father who was a widower," he said. He was suddenly looking exhausted and not too keen on continuing the story but I spoke up, assuring him that I found his story really interesting and would love to know how it had been from then on. For a while, I concluded that that might have been the sole reason for the invitation. To tell me what Santina had said and it did not please me one bit. "I see. Indeed," I replied as I drew my legs back, taking myself up from my seated position. A testimony that I was ready and eager to leave. First, I had to see Santina. She had sent the lass who had bore the message of her invitation and I would indeed be at her Chambers. To know at least why she wanted to see me after the previous night and the ruthless verbal sparring that these had been between us and then, I would go to Katara and tell her all I had learnt about the tribe of Dinosaurs from the very mouth of the commander of the army. "Well, I see you would love to retire, gentleman. Do not be mad that I had kept you away from the delicate arms of your Luna with stories which are only bland to the ears. I am not a very good story teller, you must forgive me,” He said as he rose to his feet. That caused me to chuckle. I ha

[Eight months later]Kai’s POV Katara had been with her ladies when she had been suddenly rushed out. I was right in the hallway, coming to the chambers to be with her when the ladies rushed her out. She was in labor and was going to give birth soon. I wanted to carry her off to wherever she was to be taken to but the ladies will not let me. "Let me carry her so it will be easier for you. Surely, you can not hold her like this and walk this slowly when she is in obvious pains." I tried to explain to the ladies but they will not hear of it. Katara was wailing as she took one laborious step after the other. I was not going to watch them continue in such slow progression so I brushed past them and whisked Katara off her feet. The ladies gasped in surprise but did not say anything when I began to walk away to the direction I suspected they were headed. It was to the midwife's place… Katara was still tearing at her clothes and thumping her fists on my chest when I arrived the midwife's

"It is perhaps by chance that I know this story myself. Now to the story, the men he had taken to form a pack had turned against him and had also taken with them the chest and had abused the magical items in it just as the son had done…They, captured many small packs and did many evil and perverted justice and looted packs and took the wives of others until the Moon Goddess had, had enough and the chest along with the items had disappeared on its own.”The men had thought that chest was stolen while they had slept, but when they could not find it, they had accused one another of the theft of the chest and they had fought and killed each other. For years, the chest appeared in many different places and so many packs had tried to open it to see its content all to no avail and then they had tried to keep it but it had kept on disappearing-“"Does that explain why we had seen it in a dilapidated house in the former Artic pack?”Kai asked. Abramo's eyes flung wide open in surprise. "Is th

The man explained. Kai had been listening attentively as well as all those who had been in the courts. I had been paying rapt attention too. At once, Abramo left the courts and went out to mobilize the men to secure the walls and the gates against any more miscreants. I could hear him shouting orders to the men as they ran to and fro. "The items are not yours to begin with. It is a bit difficult for me to understand how you have come to demand things that are not yours while trying to impress on us that you will take our fight and fight?' Kai said. He was angry as he spoke and the men did not speak for a long time. They were silent for a long while. "I will way you to leave Valmore now and we shall handle whatever trouble comes with the items we possess. It is ours to worry about not yours." Kai said. The men exchanged puzzled glances but did not make any attempt to leave. Kai stood there, brimming with anger as he watched them. "We are afraid you might be forced to submit the b

He said as he stooped and planted a kiss on my forehead. I nodded. I was not sure I wanted to remain indoors everytime if that was what pregnancy entailed. I was beginning to feel lazy. As Kai walked to the door, there was a sudden desperate knock on the door. He reached the door and opened it. The guard who was standing there was holding his sword by the hilt, he was breathing with so much gust and Kai walked with him down the hall, slamming the door behind him shut. I was worried as I leapt off the bed and went to the window to see what was really going on down there. There was an entourage and there were a few men on horseback. They were all waiting down the Castle floors, waiting to see the Alpha no doubt… I stood by the window for long, to see what was going to happen then. They did not look like they had come for peace. They looked like that were ready for war. Trouble. They did nothing to hide their intention. As far as I knew, Valmore was not in any trouble with any pack.

When I woke up, Kai was by the side of the bed. He had picked a chair and was sitting by the bed, watching me. I had no idea how long he had been standing there and as I opened my eyes to take in the environment, the bright afternoon light flooding the room, I was disoriented. "Relax, beauty. Hope you had a peaceful rest?" He asked as my eyes rested on him. I tried to nod but felt a sudden discomfort around my neck and so I ditched the idea. "How long have you been sitting there?" I asked instead. He smiled. "For a long time, beauty. A really long time." He said. He did not have the book in his hand again and he did not seem to be unkempt. He had even shaved! When had he done that? "You had the stubble last night and I've not seen you all morning Until now. When did you get a good bath?" I asked him instead. "I shaved last night. And, I was in here the moment you fell asleep to bathe and come watch over you while you slumber peacefully," He said. He was still smiling. I sighe

One thing I knew was that the Artic pack where not known for any form of magic even though it had grown in its time to become a terror to many other packs, it still did not possess magic and that was what I was sure of. Katara stirred on the bed while I was lost in thoughts and I turned to look at her. She opened her eyes drowsily. "Why are you not in bed yet, my love? You should come to bed now and have some rest," She said. She seemed to be having a hard time keeping her eyes open and I wanted her to go back to sleep "You can go back to sleep… I will join you soon," I said. She nodded and then stopped, her eyes flew open, wider. "Why are you still engrossed with that? You should leave that and have some rest." She insisted. I shook my head. She was being adamant. "Go to sleep my love. I will join you soon. I am only worried about a few things that I have found out in this book, " "Sitting up all night long will not solve the puzzle. I continued with the book, the message became even more complex as I continued but I was able to grasp the messages and it included even the magical ability to grow a garden and chose the magical creatures to stay in it and tend it. There was so much knowledge in the book that I began to worry that the information was too much. "I am satisfied with the knowledge of the wand, i find it difficult to understand everything else you see in the book.”Katara said as she sashayed to the bathroom. "I will go have a bath now. Do not be too engrossed in that, hence you forget to do other things… one of which is getting up to come and take a bath.”She said as she disappeared from sight. I straightened up and took the book with me to the nearest table. I was still sitting there, totally focused on the book when she appeared again from the bathroom. She was drippi

It was a bit baffling that she was interested In magic suddenly and as we mounted the horse, I decided to ask her. She was still clutching the book and I had slipped the wand into the small bag I was carrying lest it comes alive and enchant the things around me that did not need to be enchanted."Why are you suddenly so concerned and Interested in magic?"I asked her. I hoped she heard since the horse was in motion and was whipping past trees and the wind will not let my words reach her as well as it should have. She heard me anyway. She had twisted her neck awkwardly to look back at me and speak as loud as she could. I kicked the horse and it slowed down. We are not being pursued. It was enough reason to drive calmly back to Valmore. The wind rushing past our ears were now calm and i could make out the words she spoke."I feel a certain sense of rightness with these... She had sheathed her sword and one of her hands was now resting on the hilt of the sword. She was eager to leave. I turned away from Chloe and held the wand against the door. The door did not come open. Chloe chuckled behind us and the old lady stirred again. She was doing a good job of detaining us. She was almost accomplishing her goal which was to keep us until the old lady regained consciousness."Why is the wand not opening the door? Are you holding it wrongly?"Katara asked in a whisper. Of course Chloe and her mother did not know that the wand had only worked because I had struck it the right way without meaning to. Katara knew
