Reese
Without warning, I was startled out of my deep slumber, but it didn’t take me long to figure out it was Jace gently shaking me back into consciousness.
He backed off when I showed the first signs of life, and I cautiously eased myself away from Scarlett’s gorgeous, red-colored wolf in the ensuing silence reigning throughout the small cabin.
I shot a glance around the room, noticing more than one pair of curious eyes peering at me before I pushed my wolf’s presence down with a great deal of effort and transformed shapes.
The ache hung around as I shrugged some clothes on and followed Jace outside so we could talk with a little privacy without disturbing the others.
I was pleased to see Scarlett remained asleep as I stepped out into the nippy air, but my buoyant mood didn’t last as I remembered the state I’d found her in when Jace and I had intervened during her brawl with the bears earlier this afternoon.

Reese I couldn’t speak in my wolf shape, but I thankfully didn’t need to. Jace was already on his feet when I blazed inside hot on Kyle’s heels after he’d dashed in without uttering another peep in explanation. Jace asked the questions I couldn’t voice while I ran my eyes over the fresh injuries visible on the bear shifter’s naked skin, concurrently seeking out Scarlett with my searching gaze in the room beyond him as my ears took in their discussion. “What’s going on?” He asked in a measured tone, but his calm demeanor had no effect on the younger male who was wound tighter than an eight-day clock after what he had observed. “We have to go. Get everyone up.” Kyle didn’t wait for Jace’s response, rather he started to rouse the wolves himself as he loudly stomped around the room in between the numerous bodies sprawled about, breathing heavy as he struggled to catch his breath. “Stop.” Jace yanked the bear shifter back b
Reese It was a feat in and of itself to keep my brain from dwelling on Aaron’s untimely death. He was one of Jace’s males, and I knew he was beating himself up over what happened. Hell, I was doing the same thing, but no matter how many times I ran all the data through my head, there was nothing we could have done differently. We took down the bear with ease between the both of us, but it was too late for the brown wolf I’d tried to save by then. This was the exact reason Jace and I had not wanted to risk an invasion attempt before, but things changed after my mate led us to the group of she-wolves when we found her. There wasn’t any way we could leave them, so Jace had pulled some of his males to bolster Jax’s numbers to help get everyone safely home. Alas, Aaron’s sacrifice aided us in achieving our goal, but I was aware our escape was only one small battle in the war Scarlett’s ex had chosen to wage with our species alongsi
Scarlett I indulged myself with my mate’s drugging kiss for an indetermined amount of time. I never wanted our embrace to end, but my exhaustion was near impossible to ignore as I battled to stay on my feet. The temporary surge of energy I’d felt from my righteous anger had kept me going up until now, but I knew my time was limited before sleep welcomed me like an old friend again. Reese was supporting the bulk of my weight by this point. Still, I knew he had to be bushed himself. My legs gave out in the midst of our tangling tongues and roving hands, but I persisted to languidly enjoy his delectable aroma straight from the source. I didn’t know if my jelly legs were as a result of my tired state, or from the pure pleasure streaming through my system, but either way, his wiry arms were there to catch me when I began my collision course with the ground. “Sweetheart, are you okay?” I took a few deep breaths to steady mys
Scarlett Reese’s soft snore gave me my answer on whether he was awake or not. I briefly wondered what time it was, but I decided I didn’t care when I felt my mate’s morning wood pressing into my ass from where he had me ensconced by his side. He made me feel cherished, and I was damn proud I had marked him with my claiming bite last night. My wolf howled her joy within my head, causing me to wince with the thunderous noise, but I was able to coax her to the background after promising to shift for a run soon to let off some steam. The current course of my mind might have had something to do with her easy reception also, but only Luna knew for sure. I carefully extricated myself from Reese’s burly arms and breathed a sigh of relief when I didn’t wake him as I sat up to take in all of his form. The blankets were riding low on his waist, showcasing the irresistible v that I was dying to run my tongue over. I volleyed my ey
Scarlett I saw the way Kyle had flinched with my question, and his hesitation was undeniable as I looked towards Zoey to give him time to formulate his reply. I concentrated on the she-wolf while she answered in a firm tone, “I’m not totally sure about the other girls, but most of us came from the Western Province. The bears had some sort of smoke bomb that knocked us out, and they apparently hightailed it out of there with us in tow before anyone could raise the alarm. We were all together when we awoke, and you already know what happened after that.” I eyed Kyle’s reaction to what his mate had revealed. He’d seemed puzzled when she mentioned the smoke bomb, but I didn’t pause to unpack everything as my mind whirled. I was impressed with how Zoey was handling things, but then again, I hadn’t exactly pegged her for a shrinking wallflower, after all. Her explanation was brief, but to the point. I cast my searching gaze around t
Reese I didn’t know shit about healing, so I backed off and let someone more qualified take a look at the insentient male after I’d deposited him on the lush leather of the cramped sofa. I registered the Alpha of the Northern Province urging the she-wolves in the room to congregate elsewhere while I monitored Jace’s tossing form on the furniture I’d placed him on. Although, I heard Jax ask the girls to stick close for now while Scarlett hovered helplessly over her friend nearby. Once upon a time, I might have been jealous about her attention towards another male, especially Jace, but I was feeling more secure in our bond now after everything we had been through together. Jace having a mate of his own might have played a role in my confidence, or maybe it was caused by the respect I had gained for the male through his selfless actions over the last several days. Either way, I didn’t ponder the thought for long as I alighted on
Scarlett I felt like I had been on an emotional rollercoaster with all the unanticipated events taking place around me, but Reese’s embrace and soothing smell of cinnamon and pine kept me grounded until I made it to the other side of the cavernous trench threatening to engulf me within its depths. I wasn’t surprised with the info my true mate relayed or that Jace had already been aware of the females who had been snatched from under his care. It explained a lot about his behavior before, and I knew Jace was skilled in gaining intel when he needed to be. “I’m sure you would be all too happy to escort them there as well, right?” My eyes were drawn to the smirk present on Reese’s bearded face by his deep voice ringing out, and he gave me the last piece to the puzzle as he continued, addressing Jace as he said, “Your mate is probably worried sick right now.” All the same, his words left me fleetingly stunned before they nudged my brain in
Reese I had an abundance of free time to think on the long car ride home as the others dozed around me. I felt just as exhausted as they plainly were after burning the candle at both ends for so long. The darkened sky and my full belly had my eyes drifting shut without my permission as one of Jax’s males drove the large van we were riding in towards my home. I desperately wanted to succumb to the blackness, but I was having trouble shaking off my niggling concerns about the threat the rogues posed. The last thing we needed was to have to fend off an attack in our precarious position, but I recalled Oliver had informed me the elders’ allies had been quiet for the past couple of days. Jax and Jace had supported his declaration with their own observations and reports from their males, so I knew we should be safe by all accounts. I resolved on upping my caution when we stopped to refuel, but I mercifully slipped my heavy lids shut
Hello wonderful readers, This is the end of 'Mated to the Alpha of the West." Please don't forget to let me know your thoughts, where you think I could use improvement and where you would like to see more information in the last book. I will be going back to do a final reedit of this novel, but I will begin writing East this month. The final installment of 'The Luminary Quartet' will focus more on the dragon shifters if you guys haven't guessed by this point. Finally, I have an artist working on designs for the final covers for all the books in this quartet. The cover for East will be temporary until they are all complete, and in the next few weeks I will be changing all the other covers to the final product. I am super excited for you guys to see what we've come up with, and I've also created a map to give you guys a better idea of the topography for my stories. I will upload the map to my author's page on F* when I have the last pi
Scarlett About Two Weeks Later… It took a while for everyone to figure out where they wanted to settle once it had finally began to set in that the war was truly over. Of course, I remained in the Western Province with my true mate, but there had been a lot of reshuffling so far, and I was expecting even more in the coming weeks. Travel had been restricted before, but everything was entirely different since Hunter’s and Clarissa’s deaths, and since the disturbing truth about my former friend’s actions had been unveiled. I still couldn’t believe I had never known how warped they were on the inside, but any sadness I may have felt from their passing vanished when I thought about the number of deaths that they were collectively responsible for over the years. Needless to say, I hadn’t seen a shred of the children I’d befriended so long ago since either one of the bears had reentered my life, not that I ha
Reese It took every ounce of my self-control to remained fixed in place when the earsplitting roar rent the air, but Scarlett hadn’t informed me she was in trouble, so I clawed at the rocky earth beneath my paws until the time was right. I had a clear vision of the field from where I was positioned, my wolf’s superior vision helping in this respect, and I’d ordered my warriors forward the second my mate faltered with the outpouring of bear shifters into the open area, elated the bears had walked right into our trap. I saw Clarissa prowl in the direction of my true mate as our males defended our land. Concern for Scarlett arose to the forefront of my mind, but my eyes alit upon the massive, scarred beast setting his sights on my other half in the next instant. I was aware Rias and his males would arrive at any minute, and I wasn’t losing my one opportunity to repay some of the damage Hunter had inflicted over the years before t
Scarlett I was lost to the world after I’d crashed for the night, not even noticing when Reese slithered into the bed beside me, but I did register his abrupt movement as he shot out of bed sometime later. The incessant ringing emanating from the blackness around where I believed the night table was on the other side of the bed indicated what had awoken me from my slumber. Moreover, my mate hurriedly silenced the noise, answering the phone before it completed another loop of the tune he’d set. The resulting harried conversation I overheard told me everything I needed to know, and I began steeling myself for the conflict barreling straight for us, knowing I would never have to deal with my ex again after tonight if I could pull myself together long enough to fulfill my role in everything. My mate confirmed what I already knew a moment later as he hung up the phone, announcing in a matter-of-fact tone, “Hunter is leading his males throu
Scarlett The next day and a half seemed to drag by, but it wasn’t for a lack of things to do, that was for damn sure. Reese had been so busy making certain our ducks were all in a row before the bears invaded that we’d hardly had any time for each other. It didn’t help the rogues had begun their guerilla warfare in earnest once more, but I had a feeling my true mate was on to something prior when he’d said their sporadic attacks were a distraction method. My mate and I announced the threat heading our way to our pack members and guests, instructing them of their part in the whole scheme of things, though it mostly boiled down to the visitors staying within the town limits while our warriors helped secure the province. A few of the male members of the Ursidae species who had been keeping watch over the female werebears and their children during the turmoil in the bears’ land expressed their desire to help fend off Hunter’s incursion.
Reese Another damn group of rogues were trying to breach our borders again this evening. They didn’t make it far before I’d caught the faint smell of lady palm, but their attempt didn’t piss me off any less, irrespective. I thanked Luna and Kyle both that I had received the serum when Scarlett and I returned from our mission a couple of days ago as I took off after the trespassers who didn’t know we had the capability of detecting them. My wolf’s claws slashed through the dirt as I raced onward, forgetting about the nippy bite to the air as adrenaline rushed in, and I centered all my concentration on finding the menace lurking in my province. I ran into a few of my pack members who were out monitoring the borders during my pursuit, and the rogues were promptly taken care of with the assistance my warriors provided, afterward. There was nothing out of the ordinary as I finished the last portion of my circuit on patrol, so my wo
Reese Ronnie gave me a subtle thumbs up as she entered the dining room with my mate trailing behind her. Resulting, I breathed a sigh of relief, getting up to embrace Scarlett before she could take her seat next to me. I wasn’t proud to admit it, but I had snuck into the kitchen while she was showering this morning to ask the other she-wolf for a favor before I’d hunted down Ryker. Kyle had earned my trust, but that didn’t change the fact that my other half continued to be exhausted, and I had recently noticed other small things off about her too. I wasn’t sure if it was caused by side effects from the serum or something else entirely, but I was pleased Ronnie had agreed to discreetly check it out, nonetheless. Ronnie’s sign of encouragement allowed me to relax my stiff posture, but a hint of my unease remained after consulting Scarlett and I’s mating bond. The two she-wolves were the last to arrive, and the food was a
Scarlett I stirred in my sleep, something pulling at my consciousness, but the heavy weight of my mate’s arm snug around me and his pine and cinnamon fragrance combatted with whatever it was. Relaxing back into my bliss, I forgot about the momentary intrusion altogether. That was, until the same annoying sound repeated, but this time, it was much closer. The knocking recurred yet again from outside my bedroom door, making it impossible to ignore. Thump, thump, thump! I groaned, already lamenting my morning lost in bed with my true mate, so my mood was surly when I threw the door open a minute later. In any event, my irritated words died on my lips when I saw Ronnie on the other side of the door, and I greeted her with a hug while I heard Reese moving around in the room behind me. “Hey Scar, I figured I’d return the favor.” She smirked, giving me a cheeky grin before she continued, “I was knocking on the front
Scarlett Reese was striding up to my side as soon as we arrived at the training grounds, blanketing me in his embrace once he was within touching distance, so he heard the tail end of my uncle’s statement. “We’ll work it out kid. You’ve got enough on your plate to worry about for now, and we’re grown adults. You’ve done enough already.” Rowan said kindly, patting me on the back before he set off to join the other males who were already warming up. I remained silent, pondering everything I’d learned today. My uncle’s words were slowly sinking into my psyche, but my mate’s deep voice intruded before long. “Are you all right, sweetheart?” He inquired, disregarding the various people who were waiting on us as he squeezed me tighter into his strong chest like we had all the time in the world. I glanced up to meet his stunning silver orbs, answering, “Yeah, it’s just Logan and Rowan working through their issues.
