Lilith and Mark immediately grabbed Aiden's fur before his wolf could fall into the cliff along with Penelope. Because he can no longer retrieve Penelope's body, he continuously growls his disappointment and dismay afterward.
"Are you two fucking kidding me?" Lilith furiously asked. "The two of you are willing to risk your wolf's lives for that one woman?" "We simply want to save her, Lilith!" I was not supposed to yell at her but I could not help it anymore. "Among the wolves who know me better must have been you and Mark. And you two simply stare at me giving my all to help her." I don't want to argue with them anymore so I drag Aiden out of the place before he could run away and do something worse than bump into me. As soon as the phase of the full moon began to culminate, Aiden's body also started to get back to normal. "It's my fault she falls into the cliff," he uttered, so I let go of my grip from the back of his neck. "What if she dies, Ethan? How am I supposed to live with the guilt?" Then he dropped his butt on the ground and started crying like an eight-year-old kid. "I was supposed to confess to her my feelings, tonight, Ethan. What am I going to do?" he added. "her friends already have it in the plan. That's why she comes with them." My brain has nothing in mind that can lessen his miseries and regrets. So, I simply tapped his shoulder until he stopped crying. One week later, Aiden and I started to move on with our lives. He and his Rugby friends are heading to the field to continue their practice. I, on the other hand, stood still in the mouth of the school's gate, greeting and smiling at the students coming in and out of the campus. "Cool!" exclaims one of the students who passed through me with his eyes glimmering like gold. Out of curiosity, I followed the direction of his face and found an expensive grey Phantom Rolls-Royce with someone inside, especially when the students started blocking the way in. But I shooed them away when another car is approaching. The moment the students started clearing the road, the balls of my eyes dilated when I could recognize the ones holding the steering wheel. Even if she was wearing sunglasses and shortening her hair, her aromatic and enticing scent and physical appearance prove my instinct that my wolf is not mistaken. But how? For that same reason, I slowly crawled my eyes heading to the field where Aiden is approaching our direction. Perhaps his wolf also sensed Penelope's presence. "Hi, Ethan!" says Penelope the second she hops out of the car and tosses me her car keys. Then she removes her sunglasses and smiled, allowing me to see and witness her one-of-a-kind beau. Instead of getting enticed, I grab her hand and drag her to the corner. I took a sniff and studies her physical appearance. "Let go of me, Ethan! You're hurting me already," she uttered, but I ignore her and check her arm where I remembered my sharp and elongated claws are sunk. "What happened? How did you survive the fall, huh? Answer me!!?" she shuts down her eyes when I growl at her because of my extreme anger toward her. One week. Who could not be? Within those days, Aiden and I have been having nightmares, not talking to each other like mute, and always having no appetite for our every meal. Yet, she showed up and act cool in front of me as if nothing happened back in the camping. "Ethan, what are you doing?" Aiden asked me. Similar to my wolf, Aiden was also stunned and dumbfounded upon confirming I was talking to her first love, alive. "People are watching us. Let her go." "Aren't you also intrigued about how she managed to survive back there, huh, Aiden?" I said back while pointing my glimmering eyes to Penelope, allowing her to see those blue eyes. The same eyes she witnessed back on the cliff. "What are you doing, Ethan?" this time, it is no longer Aiden who asks me that but one of the school's human professors. "Let go of her before I'm gonna call the cops." Because I have high respect for the professors of our school, I let go of my hands from Penelope and pointed my gaze to the floor. "The three of you, in the Guidance Office. Now!" Who could have thought because of the incident Aiden and I were put into an undesirable situation? The school board decided to suspend me while Aiden getting expelled. My wolf doesn't want to ruin Aiden's future so, I assume all the punishment but in return, they have to exclude my brother from the issue. I even suggested to them to take a look at the CCTV footage to support my claims that Aiden was there to stop me. Aiden did not agree with my prepositions but I begged him to stay quiet. Later in the afternoon, after packing my things, I visited the office of the school owner, who also happens to be the alpha of our pack. I plan to beg him to reconsider my suspension and give me my job back when in this world filled with humans, money is a must. Undeniably, Aiden and I are depending on my paychecks as a security guard. I have monthly bills to pay. And two mouths to feed. Even if I have to kneel and cry in front of him, I'm not gonna hesitate to swallow my pride. When I got into the alpha's office, his secretary pointed me to his house as the owner has an outside appointment. So, I flashed to his house. "If you're here to talk about what happened a week ago, don't waste your time, Ethan." Alpha Ezekiel said. "Lilith and Mark already told me what happened. In fact, I invited them here to summon you, but who could have thought you'd be here as well." "What?" I pointed my curious and confuse gaze at them, one by one. "We heard that you and Aiden kept the crime you did that night, Ethan. So, we told Alpha Ezekiel ourselves," confesses Mark. "I'm so sorry, Ethan," Lilith uttered. "I tried to stop Mark from telling Alpha Ezekiel but he doesn't want me to lie either." "Enough!" Alpha Ezekiel yelled at us before he moved out of his seat on the couch and stood in front of me. "As the older brother, you should have known better how to tame your younger brother, Ethan. What if you two not only killed one student, huh? What if you two killed more than that? How are we going to explain that to the school?" I don't know what was certainly going on but it seems that all of them are not aware of Penelope getting back to school. Alpha Ezekiel seems to be not even aware of my wolf getting suspended from work. "So, before everything gets worse, I, Ezekiel Lambert, alpha of the Moon Walker Pack, disband you, Ethan, and Aiden Park from the pack, effective immediately! You and your brother are no longer allowed to be seen..." While Alpha Ezekiel kept on talking about his werewolf's written rules, a lot of dreadful thoughts started sinking into my helpless mind. Thoughts about becoming a lone wolf did not scoop off in my human and werewolf system. As lone wolves, we become useless and powerless. Our voices no longer matter. We become enemies with every pack around us. And I can't afford that to happen to Aiden. He is too young to become a lone wolf. The worst part is that I did not get the chance to explain to him my side of the story. The side of the truth. I don't know what Lilith and Mark confessed to Alpha Ezekiel but it seems that he was pretty convinced by them. "Are you two happy now?" I furiously asked Lilith and Mark. Before one of them could say a word, Lilith and Mark exchanged peeks. The kind of glimpse that tells me something was off. Something they are not telling Alpha Ezekiel before he took off. "I'm so sorry, Ethan," Lilith said. "We don't want to become a lone wolf too. So, Mark and I told Alpha Ezekiel the truth." My mouth could not help but scoff. "The truth? Really, Lilith? Do you think telling Alpha Ezekiel could not ruin things? What about us, huh?" To my surprise, Mark wraps his arms and stealth a kiss on Lilith's lips. She did not push him or slap him on the face as though she likes the fact her lips were being rubbed on Mark's. "There are no you and Lilith anymore, Ethan," Mark said. "Because Lilith is mine now..." Mark did not finish his statement when I blow him with a punch straight to his face. Hard enough he stumbled a few times to the floor. I could even see blood pouring from his lips. And I have no regrets about doing it to him. In fact, punching him in the face is not enough. My fated mate and best friend are having an affair behind my back. Two wolves that I trusted the most betrayed me. Perhaps they already plan this in the very beginning. They want me to be gone from the picture. Gone from the pack. "For the record, Mark... Lilith. The reason I visited Alpha Ezekiel is to inform him that Penelope is alive. Good thing I did not get the chance to tell him before you two betrayed me. And I will never forget this day." "What?" Mark enlarged the balls of his eyes, speechless at my unexpected confession. Lilith suddenly drops her knees, begging me not to tell Alpha Ezekiel about it. She even cried in front of me, which I hated the most seeing her. But enough is enough. So, before I flash out of Alpha Ezekiel's house, I ended my relationship with both of them even if it was extremely unbearable to carry. But I am not that bitter enough not to wish them both nothing but happiness. On my way back to the apartment, the continuous tears that were poured from my eyes left marks and traces on the ground. I may look tough back there but deep inside me was a ripping heart apart. And I can't stop my tears from flooding my face. No matter how hard I try to understand where I did wrong, my wolf's brain could not think of one. I believe that Lilith and I were in the middle of being intimate. We even blab about settling down because aside from that both of us are already at the right age, we have permanent jobs to support our dreams. But why did Lilith and Mark betray me? Kissing her in front of me was completely ridiculous. Of all the male wolves she can have an affair with, why my best friend? After a few hours of walking on foot, I helplessly drop my body to the mattress, staring at the ceiling while carrying the emptiness of my heart and brain. The worst part is that my empty heart and brain were disconcerted about which of the three unbearable problems must I a
My eyes try to avoid the shadows of Mark's and Lilith's peek while Alpha Ezekiel spells out those words. Even if I was not looking back at them, however, their piercing glance foreshadowed and managed to break the invisible wall that divides us in the tiny space of my apartment. It's not their face that my eyes are imagining but their unforgivable and injustice betrayal. And it was boiling my blood pressure to the point that I could not help myself from gritting my teeth and clenching my fist. Whatever Mark and Lilith confessed to Alpha Ezekiel, it probably does not involve them having an affair behind my back. Or worse he might already know about it but he refrains to bring that up since it is none of his business. "And if I decline your proposal?" I throw the question back to him. Killing Penelope Garcia is not a hard thing to do for a werewolf like me. It's the conscience that is hard to accept. Aiden and I are already foreseeing nightmares within those n
Thirty minutes later, my wolf dropped its body on the floor as soon as I reach the door of my apartment, not because I got exhausted but because my blood was almost drained after getting hit by an arrow. "Ethan, what happened?" Aiden grabs my hands and drags me inside. He was startled upon seeing the blood coming out of my left chest where the arrow was sunk into. He began pouring his tears and whimpering while looking at me laying on the bed. Then I lifted half of my body when my brain started to feel the room spinning. "Get me an alcohol and a cloth," I ordered him in a faint tone, ignoring his childish expression. "What?" he asks for clarity. Perhaps he did not get the chance to hear my voice when I can't even hear it myself. So, I yelled at him to get me two things. We don't keep any antiseptic disinfectant in the apartment so he provided me with a bottle of vodka instead. After taking a sip of the vodka, I sink my teeth into the cloth and put pressure on
Romulo stops talking when the phone in my pocket tickled my balls. I pull out the phone without moving my eyes away from him. "Did you manage to break into school?" I shortly remove the phone from my ear and studied the screen for two seconds. It was Aiden voice but he was using someone's digits. "No, I'm so sorry, Aiden." I uttered back while trading into "They already fixed the fence." "And it was electrocuted, Brother Ethan." Aiden pointed out the reason. "What are we going to do? I heard Karen with her friends discussing about this party in her parent's mansion on the weekend." "We better talk about this back to the apartment, Aiden." I have to end the conversation before he could say something about Karen, not in front of someone who knows a lot about us. "You did great today, Aiden." "I can truly understand if you cannot give me the answer to my proposal right now, Ethan." he added. "after all, you still don't know anything about me. But you can dig some
"Penelope, wait!" I yell at her when she runs fast as though a furious dog or cops are chasing her. As soon as she reaches the main road, she waves her hands to those cabs passing her until someone's car from a distance is flashing at the speed of light heading in her direction without her knowing. Perhaps the driver of the car did not notice Penelope being in the middle of the road. Let alone her height is hidden by the cars next to her. Considering I saw the car with no signs of stopping, I flash to her and drag her back to the corner of the road before the car hits her. We stumbled a few times which resulted in bars of chocolates and other feminine stuff she grabs from the store scattered on the ground. "If the two of you plan to die, better do it without bothering anyone!" yells the driver who almost hits Penelope. "Jump off the bridge. That's a good idea." he even suggested that. "Go to hell, you son of a bitch!" I scoffed at him in disbelief when he did
In a few seconds after that, my eyes are no longer seeing two hungry and furious wolves but twenty of them of the same size. Their deadly eyes were giving my wolf cold feet, especially when some of them jump on top of me to block my way out. "State your name and purpose," he added. "Well. I am here to see Alpha Romulo. He had my brother's bike." telling the truth is the least I could say for them not to feel suspicious of me even if their glares already did. But I cannot deny my voice is cracking. "And why would Alpha Romulo has your bike when he had collections of them in the parking lot right now?" he started interrogating my wolf. I regretted coming into his mansion instead of surprising me with his appearance like he always does back in the woods and at the back of our school. No matter how hard I try to explain to them the truth, they will always throw questions at me to make it more uncomfortable. And they all love to see my wolf getting paranoid.
When I got into the living area, the entire room was already empty. My eyes could see nothing but empty and broken bottles of beer scattered throughout the floor. I have seen a few humans coming out of the house, but their numbers are not enough for me to say that it was all of it. There were around forty humans including Aiden, Penelope, and Conrad present at the party. But where are the rest? My wolf was having a hard time sensing everyone's presence when all I could smell were the alcohol flooding the floor. "Aiden!" someone screams my brother's name. And I am pretty convinced that the voice comes from Penelope. So, I flash from the living area and landed in front of the swimming pool. There I found Aiden and Penelope in the corner while surrounded by four furious and hungry werewolves. Without hesitation, my wolf jumps on top of one of the wolves, bites his neck, and throws him to the swimming pool. As soon as his dense fur got soaked by the water, his wolf
Right after putting on some clothes, the three of us surrounded the single table in the dining area with Penelope seated while Aiden and I are patiently standing across from her. Her unexpected confession about those who attacked them intrigued me the most, especially when the alpha that I fought earlier bestowed me with this unknown prophecy between me, Penelope, and Aiden. He claims that whatever I decide in the near future about Aiden and Penelope will lead to our lives being on a roller coaster. I killed two of his betas yet he bestowed me with a piece of advice and this prophecy in the middle of our battle. After delivering that news to me, he stopped chasing me and simply look at me running away at the speed of light. That was how I got the chance to reach the apartment unscratched, still breathing, and heart beating. He could have killed me back there because he was extremely furious at me for killing his betas but my wolf sensed he was having second thoug
"This changes everything, Ethan," he murmured softly. "We might stand a chance against the witches if we unite our forces." Despite that my wolf still hadn't gotten the picture of his plan, I nodded in agreement, feeling a newfound sense of hope coursing through my veins. "Then we must get this done, Hunter," Aiden replied on my behalf. "The entire city has been hunted by the witches. It was them who are behind this madness." "Count me in," Conrad seconded, "Even if I don't have anything about magic spells or my wolf being the weakest in this group, I will help you with all I could have." "By the way, who are you people?" I could not help but ask those two werewolves Hunter Grey brought with him. They barely open their mouths as soon as they appeared in the bunker. And if I am not mistaken, they are not Hunter's friends or part of his pack. However, my instinct tells me that they were twins or siblings when they did not just have the same physical appearance b
"Okay, I think we plan B?" Conrad asked, his voice strained with worries, especially when Penelope's wolf started getting wild. "Ethan? Aiden? Plan B?" Penelope was now in her full werewolf transformation. And just like the first time that I met her in my dream, even my werewolf eyes could barely recognize her anymore. She was as though everything changed in just a blink of an eye from the once loving and caring Penelope, who turned into a wild murderer werewolf. And it was proven when she just jumped on top of me and began attacking me with her sharp and elongated claws and fangs. Aiden and Conrad were both stunned and dumbfounded by how strong Penelope's wolf really is. They were simply standing on their spots with their eyes wide open while Penelope was trying to bite and rip me apart. But I did not let her do what she really wants to happen. So, I put enough strength into my fist and punched her straight in the face. Aiden and Conrad's jaws dropped to the g
"Who said I am leaving her here?" I asked. "I brought her here so we could save Penelope from the witches. But first, we have to make sure she cannot escape or do something to us." Conrad, without asking further questions, wandered the entire house to look for anything we could use to hold Penelope. Aiden kept on talking to her, begging her to wake up. My wolf, on the other hand, kept my sharp eyes monitoring outside the house. I had to make sure no werewolves managed to follow me, especially since the house we are in has no fences around. Anyone can barge in at any time. Needless to say, our scents are everywhere. Newly bitten or shifted werewolves have more heightened senses compared to us. "Are you sure, Brother Ethan?" Aiden's face started to brighten. "Please, we need to help her. She must remember us as soon as possible." I nodded to Aiden without looking at him. Based on my quick observation, Penelope's condition after getting hit by lightning and thunde
"Penelope?" Conrad and Aiden breathed out her name in disbelief. "Is that really you, Penelope? What are you doing? Why are you with them?" Aiden asked, his voice laced with concern. "Isn't it obvious?" Penelope extended her response with a smile on her face. "I am here to be with you and Ethan, Aiden. And I missed you both so much. Get out of there, Aiden. Come. You can hug me." Despite Penelope's sweet and convincing words, my heightened wolf could barely sense and feel any emotions from her eyes. She managed to spill those words but I didn't sense any sincerity from her voice. Sad to say, Aiden was blinded by it. He begged me to remove the protective barrier so he can hug Penelope. I cannot blame him to fell for her words. My little brother was still in love with Penelope even if he already knew that she no longer belongs to him. Penelope loves me. That is why she accepted my wolf to be her mate. "Please, Brother Ethan," Aiden continued. His tears began pour
"How I wish you won't regret losing us again, Alpha Romulo," I replied, my voice strained with utter regret and dismay. "If we were the monsters you think we are, isn't it ironic that we are still locked up in this hell of a place?" Alpha Romulo's expression remained impassive, save for a flicker of curiosity in his eyes. Perhaps he was intrigued by my sudden shift in tone, my sincerity flowing through each word. After a lingering pause, he nodded to his betas, signaling their departure. They evacuated the place, leaving us alone once again, a sense of resignation settled upon us. We were trapped with no way to escape the inevitable. The hours ticked by. And the weight of our impending doom hanging heavily in the air. "You could have done something, Ethan," Conrad highly suggested it. "The Ethan that I know would do something, everything, in his power to make things right. But you didn't. And I started to doubt if you are the real one." "We are the real ones, Conr
All the information Conrad and Alpha Romulo brought to us was news to me to the point that I no longer knows what to do. Using magic was no longer an option for me. If I am gonna use magic, then what? Aiden and I will be running for our lives again? Where? To the outside world where we could only see burned trees, abandoned buildings, shoved grounds, and empty streets? To start a new life? There is no life outside anymore. We see it with our own eyes. Everyone was already occupying this underground world in order to survive. The three werewolf packs, despite their differences, managed to survive for two consecutive years. It only means there is no hope outside. While holding onto those awful thoughts, I could not help but drop my butt to the ground with my arms wrapping around my knees and my eyes closed. The holding cell was dimly lit, with the only source of light coming from a small window, casting shadows across the cold, stone walls. Aiden and Conrad lay on
"The only person who can answer our questions is Alpha Romulo, Aiden. The two of us missed the chance for two years, remember? And I can't wait to see him," I replied, my voice filled with overwhelming excitement. "Me either, Brother Ethan," Aiden agreed before he shrugged at me. "But do you think he grows old that much in two years?" I don't know what kind of question was that but all I know is that within those years, a lot of things could have happened. That includes Penelope. My wolf missed her so badly. I want to hold her hands. Kiss her lips for like ten minutes straight. But then again, it has been two years passed already. A lot of things could have happened within those long years of waiting. Perhaps Penelope happened to have her new mate by now. After a few minutes walk, Dexter stopped walking. Then Alpha Romulo emerged from the shadows, his tall figure illuminated by the pale tube lights. His intense gaze assessed us from head to toe, suspicion clouding his piercing e
"Yes. He's pretty alive." Dexter replied, his voice calm. "If you have more questions to ask, please, address them to Alpha Romulo. I am not allowed to give you more information about anything. My wolf was simply tonight's in charge to keep an eye on the mansion." Indeed, I had a lot of questions to ask Alpha Romulo. Questions that he was the only one who knows the answer. On the bright side, knowing that he was alive gives us faith and hope. Who could have thought the protective spell I cast two years ago remains strong and become their source of protection? But two years? Sorry, but it was pretty hard to believe when we just stayed in the past for weeks. Meanwhile, Aiden and I walked side by side, our spirits high, as Dexter confirmed the incredible news. Alpha Romulo and some of our werewolf guardians were still alive. For the past two years, they believed we perished in the battle against the witches, but now there was hope shining through. Dexter had confir
"What about the pack?" Aiden highly suggested it. "Perhaps if we go there, we could find Alpha Romulo. After all, he is one of the most powerful wolves I have ever known. Or at least one from the pack, right?" Everything began with Romulo's pack. His mansion has been the haven for the witches. They come and go without being noticed. And as far as I could remember before these terrible incidents happen to our world, the witches were furious at me for breaking the deal. I involved everyone, including Romulo's pack, believing that my plan of saving humanity will work, but it didn't. Perhaps this was the result of what I did. So I highly doubt Aiden's claim to be true. The pack, I believed, was the first target of the witches. Even if Romulo is a powerful alpha, his claws and fangs, or even his wealth don't stand a chance to someone who can cast magic. However, we can't stay in an empty school either. We need answers as soon as possible. I need to find someone to ask
