Damien’s POVThe connection between Logan and Irina appeared to have taken it out of him, just like his first shift, he slept for hours afterwards. It gave me a chance to pack a bag and arrange a flight across to Arizona without to many interruptions. It was going to be the longest time that I had ever been away from Logan, but I wasn’t stupid enough to take him with me. Yes he may have been my only connection to Irina, but taking him beyond the pack grounds, it was just too risky and at least we could link each other.Austin was staying behind aswell, keeping an eye on the pack. This trip would be a solo trip, but I wouldn’t be coming home until Irina was safely with me. Austin had strict instructions when it came to Logan, as did his nanny’s and yet I still felt like my heart was breaking as I said goodbye to his sleeping body, watching for a moment as he sucked his thumb. The biggest problem though, Arizona wasn’t exactly small, and I could be there for weeks before I found anythin
Irina’s POVThe voice goes quiet, it was like I couldn’t even communicate on my own terms, I had to wait until they came to me, but it still knocks the air out of my lungs.Kendra helps me home, asking me a million questions, questions that I just didn’t have the answers too.“Come on Irina, for a wolf, you seem to be pretty weak” she didn’t mean it as an insult, she was concerned, I could see it in the way she looked at me.Back inside Kendras small house, she fetches some iced water from the fridge. “You’re still not telling me something. Why are you like this? I haven’t ever seen a wolf so, so, so frail.”“It’s probably the mate bond, it would have been different for you, you are human, but for me, I have been kept away from my mate for more than two years. My wolf isn’t even present.”“That’s just too weird. Can your wolf just get up and leave you one day?”I shrug my shoulders because I was starting to think that anything could be possible.“Or maybe she shut down after your chil
Damien’s POV“Where is he, I assume you wouldn’t have travelled alone! She glares at me, waiting for me to say or do something.“Like I would tell you.” Those strict instructions that I had given Austin and Logans Nannies, they involved not taking him out the house, I knew Logan would have hated it, but without me there, I just had to know he was going to be kept safe.“Let me see, you are either hiding him here somewhere, an omega keeping him close by or he is under lockdown in his own home.”“Don’t even think of trying anything Phoenix”She growls at me as I drop the Alpha title. “We will come for him Alpha Damien or the Blood Pack will. Either way he has to die, and I am certain that we will not be the only ones that want him dead.”“I am warning you Phoenix, if you try to lay a single hand on my son, it will be the last thing you will do!”She starts laughing at me “Like you will even have a choice Alpha, that son of yours shouldn’t even be alive.”I didn’t care if the humans saw
Irina’s POVI look between Kendra and the dead witch, in the moment, I had absolutely no idea what to do, it was times like these that I missed Raine, she would know exactly what we should do. Kendra continued to sob, and I knew it wouldn’t be long until the witch was found, until my identity was discovered and then we would all be screwed. I was wolfless, I couldn't go up against the humans.“Irina please say something! What do we do?” She lets the gun fall to the floor with a loud clatter as she moves towards the witch.“Don’t touch her” I mutter, trying to think of what Raine would tell me. "We can’t leave our prints behind, we have to make sure everything remains the same, like we were never here!"“Then what do we do?”“We do nothing, we go back to yours and pretend we have been there all day.”She nods her head at me, “Can’t you make it look like a wolf got her?”“Kendra, I can’t shift remember! Now grab your gun and come on.” I pull on her arm, carefully looking through the bea
Damien’s POVI didn’t want the human anywhere near my pack and I really hoped Irina would make the right decision. But as I tell Irina it is her choice; I see the struggle within her. Humans didn’t belong with wolves, there was a reason they were not supposed to know about us, and there was a reason we continued to remain separated from them. The people of this town though, they were very aware of our kind and that was bad enough. There were enough wars going on between packs without needing to create wars with humans too, and even though we were stronger, faster, they had something that we didn’t, they had silver bullets, an instant killer and we couldn’t protect ourselves from that.Lonecrown would rip her apart as soon as they scented her and even I couldn’t protect her from that. The humans’ eyes plead with Irina, and I could already sense what Irina was going to say.“I cannot guarantee her protection Irina”“But you are the Alpha”“Humans are different, they do not fall within m
Irina’s POV “What do you mean Kendra, are you talking about the wolves?” She nods her head at me, “They come in the dark, every night someone disappears. The talismans are supposed to help but now, now I have killed the only thing protecting everyone here.” “Why didn’t you tell me?” “Because I thought you would be gone by now and then all this shit happened.” She leans over her gun, letting out a heavy sigh. I felt guilty, it was me that had put her in this position. “Grab essentials and we will leave now. Anything you need later on, I can provide.” Damien is stood at the window, watching the people move around with their guns in their hands. “Quickly!” I try to help as much as I can, but Damien keeps telling me it is too much, he believed that Kendra wouldn’t be allowed to leave if they think she was leaving permanently. “Literally basics, few changes of clothes, passport, money.” Kendra nods her head, filling a basic backpack, stuffing a huge wad of cash into the bag, she s
Damien’s POVWhile the women sleep, I watch her, the human. I hated that she was here, but I was intrigued how a human had been mated to a wolf, especially one like Gunnar. We never learned much about him and now we never will. All those years ago, my father had told me that times were changing, and he was right, there was no denying it. Everything was so different now.I try relaxing but I can’t, everything just seemed so surreal, I was finally bringing Irina home, although with an annoying tag a long. At least she would finally be able to meet her son. I just hoped it would go as well as I wanted it too.I asked Austin to meet us at the airport for when we landed, I told him to bring Logan with him. Austin protested at first, reluctantly giving in when I change my tone with him. He just didn’t like the idea of letting Logan leave the pack lands and I understood why, but what better way for Irina to meet her son.Waking them just before we land, Irina’s eyes were wide with excitement
Damien's POV“Or what?” her eyes are dark as she continues to glare at me.Logan begins to stir, his head rubbing against Irina’s shoulder as he yawns and opens his eyes. A smile spreads across his face and I watch as that flash of light runs around his eyes while he gazes lovingly at her. He doesn’t say anything, instead he turns his head to me, and he watches me in the same way as Irina does. Was he making her this way?I try to keep my composure, “Did you have a nice sleep Logan?”His head bobs up and down, but he doesn’t speak, it was so unlike him, normally he didn’t stop talking unless he was napping. Holding my arms out to him, I was hoping he would want to come to me, but instead he leans more into her, that light in his eyes getting brighter.Irina turns on her heel, carrying him inside without even looking back. The nannies look at me in confusion, but I was just as confused. What was happening to my mate?“It’s been happening a lot since you have been looking for Irina.”Au
