Chapter Four
Ares Pov“How did she managed to escape into the night without any one of you knowing?” I spat glaring at the men in my office.“We didn’t he-“ Ayesha sent him a pointed glare that had him shut up.“It shows your incompetence and for this reason you’ll be working double time.” Ayesha said firmly pacing around the room with her hands tucked behind her back.“You’re all dismissed.” I waved them off tapping my feet as they closed the doors.“You should be resting Alpha Ares, you were injured.” Ayesha said calmly folding her hands across her chest. “You were injured last night.” She added.“What about the girl? How is she?” I asked stopping by the window side as I inspected the training outside.“I haven’t checked on her but Atlas said he would stop by to see how she was doing.” My brow ticked at the mention of my twin brother, Atlas.“And you let him?” I questioned turning to her.“You know Atlas, he doesn’t take no for an answer.” She replied. She was right, Atlas wasn’t the one who take no for an answer neither was I.“You should let him-“ she suggested looking at the ground, her hair following her movements. “He might be able to convince her to stay.”I sighed moving back to the chair behind the desk, my brother Atlas could get anyone to open up to him and it was envious.“fine, we let him talk to her.” I answered.‘Also we have news on that day, Laila’s parent seemed to want to tell her about her true identity when she got home that day, I found the note and a neckpiece which is a two in one, only that we cant find the second piece.” Ayesha answered.“You think she has the second piece?” I inquired leaning on my elbow.“Yes, she was wearing it back then, I think she still has it on.” She replied. “I can go check on her to see if she still had it.”“What else did you find? What else did they find in the note?”“That’s where the bad news comes in, its just one of the twelve pieces, it looked like the rest had been torn out of the book,” a frown formed on my face, there was an entire book?“How did you know it was twelve?”“the case of the books was found and from the rings it vould be deduced that they were twelve pieces available. Someone knew they were coming and made sure to get rid of it,”“Find out who and why.” I commanded and she nodded. I wondered why someone else would want those notes, they were meant for the those of the werewolf clan, it had the secrets on the power of the white wolf and how to harness them. Morgana couldn’t have stolen it, if she did she would’ve taken every part of the note. Someone was a step ahead of us and It bothered me a lot. Who could be looking for the white wolf and why?Laila POV“You don’t mean that, I swear that has to be a silly joke.” I chuckled as I held my stomach in laughter.“I kid you not, my hands got stuck for the rest of the day and it was horrible.” Atlas completed his story. “But I am glad that the younger me got to do stupid shit, now I have so much responsibility that I can barely have fun.” He leaned back in his chair and rubbed his chin.“Its still hard to believe that you and Ares are brothers, I mean apart from the fact that you two look so much alike.” I stated licking my buttom lips and played with my fingers.“Yeah, I hear that a lot, in as much as I love my brother I’m glad that I’m the one who compliments his really uptight nature. I mean, he’s not a bad guy just majorly misunderstood.” I rolled my eyes at Atlas statement.“A major asshole you mean.” I corrected and he chuckled. “Why was he in my apartment that night? How- why was he looking for me?”“He told you Lai,”“No- I want to hear it from you.” Atlas sighed and moved closer and so did i.“I’m not meant to tell you this, but we were instructed not to let you fall in the hands of Morgana, you know, the evil chick who wanted to take you.” My brows furrowed and my mind followed through his explanation. “We don’t totally understand why us but we were to come get you during your 18th birthday.”“Wait- what if- what if my parents had been alive? Would you guys still have taken me away?” I asked with a small frown.“Yes, your adoptive parents understood that during your 18th birthday you would start manifesting in your true nature which include transformation. Laila, they would have to hand you over to us.”This couldn’t be ture. They wouldn’t do that to me, they wont just give me off to strangers. They wouldn’t do that, no.“No- you’re lying.” I stood up from the bed and paced around the room with my teeth biting my fingers.“Laila, listen to me, I know your parents loved you so much but they were trying to avoid two things. They were afraid you would transform and cause havoc-“ i halted and turned to him, my eyes bored into his.“You mean they think I would go on a ramoage and kill them-““That’s not it, don’t interpret it like that.” He tried to calm me down but my throat was already getting clogged up. “If other people were to find a white werewolf they wouldn’t hesitate to call animal service and if you’re not so lucky, hunters.”Hunters?“Your parents only wanted what was best for you, they didn’t mean any harm.”“Yet look at where they ended up instead, dead.” I muttered swallowing the lump in my throat.“I used to think I had the perfect life and everything I could ever want,” I sat at the base of the bed and closed my eyes. “In the past seventy two hours, life has shown me that I really cant have everything.“Laila- hey, that’s not true.” Atlas was in front of me squatted to my height, I cleaned my eyes and stared at his deep green eyes which reminded me of the forest.“We can have everything we want if we truly desire it and see past the tubule that life brings, don’t forget that.” He squeezed my hands gently.“I’ll sure miss them.”“I know you will.”…………………………………………………………………………………..Its been a week since my life tragic incident, its been a week since I was locked up in this room and a week since I met Ares and Atlas, and lest not forget, the unlikable Ayesha.“Hey you.” Atlas said as he walked inside the room with a plate of food in his hands. I was curled up on the chair next to the window as I watched the outside world from this haven.I tucked my hands under my chin and turned to him, his hair was slightly damp and his chest heaved underneath the grey muscle tee he wore.“Hey-“ I replied making no move to get up from the chair.“I brought you something to eat.” He mentioned placing the plate on the desk, I spared it a quick glance at the food but turned my attention some place else.“I had something earlier, Ayesha brought me something to eat earlier.” I lied through my teeth, she brought me something but I didn’t make any effort to eat but Atlas didn’t need to know that. I didn’t need him to baby sit me.“Yeah, I know that-“he eyed me slowly, making an effort to reveal my true nature. “but I also know that you didn’t touch it, Laila you haven’t eaten anything since last evening.”“You can’t assume that I didn’t eat, you have no proof.”“I’m a were wolf Lai, I have a keen sense of smell. I know when a plate of food has been tucked under the bed.” My surprise was subtle and my lips thinned as I chewed on my buttom lips. He sighed and walked towards the large bed; did he think he would reach the plate? I pushed it far back he wouldn’t be able to reach it. And, and before you say that its not hygienic, a plate of spoiled food isn’t my deepest concern right now.“You don-“ the bed squeaked as he lifted it off the ground. My mouth dropped open as I watch him raise the bed so effortlessly. He turned to me with a small smile.“Now, that’s not where the food should go. It should be in your body and not under the bed. Come pick it up.” He said politely, defeated I pushed myself off the chair towards the plate lying in the middle of the open space. I picked it up and examined it sides, it still smelled good but there was no way I was going to eat it.Atlas dropped the bed down and turned to me, he raked his hands though his hair.“Please, if you do eat we can step out the gardens in the area, you’ll love what we have there.” He suggested, I eyed the food he brought again.“I don’t want to eat.” I said.“But you need to.” my eyes blurred with tears and my throat clogged, I was unstable and I wasn’t over what happened. If nothing terrible had happened I would’ve been back home, in my room sketching some outfit while dad watched tv and mum prepared for her bookclub meetings.“Hey-“ Atlas stood in front of me, his hands clasped around my upper arms and his eyes filled with concern held me. “I know you’re in a very bad place and I understand that nothing should matter to you but think about what they would want.” My sob broke out and a drop escaped my eye. Atlas pulled me into him and held me against his chest, it was weird being comforted like this but it worked magic. His large hands rubbed my back in slow motions while I soaked his shirt with my tears.“They would want you to be strong and healthy, they wouldn’t want you to beat yourself up like this. They’ll want you to live for them and for you, if you want to avenge them Laila, you’ll have to be at your strongest. You’ll have to do everything you can to survive and that includes eating when you’re supposed to.” he replied softly.I remained in his hold for a while, thinking on all the words he said to me. He was right, if I was going to avenge them I’ll need to be in good health to fight that woman, Morgana.“What in the world is ongoing here?” Ares loud voice broke us apart in a single second.Chapter fiveAtlas POVI didn’t expect the girl to be that pretty, yet here she was even in her grief shining in her beauty. Her soft hazel eyes looked vulnerable and her lips were chapped and in a thin line every time I stepped inside the room to give her food to eat. She looked like she’ll rather be anywhere and I made the off comment about seeing the gardens if she ate her food. When she started crying I did expect a nervous breakdown, but she was doing it right in front of me. she had lost her adoptive parents in the past week and she was in a strange place, it was normal that she shed a tear or two but when I pulled her into me my heart raced a thousand times more. Her scent put me at ease and I liked that she leaned on me, I wanted to brush her hair but as usual, my brother showed up.“What in the world is going on here?” Laila pulled away from me like I was a hot stove and my lips spread in a soft smirk directed at my brother.“Nothing that is your business.” She snapped at him
Chapter Six: Marking herLaila Pov“Get up.” Those were the first words I heard, it wasn’t Atlas comforting’s tone instead it was the harsh octave of the woman that hated me, Ayesha. My eyes peered opened and surveyed around, it was still dark from the window. “Don’t make me repeat myself shiro, get up. It is time. I frowned as I rubbed my eyes but made no effort to stand up from the bed. It was still dark why was she disturbing me this early? Had her perso- the rest of my words drowned away in the cold water that poured on my body. “The hell-“ I pranced out of bed, wet and very much cold.“Your initiation starts in the next ten minutes, we have to go.” Ayesha said instead of apologizing. Initiation? What was she talking about? She read the confusion on my face and sighed placing her hands on her hips.“Met me at the front, don’t let me come back here for you.” She said and walked out. I brushed the sticky hair away from my face, I changed out of the wet clothes, luckily Atlas had b
Chapter seven Ares Pov With her standing with her hoodie off, bare to us in the cold air it was difficult to not examine her body. Her shoulders bare and the whiff of her scent all around like a spread of fresh spring. It was difficult to pull my gaze away from her neck, it was an open invitation to dinner. The redness on her skin was spreading due to the cold. I had expected a more chaotic reaction from her after Atlas told her we would be marking her but she was somewhat calm. Her body under my touch was cold and soft, supple like fresh fruit in a good harvest. My fingers circled around her wrist, trapping her with no means to escape. She tensed against us and when she saw us lean into her, I could smell the fear in her. It was plain, and way too obvious. I know Atlas would want to stop but there was no need to extend this. As my face got closer to her skin, the soft heat radiated from her as her heart beat increased in pace. My teeth clawed out and sunk into her skin at th
Chapter Eight Laila PovIt was time for breakfast and I didn't want to leave the room, Ayesha made it clear that she was done serving me and that I had to act like everyone else. It also seemed like she despised me the more, her frown deepened and her words were more venomous when she talked to me.New clothes were brought for me to wear and I was thankful it was nothing outside my style. I grabbed a pair of plain straight pants and a black turtle neck to cover up the faint markings on my neck. My hair was up in a ponytail, I inspected the roots which were already turning back to it's original color, it's about time I dyed it again. While I stepped out of the from and closed the door behind me, the empty hallway greeted me.“Great, I have to walk there alone.” I muttered to myself as I crossed the hall and the down the stairs, a mop of black hair and Atlas back to me. I sighed in relief and rushed down the stairs to meet him.“For a moment, I thought I would have to go down the stai
Chapter NineLaila Pov“The first thing you need to learn is to pay attention.” Ayesha said loudly to all the trianees at the training field.I stood in the far back as I watched her belt out other things, I was in no way interested in what she had to say. I stared down at my training outfit, well fitted combats and a tank top paired with boots.“You must be the new girl.” the guy beside me said. I turned my head in his direction, he was way taller than I am and had his attention strictly fowards without any glance my way and I understood why.“I hope we're paying attention and not ogling at boys.” Ayesha said firmly directly at me, her eyes met with mine and it bored in my head. I resisted the urge to roll my eyes but she then set another question my way.“Laila, tell us the last thing I said.” she crossed her hands behind her back with a slight smirk on her face. Why was she attacking only me? Of course she knew that I wasn't paying attention and saw it as a perfect chance to humili
Chapter tenAres PovIt's been two weeks since she started leaving with us, and joined the pack. She had gotten acquainted with some of the basic things that we do and also she's been avoiding me.“Alpha Ares, you have a call from central.” Ayesha said, I was in the private training room when she stepped in with the cell phone in hand. I sighed brushing my sweaty hair away from my face. “I told you no disturbance Ayesha.” I huffed and grabbed my bottle of water. “I'm sorry Alpha Ares but he said it was pretty important.” she apologized and passed me the phone. “What is it Andro?” I said grabbing a towel from the hanger.“We’ve heard that you have the white wolf in your custody, we're just wondering if they'll be a need to share her-” my fist clenched around the phone and my brow narrowed.“No, she's not public property Andro, she belongs with me.” I growled out. “Come on Ares, she's going to be good for making fine babies-” he was getting on my nerves and he knew it. “Andro, one
Chapter ElevenAtlas PovLaila had been moody for the past couple of days, she was quiet and kept her snarky comments and the thing I found extremely weird was that she was trying to avoid Ares. I knew how much she detested my brother but I didn't think it was enough to keep her in hiding. It was time for dinner today and she was already twenty minutes late, Ares didn’t mind her absence and ate quietly while I remained on the other side.“What’s going on between you two?” I asked leaning back in my seat as I watched my brother eat. “You should stop speaking vaguely Atlas, what do you mean?” He responded not giving me the courtesy of looking up at me.“Laila, you don’t seem bothered that she’s not here.” My brows narrowed at him. He took another bite of his food and chewed on it slowly.“And why should I be? She can do whatever she wants.”“Even if she’s going to starve?” He dropped his spoon and glanced up at me.“If she wants to act childishly then it’s not my problem, the girl nee
Chapter TwelveAtlas povShe snuggled in closer to me while I stared down at her. It was difficult to sleep with her being this close, she wasn't a still sleeper and rolled while she slept. Now she had her face nestled in my neck and her legs wrapped over mine holding me in place. Her hair smelled like lavender and from this angle I could see the white streaks from the root of her hair. She was covering it up and I understood why. Her breath fanned against my skin which had a solid impact on me.I turned my head towards the bedside clock and checked the time, it was five a.m and it was also the perfect time to get ready.Slowly I peeled her off me, which was difficult as she kept on stirring and mumbling in her sleep, I climbed out of bed and stared at her one last time while raking my hand through my hair. She looked cute and majorly innocent, the soft crease made by her brows made me wonder what's he was thinking off. Quietly I stepped out of the room and walked back to mine at t
Chapter 100- The final mark(updated version)Laila POV“Ayeesha?” her name rolled off my tongue and I turned to her with my brows creased, her dark brows were no longer knitted and were more relaxed and she stared at the device in her arm ignoring the shocked look on my face.“You two were supposed to take care of them since, what was the hold up for?” she said casually and Andrea popped a mint in her mouth while Calum stared at me, he was the only one paying attention to my reaction and the other two didnt mind my break.“Ayeesha- how? No, this has to be a lie, there is no way this is- this is- is true.” I muttered words stuck in my throat, Ayeesha finally turned to me and placed her hands on her hips, i retraced my steps, my legs moving on its own accord. My eyes narrowed in anger.“Why? How-”“You probably didn’t hear it, you were passed out on the slab and you missed it,”“Missed out? missed out? How much of a traitor you are?-”“Oh please, you had the nudge that something was off
Chapter 99- The Third Strike- Part 2Ares POV“Thats enough Morgana,” Atlas stated, he was at the top of the elevation she had just climbed down from. Morgana’s face turned into a deep frown and then her eyes met with the three who were next to her, they exchanged a look that made me uncomfortable. Instead of dispersing as i expected they didn’t move, they remained in their spot like they weren’t aware of the intruder in their midst.“What is? The disrespect that you have for us, then yes, i agree. It is enough.” Morgana replied, “Where is your brother? I’m exoecting two peas in a pod, not one.” As if sensing where i was, she turned and our eyes met, her face which was blank stirred into a smile. It was impecable that she could find me through the crowd- i have sure blended in and far away but she could sense me out of the majority.“Come on, I think this would make a perfect reunion,” she opened her arms wide and then like metal to a magnet, the blade which had been tossed away from
Chapter 98- The Third strike- Part one of the ending.Maya POVThis was it. I was going to get my revenge on Laila for what she did to me. As I left the room, I stared at her one last time before I closed the door behind me. She didn't bother to spare me a glance nor did her eyes plead with me like i wanted, they were hard to read.“You two are done already?” I turned to the guy who was leaning by the wall, he had probably been there for a while. Malcolm, was it?“There’s not so much to talk about, our last meeting was not memorable,” I answered and glanced down at my watch, we had six hours until the main mission commenced.“I thought Morgana was the queen of holding grudges but you-” he pushed off the wall and walked closer to me. Something about Malcolm bothered me, it wasn’t the fact the Morgana blindly trusted him with her all or maybe it was the emotions bridled in his eyes, there was something he was hiding and I just couldn’t figure out what but it bothered me.“You are the qu
Chapter 97 Laila POV“Maya.” Her name tasted like ash on my tongue and my eyes fell on the woman I didn’t think of seeing soon, not here, not with the woman who was going to cause chaos. She stared down at me with her hands crossed over my chest, her hair was packed in a high ponytail. She was dressed in her signature black outfit, the turtle neck covering up her neck leaving her head as the only available skin showing. “Wait, you two want to know each other?” Andrea asked and for a moment I turned to the girl and watched her mouth drop open.“You didn’t know? Laila and Maya are sisters.” Another voice came from behind me, it wasn’t intended but the hair on my neck rose as the aura of the new person in the room clouded the place.“Wait- they are? You are kidding me right?” Andrea said but my blood rushed as i wanted to see the woman behind me, she stayed there driving me to the wall in suspense, i inhaled deeply.“Come on, cheer up Maya. You’re being reunited with your sister after
Chapter 96Atlas PovMy black uniform fit into my body and i brush the imaginary crease off my shoulders then i straightened my back, my face stirred in the mirror and i noticed the black eyes underneath my eyes and the hollow around. I looked like a dead man, there was nothing to tell me that would make me look more alive. I didn’t want to look more alive when she was missing, right under my nose.“You got this Atlas-” I said and opened my door at the same time another door opened. It had been more than twelve hours since i last saw Ares and now that the both of us stood at the empty hallway, we had no choice but to face ourselves. He didnt look any much better than i did, from his hair which were tousled and his eyes which were a bit hollow, his face was darker than usual and it wasnt the color, just his countenance.“Morning.” I greeted but he only nodded and walked down the stairs with his hands by his side. I sighed and followed after him, we made a beeline for the front door. De
Chapter 95Ayeesha POV“....thats all i remember.” I started and rubbed my forehead, another pain was coming on. I resisted the urge to grab the glass of water from the counter, there were so many people around me and they all wanted answers, especially those of the council. Ares isnt here yet neither was Atlas, Just Derek, Estelle and Kevin were the faces that didnt make me want to hide away. I know that i am the chief commander but sometimes i want to step out of my position and just be, but i know that it cant happen.“Thats enough for today.” Derek said and walked up to my bed side, he faced the rest of the council members. “She has clearly not fully recovered from the poisoning and need to gather her thoughts together.”“Its been three hours, our chances of finding the girl is very low.”“We all know that, but rushing without a proper plan isnt going to be helpful either is it?” he asked and they murmured between themself. I glanced down at my palms and rubbed them together.“I’l
Chapter 94Laila POV“You love, are coming with us to see Morgana.” Andrea said as she disappeared with Sam. My brows creased and I fussed in the rope which was holding me bound, i can’t go there. I need to escape from here and get back to the pack house.“Relax Laila, there’s no need for making a fuss, just remain still because you cant leave this place. The ropes wont easily come off and with Andrea here, you will be down in no time if you break free.” Malcom said and i swallowed. There was some kind of softness that was in his voice and a confidence in what he had said. Ofcourse, they had made sure that i would be bound and made plans even if i tried to escape.‘You should stop thinking about escaping and just let things happen as they should.”“You mean take me to that psychopath? No thank you-” i said through tight lips. Malcom didnt seem bothered that i called Morgana is Psychopath and he raked his hands through his hair. His hands moved to his jaw where he rubbed it subtly and
Chapter 93Laila POVThe first thing that hits me is the pungent smell of blood, my brain had been wired to perceive the disturbing scent from far away and even with my eyes closed and the slight thudding from beneath me that made my body ache didnt take away the mess buried in my head.“What do you think she’ll look like in her transformed state? I’ve never seen a white wolf before.” A high pitched voice said from next to me. Slowly, my eyes peered opened but not wide enough to give off the fact that i was awake. Sand.Flowing water.Large heavy footsteps accompanied with several others. I was not in the garden, i was being carried and the footsteps didnt sound liek naythign i’ve heard.“She’s pretty normal and hyped up if you asked me, there is nothing special to the girl.” The person carrying me said, my body vibrated with his husky tone.“You’re just being a hater Sam, i’m sure she’ll look great.” the feminine voice from earlier said and then their was a light pause on my right.
Chapter 92ATLAS POVThe cut went through deep in my left hand and Daniel’s teeth made sure to leave a mark, i was currenlty in my room after being stitched up by one of the nurses. I was alone going through some old pictures when a knock came on the door.“Come on in.” I said and the door was pushed opened, the scent made me recognize who it was and i dropped the pictures and turned to her.“Hey,” she started with her eyes on my shoulders. “Quite a stupid thing you did down there.” Ayeesha didn’t hold back on her harsh words, she stared at my shoulders and then at my face.“Nice way to rub it in.” I muttered and turned to lean back on the chair but a sharp pains seeped through me. `“He got you good, didn’t he?” she asked and folded her hands around her chest. “You think, but i’m fine. It’s nothing you know. I can handle-” i didn’t realize that she was walking in my direction until she placed her hands on the spot and with a knowing look she pressed hard on my shoulders.“F- Arg@#”
