***Freya's POV***

No, this can't be happening. How can the enemy be my mate?

“I only just took power two years ago?”

Alpha Edward said in fright.

“What difference does it make? You should have known that I will be coming soon. Didn't I send my letter of warning, asking you to be prepared?”

“I…I…did. Alpha, you must understand that your grudge is with the late Alpha and not me.”

“Shut the fuck up?!” He thundered in a commanding tone that sent everyone cowering in fright, including my uncle. This is just too pathetic. What did my parents do to him, and just who is he?

“The sins of your brother will be paid off by you. Else, I'm not only going to destroy your pack, but everyone present, including you, Alpha Edward, will become my slave!”

Immediately, my uncle prostrated on the floor.

“Have mercy on me, Alpha Tristan, please do not punish me for the wrong my brother did.”

Alpha Tristan? My heart sank that very instant. He's the worst nightmare of our pack. I heard he's had a long-lasting enmity with my dad, though I don't know the details of what caused their enmity.

“That's impossible. Bring me the women and children, able men and boys who can work in my pack,” he ordered his men.

“Alpha Tristan, how about I tell you how to appease your anger?”

Edward said at once, still on his knees.

The Alpha, suddenly, raised a brow.

“Tell me how.”

“Roderick's daughter is still alive. How about I offer her to you, to appease your anger?”

Immediately, he raised his hand in the air and his soldiers stopped dragging the soldiers and men in my pack.

Wait a minute, did my uncle just offer me as a peace offering?

“Interesting. I never knew Roderick had a daughter. Why don't you bring her to me, if she's worthy, I might show you mercy, but if she's not, I'm afraid my decree still stands.”

My knees instantly buckled, and I fell to the ground helplessly.

That must have alerted them, seeing how they all stared in my direction.

“Who's there? Come out this instant!”

The Alpha thundered, which made me quiver in fright. Should I have listened to Trisha and ran away when I had the chance? If only I did, I'm sure I wouldn't be found by the time they searched the pack for me. But now, it's too late and there's nothing I can do to stop what's about to happen. I tried to get up from the ground, but my legs failed me.

“Go get the spy!” The Alpha commanded and immediately, these tall and huge soldiers came towards my direction.

I dragged myself backwards with my hands dragging on the floor, but they were too fast for me to escape them. They each held me by the hands and dragged me out of my hiding spot with my legs scraping the rough floor.

When they finally came in front of the Alpha, they pushed me so hard that I found myself falling at his feet.

“A girl?” He asked, in a confused tone. At this point, my heart was pounding deeply in my chest. He crouched down to my level, placed a hand under my chin and raised my face up to his gaze.

At that moment, it seemed as though the world had stopped spinning.

He stared at me wordlessly, and I, for some reason, noticed his hard features soften slightly. Meanwhile, my heart was pounding loudly in my chest, afraid of what would happen next.

“Who is she?” He asked, still staring down at me.

"S…she's the daughter of Alpha Roderick.”

This seemed to have moved him, seeing how his earlier softened expression became hard the next second. My heart sank, knowing I was done for.

“Are you saying she's the daughter of my arch enemy, Alpha Roderick?”

“Exactly, Alpha. I'm sure there's nothing more appealing than having his precious daughter, whom he valued more than life itself.”

I can't believe my uncle actually hated me this much. How could he sell me off without batting an eye?

The Alpha suddenly raised the corner of his lips in a smirk while staring at me.

“This is fascinating.”

“Who do we have here, brother?”

I heard another deep voice say.

I slowly took my gaze towards the man who came beside the Alpha, and my blood froze.

These two, why do they look so alike?

“You are late!”

“I'm sorry, brother, but I had other engagements. Besides, you didn't inform me we were coming to the enemy's territory today.”

Did he just say brother?

“Well, it is your duty to always know what your Alpha is up to as my beta!”

What? His brother is his beta?

This brother of his stared down at me, and surprisingly, he had the same expression the Alpha had, the first time our eyes met.

“Who is she?”

He asked as well.

“She's the daughter of Alpha Roderick. Isn't the goddess giving me justice today? The enemy left his daughter behind, ah!” The Alpha uttered.

I expected the brother to feel overjoyed about this, just like the Alpha, but his expression was rather confusing. He didn't say a single word, but rather stared down at me.

“Well, well, Edward. Though I intended to destroy your pack, the fact that you gave me something to ease my anger has made me change my mind.”

“Oh thank you so much Alpha Tristan.”

I turned around and noticed how my uncle bowed his head repeatedly in excitement.

I couldn't take this anymore.

I'm no coward, and I can't be dragged out of my Pack like the slave they want to make out of me. I stood up immediately and turned around to face my uncle.

“How could you do this to me, uncle? My father, your brother, treated you with so much love and respect. How could you sell me off to the enemy just like that!”

Edward quickly stood up from the ground and scurried over to meet me.

“Listen, I'm doing this for your own good. Would you have preferred your head hanging on a spike than be his slave? Who knows, if you are obedient enough, he can make you his side mistress. Now quit being stubborn and go with him,” he whispered and pushed me towards my enemies.

I can't believe this, my uncle felt no remorse at all. How can he be this cruel to his niece?

“Now, daughter of Roderick, accept your fate and come with me, now that I'm still being nice.”

I blinked as tears ran down my cheeks.

He calls making me his slave nice? Didn't he feel the mate bond at all?

I slowly wiped off my tears and turned around to face him.

“I, Freya, daughter of Alpha Roderick, will never bow to the enemy or become his slave!"
