Someone, Somewhere

let out a small sigh as I looked over at Xavier, still chatting away on the phone. He places his warm, strong hand on my leg and gives it a light squeeze. In return, I put my hand on top of his lace, my fingers through his, and smiled at him. I hope he’s off the phone soon with this morning's events. We all ended up skipping breakfast and lunch, and I was getting hungry. Not wanting to bother him, I pull out my phone and begin playing Candy Crush. Both Xavier and his Beta told me it’s the must-have game for a cellular device. I don’t see how people can get addicted to this game; I’ve been stuck on the same level for two whole days now. I can hear both the boy’s stomachs growling violently over the top of the radio as loud as their stomachs are growling; they are not used to skipping out on meals. I use up the last of my life when Xavier ends his call. Finally breaking the silence, I look over at him and bat my eyes.

“ Xavier, I’m hungry,” I say as I smile at him.
