Chapter 4

Naomi’s POV

I was so scared as we both walked through the hallways that even Ethan suspected.

“You seem troubled.” He broke the silence.

“Not used to being carried by someone?” He asked.

“I…the thing is…” I stuttered as I loosened my grip on his neck.

“If you do not hold on tight, I’m afraid you might fall off.” He replied as he wrapped my hand around his neck.

“Oh, my world…I can smell his mint aura. Ain’t you a lucky bitch!” Nolly my wolf purred in my mind.

“Hush you!” I spoke loudly.

“Mmm…I never knew our Naomi is a bit rascally.” Ethan commented.

“No. I mean…that was not meant for you…I was…” I stuttered as I felt blood still dripping from my leg.

“I get it.” He answered back with a smile.

“How?” I was surprised.

“You are talking with your wolf, ain’t you?” He inquired as he stopped to stare into my face.

“People must not see us this way,” I answered back, trying to release myself.

“Hold still! You can not walk back in this state.” He cautioned.

“Never mind your grace. Thank you for…” I slipped my hand off his neck.

“Don’t try to get off. No one will misunderstand. It’s an emergency case.” He explained further.

“I don’t want…” I was interrupted.

“Others to bully you?” He inquired.

“Yes. So please…if you can just…” I stammered.

“Never mind. If you ask me what if it was not you and some other maid? I would have done the same. So anyone should not be treated otherwise because of this.” He answered back.

“But still, I feel…” I was interrupted once again by the head of the maid.

“Young master, why are you…” Ethan stopped and stared at her.

“Get me some clean clothes, a bandage…In short, just get me the first aid box.” He ordered.

“But your grace, you need not disturb yourself. She is just a maid and we can attend to…” She smiled sheepishly but was taken aback by the stern look Ethan had given her.

“Since when did you start to question my order?” I watched Ethan’s eyes change.

“Ohh…Mr. Handsome seems pretty defensive. I like him already. Look at his pink lips…” I ignored Nolly who had been speaking in my head for over thirty minutes.

“I’m sorry, your grace. Right away.” She replied, halting in her tracks before giving me a weird look.

“Are you still waiting? Tired of your position?!” Ethan shouted.

“No…I’m sorry.” She stormed out of the room.

“You silly virgin! If you keep locking me out of your mind, how are we going to find a mate? Just look at him?” Nolly spoke in my head again.

“Ah…Ouch…mmm…” I winced as he set me on my bed.

“Do you have any clothes I can place your leg on?” He asked.

“Your grace,” I called.

“Yes,” He answered, surveying the room.

“Why are you doing this?” I asked, trying to be more composed.

“Like I said the other time. I would have done this to anyone,” he answered back naturally.“So, just lay still.” he concluded while I could see through his wet shirt.

“Oh…Don’t look away fool! Can’t we just stare at him once more? Huh? Sometimes I wonder if you are too old for me, Naomi!” Nolly chorused in my head.

“Shut it! Just shut it okay! One more word from you and it’s over between…” I stood still with Ethan staring at me.

“Your wolf huh?” he asked as I looked away banging my head with my eyes closed.

“Naomi, come to your senses.” I hit my head countless times but was stopped by his hand.

“Don’t do that, don’t hurt yourself…” He whispered and immediately I turned my head and our eyes got locked.

“I…” My breath was heavy and we both looked at each other slowly dragging me into his arms, before letting me go unconsciously.

“Ohh…It’s about to go down! If you can’t have Gabriel, Ethan is a good match. Go on! It’s your chance to leave that wretched life behind. Be fast. That’s it, girl!” Nolly spoke in my head as I closed my eyes.

“What are you doing?” A voice jolts me out of my thoughts.

“Excuse me? Your…” I opened my eyes. They were all wild thoughts.

“What were you thinking?” He asked.

“Nothing. I…I was just…Ouch! It hurts” I quickly diverted the whole question.

“You are one kind of interesting lady, Naomi. Why do I feel like there’s something…” He dragged his words as he came near me.

“Nothing is interesting…” I hijacked his words as I tucked my hair behind my ear.

“No, I’m sure there is…” he paused and looked back at the door which had flung open revealing the head of the maid with the first aid toolbox.

“Drop it and leave,” Ethan ordered.

“Sorry? Your grace, if only you can allow us to treat her. You just arrived and doing all these will only…” She paused.

“Who assigned you as the head of maids? Why would they assign a woman who doesn’t know when to follow orders as a…Get out.” Ethan commanded.

“I said, get out! Are you slow?” He ordered, standing up from beside me.

“Your grace, she can treat me.” I intervened knowing fully well that I was just piling up my suffering after Ethan left.

“Hush you,” he replied quietly as he looked back at the head of the maids.

“I’m sorry, your grace.” she bowed and gave me a stern look before leaving.

“What does that mean? Does it mean we are in trouble?” Nolly asked as I quivered.

“Where were we?” Ethan asked. Carefully taking out the bandages as he started to treat my wound.

“I don’t understand, why ain’t you healing faster?” He asked, looking at me as he wrapped the bandage around my leg.

“I…” I closed my mouth as I was short of words.

“Never mind. I’m done and you can get some rest,” he replied when he adjusted me on the bed but suddenly lost his balance and fell on me.

“I’m sorry…” He apologized. But it was too late.

The door flung open revealing the both of us in a weird state.

“What the heck?” A familiar voice spoke at the entrance.

“We are in for trouble? Ain’t we?” Nolly asked.
