Von

The man turned, his face paling when he saw me. He instantly let go of Rae, stepping back in fear.

“You dare touch her?” I growled.

He stammered, “I—It was just a joke, I swear—”

My eyes darkened. “A joke? You think assaulting a woman is a joke?”

The man squirmed. “I didn’t mean—”

I grabbed him by the collar, yanking him back.

His breath stopped, and I could feel the rapid thudding of his heartbeat. "You don’t deserve to call yourself a man after what you just tried to do."

As I said the words, something twisted inside me.

My mind flashed back to that night when I had lost control—when I had let my emotions override my sense of reason. Rae had been at my mercy then, just as she was now.

I wasn’t supposed to say this. I wasn’t supposed to judge him when I was guilty of something too.

Keeping my expression unreadable, I shoved him backward.

"If you ever try something like this again," I growled, "I will kill you."

The man trembled, nodding furiously before stumbling away into the crowd.

As soon as he was gone, I turned to Rae. I expected gratitude, maybe even relief, but instead, she crossed her arms and glared at me.

"You saving me doesn’t change the fact that you’re still a jerk."

I exhaled sharply. Of course. She had to act this way. “What are you doing here?"

"Excuse me?" she scoffed.

“I locked you up!” I pointed out. “Who let you out?”

“No, one I found a way to escape." She tilted her chin up stubbornly.

I knew she was lying. Anna had probably helped her out. I didn’t point that out, I just stared at her with a stern gaze.

“It’s sad that you thought you could lock me up forever!” She spoke up.

I clenched my jaw. "I thought you were done with this stubbornness."

She narrowed her eyes. "And I thought you were going to stop being a monster. But you just reminded me that you never will."

That stung more than it should have.

I scoffed, masking whatever I felt. "Your opinion of me doesn’t matter."

"Of course, you'd say that." She let out a bitter laugh.

I scoffed, placing my hands on her. “It’s time to head back to the room.”

She yanked her hands away. “I’m not going back. I’m going to enjoy the Solstice party whether you like it or not."

I reached for her wrist before she could walk away. "You’re not allowed to go there."

She froze. We were close—too close. For the first time, I noticed details I had never paid attention to before. The way her lips parted slightly and how red and small their way. There was also this fire in her eyes.

She was actually… pretty.

What the hell was I thinking?

"Let go," she muttered drawing me out of my haze.

“I’m not doing that,” I informed her.

“Why?” She questioned.

“Because you don’t deserve to be here!” I replied in a stern tone.

"If you can enjoy the party, then I deserve to as well."

Something in me snapped as I heard her say those words.

"I’m not enjoying the damn party!" I blurted out. "I didn’t even want to throw it in the first place. Solstice reminds me of my dead wife. The only reason I agreed to this was to forget about Landon’s betrayal!"

I expected Rae to speak but instead, silence followed.

Rae blinked up at me, momentarily speechless. I felt a weight lift off my chest, but at the same time, I hated that I had let that slip.

I sighed, running a hand down my face. "Can you just go inside now?“

“I promise not to lock you up.” My words were a lie. It was a way to lure her inside.

She didn’t respond right away. Instead, she studied me, her gaze softer now.

I wondered what was going through her mind.

The minute I saw her lips part. I assumed she was about to speak but I was wrong

Why was she suddenly so quiet?

When she finally spoke, her voice was calm.

"You know… sometimes, it’s good to voice out your frustrations. Keeping everything bottled up and venting your anger on others won’t help."

I frowned. "I—"

"Solstice night also reminds me of Damien,” she interrupted. Then, after a pause, she added, “But I guess my time with him can’t be compared to you and your wife."

"You are right. Calista and I were together for five years." The words felt foreign coming out of my mouth. I haven’t spoken about her in a while. "Five years of my life… gone."

The moment I said it, I regretted it.

I didn’t want to open up to Rae.

Yet, somehow, she always had a way of making me say the things I kept buried.

She smiled faintly. "It seems we’re more similar than you think."

I huffed. "I could never be similar to a stubborn girl like you."

She rolled her eyes. I almost smiled but stopped myself.

Why was she getting under my skin?

Before I could think twice, the words slipped out. "Do you want to ditch this place and go somewhere else?"

I instantly regretted it.

Why the hell was I inviting Rae somewhere?

I knew the answer.

She was a distraction from everything going on in my mind and she was a damn good one.

Rae smirked. "I don’t think I want to go anywhere with a man who locked me up."

I exhaled. "I’m sorry for that." The apology surprised even me. "I didn’t mean to act that way."

She tilted her head. "I’m only accepting your apology because the reason behind your actions was… understandable."

Before I could stop it, a small smile tugged at my lips. And for once, I didn’t bother to hide it.

"So," she mused, "where exactly do you plan on taking me?"

I grinned. "Come with me and find out.”

"Look at her, swaying her hips like she owns the place," someone muttered loud enough for me to hear as I walked down the bustling town square. I kept my head high, ignoring the sting of their words. This had become my daily life ever since I turned sixteen. Every woman in the pack hated me for the attention I never asked for, and the men only wanted my body, following me around at every chance they got. No one cared about who I really was.lMy feet carried me to Mr. Gracia’s vegetable stall, one of the few places in the pack where I felt even a shred of normalcy. “Good morning, Rae,” Mr. Gracia greeted me warmly, his weathered hands gently packing a bundle of fresh greens. “It’s a fine day, isn’t it? The sun’s been kind to the crops this season. I was worried we wouldn’t have enough, but look at this—plenty to go around!” I smiled, grateful for his kindness. “That’s wonderful, Mr. Gracia. The vegetables look amazing, as always.” As we spoke, I let myself relax, even if just f

The Alpha King’s words echoed in my head as I sat in the cold, damp cell of the dungeon. My body ached from being thrown into the cage, and my mind raced with questions. Why did the king call me a traitor? I couldn’t wait for Damien to return he told me he was going to find out what was going on. My heart leaped when I heard footsteps descending the stone steps. It was Damien. He stood before my cell, his face was covered with fury and something deeper—betrayal. “Damien,” I whispered, scrambling to my feet. “Tell me the truth,” he demanded. “If you do, maybe I can convince them to spare you.” I blinked, confusion washing over me. “The truth about what?” His eyes darkened, and he stepped closer to the bars. “Don’t play innocent with me, Rae. I know what you did at the warrior’s welcome back party.” I stared at him, looking more confused than I was before. “I don’t know what you’re—“ Damien let out a dry laugh, and his next words shocked me. “Why are y

My legs shook as I stood in the center of the hall surrounded by the accusing eyes of my pack. Their whispers felt like knives against my skin, each one sharper than the last. “Rae Castor,” the Alpha King’s voice thundered, silencing the murmurs. I flinched at the sound. His piercing silver eyes bore into me from his throne. “You have disgraced this pack,” he declared, his voice echoing off the stone walls. “Do you have anything to say for yourself?” My throat was dry, my lips trembling as I tried to speak. The weight of his words crushed me, but the icy look on Damien’s face hurt even more. “I didn’t do it.” I started, my voice breaking. “You didn’t do it.” the Alpha laughed, his voice echoing through the hall. “That’s what every traitor says.” “I mean it. I didn’t do it. I would never go against this pack. “ I tried to defend myself, deep down I knew my words were not going to do anything but that didn’t stop me. “Alpha please I need you to—“ “Silence!” the Alpha

The towering gates of the hybrid king’s fortress loomed over me as I was escorted into Von Dax’s kingdom. The minute we entered into the palace, Von didn’t spare me a glance as he summoned the head maid, a stern woman with cold eyes named Agnes. “Take her to the servants’ quarters,” Von ordered curtly. “Show her the ropes. She’s one of yours now.” “Yes, Your Majesty,” Agnes replied. As Agnes began to lead me away, a woman appeared, her striking beauty impossible to ignore. She was regal, her long silver hair cascading over her shoulders. She also happened to be pregnant. Her piercing blue eyes locked onto me as she spoke. “And who is this?” she asked Von. “The new maid,” Von said without looking at her. The woman’s lips curved into a sly smile. “Perfect. We already have enough maids in the kitchen. I’ll take her as my private servant.” Von’s eyes flickered to me briefly before he nodded. “Do as you wish.” Before I could process what had just happened, a man

Rae I tried to pick up the tray but I froze as the doors creaked open, and Von’s cold eyes landed on me. “What are you doing here?” His voice was sharp. “I…I was bringing your—” He raised a hand, cutting me off. “I didn’t ask for excuses. Leave. Now.” I nodded quickly, backing away, but the weight of what I’d overheard suffocated me. As I walked back to the kitchen, the words of the councilmen replayed in my mind. ‘Take her as your breeder. Kill the girl after the child is born.’ I didn’t want to die. By the time I reached the kitchen, my decision was made. I had to escape. Anna was scrubbing dishes, her sleeves rolled up, as she hummed softly to herself. “Anna,” I whispered, stepping closer. “Can I ask you something?” She glanced at me, raising an eyebrow. “What is it?” “This palace…it’s enormous. Where’s the nearest exit?” I asked in a low tone, glancing behind my-back to ensure no one was close by. Her hands paused, the water dripping from her finge

RaeI couldn’t believe who I was staring at. My heart stopped as I took a step forward. The event of the past flooded my mind—The banishment, Damien’s words everything kept spiraling in my mind.“What are you doing here?” My voice was surprisingly cold and Damien seemed to not mind.“I came here to speak to you.” He replied.“You have just five minutes to do so.” A voice said behind me, and I turned to see Von. “Say whatever you have to say quickly.”After that was said he walked away. When Von was gone, Damien took a step closer.“Did you come to ask me if I am doing my maid duties right so you can tell your father?” I spat.“That’s not why I’m here. I came to tell you that I have always known that you were innocent.”My eyes grew as I took in his words.“What do you mean you have always known?” I asked, my lips were trembling.“You have such a pure heart, Rae, that’s what made me attracted to you, and when I found out about what you did. Fighting won’t solve anything.”He turned to me, his expression softening for just a moment.“Rae,” he said, brushing a strand of hair from my face, “I have to do this. For you. For us. I can’t let Von keep you here.”“But—”“No,” he cut me off gently. “Trust me.”Before I could say more, Von’s growl cut through the air.“Step away from him, Rae,” he commanded.Reluctantly, I let go of Damien and stepped back, my heart shattering as I moved away. She turned to face the man she was talking to before I hit her, and as I glanced at her one more time I wondered if she had a mate and if she didn’t if she was ever going to find one.Pulling my gaze away, I quickly walked past her trying as much as possible not to bump into anyone else.My focus returned to Von. I had been walking for a second but there was no sign of him. Wasn’t he at the party? As I continued weaving through the crowd, I could feel eyes following me, lingering a bit too long. I felt weird about the attention I was getting. It had been so long since I’d been around so many people. The last time I’d gotten this kind of attention was bac

RaeI thought things between Von and I would be different from now on. But, I was wrong. Very wrong. The entire week leading up to Solstice Night had been buried in planning. Everyone had been running around, trying to make everything perfect. And then, when the night finally arrived, Von had acted like a grumpy child, barking orders and yelling at the maids like they were incompetent. And then he made Anna cry. That was my breaking point. I stormed up to him, not caring that he was in one of his moods. “Von!" I yelled. He snapped his head in my direction, flashing me a stern gaze.I wasn’t intimidated by his looks. I stood in front of him meeting his stern gaze. "What do you want?" Von asked in a firm tone."You didn’t have to yell at Anna," I snapped. "She just mixed up the dishes, that’s all—""I don’t need you telling me how to handle my staff." His voice was cold, his glare sharper than usual. “I’m just trying to let you know that what you did was wrong.” I continued not ca

RaeI smiled at Von after those words left my lips and said.Von didn’t reply. He just stared at me, shock flickering in his eyes. Honestly, I was a little surprised by my own actions, too. But not too surprised. After everything Von had been through, I figured he at least needed someone to talk to. Betrayal by a stranger was one thing, but betrayal by someone you trusted—that cut deeper. I knew that feeling all too well. I could still remember how much Kayla’s actions had hurt me. But Von’s case was worse. Landon had been his friend. The feeling of the tray leaving my hands caught my attention. I turned back, surprised to see that Von had taken it from me. He sat down in one of the chairs stationed on the terrace. “Finally you give in,” I said with a smile. He didn’t say anything, his face as unreadable as ever. Typical Von—always guarded, never showing too much. But even with his blank expression, I could see the pain in his eyes. "I don't know how I'm going to move past this,

VonI could still hear Landon’s voice in my head. His pleas, his pathetic excuses. Even after I had him dragged out of my sight, his betrayal lingered like a wound that refused to heal. I had spent the past few days locked away in my study, drowning in paperwork, anything that would keep my mind from replaying that moment. But it never worked. The memory returned, and I was back to reliving what happened yesterday.I had hauled Landon out of the car, roughly. His lips parted, but I was already speaking. "Your games are over," I growled. Landon swallowed hard. “Von, listen—” “No.” I cut him off, my patience long gone. “Silas is dead.” He froze, his breath hitching. I bared my teeth, letting him see the blood that still stained my fangs. My claws flexed, gleaming under the moonlight. “If you don’t confess to being behind this, I swear, you’ll be joining him.” Landon took a shaky step back. “I—Von, please, I—” “Don’t waste my time.” My voice was ice. “Say what you need to say

Von The sharp pain in my stomach was intense, and it was caused by the intruder. He had kicked me, and as I grabbed my stomach he saw this as an opportunity to take control. He pushed me backward and then positioned himself on top of me, trying to push the knife closer to my chest. I knew one wrong move could mean my end. So I stayed still. The room was dark, and no matter how hard I tried to make out the person’s face I couldn’t.“Who are you?” I called out, my voice strained. “What do you want?” The figure stiffened at the sound of my voice. He hesitated, and that was all I needed. I seized the moment, gathering every bit of strength I had left, and I threw the person off me. He stumbled backward, falling to the ground, and into the dim light that filtered in from the window. My breathing stopped. It was Landon. It couldn’t be.“Landon!” I voiced and he turned to look at me with a shocking expression.“How could you?” I snarled, standing up quickly and lunging at him. I gra

Von I couldn’t believe my eyes. The masked man standing before me was one of my newest guards. My blood boiled. “What the hell are you doing here?” I barked, grabbing him by the collar and yanking him closer. “Why are you sneaking around Landon’s house?” He said nothing. I clenched my jaw, my grip tightening. “You better start talking, or I’ll tear your throat out right here.” Still, nothing. “Speak up bastard.” My claws extended, pricking against his skin. His entire body started shaking, but he kept his mouth shut. I growled. “I won’t ask again.” His breath hitched. His eyes darted around, searching for an escape, but there was none. “I—I was sent by Landon.” His voice was low but I heard him.I stiffened. “Why would he send you here?Silence. I slammed him against the nearest wall, my fangs bared. “Speak.” “I—I was sent to check if the package had been moved.” My eyes narrowed. “What package?” His lips clamped shut. I hated the fact that he was giving me half-baked ans

VonI stood there, listening to Anna’s words, and something inside me snapped. My blood was already boiling from the earlier news about Rae, and now, this? “Your majesty,” Anna said in a smooth voice. “I know you don’t believe me, but I’m telling you the truth.” I didn’t need to hear anymore. “Stop spitting out lies, Anna!” I snapped. “You think I’m a fool? My guards saw Rae escape. So why the hell are you lying?” Her eyes didn’t waver. “Those guards are lying to you, your majesty.“I clenched my fists. This was ridiculous. “So, what, you’re saying Rae didn’t escape and she was taken? Is that what you're trying to tell me?” Anna didn’t flinch. “Yes.”I shook my head. “How do you know this?”“I was going to see Rae when I saw some of your guards dragging her down the hall. I wanted to help her but I knew if I did they would come after me, and I wouldn’t be able to deliver this news to you.”I scoffed, shaking my head. “Did Rae put you up to this?” Anna’s expression changed.“What

Von I returned to the palace late at night, I was feeling quite tired. The fight between me and the rogue had drained me, completely. Right now all I craved was the softness of my pillow, but there was no time for rest I still had other things to attend to—like who started the fire and who was behind Landon’s attack. As I walked through the courtyard, I ran into Landon. I saw the neutral look in his eyes change to a hardened gaze. What was wrong with him? "Why the hell did you go after the rogue without telling me?" Landon demanded, stepping into my path. I exhaled sharply. So, that was the reason why his expression changed. Landon could act like a child sometimes but I still loved him regardless. “Why are you suddenly quiet?” His voice broke into my thoughts. I groaned. “I didn’t tell you I was going after the rogue because I didn’t need you there." Landon’s brow furrowed. "Stop acting like you can handle things on your own. I would’ve helped. I should’ve been there."
