AMELIA’S POV
It has been a few weeks since my intimate night with Lycan King Talon, and I have to say that my life has been a living hell. He had sent me out of his room coldly, like I was just an object he used and was now done with. After that day, I was relegated to the job of a maid. It was just like life in my old pack, except that this time my tormentor was my mate.
I won't lie, I was heartbroken about it. I understood the agreement of a breeder, but I still couldn't force away my emotions toward my mate and the fact that he had marked me. My wolf whined at me almost every night to connect with our mate, but I was left hopeless because I didn't know what to do. I could only pray I survived the next day after the strenuous labor and maltreatment from my mate.
Today, I was punished because I woke up a minute late. For some unknown reason, I have been feeling a little sick, and that's why I missed work. I tried to explain to the Lycan king Talon, but he wouldn't listen. He gave me the punishment of washing all his clothes and ironing them. I had no choice but to carry my weak body and take the punishment, or else I would be whipped.
I heard some approaching footsteps, and when I saw the person coming, my tensed body eased up a little. It was Charles, Talon's beta.
Charles has been my savior these past few weeks; he was more concerned about me than my mate. He didn't want any harm to come to me, and if possible, he would try to get a punishment from the Lycan king just so I wouldn't face any abuse. He was truly sent by the goddess to protect me, for which I was very grateful.
“Hey, how are you feeling?” He rushed to my side and placed the back of his palm on my forehead to check my temperature. His usual kind and gentle face was curved in a frown, and I could see the hint of anger in his eyes. He was always not happy whenever the Lycan king treated me badly.
“I'm better; don't worry. I don't know how I missed the time this morning. I started to say, but he cut me off.
“You missed the time because you worked until late yesterday, so it's not your fault. Besides, it was only a minute late, but he still chose to punish you even when you told him you felt sick. Why is he so heartless?” Charles fumed, his hands balling up into fists. Charles was a charming man and a child at heart; he hardly got angry, so for him to be this furious, it was pretty serious. But I knew why; it was because it was about me, and it warmed my heart to see him so concerned. If only I had met him sooner at my former pack, he was the perfect lover.
I paused my washing to give him a warm hug to calm him down. He visibly relaxed and wrapped his hands around me, enclosing me in his well-built frame. “I hate seeing you hurt Amelia; it breaks my heart so much. If only I could take you away from here, I would without a second thought,” he said.
“I know” was the only thing I said. He has been suggesting that we run away from Talon's pack, but we both knew it wouldn't be that easy. As long as Talon was here, we would never be able to escape.
After a while in each other's embrace, Charles pulled away and brought a nylon bag from his side and said, “I know you haven't eaten since morning; I got some food for you; eat quickly while I help you wash a bit.”
I nodded and smiled at him; my heart warmed at the gesture. It was hard to deny that I was already in love with this kind man.

“The king has fallen ill; the king is sick.” I heard some people gossip heatedly around me. A month had passed since I arrived at the pack, and I had never heard of the king being sick.
It was a cause for alarm because many pack doctors from within the pack and outside had checked the king, but no solution could be found. I even heard that he could die if no solution was found in the next few days.
He has treated me badly since I came here, but I would never wish him dead because his people needed him. The pack needed him, or else it would crumble and face numerous attacks from rivals and enemies. Everyone prayed for his well-being every day.
“Amelia, over here.” I heard Charles call out to me from a corner, and I rushed to meet him.
“How is he? The people are panicking,” I asked him.
“He's getting worse, Amelia; I'm afraid we won't be able to save him,” Charles said worriedly. He has been ruling the pack in Talon's stead ever since he fell sick, and the weight of everything was visible in his stressed figure. I was deeply concerned about him; the load of such a huge pack was too much for him to handle. A beta can hardly replace an alpha's place.
“What are the pack doctors saying? What do they need for him to be well?” I asked.
“I don't know; I think they mentioned something about a divine herb mixture, but no one knows how to make it.”
“What? A divine herb mixture? I know how to make it,” I said with wide eyes. Who would have thought that would be this cure?
“Really, but how?” Charles asked in shock.
“I was a maid in my former pack, remember? I learned how to make all types of herbs from there.”
"Oh, Amelia, that's great news. Let's go tell them quickly so we can give it to the king.”
We hurried to the king's chambers, and Charles told the doctors of the discovery. The doctors were desperate at that point, so they decided to give it a try. I listed the ingredients, and everything was provided within two hours, and I immediately went to work. I told Charles to send the doctors out of the chambers because it was a delicate mixture that needed full concentration, and with his help, I was able to make it.
I quickly fed it to Lycan King Talon's frailing unconscious body, and we both watched him anxiously.
“What if it doesn't work?” Charles suddenly asked out of the blue.
I looked at him in confusion and said, "Why wouldn't it? You said the divine herb mixture was the cure.”
“I know, but I'm not 100% sure. If it doesn't work and the king dies, his blood will be on your head, and the whole pack will be after you,” Charles said worriedly.
What he said made sense; now I was also worried. “What do we do then?” I asked.
“Let's run away from the pack tonight; this is our perfect opportunity,” he said.
AMELIA’S POV“Let's run away from the pack tonight; this is our perfect opportunity.” He said, and I froze. He made sense, but the consequences of running away would be brutal. If Talon doesn't wake up, I would definitely be killed.“But…but… you know what would happen if both of us goes missing. They would assume that I poisoned him and escaped. They'll hunt me down.” I stuttered. “That’s true, but there's no one here at the moment. Now think of what would happen if they saw you here instead. This is the perfect time to escape all this mess, Amelia.” He looked at me with pleading eyes.Charles was right, the pack would maul me down if they saw me here. The doctors already knew who I was.“It's all my fault. I shouldn't have allowed you to get involved in this, now see what I got you into.” Charles muttered with a forlorn look on his face.“None of this was your fault. You only wanted the best for the king and the people. You didn't know that this would happen. I made the herbs; ther
TALON’s POVI sat up from the bed, wincing at the pain I felt in my stomach. The room was empty, but I could perceive a familiar smell, the smell of my mate. Though it was a little as if it were fading, I perceived it.I felt the lingering taste of something in my throat. I had felt Amelia’s touch on my face earlier, it had to be a dream. Because Amelia wouldn't want to get close to me with the way I treated her.The door creaked open and two doctors entered. I watched their eyes widen in shock and their mouths hung open, before they regained their composure and bowed.“Your highness! You're awake.” The bald one among them exclaimed, bowing before me.From the look on their faces, I must definitely have been unconscious for a long time. This sickness was the first of its kind, I had never been sick my whole life. It started with an ache on my shoulder, before it spread through the rest of my body. I hadn't seen it as something serious; thus I ignored the warning signs. It was when I
AMELIA’S POVI froze as I raised my eyes from her body to look at who had snapped her head. Before me stood a creature, about 6ft tall, dressed in a hooded black cloak, covering all its body. Its hands were literally made of sticks, like twigs and which creaked as it drew them back. It had no eyes, just empty sockets with a golden hue in them. I couldn't move, I could hear the rapid beating of my heart. It felt like it could pop out at any moment. I wanted to scream, but it got stuck at the back of my throat.‘What in the goddess’s name was this?’ I screamed in my head. So this was how I was going to die, getting killed by an unknown creature. It stretched it towards me and I shut my eyes, awaiting whatever was to come. My wolf was unusually calm. Normally, when facing threats, she would howl, but at this moment she was quiet. She didn't consider it a threat, but I sure as hell did. Seconds passed, minutes passed, I felt nothing. Slowly I opened my eyes, but the creature was no longe
AMELIA’s POV“Get back inside Amelia, it's a body! A fresh mutilated corpse!” He yelled. I immediately dashed back inside. Charles was already back in the driver's seat, and he rode the carriage with much speed. I moved from the back seat, to sit beside him in the front.“What’s wrong Charles?” I asked. I didn't believe it was only a dead body that made him freak out like that. He said it was a fresh corpse, meaning the person had been recently killed. Which meant the killer might be nearby, or the body was just dumped there.“We are in the forest of the dead.” He dropped.I froze when I heard this, the forest of the dead. I had read about the forest of the dead, back when I was still at the Blue Moon's pack. I sneaked around the library to read books, and some kind maids were kind enough not to rat me out whenever they caught me.According to the books I read, the forest of the dead appears at a place where a massacre had occurred. It appears as a portal on the place, in which victi
AMELIA’s POVI gasped in shock looking at Gamma Raphael, who had a wicked grin on his face.‘Gamma Raphael was a sorcerer? Oh, my!’ I exclaimed internally. How come nobody in the pack knew about this? Since my stay in the pack, I hadn't perceived any sorcerer aura from him. I thought he was just a stupid pervert who abused his power.Charles dropped me down and pushed me gently to stand at his back.“Stay at my back Amelia. This just got much worse than expected.” He muttered.Charles was indeed right. The portal of the forest of the dead was intentionally shifted to the route we passed through. From the current situation, it was obvious that Gamma Raphael was responsible. He was the grade D sorcerer who had shifted the portal. He knew about our escape plan, he had been following us. But why? What business did he have with us? I understood that he would want to play the role of catching a breeder who had killed the king and escaped. But why would he go through all this trouble of even
TALON’s POVAfter waiting for some time, and the maid wasn't back, I began to feel impatient. I ordered another maid to go find out what was happening when the door opened and the maid entered alone, breathing heavily.I raised a brow, waiting to see if Amelia would enter but nobody entered.“Where is she?” “Your highness. I…I…went to her room and I…I…” The maid stuttered.I was having a bad feeling about this.“Speak up.” I said coldly.“I…I saw the body of the head maid, laying dead.” She finally said, shaking. My heart skipped a bit, not because of the news, but because Amelia might be in danger.“Where is Amelia?” “I didn't see her.” She said. For a moment, it seemed like my heart stopped beating. ‘Had she been kidnapped?’ ‘Was she hurt?’ “Get the guards immediately, and search for her!” I exclaimed, trying to stand up from the bed, but I was unable to as the pain in my stomach pinned me down.“Urghh.” I groaned.“Your highness, are you okay?” The maids asked, rushing to check
AMELIA’s POV“Noooo!! Amelia!!” I heard Charles yell. Tears streamed down my cheek as I watched him struggle to handle the creatures, while trying to reach out for me at the same time.I closed my eyes when I felt the cold blade on my skin. Maybe this was my punishment, for trying to escape my cruel fate. I should have just stayed at the pack and endured everything. What more could happen to me in the pack than the usual maltreatment and over working?I had been too greedy, I had wanted more. I wanted to feel that taste of freedom, to be finally free from being called names, from being subjected to breeder, from being reminded of my status. Now here I am, about to be killed. The life of the one person who cared for me, was at risk all because of me. Maybe I shouldn't have agreed to escape with him. I should have just stayed and face the punishment. Even if the punishment was death, I would gladly die, as long as Charles wasn't implicated. But now, not only would I die, Charles would a
AMELIA’s POVThey were Talon’s men. They stopped to smoke tobacco. They dared not do it in the carriage, as they would be fished out later on and get punished. I had seen a guard being whipped for smoking in the carriage.“I wondered why the beta would do such a thing, knowing the consequences of they get caught. I mean the girl is beautiful, but she's the king’s breeder!” One of them exclaimed.“I wouldn't blame her though, you should see the way the king treats her. Plus the way she gets over worked, I would probably the same if it were me.” Another added.“How do you know all these Mister goody two shoes?” The one who had spoken earlier sneered at the other one.“I’ve been stationed in the palace sometimes so…I see these things.” He shrugged.“We should probably get going before the commander punishes us for late coming.” The other one chuckled, throwing the stuff away before walking to the carriage. The carriage drove away, and I sighed in relief. We hid there for a moment, in cas
TALON’s POV“What do you mean by that Luna Rosette? There must be some kind of misunderstanding here.” Dalton let out an awkward laugh.“To be honest, I don't really understand what you're talking about.” Rosette shrugged, looking at him innocently.“What do you mean you don't know what I'm talking about?” Dalton almost snapped, he was struggling to maintain composure. His eyes were already red from anger.“Did you just yell at me?” Rosette looked at him coldly.“Apologies for that. Maybe we should go somewhere and discuss well, where some outsiders wouldn't disturb us.” He put on a fake smile.“There's nothing to talk about. Like I said before, I really don't know what you're talking about. Your soldiers have overstayed their welcome. The chest of gold coins you offered for their stay, has been exhausted. Please kindly take your soldiers and leave.” Rosette smiled at him politely.I watched Dalton struggling to compose himself as he gritted his teeth tightly, veins were popping out o
AMELIA'S POV“You're a descendant of the divine herb makers, interesting.” Ivana said as we walked. “We are already at the marketplace, let the search begin.” Cassio announced.“You should do the search, afterall it was you who lost it. None of them had an idea that you brought the fork along. Amelia and I would just wait at a corner.” Ivana smirked.Cassio humped, before looking down at the ground in search of the fork. Scymodus joined him, like they hadn't fought earlier.“Was your mother also a divine herb maker? She asked.“Uh, I don't know. I don't know my parents, and I barely have any memories of them.” I chuckled, sadly.“Oh, sorry about that.” She muttered.“I wonder why I don't have any memories of them. Maybe they must have died when I was a baby or something. But there's this locket that has been on my neck since I can remember, and it has fading pictures of a man and a woman. They must be my parents, I feel connected to it.” I smiled, rubbing the locket softly.“Can I ta
TALON’s POVRosette, Dimitri and I rode in the same carriage, and Rosette couldn't seem to keep her hands off Dimitri. Dimitri on the other hand, sat stiffly staring at me with a subtle glare. When I told him he was part of the plan I made, he obviously didn't expect this. The carriage stopped in front of the long fenced building, the training ground. The land of Brim had one of the best training grounds, probably on par with mine. But personally, I loved the way they built their own. The one thing I loved about it was the security. There were so soldiers placed to protect the place, but intruders couldn't seep in.This was because the doors were protected with puzzles and mysteries in which one had to solve before access would be granted. No normal person could unlock the door. Rosette was the only one who could open the doors, and me of course. She had been shocked when she found out that I could unlock the doors.Rosette had promised me a box of gold, because she had been damn sure
AMELIA’s POVIvana nodded her head, sighing before she walked towards the window. She stood by it and looked out, without saying anything. The room was filled with silence.“I guess Amelia has something to do with it, right?” She asked, before sighing yet again.“Yes she does.” Charles answered, before going ahead to explain everything that had happened, from our experience at the forest of dead, to the situation that happened with the fork.“Raphael?” She mentioned, “Is he dark-haired, and has really black orbs?” She asked, and Charles and I nodded looking at each other simultaneously.“He came to me.” She said, furrowing her brows, “He wanted to know if it was true that someone had tapped into the dark magic.”“And what day was that?” Charles asked.“It's been quite long. When I saw him, I knew at once that he was a sorcerer. Though he did his very best to conceal it. He said he was sent by the alpha to find out, so their pack could make plans to shield themselves from it. But I saw
TALON’s POV Dimitri staggered a bit, holding Rosette delicately in his arms as if she were an egg. He obviously didn't expect the little stunt that I pulled. He eventually released her when he caught his balance. One would think that Rosette would feel embarrassed or something, but she clutched unto Dimitri like a bee would when sucking nectar from a flower. The expressionless Dimitri, became flustered at this point. She sniffed him and sighed.“You smell…like honey. Something I would want to eat up right now, pretty boy.” She slurred, tracing her fingers around Dimitri's face. Dimitri on the other hand, stiffened and didn't make a move or say anything. He slowly locked gaze with me, his eyes pleading. My lips curled a little into a mischievous smile, it was time for the plan.“You're making my soldier uncomfortable, Rosette.” I remarked, coming to his rescue.“I’m I? He isn't resisting.” She said, as she slowly dragged her hands his pants. Dimitri reacted immediately, jumping out of
TALON’s POV I gave the girl one last look, before going towards the carriage.“Dimitri, ride with me.” I said, pausing at the carriage as I watched Dimitri who had already hopped into the other carriage. He jumped out immediately, coming to stand before me.I entered, and he followed suit. I sat in the carriage, with my eyes half-closed. Dimitri sat opposite me with his eyes wide opened, looking at me warily like I would pounce on him at any moment.“Dimitri, stop looking at me like that or I might think that you’re falling for me.” I muttered.I saw him flinch at my words, before looking else where.“Apologies my lord if it came out that way.” He bowed.“It's not like it's the first time you rode in the same carriage with me.” I yawned, feeling tired.“True my lord. But it doesn't seem right for a servant to ride with his master. It seemed disrespectful.” He muttered, and I chuckled.Servants? I hadn't really considered those who worked under me as servants, it was one the things my
AMELIA’s POVRosette wasn't joking when she said she was going to take us to the North wing, dressed like this. Most of the ladies I knew, liked to be all dolled up whether they were inside their mansions or not. Rosette on the other hand, was of the opinion that it was her mansion, and she could dress whichever way she liked. She said she could even go about naked, she didn't owe anybody anything. She had refused to let go of me since we left the great hall of the palace. She coiled her hands around mine, as we walked together. Her facial, sharp features were deceiving, contrasting with her attitude. She was exactly what I would call the female version of Cassio. Rosette was playful, giggled at my comments, and jumped excitedly when I complimented her.I had initially decided to stay silent, but she made that impossible. On our way to the fourth wing, she told me stories of how parties and balls were tiring to her. She said all she ever wanted to do was to eat, sleep, have fun and, “
AMELIA’s POVI blink at the scene before me. The first thing that came to my mind was that there was an underage boy with us, Scymodus. I quickly pushed him out of the door.“Close the door both of you. He's underage!” I exclaimed, looking at Cassio and Charles. But they didn't move an inch, instead Cassio burst out laughing. The woman's moans increased, I had to close my ears.“Underage? Do you know how many times he has seen this scene?” Cassio said, amidst fits of laughter.“He's thirteen, but he has reached the mating age. Like he said before, bears have extreme rapid growth.” Charles commented. He didn't seem affected by the scene.“Don't be too shocked, Amelia. That's like a regular scene any time one visits Rosette. She loves getting drilled, before mating season or after. It's like what she lives for.” Cassio grinned.“So what do we do now? We can't just possibly go in, when they're…” I paused, unable to continue my words as I was still flustered. I knew my face would be as re
Chapter thirty-five:TALON’s POV“Now that's having me. And I don't think you’re prepared to have me, just a little play and you made so much noise. Pathetic.” I scoffed.“Who…who…who the hell is he?” The other one with yellowish teeth stuttered, his voice almost a whisper and he moved back with the others, with great fear in his eyes. I chuckled at this, relishing the moment. Earlier, they had been feeling smug and untouchable, the tables turned now.“Ma…ma…marion. You were saying something, who…who…who—” One of them fell to the ground, unable to continue his words, as he had a heart attack, obviously from being scared.“Shit!! Kay!! Take him to the doctor.” Marion yelled.“Don't touch him. If he is to die, then let him do it.” I let out coldly.“Please I beg on their behalf, this won't happen again.” Marion begged, on his knees. He was a good man, these men didn't deserve this. But at the end, the pack wasn't mine yet. I knew Dalton would report me to the general pack council for t
