Janice listed as she ticked the box in front of each category.
Her eyes dimmed, and she let out a groan as she realized she had been working for a long time without eating.
“I should go on a coffee break soon.” She mumbled, staring at the pile of unfinished work in front of her.
Yet, she knew it wouldn't be possible soon. Because she needed to finish the paperwork in front of her, and she loathed procrastination, which was becoming a part of her now.
A few seconds into the work, her shoulder drooped, and her hands trembled.
The pen she gripped in her hand clattered on the brown mahogany desk and rolled down to the floor.
“I should probably get something to eat now, else I would pass out.” Janice rubbed her temple as she felt a headache brewing.
She nudged the remaining paperwork aside before pushing herself out of the brown leather chair she was in.
She undid the button of the black skinny jeans she donned to allow freedom as she felt it gripping her waist too tight.
Janice snatched her keys off the table and slipped them inside the brown clutch she often carries about.
And slipped her feet into the ballerina flats she had pulled off, so she'd be able to stretch her feet.
Lurching, she gripped her chest as she noticed someone in front of the entrance when she unlocked the door.
“You startled me!” She glared up at Jules. “Besides, what are you doing here?”
Jules drank in her feature and stared at her longer than it was necessary.
He wondered if what Maggie had told him was the truth, since he didn't notice any difference in her at the wedding, and even now.
She looked the same except for the lack of colour in her skin, and her eyes looked weary. He noticed she had bags underneath each.
He recalled he hadn't used protection the night they met, and that was because there was none available.
Moreover, looking at the way both of them had felt that day, he believed protection wouldn't have been an option. Perhaps they would have done the deed before realizing it.
More so, he assumed Janice was on birth control pills.
It was startling to know he was her first, after seeing some dried blood the next morning in the back seat of his car.
He had never been with a virgin before, and he didn't know how to treat one. Likewise, he was glad that it was until the next morning he had seen the blood because he didn't know what he would have done.
He believed leaving as soon as they did, it saved him from the awkward feelings that would have emerged the next morning. Most virgins, he believed, were naïve and sort of clingy.
It was the last thing he needed. He liked his women to be experienced and have the knowledge that he was only with them for the night and nothing else.
“What are you doing here?” Janice repeated, eyeing him.
Yet, he didn't reply. Rather, he continued scrutinizing her.
Instinctively, Janice's hand went to stroke her stomach.
She saw him following each movement she made with her hand from the corner of her eyes.
Did he know about the baby? She thought.
It was unlikely, except Maggie had disclosed her secret to her husband, who may have, in turn, mentioned it to his brother.
“I'm here to see you,” Jules stated.
“Well,” Janice began. “We are close for the day. Perhaps you should come tomorrow or maybe set up an appointment because I might be booked tomorrow as well.” Janice said with an ounce of professionalism in her voice.
“I'm not here to plan a freaking wedding,” Jules's lips twisted, and he grunted.
“Then we can't see. Adios.” Janice mumbled.
She attempted to walk past him, but he gripped her hand, halting her.
And just like before, the force of attraction between them skyrocketed.
Janice slipped her tongue out to moisten her lips as her body tingled. She felt her core throbbing, responding to him.“What do you want?” She inquired, scowling. Even though what she wanted was to have him take her once again inside her office.
Shit! She mumbled mentally, pushing the strange thought of wanting him aside.
“You are pregnant,” Jules said simply.
He knew, and it was all Maggi's fault. Still, was aware before telling Maggie, she wouldn't be able to keep the secret to herself.
Moreover, she believed Maggie hadn't told him directly. Jules might have overheard her when she was saying it to her husband.
“Do I look like I am?” Janice said with a raised brow.
“Don't play dumb with me,” Jules said, then continued. “Who's the father?”
A giggle slipped out of her lips as she saw the stern look present on his face. “You are not my father to ask me that.”
“Also, you have no right to come into my office asking who the father of my baby is! It's not like I even told you I was pregnant.”
“I heard it from Maggie. And I know when someone is pregnant.” He pointed out.
“Who is the father?” He repeated, gazing at her.
“He or she is fatherless. And it is none of your business.” Janice retorted.
“Don't play with me,” He grunted, then tightened his grip on her.
“Unhand me, Jules!”
Janice noticed how foreign his name sounded. Yet, she liked the way her body responded.
“Fine.” He mumbled, releasing his grip on her.
She stroked her wrist and noticed the red slashed on it.
“You should tell me if the baby is mine, so I would take responsibility,” He said.
Responsibility?
Such a big word!
It was a word Janice loathed. She didn't want any of her children to be the reason any man would take responsibility. Her father had said the same thing to her mother, and it was happening again to her. So much for not wanting to go down the path her mother went.
“I'm not pregnant.”
“Very well,” Jules said, watching her with narrowed eyes.
He knew she was lying, but he didn't want to pressurize her.
She looked overworked, and as if she would slump if he did.
Jules watched her take a step forward, then stumbled as he had thought. He caught her before she could slam into the tiled floor.
Her head lolled as she slipped into unconsciousness.
Startled, he stared at the passed out figure of the woman he had come to confront in his hands.
What was he going to do with her? No woman had ever fainted in front of him before, except for those women that wanted to fake staying with him for more than a day after their night together.
He knew those kinds of women and never wasted his time in trying to see to their wellbeing. Rather, he often instructs one of his bodyguards to see to it.
But Janice wasn't faking it. He had seen that she was going to collapse. And she looked a little malnourished.
He placed his index finger beneath her throat to feel for a pulse, and he discovered how faint it was.
He remembered the first aid class he had taken during college and what they had thought about how to help unconscious people.
Jules hoisted her off the floor to the only chair in the office. He laid her gently on the brown sofa, then took her hand whilst rubbing it in an up and down manner.
He wondered if he was doing it right, but some seconds later, he saw her lashes flutter against her cheek. Before she opened her eyes.
“I think I'm going to be sick,” Janice muttered.
Abruptly, she stood, and he watched as she jetted out of the sofa and darted around the small room into a corner.
He followed her and watched as she crouched beside the toilet seat, retching.
He stepped towards her, lifted her hair away from her pale face, then stroked her back.
“You'll be fine.” He mumbled as she kept hurling the content in her stomach.
“I'll be back,” Jules said when he saw she was done.
“I hate this feeling.” Janice groaned, caressing her tummy.
She hadn't eaten yet, and the pang in the lower part of her belly became worse.
“Let me drive you home,” He stepped in a while later. He saw her reclining on the sofa with her hands covering her face.
Janice didn't object like she had the last time he had offered to drive her home. She followed him outside after locking her office.
A sigh drifted out of her mouth as she slipped into his sleek Cadillac.
“Address.”
“5 Dalton road,” Janice mumbled.
Her eyes became heavy, then snapped open when Jules tapped her shoulder.
“Thanks.” Janice stepped out of the car, then halted as Jules's voice sounded.
“Be ready by noon tomorrow.”
“Why?” she asked.
“I'm taking you to see a doctor,” He said.
“Thanks, but no, thanks,” Janice grunted. “If I want a doctor, I'll find one myself.”
“I'm talking about a good doctor and not some roadside quack,”
Janice narrowed her eyes as she gazed at him. He was pompous, and she loathed men like that.
“I don't care. It's my body, and I'll go wherever I want.” Janice said.
“Not if the baby you are carrying is mine,” He grunted.
He noticed her protective stance, and he wondered what she was thinking of.
“Even if the baby is yours, I'm going nowhere with you.” Janice flung back.
“Try me.” He rasped.
Janice glared as she stared at his cold face for a while before stalking inside the comfort of the house.
Hello readers! It's a delight to see you are enjoying the story. Kindly leave a review to let me know what you think.
Janice snatched her car key off the brown nightstand, and she gripped the handle of her luggage with the other hand. Sighing, she stared at the room she had been staying in for the past five years. It had been a haven for her. And where she had fled to after her first heartbreak. Maggie had got the place for her and Janice had fallen in love with it right away. Now, she was leaving, where she thought she'd stay for a few more years. Even though it was the last thing she wanted to do, she was aware it was necessary. She exited the door of her flat and brought the key towards the lock. “Going somewhere?” Startled, she swirled. The key in her hand clattered to the ground, and she clutched her chest whilst staring at the man in front of her. “What are you doing here?!” Janice gasped. Her gaze widened as she glimpsed the black Cadillac, Aston Martin, and several other cars surrounding her car. “Today is the appointment to the doctor's office,” Jules said. Janice noticed him ass
She paced the vast living room, which had only a large brown love sofa and a 32 inches flat screen that was at the corner of the wall. Glancing at where she was now, she noticed how frigid and void the room was. Without the dark painting, it still was cold. Everything around him depicted his stiff personality. She reckoned that was how he always had been and would be. Even the night they had met, if she wasn't too drunk, she'd have noticed the type of man he was- a controlling, arrogant b*st*rd. And she'd have stopped herself from going in with him. At least, it would save her from what she was experiencing currently. Getting married? She pondered as her mind drifted yet again to what he had said. Her lips curled up in distaste. She glared at him as he casually stepped into the room. “I'm not getting married to you because I'm carrying your child. That is the last thing I will ever do because it is the wrong purpose for marriage. And marriage should be for love!” Jules stared a
A sigh escaped her lips, and Janice's hand collided with a hard chest as she tossed in the enormous bed. She felt around, and she sensed it wasn't a pillow, rather she was gripping a warm body! Startled, she came awake. She gazed around with wide eyes as she tried to decipher where she was in. A window positioned at the corner of the vast room was opened and moonlight streamed inside, illuminating it. The curtain rustled as the wind blew it. Janice wondered when she had a large window in her flat because she could only recall how tiny it was to even accommodate one. Moreover, she recalled the lack of air that she often suffered because of having another massive building close by. But she still enjoyed her personal space, despite how cramped it was. Her eyes travelled to the vanity, which was exquisite even in the moonlight. Several skincare products adorned it, and she glanced at the clock as it chimed. It was just past two, and she was in bed with a stranger! Was she abducte
Janice awoke to the sound of a knock on her door. Slowly, she lifted her body from the bed and discarded the brown duvet that was draped around her body. She glanced at the clock on the brown-coated wall and realized she had slept for just two hours. Also, she noticed she was alone in the room, and she wondered where Jules had gone. Janice sighed as she remembered him mentioning he had some business to do. The knock sounded again, snapping her out of her thoughts. “I'll be with you shortly,” she said whilst yanking the robe that was hung on the chair next to her. Trudging to the door, she unlocked the door, and her head peeked out. Startled, her brows creased when she saw three women with wide grins on their faces, and each curtsied. They donned the same black fashionable button-down maxi gown and a French straw bonnet was on each head. Momentarily, Janice's eyes travelled to her right as the door leading to a room next to the one she was in opened, and a male servant stepped
“This feels so nice,” Janice muttered as she lay in the pedestal bathtub. She sighed as the heated water caressed her skin, and her eyes rolled into her head at the feelings it incited in her. The Lavender and chamomile essential oils the maid had added to the water were stimulating, and she enjoyed how they relaxed her tensed muscles. Janice had never thought she would experience this sort of luxury in her life. Though she wasn't used to this extravagance, she appreciates the flat she had rented and came to know as home. Her hand stretched out to snatch the stem of the wineglass, which was next to her in a tray that was placed on the small white coffee table. She lifted the glass to her lips and took a sip. It glided down her throat smoothly, and she marvelled at how excellent it tasted. She had searched through the wine collection of Jules, and the bourbon wine had caught her attention. It had always been one of her fantasies to drink bourbon whilst soaking in a bathtub wit
Jules opened his eyes slowly, and he saw it wasn't morning yet. But, he couldn't tell what the time was since the alarm clock was at the other side of the nightstand. Also, he was feeling too lazy to swivel his head to glance at the wall clock. Perhaps, it was midnight because the moonlight was at its peak already, and the brightness illuminated the room. A smile formed on his face as he glanced at the warm body cuddled next to him. She was bare and had slept soon after their lovemaking last night. Jules twirled a white strand of hair that was spread on the pillow in his finger, and he couldn't stop grinning at how her body moulded perfectly into his. He had never gone back to the same bed again with a woman because he was frequently with different people, and the first time he met Janice; he hadn't stopped thinking about her. Jules doubted if he would ever stop. He sucked in a deep breath as her hand clutched his member. She stroked it for a while, then squeezed. But not en
Even though her mind was far away, Janice answered all the questions the dowager queen had thrown at her, not evading any. “These are all the preceding royal families.” She continued as they moved to another section of the castle. Janice assessed each picture of the royals the Queen pointed to and noticed they all had uptightness about them. More so, she glimpsed the same grimace and forced a smile on each face, and wondered if it was the pattern they used in taking pictures. Janice had seen the same expression on the Queen's face in the picture that was in the drawing-room. “Next we move to etiquette.” She stated, swiping at the pages of the books with her as they walked back to the dining hall. It could house more than a hundred guests. A large rectangular table was in the centre and ten maids were busy arranging golden ceramic plates, cutleries, and paper towels on it. Janice had no problem with eating etiquette. She was familiar with all the rules, and she could recite each
“Janice!” Maggie called out. “I might have to leave you to go to the town square alone.” “I'll be with you in a minute!” Janice yelled as she did the button of her dress. The ladies had heard of the famous fundraising event for victims of natural disasters that often happened during this time of the year and decided to attend after receiving permission from the Queen. Also, Maggie was invited especially to grace the event as the newest addition to the royal family and a guest speaker. Janice barely found something decent to put on, since most of the clothes in her bag now seemed a tad tight for her growing bump. “I'm not even big yet, and none of these fits again!” She groaned, tossing a gown she had tried in the box next to her. She plucked a gown she borrowed from Maggie's closet and donned it. “This is better.” She mumbled, swirling in front of the mirror. Janice was glad she could fit into Maggie's dress, and it surprised her since the latter was bigger than she. “You look l
Janice glanced at the door as a knock sounded on it. She rolled on the bed and snatched the hanky beside her to blow her nose. Her eyes were puffy, but she didn't care. She only wanted the pain that seemed to have multiplied ever since she moved out of the room she shared with Jules to vanish. Also, the new ones that surfaced when she knew about what happened seemed to intensify all that she had been feeling and wondered if she could do anything. As soon as she got home, she had tried to set up a meeting with Jules to talk about everything, but it seemed like he didn't want to see her because each time she went close to his room, she noticed it was locked. She didn't know where he often went and didn't have th
The next morning, Janice groaned as she came awake. She rubbed her temple and winced as she sensed a headache brewing. She recalled doing what Margie had termed to be fun yesterday. It wasn't her wearing a skimpy bikini to show off her backside to people in the castle nor did she seduce anyone as she had suggested. They had a little tea party in her room yesterday. Only that it wasn't tea they had taken. It was a brandy Margie had stolen from Jeremy's collection and hid in her bag.Music had been played as well but was on low volume because of Prince Michael and even the dowager queen since she would term the choice of their music disapproving or vulgar.
"But trust me, can you see he is suffering the same way as you?""Just drop it, Margie.""Fine." Margie shrugged. "I hope you accept him before it is too late. You should try considering him because of the prince anyway."Janice glared and puffed out a breath. "We are not talking about him anymore."Margie giggled as Janice tossed her a throw pillow. She drew an imaginary zip across her lips and tossed the key away before staring at her."How about we do something fun?"Janice creased her brows whilst staring at the twinkles in Margie's eyes.
Janice glared at the phone, continuously ringing on the nightstand, then at Margie, sitting beside her with Prince Michael in her arms."Give him a chance, I don't think he wanted to hurt you.""Well, when Jeremy does the same, I'd like to say the same to you."Margie rolled her eyes, "Jeremy wouldn't dare. Besides, I trust Jules and I know what he can do. He'd never do such. I smell blackmail."Janice shrugged, "I don't think so. We both know how Jules is before he married me. What shows he wouldn't do the same?""You should see how he stares at you, Janice." Margie enthused. "He freaking adores you and you think he would do something as awful as this with
"Janice…""Stay away from me!"Janice snapped, moving past him and down the hallway. She stepped into the room and he followed suit.Jules let out a sigh and he pinched the bridge of his nose. "At least, give me a chance to explain myself."Janice sat on the bed, her eyes were on the ceiling. Even though she could see whatever Jules was doing in the room from the corner of her eyes, she pretended like she didn't see him."Will you ever hear me out or just assume I cheated on you?"She glared at him but wished she hadn't. His eyes were sunken and bleary as if he had not slept for days.
"How dare he do that to me?!" Janice paced around the room, gritting her teeth. She balled her hands into fists and exhaled noisily through her nose."I don't think he is aware of this. I believe what Jules says, and you don't have to blame him. He is even astonished himself." Margie pointed out.She glanced briefly away from her phone, then at Janice."I don't care if he is astonished or not! Why the hell will he go about assessing everything in a skirt?!"Janice tossed her hands in the air. "I should have known he would never change. I thought he was beginning to become the kind of man I want…""He changed for you." Margie interrupted. "He mi
Jules was the first to snap out of the daze he was in. He stomped towards the woman and glared, "Lucy, I think you are mistaken.""Perhaps I need to say it again. This is your child whom you abandoned years ago. He is here now. You can take him. I don't want him anymore."Lucy shoved the little boy forwards and despite her confusion, Janice instinctively caught him before he could tumble to the tiled floor."I have no child with you." Jules gritted his teeth. He yanked her hand and tugged her towards the waiting room, which was inside the church. He noticed people were gathering. A few people took photos of him. He didn't want them to know more than t
"May I?"Janice nodded as Jules pointed to her chest. She turned, and showed her back to him, to help her undo the hooks of her brassiere. She breathed out as her ample breasts bounced free from the restraint. She rolled her eyes as she noticed Jules’ eyes on them and glimpsed him licking his lips slowly."Don't." She mumbled."Don't what?" A grin plastered on his face, "I said nothing.""I know and I am aware of what you are about to say." She mumbled, grabbing her son who was squirming in his cot.Jules shrugged, "I doubt that."
It was exactly two hours after Jules landed and Janice was a bit relieved that not only had the pain in her tummy and lower back lessened, but she could move around the room as well, without feeling like she was going to be ripped into two. The only restriction she had was that she couldn't go a long distance, but it was better than being confined to the bed. “How about you take a cold shower to help with the pain?’’ Jules asked, whilst Janice fanned herself. She nodded without hesitation and allowed him to help her out of the bed. Stripping down to nothing, she stepped into the bathtub and let out a sigh as the warm water caressed her delicate skin. Janice eyed Jules from the corner of her eyes as she noticed him watching her from the d
