Sherry delivered a swift blow across his face. The thunderous clap echoed across the corridor and could still be heard after seconds had passed. The group of thugs was all equally dumbfounded. They were not expecting Sherry to slap the leader as well. Both Jason and Nelson remained silent. John was the only one smiling satisfactorily. It was only when he observed the way Sherry continued to limp that a scowl formed on his face again. The leader of the thugs who had just been slapped by Sherry was glaring at her viciously. Sherry did not back down as she cocked an eyebrow and confronted the thug head-on. There was a rabid glow in her eyes that showed that she was not afraid of him. “What are you looking at? Don’t test me or I’ll tear your eyebrows out of your socket!” This seemed to intimidate the leader at last as he impishly averted his gaze from Sherry. Sherry interrogated him, "Who sent you here? Was it Aiden? That b*stard!” The leader kept his lips sealed
John frowned. He helped Sherry wipe off a bead of sweat trickling down her forehead and tried to comfort her. "Don't be scared, they’re gone now and they’re never going to come back.” Sherry was about to nod reactively but quickly caught herself. She frowned and turned to John with an air of indignation. “When did I say I was scared? I just said that my hands are numb after slapping him.” John smiled. "Yeah, I know." He gently caressed her still-swollen face. “Come on, let’s head up there first.” Sherry took several steps before a sudden thought came to her. She suddenly cried out exasperatedly, “Why did we even let them go? I should’ve called the police!" They had revealed that it was Aiden who employed them. If she had the police arrest them, they would have concrete evidence and could press charges against Aiden! If she had done so, she would have been able to exact her revenge on Aiden and also chase him out of Sager Corporation for Lina and Carl. The more she
Sherry bent over to carry Caprice into her arms. Caprice was more perceptive than she would appear and immediately noticed Sherry’s swollen cheeks as soon as she bent over. She raised an eyebrow and promptly pointed it out. "Mommy, why is your face swollen?" Sherry quickly came up with a story. "Mommy accidentally tripped while rushing back home.” Caprice seemed worried. “Did it hurt?” Sherry felt a warm fuzzy feeling rising in her chest and assured Caprice with a genuine smile. "It only hurt a little when I fell, but it doesn't hurt anymore.” Caprice gently grazed it with her fingers. Sherry caressed Caprice as well and carried her into her arms. Aunt Wanda had already prepared dinner for them. John was the one who bought the grocery today though it was Aunt Wanda who cooked them. She seemed to worry that Sherry would not eat the food knowing that it was John who bought them and made a point of informing Sherry, "Miss Sherry, Caprice and I picked out these vege
Nelson trailed closely after them. After they got out of the elevator, they headed straight for the car. Nelson got in the driver's seat and drove them to a nearby police station. John helped Sherry out of the car and walked her into the station. After lodging the injury report, Sherry was taken to the hospital. The side of her face that she took the slap from was still slightly red and swollen. One of her thighs was swollen as well, but the bones were not broken. The doctor gave her some pain-relieving drugs and something to help reduce the swelling. In time, the swelling on her face went away, and the swelling in her legs was mostly reduced as well. Although it still hurt a little to walk, she no longer needed John to support her anymore. She managed to walk out of the hospital by herself, then Nelson drove them back to her place. Aunt Wanda had already got home with Caprice and was waiting for them at the door. Upon seeing their return, Caprice trott
John stood outside the door, looking at her side profile, and asked softly, “Feeling better?” “Yeah,” Sherry replied and limped inside. “You’re hurt. I’ll wash Caprice up instead.” The man then strode into her room before her and picked Caprice, who had woken up, off the bed to go to the bathroom. Sherry pursed her lips in silence. A while later, Caprice came out in fresh new clothes. John was behind the girl and was looking at the woman with a soft gaze. “Let’s go have breakfast. Caprice wants to go to her favorite sandwich joint.” Sherry simply hummed a reply. They arrived at the sandwich joint and had a simple breakfast. After breakfast, Sherry kissed Caprice on the cheek and said softly, “Caprice, Mommy is going to work. Be a good girl and stay with Daddy. I’ll come back when I’m done, okay?” Caprice protruded her lips and kissed her on the cheek as well. She answered meekly, “Okay.” Sherry smiled and passed the girl to John. John held Caprice in his arms an
Sherry clenched her teeth. Just when she wanted to argue, hurried footsteps came from the crowd. In the blink of an eye, Carl’s towering figure appeared before her. “Sis, what happened to your face? And your leg?” Carl looked at her worriedly. Sherry looked slightly relieved. She said, “I’m fine.” Aiden immediately said, “Carl, thank God you are here. I was asking Ms. Fowler about her condition, and she said there were some thugs who beat her up. I was wondering why would someone beat her up without a reason. I think it's because she messed with the wrong person at the nightclubs that she always goes to.” Carl’s expression shifted. His charming eyes were overflowing with viciousness when he glared at Aiden. “What did you say? Say that in my face again.” Sherry knew Carl’s temper well. If Aiden repeated what he said in front of Carl, Carl would definitely beat him up. She pulled Carl to the side and then said to Aiden, “Aiden, I think the answer might disappoint you. As
Carl wanted to punch Aiden’s face and break his legs. He strode towards the door. Sherry bolted up and called to him, “Stop!” He continued striding forward. She limped forward to chase after him. Carl noticed her limping figure from his side. He stopped, furrowed his brows, and said, “Stop moving around. I’ll be back after I beat his ass up!” Sherry limped forward and held him back. “I am already thinking of a way to deal with him. Do not mess with him now.” “What idea do you have?” Carl looked at her suspiciously. Sherry grinned. “You will know after today.” Judging from her sly and cunning grin, Carl felt relieved. His charming eyes curled up and said, “Okay. If you say so.” He flipped her nose playfully. Sherry glared at him before she went back to her desk. After she sat down, she said to him, “I’ll be having a meeting regarding the two projects you secured last week. Since you are the one who closed the deal, you are responsible for leading the meeting. Be pr
Besides, Carl did not say anything either, so no one else had any objections. Ron smiled at Carl and sat opposite Carl; Aiden and Caden sat on Carl's left. The meeting room was filled with people once it was time. Carl scanned over everyone and said with a smile, “Okay. Now that everyone is here, let’s start.” He then turned his spinning chair a little to grab the remote and turned on the display screen behind him. The screen displayed the Powerpoint slides that he had prepared for the two projects. He somehow managed to get himself some cool and eye-catching templates for the slides, which differed from what the others usually used. The words were bold and eye-catching, yet stylish enough to not look like a disaster. It looked casual, but at the same time, brief and precise. Minimalistic and understandable! Sherry was captivated after a few glances; the others were similarly surprised and astonished. Caden reacted scornfully, but Aiden and Ron had heavy looks on their
